My husband and I finally ventured into Ginger Cafe last night. We saw the signs before the restaurant was complete but never really knew what type of place this was... It's beautifully decorated indoors, the staff is super-friendly and were really nice to my 18 month old. We had the kung pao veggi chicken and fried rice... both were quiet yummy. Excellent Asian fusion in a fairly hip setting. More palatable than Sino and less experimental than Straits, the cooking at Ginger Cafe is fresh, different enough to be interesting, and done with great taste and style. Chinese with South and Southeast Asian influences including a clever cumin lamb dish, curry-tinged dishes, and slightly off-center renditions of Chinese dishes that are tastefully westernized without being pandering or overly cute. It's a difficult line to walk successfully, and it's carried off with great skill and to unique effect at Ginger Cafe. Some of the excellent dishes include the Tamarind Prawns, Cumin Lamb, any of the beef dishes, Thai Curry Vegetarian Duck. Haven't tried the fried rice but other tables had it and it looked delicious. Some of the dishes are stronger than others. Dim Sum is reportedly mediocre. The dishes that are good are outstandingly good; great even! The main chefs are "Mandarin" and "Cantonese," and they definitely know their way around international cooking and Asian flavors. Quality of ingredients is consistently very good. Ginger Cafe is a rare and unexpected gem. Highly recommended. read more

Tried this place for a friend's birthday and the majority of the food was delicious. Appetizers: calamari and shrimp on fried crackers-sauce was light but very tasty and the calamari was fresh. Soft shell crab spring roll-again very tasty and fresh, they didn't skimp on the crab either. Dim sum-just your average dim sum, nothing too special. Entrees: Filet mignon luc lac-the beef melts in your mouth and the seasonings on it seem so simple but pair very well with the meat. Today was my second time coming here, so I figured I should get around to writing a review. For starters, Ginger Cafe is appropriately named as it has a nice, cozy cafe feel to it, but also some accents that makes it feel like a trendier restaurant. The seating arrangement is kinda neat as it goes in a circular pattern with a booth in the center. The decor makes me think the decorator made one stop at Crate and Barrel and nabbed a bunch of Asian looking pieces so that it's pretty apparent that, yep, you're in an Asian eatery (if you didn't know from the food choices.) The first trip I made based on a search result for local brunch places. I tried the Hot and Sour soup, dim sum sampler set, and the Mongolian beef. All dishes were very good, but especially the dim sum assortment of various crab and shrimp dumplings, puffs, and wontons. Also served in the sampler were some very fluffy and delicious pork buns. The sampler came out fresh and hot--definitely a must to try. The Mongolian beef was fairly spicy--I think it was rated 2 chili peppers on the menu. Spicy but not too spicy, just enough for you to enjoy the taste. The second trip I just had a lunch of Fried Tofu in Mandarin sauce. Soup of the Day was egg and corn chowder. I started off with a sampler of egg rolls. Both dishes were fresh and understated--which is fine by me. Better fresh and understated than oily and too much sauce. Overall impression is that the food tastes pretty fresh without being too greasy (fried eggrolls will naturally be a little oily--but they managed to still taste crisp and fresh.) The flavors are pretty solid, if not a bit mellow to appeal to a wider audience. Spicy menu items are suitably marked while still providing a satisfying heat. Service both times has been remarkable. Very attentive and quick. Strengths--Service and Dim Sum/lunch menu Weakness--prices are kinda high, but I feel they are okay for the quality of the food. My favorite "Asian Fusion" restaurant. Prices are very reasonable and service is good. I don't even think about going to PF Chang's anymore because I'd rather come here. Orange Beef is awesome and so are a few other dishes like the sizzling rice soup, caramelized prawns. Obviously, this isn't a place for dim sum but if you're coming here for dim sum you probably don't go to authentic Chinese restaurants anyways. I had wanted to try Ginger Cafe for a few years but something always seemed to interfere. But last night I had a chance to try it and it was fantastic. I made reservations at opentable.com however I did not really need them since there was no wait and plenty of seating when I arrived. For the appetizer, I ordered the soft shell crab spring rolls which you can see on their online menu. It came with a brown sauce which complimented it. For the main course, we ordered potato beef and caramelized garlic prawn. The potato beef was my favorite and it was great. The potatoes were cooked well as was the beef and they had some sort of pepper sauce. The prawn were excellent also and just be careful of the hot chilis in the dish. We actually could not finish it all and took half of the potato beef home. I saw many items that I will be trying in futures visits with friends and family. read more

