The only reason this restaurant would get a third star would be because of the excellent manager. My two friends and I were very excited about going to Giordano's due to the amazing reviews and great pizza but we were so disappointed. The staff at the desk weren't very enthusiastic when we walked in but we still remained excited about the food. Our waiter Ryan L. was rude and seemed very bothered. We ordered our food but before he left we asked if he could recommend something to first timers "but you already ordered" was his response. He hadn't even put in our order or even walked a step away from us he just wrote it on his notepad. I finished my water and one of my friends finished her Pepsi and it wasn't until the manager came around asking if everything was ok that we were able to get refills and utensils since they only gave us 1 when we were a party of 3. We ordered one small cheese deep dish pizza and one small meat deep dish pizza. He set down the pizzas and started us off with cheese by just tossing it onto our plate and leaving. He didn't ask if we wanted to start with cheese, just assumed. Ryan also never came back and asked if the food was good or if we wanted anything else. The pizza was ok. It was cold on the inside but the crust tasted good. The couple behind us actually sent back their pizza because theirs was cold also. We appreciated the manager coming by and seeing if things were ok and if he would have done so at the end of the meal we would have complained because that service was just terrible. My boyfriend and I ordered fettuccini Alfredo with chicken and broccoli for two, a personal deep dish pizza, and a side salad. The pasta dish was pricey, but huge (we could've split a dish for one instead of two). However, I wouldn't order it again. The Alfredo sauce was just OK, the broccoli was over cooked/soggy, and the chicken tasted like the frozen bags of Tyson grilled chicken. It did come with 4 pieces of bread. My husband and I went to this Giordano's last night before a soccer game at Soldier Field. We've both been to Giordano's before, so we knew the pizza would be great and we knew the restaurant would be busy. We got there around 5:15. We didn't have to wait for a table, but it was clear things were hectic. The hosts/hostesses looked frazzled, and the servers were rushing around. The tables in this restaurant are really packed in. There is only room for one person to walk between tables, so this kinds of adds to the stressed atmosphere as you see servers rushing around with food and drinks trying to navigate between furniture and customers and each other. We sat for 20 minutes before anyone came to take our drink order. We had seen our waitress rushing around that whole time, not knowing she was our waitress yet. She was definitely not slacking. I noticed the servers don't carry anything on trays there (maybe because there's not enough room to carry trays), so just trying to refill the drinks of the large party next to us took her 3 or 4 trips. I felt a little bad for her. So after she took our drink and food order, she brought us our water another 10 minutes later (30 minutes seated without a drink), and she didn't come back until 3o minutes later when she dropped off our pizza. She didn't say anything when she dropped it off. Just set it down and left. She didn't come back again until we were done. No drink refills, didn't check on us, nothing. But we could still obviously see how busy she was. This was not just us, by the way. A party of 6 seated near us was there for a very long time (at least 3o minutes, and I think longer) before she brought them their drinks. We saw another server go to the host station and ask if a certain number table belonged to her. They confirmed that it did, and we heard her say "Sh**!" and rush off toward them. Who knows how long they were sitting without service. After our waitress brought us our check, we put in our credit card right away, but it took her at least 15 minutes to come back and get it, and then we waited several more minutes before she brought it back. She just kind of said to have a nice night. So....The server wasn't rude, but just overstretched and largely absent. The worse part was that we were sitting close to the host station, and that was absolutely obnoxious. It started to get really crowded, and there isn't enough room for people to wait, so it felt like there were a lot of people standing very close to us and talking loudly while we were eating. I guess that's just part of the atmosphere, but it's kind of disconcerting. And for the love of all that is good, this place needs to get some buzzers for people who are waiting for tables. It was really loud in the waiting area, and the hostess was SCREECHING names every 30 seconds. "John, party of 2? JOHN, party of 2? JOHN?!!?! JOHN?!!!!! JOHN, PARTY OF 2!!!!!!!!!" (Not the best soundtrack to eat dinner by.) So, I get it. It's Giordano's. It's a Chicago landmark and a tourist favorite. We were right by Soldier Field and there was a game on. But you would think the management would know what it's like to be slammed and adapt, and have more servers working. read more

Went to this location when family came into town from another state. They had never had deep dish and this place was nearby so we thought we'd give it a chance. We've never been so wrong. Service from the front station was atrocious. They were constantly rude about accommodating our group. We called ahead to let them know we were coming and what time. I know they don't take reservation, but at least take note that a large group might come so you can accommodate. Instead, we blocked your entire entry way for 20 min getting in the way of other patrons and servers. We planned, you didn't. Then you seat us at two different tables to get us out of the way. You should have provided the option to move to a larger table as our server even told us a large table cleared up within 7 min of us being seated. Then you sad you can't move us after we already sat down?! Seriously?! I've never been to a chain restaurant that is so incredibly disconnected and disorganized. As we sat separately, we ordered our 3 deep dish pizzas. One came out completely soggy and gooey - uncooked. I'm not sure how that's possible after 45 min. Isn't this supposed to be your specialty?! Most of the members in the group felt like the staff was rude, unapologetic for multiple mistakes, and stingy with side orders of items like hot peppers that we are paying extra for. There was never a single smile or positive comment from the hostess, server or anyone else that worked there. The entire mood was depressing. Bad service, bad food. Go to the location north of millennium park instead. By the way, this is the 2nd chance I've given them with the same issues. I hope management figures out how to better motivate their staff. This pizza is...just fine. I live in downtown and am and always have been a pizza lover. The crust is about the same caliber that I can make quickly at home. It has sort of a biscuit/cracker texture. It also has a rather bland flavor comparable to a biscuit. I like to be able to detect a bit of yeastiness in pizza crust. The sauce has a decent flavor. It is definitely on the sweeter end of restaurant sauces. I do add a bit of sugar when making sauce at home, just to balance the acidity of the tomato, but this was a bit much for me however my wife likes it sweeter than I do. The cheese is plentiful and seems to be predominantly or all mozzerella. I don't go in for uber-fancy cheese on pizza, goat and the like, but I also like more complexity than a mostly or all mozzerella pie provides. A nice blend of mozzerella with romano, asiago, etc gives a better flavor and a nice balance of stretch and breakage. Mozzerella alone gives you the super stretch, string cheese experience. The sausage was just fine. Had a hard time identifying it as a distinct flavor. Does have a little fennel which I always use in homemade sausage. This sausage was not bad by any means, just didnt stand out much. I also had mushrooms. Fresh and thick cut. Not much else to say about mushrooms. So to sum it up, I live one block from Giordanos and one mile from Lou Malnatis. I do not have a car. But 9 times out of 10 I will pick up from Malnatis and run the mile home (so the pizza is still hot). The 10th time I will go the one block to Giordanos. This one time will inspire me to run the mile for the next 9 pizzas. Also, when I have Lou Malnatis pizza, I am very satisfied and already looking forward to leftovers for lunch the next day. With Giordanos, I am immediately poking around the house for some kind of desert, and I am not excited (but neither dreading) leftovers. read more

Pizza was good. I almost never leave one star reviews but the one star is for dishonesty. We did have a large party. It took over an hour to get our food. Our water was never filled. The server took our check and this took over 30 min. I left around a 15% tip for a ~$15 order. I went home and looked at my credit card charges and found out that the waiter added a $7 tip so I was charged a heavier amount on my credit card. I have since called my credit card company to dispute the charge and will be asking them to leave $0 for tip as I would never recommend coming to this restaurant due to dishonest practices.
