What an odd place. They had a menu posted outside so we ordered takeaway from the menu. They then told us that we would have to pay more as the menu that they had both outside and inside was an old one... I explained that this was illegal i.e. to advertise one price then charge another. They got very snotty and just said to pay the higher price or don't get the food. We paid the higher price as we were interested in trying the food. The food was bland and way overpriced... The service, for a take away, was unintelligent, scattered and rude. We will not be going here again... As another reviewer said, PF Changs is accross the road - we will go there instead! read more

This place is underrated. Their food is very good - the vegetable dumplings are great (add hot sauce). The 'vegetarian' Kung Pau chicken (it's tofu) is very tasty: even meat lovers will like it. And they have this tender, delicious vegetarian dish called 'Sautéed Vegetable de Asia' which is made with eggplants, tofu, and eggs. Amazingly good! read more

Ginger Cafe catered our wedding reception and what an amazing job they did! Our guests kept talking about how good the food was, even went on to list their particular favorite dishes (and pretty much every dish made it to the collective favorite list). All the kids (and adults) absolutely loved the pig custard buns. We got so many photos of them :) Tuyen and Bo were fantastic to work with. They were easy going and very willing to customize the menu to fit our tastes. And their prices are very reasonable. After the wedding, we also turned to them when we needed to cater a non-profit's holiday party fundraising dinner. Our guests at that party also loved the food. And we were so glad for the generous discount they provided to our non-profit. Love that they have big hearts as well! read more

Really? I don't understand all the good reviews for this place. The food here is mediocre at best and I've been here enough times so it wasn't just a one time flop. The quality of food is not the best and it just doesn't taste very good. And the dim sum items...ughhh I would never come here for dim sum. Good Food..... Pleasant environment.... one word of advice.... choose your dishes carefully.... the specially made ones (shrimp, pepper beef, crab appetizer) rather than the traditional dishes such as kung pao chicken are much more flavorful.....keep finding myself coming back again and again! read more

We read the reviews carefully and looked forward to a meal here at Ginger Cafe, particularly some dim sum. The crab dim sum had no crab in them, rather were stuffed with fake crab (colored Pollock fish) which is easy to indetify by fishy taste and look! Need I say more? Ok I will if you need more!. We are used to real Chinese food in Monterrey Park, LA, SF, etc. We were a little cautious and so ordered the dim sum sampler and drinks to try it out before committing to a full meal. The platter arrived with 2 each of four dim sum. They really were a disappointment. The steamed wrappers were too chewy, sort of tough, perhaps too old. The crab dim sum...... see above. Since it opened, Ginger Cafe has been one of my all-time favorite restaurants, and I was born in this area. It's not necessarily where I go for Chinese food specifically. It's in a class all of its own. Their orange chicken is my ultimate comfort food (all white meat and the perfect level of deep friedness). It's crispy tofu of Mandarin sauce has been my go-to sickness-beating meal for years. It's veggie delight kicks the heck out of any salad for me. And it's dim sum is so yummy and accessible - maybe it's not brought on carts, but it's pretty awesome not to wait an hour to be seated for a dim sum meal! Ginger Cafe, I'll love you forever. 5 stars for being my favorite Chinese restaurant, hands down. I've been here several times and the service and food have never disappointed me. I typically get the sizzling rice soup and orange beef which are both amazing. You typically see the orange chicken at places like Panda Express so the orange beef is a wonderful little spinoff. Something I recently discovered was the crispy tofu in mandarin sauce. The second I took a bite, it blew my mind. Do yourself a favor and the next time you're waiting for a table at PF Changs, go across the street and grab a table at Ginger Cafe. Yum yum read more

I got the shrimp spring roll and the soft shell crab salad with extra lettuce and the sauce on the side. Both were tasty but I thought the proportions of the crab salad were off. Even with the extra lettuce, there was an overabundance of noodles and not enough lettuce. The crab portion was fine though. I'd eat here again if someone else suggested it. read more

