I'm visiting my daughter in Chicago and we're going to some of my old favorite restaurants. I've been coming to Giordano's on nearly every trip since the 1980's. I've tried other deep-dish places, they're good, but in my book Giordano's remains the benchmark. We went to the West Loop locale for lunch. Wow, I remember when there were only a few locations - this place looked newer and upscale compared to the downtown locales I once haunted. At any rate, we ordered a small pizza - yes, for the two of us, they're that filling. Did you know you can go half-and-half on items? This is very important for my daughter and I as our tastes vary considerably. She ordered Canadian bacon, tomatoes and broccoli on her half, while I had garlic, mushrooms, spinach and bacon for mine. Just look at that photo! Such thick, ooey-gooey cheesey deliciousness. To me it's that cheese that sets Giordano's apart from other deep-dish establishments. One small pizza is ample for two people. In fact I only ate a single slice. Not that I couldn't have eaten more, but it was only lunch and hey, a guy's gotta watch his figure. The pizza was as good as ever! I'm very pleased to have turned my daughter into a fan. I highly recommend this or any of Giordano's Chicago locations. And for the purists who say deep-dish isn't really pizza (but a casserole, maybe?) I say.....who cares! It's a Chicago classic, it's delicious, enjoy a pie on your next visit here. PS - The pizza is made fresh as ordered so be prepared for a wait, it's all part of the experience. Love the super veggie full of mushrooms, green peppers, spinach, broccoli, black olives and garlic. Visited Vegas and Chicago locations and I must say this is quality pizza. Have tried a couple different recipes and went with the spinach this go round. Didn't miss the meat at all. Ok, I've come around to Giordano's. The pizza has grown on me, and dare I say it, tastes better than my (formerly) beloved Lou's. A friend of mine was in town for a conference and remembered Giordano's from his last visit. "I've been dreaming about it for years." So we even went to the spot we first had it. Unfortunately, it was also a busy weekend and I don't think they were prepared for it. The wait wasn't too long but you could just tell the staff was overwhelmed. We started at the bar but the bartender was trying to help out, expoing food, clearing tables ON TOP of tending the bar, getting a beer was difficult. Again, this is no fault of the staff, they were trying their best. Once we got seated, it was hard to find a server. I honestly couldn't tell who was taking care of who or what tables were in what section. Seriously, someone came to take our order and then someone else came by to see if we needed anything and then we fine and then we finally just flagged anyone down. read more

Our order was prepared quickly and was ready shortly after we arrived. We live in The Loop but opted for their West Loop location since Lollapalooza is going on in our neighborhood and we wanted to avoid the crowds. This was our first time at the West Loop location and the experience went well. We don't typically order from Giordano's, but you really can't go wrong with them. My friend and I were on a time crunch and decided to share an individual sized deep dish pizza. It was just an appetizer that served for another meal later on in the night. Honestly, the server said 25-30 minutes was required to prepare it, but in reality it took close to 45 minutes. We barely made our next dinner reservation. Furthermore, we asked for the bill while the pizza was being prepared, but didn't get it until much later. We got the check while we were finishing up our last few bites. Regarding the pizza itself and coming from a person who is experiencing deep dish pizza for the first time ever, it was mediocre. I liked how the crust was not too thick or thin, and was crusty/crunchy! Cheese was on point, but the pizza aroma was still a bit lacking. It kind of felt like it was cooked half heartedly without that "hearty" pizza goodness. Long review short: below average service, average Joe deep dish pizza (from what I believe deep dish pizza's potential could be). I have been to many different Giordanos locations and this is the best location thus far. The service is superior to all other locations I've been to with the location on 52nd and Pulaski being the worst. The food even tastes better here to be honest. I had a reservation for a table of 14 people and the restaurant was very accommodating and even seated us in the private banquet area. The restaurant is also the cleanest location I've been to. We had our rehearsal dinner here, and I have to say Giordano's really dropped the ball. Setting up the logistics was actually really great-- no other pizza place was so helpful or flexible. We needed an extension beyond the normal length of their contract, and they were happy to oblige. But on the night of the rehearsal dinner, they didn't take drink orders as they were meant to, they didn't refill water glasses, all of the soda was flat, and all of the pizza was cold. Giordano's was ok, but I honestly didn't feel it was anything special. I came here with my husband's family for dinner. They love pizza and all rave about deep dish pizzas. I can honestly say this was the first time I realized what deep dish pizza was. It's honestly not for me. I'm not sure what I thought it was but all that cheese is just too much. We ordered 2 deep dish pizzas and 2 thin pizzas. One deep dish was pepperoni and spinach and the other was sausage. Both of the thin crust were sausage pizzas. Now I can honestly say that the sausage they use on their pizzas is good. I don't usually like sausage pizza because it's not often you find a sausage that's authentic but their sausage was very good and tasted authentic. The thin crust pizza wasn't bad. It had a decent flavor. The deep dish pizza wasn't bad but it just wasn't for me. I didn't realize deep dish was a thin layer of crust on the bottom layered with meat and a WHHHOOLLEEE lot of cheese stacked and piled on top of itself with high bread sides. I just don't like that the majority of the pizza is cheese. I like a good amount of cheese but with a deep dish it's overkill. Overall, Giordano's pizza was ok and not bad. It just didn't give me the wow factor. It was good for the moment but I'm sure there are better pizza joints out there, especially in Chi-town. read more

