I'm not a fan of the Chicago style pizza as I really like the New York. But I decided to give it a shot. I did try the thin crust which was much like the New York style. It was made traditionally so I did like they. The pizza was hot and has plenty of cheese. Ingredients were good, not too light but always enjoy fully loaded. I got a small sausage. The price is really what I found to be the problem. Very over priced for the pizza. It's tough finding a great pizza out there that I can thoroughly enjoy. Treated myself to many calories and carbs yesterday to a delicious personal deep dish stuffed pizza with pepperoni! It was sooooo good. I haven't had one of these in a few years either. Great service and even better food! It had been 3 years since I last had Giordano's and this meal did not disappoint! This location is fairly big and appears to be new. The inside was clean and we went during a time where it was not busy (around 4pm on a Thursday). As we were leaving, the crowd was definitely picking up. We ordered a large Meat and More Meat Deep Dish and the four of us ate twice. With that said, the pizza is much better fresh out of the oven and some of the deliciousness is lost when reheating (but it was still good). The pizza had pepperoni, salami, sausage and bacon. I wasn't a huge fan of the sausage, but the others were. The crust is the most delicious thing I've ever tasted. I actually think I'm going through withdrawal as I'm typing this review. Although the cost may seem a bit pricey, what you get is well worth the cost. It's worth saying that if you're hungry upon arrival, you should plan to order an appetizer and wait. I am a long time customer of Giordano's and I have never complained about the food but today I went to this Oak Brook location and had the worst most racist experience ever, the manager himself sat us at a table and they left us there to wait over 30 minutes while other people of the fair complexion were seated and given drinks and even ordered while me and my family waited, so I went up the the manager there who said he didn't realize we were waiting so I went back and sat for another 20 minutes watching other people get their orders. Pretty crappy if you ask me, so we got up and left and on the way out I expressed to the same guy for the first time how the situation was and he didn't seem to be care at all. My hope is that one day he experiences the same thing when he is out with his family and maybe he will learn how to treat everyone the same. read more

Before I moved here I visited Chicago a few times and loved Giordano's. Mainly because I hadn't had the other delicious pizzerias yet. Giordano's is good, but it just doesn't match Lou's butter crust or sausage patty. We ordered a medium garlic, giardiniera and sausage and it was overall good but it just wasn't meaty enough. The sausages were great but I felt like they were being modest with the amount. The crust I just didn't care for and I just found it to be way too dry. The best part of the pizza was definitely freshness of the ingredients. I particularly loved the amount of garlic they add. The two Long Islands we ordered were terrible. Sweet with no real flavor of anything. While it may not be my favorite deep dish in this city, there will always be a special place in my heart for Giordano's. read more

Someone said to me recently, "your are either a Giordano's fan or a Lou Malnati's fan when it comes to Chicago style pizza". Having tried and loved Lou Malnati's -- I decided to try Giordano's on a recent work trip. I ordered the signature deep dish and a salad for take out. The staff helping me with my order pick up were very welcoming and nice. In terms of the food - the salad was nothing special (not like the signature salad I got at their competitors) with just greens and dressing. O.K. So, it's late for lunch and I'm like, I could go for a nice beef. Well, Giordano's fit the bill to a tee. Bread was still a little crispy even after they piled on the curly, Italian beef and au jus. Good balance of Sweet and Spicy peppers; giardinera came with cauliflower, carrots and celery and sweet peppers were lightly sauteed but still bright green and crispy. You can get a small salad/Caesar, fries or soup. The Minnestrone was piping hot with lots of veggies (no pasta or kidney beans, neither were missed.) A little fat sheen on top added to the great flavor. Can't wait to have the family-sized House Salad with Lemon Vinaigrette! We visited Chicago and everyone told us we could not leave without trying Chicago's famous deep dish pizzas. I am so happy we listened! I am a thin crust girl to my core so I was very skeptical on trying their deep dish pizza. Who puts sauce on the top of pizza instead of cheese? Culinary geniuses from Chicago do, that's who. We decided to have the pizza delivered to our hotel. We went with "The Special" which had sausage, mushrooms, green peppers & onions. We also got the Calamari & more. The food came about an hour later. It was exceptional. Full of flavor. Full of cheese. Full of meat. The calamari could've used more salt, but it was fried to literal perfection. We ordered a small "pie" and it came to about $25. Compared to what we're used to paying for pizza, it was a bit pricey, but definitely well worth it. I've officially been conformed and prefer deep dish pizza over thin crust. So much so that we are attempting to recreate it at home. 10/10 recommend. read more

I brought three hungry college guys with me to eat deep dish, and we couldn't finish two small deep dish pizzas. We ordered two appetizers, two house salads, and two small pizzas. We had "The Best" Tomato Bruschetta," which was fresh and had mozzarella and balsamic vinegar, but we had to taste before we saw because it was drowning in diced tomatoes (picture proof below), but it was still pretty good. The other guys had the garlic cheese bread, which I didn't have the chance to try but they enjoyed it. Surprisingly, the house salad was delicious and had yummy parmesan flakes on it. Before going on - deep dish is not comparable to NY style pizza. It's comparing apples to oranges. Deep dish is more like a cheese and tomato pie than a flatbread. It doesn't taste like traditional pizza at all. Then, came the deep dish. You have to wait at least 30-45 minutes for deep dish to cook. Doesn't matter what size you order. We had a plain cheese and "meat and more meat" pies. The cheese was nice in-between bites of the salty meat pizza. I had a slice of each, and I think it was ok. The crust was meh. It tasted a bit underdone. If the crust was better, then I would have enjoyed it even more. The meat one was really salty, and I wish we had ordered sausage and bell peppers on our pizza instead (to balance it out). You really have to be craving deep dish to devour it all. read more

