I need to tell someone about my experience. This was via Uber Eats so who knows about the prices but it was fine. The portions are pretty big so i think the Uber eats price was fine. Eesh. Okay, I gotta say that the dim sum was really good. Ordered the "seafood w spinach dumplings" which I think is just ha gow with toyy. It was super good. Also got spring rolls (it's ground chicken), yummy and crispy but kinda had a lot of cabbage inside :-/ This came with a tiny cup of sweet n sour dip. Dassit. No shoyu, sauces or anything. So that was kinda disappointing but np I have those in my kitchen. But, it would have been nice to have extra shoyu, the spicy sauce, peanut oil, chopsticks, napkins, spoon all that included. Okay here's the real eesh: my main dish was "wonton with noodle soup" as it was cold n rainy that day. The soup base was in one container and the toppings (wontons, skinny noodles, bok choy) in another. I made a bowl and put it in the microwave for another 2 mins bc it was a little cooled down when the food arrived. Okay so I'm eating the meal, it's good. Wish I had hot sauce. I take a bite of the wonton with some noodles and um.. it tasted.. weirdly squishy. And smooth. Like pâté or tartare. Hmm okay weird. Im not a huge meat eater so maybe that's just how it tastes sometimes? I eat a few more bites of the won tons but am kinda over it. I ate the noodles and bok choy and soup, it was good. Except that they served the gross white stalks part of the bok choy that are inedible (to me anyway) so that was annoying. Two hours later... Im sick. That was the only thing I'd eaten in 5 hours. I came on the weekend for lunch with my family and we had horrible service. We chose this place because it was spacious and we had 10 people. We were seated in the back corner by the glass windows. Our dim sum came but the food temperature was lukewarm. The dim sum portions were small. We ordered 2 noodles dishes, we received the first dish first after we finished the dim sum so it was good timing. The second noodle dish took 30 minutes and in between that wait time, we tried to ask for 4 cups of ice waters and followed up on the noodle dish. The waitress told us, it's very busy now and I won't be able to get you those ice waters. So we waited and then attempted to ask another waiter and in 5 minutes we got 2 cups of water. The waitress then comes by with 2 more cups of ice water and tells me, make sure you don't spill it because we don't have time to wipe the mess. I was mad with that comment because she saw we had 3 kids at the table. That's bad customer service!! How can you say that to customers?! After our second noodle dish came, we ate quick and left. We still gave a 10% tip because we're not going to be those people that leave $0. We all thought the service sucked. I don't ever want to dine at this place again (post pandemic) with that type of service and that waitress. Just because we spoke Cantonese it doesn't mean we should tolerate your bad customer service. I feel like this restaurant was only concerned with their phone/takeout orders because those customers who came in to pick up their food, it was bagged or boxed and ready to go. I mean I wouldn't go out of my way to find parking in Chinatown/Downtown area but if I want good Chinese food, I'd definitely make an exception! Usually you get dim sum till about 5pm and most places would run out or usually doesn't serve it, but this place is different!! They actually service dim sum throughout the day till 9pm!!! Like omg!! When you want your dim sum and Chinese fix, this is the place to go!! I was having a early Christmas gathering with close friends and we decided to order take out dinner from here. So we did a mix of dim sum and Chinese food. We ordered 2 of each of the ha gao (shrimp dumplings), siu mai (pork hash), foong jao (chicken feet), one order of baked and steamed cha siu bao, one order of Yang Chow fried rice, sweet sour pork, and Singaporean rice noodles. It was for 5 people and we still had left overs! The food was really good and I definitely say that their dim sum is one of the better places to get from. Only down side was their chicken feet wasn't as flavorful as other places and that one would need a bit more work but other than that all the order food we got was really good! They serve the normal Chinese restaurant in addition to the dim sum, so I can pretty much order everything my heart desires from here! ~ TOP 3 ~ 1. House Special Cake Noodle - For takeout, they deliver/serve the cake noodles separately from the sauce. I love that they do this so the noodles don't get mushy by the time you're ready to eat. There's chicken, veggies, char siu, fish, and seafood in this dish. I honestly think this is one of my favorite places to get cake noodle. 