I had heard of the popularity of Ginger Cafe so I called ahead for reservations. I have had dinner from here before but just take out, so I was looking forward to this. We showed up approximately 8pm and the restaurant was nearly empty? It was a Saturday night at 8pm? We were seated and given menus and a waitress came by to give us water. We didn't see anyone again for 15 mins. There were adequate servers, they just were too busy sitting at the tables and chatting. We ordered dim sum and two entrees. Got the dim sim dishes after about 10 mins which were ok, not great but ok. We didn't see any other food for almost 40 mins! Finally the other dishes came and were tasty! In short food is good, service is bad. Slow, slow service, and needlessly so. Restaurant only had 4 tables! Each time a server came to our table it was someone different who barely spoke and who hardly made eye contact. Gave two stars because the food is good, but the service and speed borders on bad to terrible. read more

My friends at work and I absolutely adore coming here during happy hour! I am a huge fan of their $4 maitais and margaritas during happy hour. They also have this amazing menu during that time where you can get an appetizer that comes with a glass of wine or a glass of beer. I'm a huge fan of their entire happy hour menu. I sadly have never been here during regular business hours, but I can tell you, if you've had a hard day at the office, like many of my girlfriends and I have, this is a great place to unwind and have a few laughs after work. I do wish the staff would be a bit quicker at taking your order. I feel like because its happy hour, they aren't as quick at getting to your table. That's only mine and my friends opinion. An average Asian restaurant which would have been A-OK but the service is quite lacking bringing it further down. The ambience is pretty nice and they have a well stocked bar with a fairly good cocktail/mocktail menu. Their dim sum dumplings are so-so, a little too sticky. Their main course items are much better, I recommend the Chardonnay Mushroom and the Vegetable De Asia spicy dish, they really hit the spot. Their noodles are good, but their fried rice-not so much, we had a pineapple fried rice which just seemed like scrambled eggs and pineapple pieces mixed in with oily rice. Service was very disappointing. One of the appetizers we ordered was placed on top of a stack of menus when we were served, who does that? No properly arranged or set up plates and cutlery, very few check ups on how we were doing. We actually walked up to the people working in the bar to ask for what we wanted rather than wait for service. It was an early Sunday lunch, was not very busy. Please work on improving on this. The basil chicken was pure garlic, the orange chicken was coated in a thick breading that was peeling off, the Chinese chicken salad was cold, tough, and stringy. The standard beef chow fun here was great for $12. The beef was the best cut of beef I had ever seen in chow fun and the beef was cooked to perfection. Just a hint of pink. The onions were also good. Normally I hate onions but these were great. Noodles were also great. Only thing that could help is using a bit less oil to cook but it was still below anything else of the same price point. Swung by for a late dinner. It has a PF Chang's look and feel to it. Ambience was good. Service was excellent. Both the waitress and manager / owner frequently checked up on me. Portions are generous. They give big family style portions at a price that's a little higher than traditional Chinese restaurants but still competitive with Western ones. Food could be better though. I ordered the twice cooked pork, the crispy tofu, and a small fried rice. The flavor of the pork was overwhelmed by the sauce. The tofu was a little too sweet and got soggy quick. Fried rice was excellent though -- apparently, they made a fresh batch just for me. Still, overall a positive experience. The other reviews say to go for the potato beef so I'll try that next time. read more