When you come to the town and you're looking for something that is stereotypical Chicago, this is the place. I've come here a few times before, and it says something that every time I'm in town that I always stop with my friends. My friends live here in Chicago. And they get to try all of the competitors' deep dish pizza and yet they are still happy to come here as well. I just found out that they also can ship pizzas to other places. First of all, why this location you may ask? Being tucked away near UIC, you definitely face less crowds than other Giordano's downtown. I was here twice this last week and each time, we were promptly seated with no hour long wait. Now the real question is, how does the food compare? Each time I go get deep dish, I usually order a calamari to start before proceeding with the 45-minute wait for the pizza. At Giordano's, the calamari was decent with a couple of fried veggies mixed in for some variety. Nothing outstanding to be honest, but gets the job done. The pizzas here are quite large, even for a small! Get a personal size if you are thinking of tackling one by yourself. Let your pride aside. However, if you're with a group, a small size can easily feed 3 people. My first time here, we went all out with our meat, and the sausage here definitely makes the pizza awesome. My second time, we ordered a deep dish loaded with veggies and asked for sausages. Unfortunately, they seemed to forget our side ingredient which would have made the pizza much better. Overall, toppings are solid, and the crust at Giordano's is okay. It's not as buttery as other chains, and I wish it was because the crust should be the defining part of a deep dish. Service here was good, but wish it could have been a bit more attentive given that there aren't as many patrons at this location. A very spacious Giordano's just outside of The Loop, which makes this location much less busy (and wait times are usually much shorter) than the more popular, tourist-y Giordano's in The Loop. For this reason, it's actually my preferred Giordano's spot if I'm downtown. I've only ever gotten the deep dish pizza here so I can only really speak to that. It's usually pretty good, but there have been times when the pizza was a tad bit dry and didn't have as much flavor as it did other times I've been here. That being said, I'm usually pretty satisfied after eating here. Service has never been particularly spectacular, but I don't really have any complaints either. Delivery driver stole my order after waiting for an hour on a Saturday night. Would give 0 stars if I could.

I can't say if food is good or bad, but the service was terrible. I am not sure if it was because we were only two, but we waited for 20 minutes and no one brought us water or come to check on us. When I went up to a server and explained that no one had given us service, she said that we weren't in her section...she did tell the hostess. My friend and I walked out. I think we would have stayed had someone simply come by and told us sorry for the long wait, or the honest answer of making a mistake and over looking us. My friend and walked a few blocks toward Greek town and got good Greek food instead. I work in the service industry, and realize that not every night can be a stellar night, but I found the lack of service was just dumb founding. read more

Despite the risk of starting World War III, I'll start off by saying I'm firmly in the Lou Malnati camp. I'm a crust guy - the crust can make or break a pizza for me. Giordano's is known for their "stuffed" pizza, with ingredients in the middle. The selection of "toppings" (really, more like stuffings between the layers of cheese and tomato sauce) exceeds that of Lou Malnati's by quite a bit. The crust, however, has a texture reminiscent of softer cardboard, and has minimal flavor; it acts as a medium to carry a pizza rather than a complement. That said, Giodano's isn't a bad pizza by any means, and this location is far from being a bad restaurant. Service was snappy, and the pizzas are individually baked with each order. Expect a 40 min wait, even when not busy because of this. However, the pizzas do come out piping hot and very fresh. If the two restaurants (Lou and Giordano) got together and made a deep dish that combined their crusts and stuffings... I'd be sold. For now, I'll just have to settle for whichever I'm craving. read more

We had giordano's catered at our lunch today. I usually would have low expectations for catered pizza as I usually prefer pizza that's piping hot right out of the oven, but they did a great job maintaining temperature and freshness. I'm new to Chicago and have only tried pequod's, so deep dish isn't an expertise of mine at all, but I definitely enjoyed it. Pequod's seemed to be heavier on the crust than giordano's rich, thick cheese and sauce layering that comprised the vast majority of the thickness of the pizza. We had their sausage and veggie pizzas. Both were delicious, though I was more impressed with the veggie pizza simply due to the fact that it's usually not easy for me to enjoy veggie pizza, so major points for that. read more