2. Fried Shrimp with Walnut - This place does this dish very well. The shrimp are tasty and flavorful without too much of a breading, and you get a generous amount of walnuts. I personally really like the walnuts so it's a plus for me! 3. Crispy Seaweed Roll - I love this crunchy roll! It's basically a bundle of nori-wrapped seafood that's coated in a crispy batter and deep-fried. So tasty and perfect piping hot after a little dip in hot mustard. I've eaten here a number of times (although I seem to remember a different name for the establishment prior to this visit). In the past, the dim sum was always very good and fresh. But now it seems that they serve you from a warming cabinet rather than the kitchen. We got several plates that came out of this cabinet and were a little worse for sitting around for what must have been quite some time. Each order that came from the cabinet was tepid and a little greasy. Everything that came directly from the kitchen was tasty and hot. A birthday UYE for Braddah Fran C! Birthday boy wanted dim sum, so the world famous Aunty Nadine C organized a celebration at Ginger & Garlic downtown. This is a standard spot for dimsum downtown, a little bit closer to Bishop square than a lot of other spots. They also have a few items that are hard to find at other places, including soup dumplings and youtiao stuffed look fun (I'm forgetting the name). I've had takeout from here a few times and have tried various buns and meat, including fried chicken that my brother ordered as part of a prank. This time, I came hoping to get dimsum after luckily finding parking a block over. I was, however, there late Saturday night, and found out that most of their dimsum, and many other items, were already sold out. Although the menu is vast, I particularly liked the snow bun, which is similar to tim ho wan's flaky take on manapua, the minute chicken, and the egg tarts. I;ve had better soup dumplings elsewhere, and the fried tofu with shrimp barely had shrimp, although the dip was good. Dim sum lunch on a weekday here used to be packed but with COVID-19 it was about half full but the food is still great. We ordered beef look fun which is fresh and tasty. I am not an expert but I have certainly had my fair share of dim sum in manhattan, Seattle, Portland and Calgary. As many know, har gow and siu mai are the classic deciders by which we gauge the quality of any dim sum spot! The blazing yellow siu mai we received were only mildly warm and were fairly bland, lacking flavor and juiciness. The har gow looked perfect and the filling was nice but the wheat starch skins were thicker and hunkier compared to excellent examples I've had in the past The chicken feet were sloppy and mushy. Other items were not as delicious and inspiring as I've had at other joints. Mapo tofu - not spicy enough even though we asked for extra spicy but still good. Ong choy with chili and bean curd - LOVE LOVE LOVE this dish even my cousins who hate veggies ate it. Beef chow fun (dry) - sliced thin and thick because the noodles were either stuck together or piled up not sure why. It changed the taste of the chow fun which was not as good. Char siu fried rice - we been craving rice for some reason and this came out pretty nice. Came with a decent amount of char siu but the veggies like carrot tasted like the ones you get out of the frozen bag. Chicken - tad dry white meat but otherwise no complaints. Fish casserole with tofu - sauce was ok i've had better. Fish was meaty but beware of bones. We do takeout from Ginger & Garlic fairly often and last night was no exception. We love that our order is ready really quickly & we can eat in the comfort of our home lol (yes.. I'm a homebody haha). Every time we order from Ginger & Garlic, we love all of the food and would usually give a solid 5-star, however our most recent order didn't feel that the food was AS good as before. We love the lotus leaf sticky rice! Usually the rice is sticky & flavorful, but this time it looked like the rice hadn't steamed long enough so it was still a little crumbly. Our xiao long bao were all broken so some soup had spilled out (this has happened before, so an ongoing issue?). We love the flavor of the spareribs! Except this time the bones were kind of crumbly? I'm not sure what would cause this, overcooking maybe.. Either way, for us these were fairly minor issues & we will continue to order from Ginger & Garlic whenever we crave dim sum! read more