Maybe Giordano's used to be something, but I feel like I way overpaid for a frozen pizza. The ingredients were decent, but the crust was very obviously pulled out of the freezer. It was brown and crumbled like a cracker. Could be that's how it's supposed to be, but I prefer a crust from a freshly made dough. So many other places doing pizza so much better. Its about 15 min from chicago airport. Plenty parking. Large dining area. Now, if u love pizza ..a Chicago deep dish is an insane display of YUMM in a Pie. ..about 2in deep of gooey, melted cheese and succulent red sauce that'll make you pause in complete happiness as soon as you take your first bite. I mean, im from California and there is NOTHING like this out West. In fact, tje closest we can get is 'Blue Line Pizza' and their deep dish is no where near what Giordanos does. We also ordered the Lasagna ..which was excellent. It was not like any other lasagna i ever had in the west coast either. GIORDANOS DID NOT USE ALOT OF MEAT INSIDE ...60% riccotta cheese and the rest was meat sauce and well ...cheese. but the plating size was perfect and the lasagna tasted damn good! I've never had their deep dish pizza before, let alone their pizza. They weren't that crowded when we walked in then it quickly got very crowded. Our server Ashley was FANTASTIC!!! My daughter just got a waitressing job, so Ashley was a great example for her right before she starts. I subtracted one star bcuz everything took so long to get to us, I don't blame our server, I blame the lack of coverage bcuz she had to take other tables. Amazing appetizer: Bruschetta I wish I had ordered nothing else, but I did: A personal pizza with sausage, ground beef, green olives, onions. Each topping cost extra$. 6" Pizza arrived poorly cut into 4 sections. Sent it back to cut again with more determination. This was a preview of An Issue: Pizza was 90% bread and 3" thick making cutting, and even more so, eating, an unexpected chore. Management was summoned and explained that It was physically impossible to make a "6 inch Chicago pizza with 4 toppings and fit them to any reasonable degree into the pie. Why was it on the menu? Only Giordano Corporate Wonks know the answer. Perhaps they can go back to the drawing board and simply offer only one topping "6 pies?Rather than wait ANOTHER 45 minutes to sample what may have been a more successful effort, I cancelled the order. We first ordered a few nights ago delivery to our hotel and just had a regular deep dish with sauce and cheese, was delicious. We're visiting from NY and it's hard to compare the 2 pizza styles, but we definitely enjoyed it. We then went to the restaurant and was so happy we did. Have to try the deep dish pizza when you visit Chicago, right? Well, that's exactly what I did with a group of peeps visiting the windy city. I was in Oak Brook for a leadership training for a few days. On the last day of the training, a Chicago local in our group kindly offered to take the 4 of us out-of-towners to dinner. Where to go? The decision wasn't too hard to make as none of us had the deep dish pizza before. The local person quickly suggested Giordano's b/c it apparently is a popular local pizza place in the burbs? We came on the Saturday night. The restaurant was pretty busy when we arrived. I heard you have to have a reservation of a party of 8 or you wouldn't be able to get a table, seriously? Anyways, the 5 of us managed to get a table b/c we made reservation early. Our Chicago local guide warned us about the wait to get food which is about 45 minutes. The restaurant listed the wait time on their menu also b/c that's how long for them to make these deep dish pizzas. The Chicago local also warned us about the size of these pizzas. They are super thick and heavy fully loaded with cheese and tons of other ingredients! We settled on two medium pizzas of the Chicago classic and tropic delight. After getting our drinks and an appetizer to share, we chatted away while waiting for our food. Exactly 45 minutes later, there was still no food. I started to get hungry and impatient so I asked our server when the pizzas would be ready. Another 20 minutes later, we finally got our deep dish pizzas! The Chicago classic came with pepperoni, mushroom, green peppers and onions. The tropic delight came with pineapple and Canadian bacon. Boy they weren't lying about the pizzas being thick and chunky! I've never seen pizzas like that in the past, only thick and chunky peeps. The pizzas probably weigh more than me. The crust is about 3-4 inches and they were stuffed with tons and tons cheese and tomato sauce inside. I felt I was eating a cake not a pizza. I was able to eat 2 and a half slices then I became super full. I have to say these deep dish pizzas were pretty delicious. I liked both the Chicago classic and the tropic delight. Great flavor! The cheese was a bit much though b/c there were chunks and chunks of cheese inside the pizza. When I was in NYC, I could eat one medium NY style pizza by myself b/c it is so thin. But for the deep dish, the 5 of us shared 2 medium ones and we still had plenty leftovers! Now I've had both Chicago style and NY style pizza, I can finally compare the two and pick a winner. **Clear throat** Final verdict: Sorry Chicago peeps, your pizza is great and all but my favorite pizza is still NY style!! Please don't throw your pizzas at me, too much cheese! ***Update: Ok fine, there is a difference between deep dish and stuffed. But I'd argue stuffed is a subset of deep dish as a new form.