I think this restaurant boasts the best lettuce wraps i have found (much better than PF Changs in my opinion). Every time I come, I am tempted by the various appetizers, and I'm always glad to have tried them. Although very sticky (!) the potstickers are very tastey. The food is way too greasy. The rice and jicama rolls were dripping oil. The chilli chicken was seemingly fried in leftover oil, with a texture that was way too crispy and basically tasted weird. The service was great here but unfortunately the food wasn't. We got the lemongrass chicken which tasted like pure ginger (and I like me some ginger usually but not when it tastes like you're eating the actual root). We also got the thai vegetarian duck, which was really really weird tasting, had a note of sourdough taste in it but it was supposed to be imitation duck. I got the Basil Chicken, which was ok. The only thing I really like from this dish was the bamboo shoots (I mean, you can hardly mess that up). The flavors were quite mediocre and not very "wowing." What I did actually enjoy from here was the porcupine custard buns. They were the CUTEST food items I have ever seen! how many times have i been here and never written a review? now's the time people! i love that when you walk into this place that is very unassuming from the outside, it's warm and inviting and pretty inside. it's not big, but it's comfortable. during lunch, their specials are delicious. you get a heaping portion of food along with rice and soup (the various kinds we've had have all been very tasty). the price is reasonable and the service is pretty prompt. dinner is usually a pretty busy time, but we've always had good service and great food. i'm a huge fan of the green bean chicken. my boyfriend loves the mongolian beef. and even though nothing can ever compare to my favorite crab rangoons in a hidden food court in boston, the crab rangoons here aren't too shabby. not to mention they are stuffed and good size. a good deal is their 3 course dinner menu selections. you can get food for 2 which includes an appetizer, main dishes and dessert. as with the other food, the portions here are generous and the food comes piping hot to the table. and do yourself a favor and try the fried bananas for dessert. gooey bananas inside a crispy eggroll skin with a side of coconut ice cream? yes please! they have quite a selection of mixed drinks which we haven't tried yet. but i have been mesmerized by the bartendar shaking things up when we sit near the bar on many occasions! maybe next time...... read more

We were searching for a restaurant to eat at along the way to Babies R Us in Sunnyvale and we saw a big sign for Ginger Cafe. We thought it must be some sort of southeast asia fusion cuisine, so I said let's go there. Well, I got more hesitant as we turned into the parking lot and found that it was in this mall complex with not much else around. We were pleasantly surprised with our meal. Quite a lot of food for the price we paid, but we did stick with what we deemed to be "safe". I ordered the lunch special garlic eggplant and my husband ordered the orange chicken. He said the chicken was pretty moist and I enjoyed the garlicky taste of my eggplant. We noticed that they served dim sum as well, we knew enough to stay away from that!!! I am surprised that other people say their dim sum is not good, I have had dim sum at many places in the South Bay, San Francisco, in Boston, and in China also! My coworker suggested this place for lunch with our business partners. From the name of the restaurant I was thinking some kind of American food. By the time I figured out it's Chinese fusion, we were already on the way and too late for me to back out of it. Being a Chinese, anything non authentic is likely a disappointment to me, and this place is no exception. I ordered the XO sauce fried rice, thinking it a safe bet. What can really go wrong with that, right? Well, the rice was too soggy for fried rice, and the flavor was quite lackluster. They do give you a huge portion for ~$12 + tax & tips. Even with the sub par experience, I still consider my lucky after seeing the orange chicken that my coworker ordered. Came here one day with a group of friends. The decor was nice and the service was good. We ordered a bunch a food...the two types of crab, seabass, veggies, soup, scallops, fried rice, noodles and some other type of fish. Both crab dishes were not good. I haven't been here in a while cause the prices scare me since I'm currently looking for a job. Other than that, the food was good. I was really surprised that they had sweet and sour vegetarian chicken. The rice here had a fancy feel to it (at least when I had it), but the vegetarian chicken felt like I bought it from a fast food place (that is good and bad). Tastes great... but it was a bit oily. i work up Mathilda from this joint, and actually remember it getting built. i finally was taken there by a co-worker and was fairy impressed. In my couple visits, i've been able to have string bean chicken, orange chicken, chow fun, and sweet & sour pork. All of them were really good and not super greasy like some other chinese restaurants. string bean chicken is done great.. chicken isn't overcooked, and the green beans are cooked al dente and are crunchy and flavorful. yum! the orange chicken and sweet & sour pork are good. plenty of sauce and they give you a good amount of chicken. big fan here! read more