I'm so happy the former Mei-Sum restaurant is no longer in this location. Was not a fan of Mei-Sum even though I've tried to like it more than several dine-ins. Ginger & Garlic is a better dim-sum restaurant by far IMHO. Frequenting G & G is convenient and easy when it comes to enjoying dim-sum outside of the Cultural Plaza. Ever since G & G opened their doors, I have been a returning customer and occasionally take friends to share in their delicious dim-sum offerings on a daily basis. There are a few things on the menu I must order whenever I'm eating here. First and foremost, must order the Xiamen style vermicelli noodle dish. This dish has such a delicate and addicting taste with all the tidbits of veggies, char-siu strips and shrimp. Moreover, their har gow (steamed shrimp dumpling) with its translucent skins are fresh and inviting. Juicy siu mai (pork hash) comes in four pieces are quite tasty tender. My most favorite of all time is the seafood bean curd pan-fried pockets are extremely savory crispy. Lol...chicken feet are somewhat comparable to my "to go" dim sum eatery Happy Garden, which unfortunately succumbed to the pandemic fallout. Ginger and Garlic will be my replacement and it's easy to understand why. Place is white interior clean-looking, ample seating considering Chinatown's spacing while servicing is quite satisfactory. Overall, it's a nice place in terms of ambiance and a clean decor which is not typical of a "red glitzy" Chinese brightness. A welcoming non-traditional relaxing place to dine in without feeling all "scrunched in". I like their customer service, especially with my numerous requests for tea pot refills...I mainly eat dim sum to drink pots of tea...that's how I get my antioxidants hehe... Hoping I get the chance to try more of their menu items instead of dim sum but alas, it's hard to turn down dim sum. The only complaint I have is the Chinatown parking situation. When little village closed I decided to try Garlic and Ginger to satisfy my Chinese food craving and the first time was just ok. The subsequent 3 times the quality of the food, flavor and presentation went down. In fact the last time I went the food tasted strange like the taste of what ammonia smells like. I didn't get sick but I will not go back there again. In my experience the Chineese who work in Chineese restaurants tend to be not the most happy acting service oriented people as far as American standards go for service. With that said most of the Chineese restaurants that I've been to recently the employees try to be pleasant and patient. My experience at Garlic and Ginger the same lady who took my payment just seemed to be unhappy, impatient, not wanting to help me whatsoever. Ate here for lunch and we had the dim sum. The pork hash is the smallest I've ever seen made and it was just okay. Nothing to brag about. We also had a pork Jindui since they ran out of the red bean obes. It was not good at all. Maybe it has couple specks of pork and that about it, in oil soaked fried mochi. The other dim sum we had were also just average. None of the dishes blew us away. The dishes including the plates and the sauce dishes were dirty. I had to wipe them down well before we used them. I definitely recommend the Chinese donuts in look fun (炸酿）because it was super fresh which meant the donuts were crispy and the look fun was smooth & tasty with the dipping sauce. I also enjoyed the snow taro buns & custard buns b/c the fillings were generous. The scallop fried rice was very good as well. When this place first opened it was awful. I swore I would never return. But then my cousin asked me to meet her for lunch here and I didn't want to argue so we went. I mean, did they wave a magic want and fix everything? Because it was just that good. We usually go for dim sum so I can't speak to anything else. But the service is spot on and every dish is just delicious, prepared perfectly. Fried dishes are not too oily, steamed dishes are not wet, and everything was so yummy!! Nothing but street parking here, but there is a municipal lot about a half block away, accessible from Beretania in addition. Be advised that it did take a long time, close to one hour, after ordered to be served; however, it definitely was well worth the wait. Free street parking was a little challenge during normal dinner hours, but there were ample paid public parking facilities, including one just across the street. Came to Ginger and Garlic on a Sunday for dim sum brunch. The restaurant sits on the corner of Smith and Pauahi Sts directly across from Char Hung Sut. The inside is bright and well lit, making the space feel open, clean, and welcoming. We got a variety of dim sum - all very tasty! Among the spread was fried taro, shrimp siu mai, char siu bao, sticky rice, shrimp spinach dumplings, mushroom chicken, and noodles. Ginger and Garlic is all known for this type of bao that looks like a mushroom and has mushroom filling inside. Overall service was great. Wait staff and kitchen staff were all very nice! Adjacent public paid parking lot ($2/hr) and street parking make this location a lot easier to dine at. I will definitely return again soon! read more

I passed by here yesterday while running errands in Chinatown, but was able to come here with a friend and his friends for lunch today! The name of the restaurant reflects two of my favorite ingredients. We ordered a bunch of dim sum, including the baked manapua (焗叉燒包), siumai (燒賣), ha gao (鮮蝦餃), and other delicious dim sum. There were different sauces, including a red vinegar for the soup dumpling (上海小籠包) and a sweet soy sauce for the steamed look fun with fried bread stick (炸兩，油條腸粉).
