When we first dug up our roots and moved to California, we found ourselves in a pizza wasteland. Okay, that's a bit of an exaggeration as there are certainly plenty of pizza places, but they commonly are of the California cuisine ilk, with toppings such as arugula or pine nuts. There was one local establishment that purports to sell Chicago style deep dish, but their offerings were (and continue to be appalling). They had something called the Joliet Jake which is proudly made with 4 types of mushrooms. Really? I've seen the Blues Brothers dozens of times and that's not what Joliet Jake would eat. Well, things have improved around us, and there are a couple quite admirable places nearby, but nothing can hold a candle to authentic Giordano's. On a recent visit to the area, we walked into this place barely an hour after our plane landed and walked out with a freshly baked Giordano's Special. A few minutes later we were at our family's home and enjoying this fine creation. Thick gooey mozzarella stuffed generously with peppers, onions, sausage, and mushrooms. The vegetables were thickly cut which allowed them to keep some crispness despite the long cooking time. The crust was golden brown with just the right balance sweetness and saltiness. It's exactly as I had remembered from my younger years, and after two years away it was wonderful. Alas, we've now left Chicago. I don't know when we'll be back, and we'll have to settle for our local fare. I know that Giordano's will ship their pizzas, but as much as I'd love to eat this at least once a month, the cost is just a little too steep to make it a habit. read more

Usually I eat at one of the Giordano's downtown, but my family and I stayed out here in Lombard. The location is right between Oakbrook Terrace and Lombard. The Yelp map for this Giordano's shows that this place is located by Salt Creek, this is incorrect, so if you visit here you will not be able to check-in unless you drive up the block about 2 miles. We stopped here this past Friday night and it was very crowded, so there was no place to park, luckily it was after business hours, so we parked behind in the business complex without any issues. This location offers free Valet parking. Anybody who has ever eaten at a Giordano's knows that it takes at least 1 hour to bake a deep dish, so I always preorder ahead of time. Our server was Melissa; she was sarcastic, very attentive and totally rocked. Even though we ordered ahead, it still took about 25 minutes for our food, so our spinach and cheese pie must have been made late. Nevertheless, once we got it was delicious and like I said, Melissa took good care of us. This is a beautiful location; they have a really nice upstairs section as well and outside a patio section. I recommend this place. I recommend this location; just make sure to order ahead of time. The reason why I took off one star is because our pizza was ordered ahead of time as I previous mentioned, after arriving an hour after placing our order, the pie should have been ready. A visit to another Chicago classic on my trip. They have excellent deep dish pizza. Maybe not downtown Unos or Duos good, but mighty fine. We had the Chicago Classic without onions. They have good cheesy bread and salad, but I am not 19 anymore and knew that the pizza would be more than enough. It is great seeing them serve this where you can see that delicious melted mozzarella. It was fabtastic, that perfect mix of tomato, chhese, meat, and veggie. I am still a pretty big eater. I had thee slices and almost had to be rolled out of there. The deep dish can take a while, about 45 minutes. Service is sometimes slow, although excellent today. The wine list is not very good. This review is NOT about the deep dish pizza, I have nothing to say about that because I didn't eat any of it unfortunately. My friends and I were a group of 10 and the wait said about 45 minutes which we eventually waited out and got a great table. The waitress was super sweet and easy going about how our table wanted to share, which we did try our best to make it easy for her. The restaurant has a great Italian American vibe to it which was nice because it's not really a fancy place, but more of a family style place. I got a plate of appetizers and everything on it was divine! I'd get it again and again because frankly it was affordable and super delicious, plus the deep dish pizza looked way too intimidating for me to eat. It comes with cheese bread, beautifully toasted and seasoned. The mozzarella triangles were crunchy and very warm with lots of cheese! I love Giordano's stuffed pizza but did not feel good about this locations service, or lack there of. We walked in to find two parties waiting and assumed they were waiting on a pick up order because the place was near empty so they couldn't be waiting on seating, no way. There was no one at the front area, no employees at the bar, we didn't see anyone except maybe a busboy. I finally asked the one lady waiting and she said yes they were waiting for a table and that she had already talked to someone and had still not been seated. I said "wow the place is practically empty, this is crazy" and she was visibly annoyed as well. At this point I turned around and asked the family behind me if they were too waiting for a table and they said yes but they didn't engage and I'm going to guess it's because they looked at me like a Karen lol. At that point a girl had walked up and seated the original woman I had asked but that's when I looked over at my husband and said I don't feel good about this I'm too hungry to sit down and then wait for far too long for service, so we left but didn't want to. I love this location. It's clean and friendly service. Came her for lunch on my wedding weekend with out of town guests and they loved it. Surprisingly they also have really fresh salads. So if you want to eat a bit healthier, you can try one of those. We love the deep dish with fresh garlic and veggies especially spinach and mushrooms. You can adjust the cheese and get easy cheese, which makes it a little lighter. These days they are trying out new items for their menu. I really liked the artichoke fritters. Atmosphere - 5 STARS! You walk in and we were met with a smiling host and he even told a funny joke that got me and my wife to laugh and we knew right then this may be our kind of place. Looking back, rather brave of him to tell a joke because it could have been awkward if it was funny lol. The place was also clean and neat. Service - 5 STARS! Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable of the menu, because when you have first timers, it's food friendly to offer recommendations and suggestions! Our glasses were filled on time and the suggestions for an appetizer were all great! Now the moment we ALL been waiting for......THE FOOD!!!! Food - 4.5 STARS! Now let me explain, the appetizer (Cheesy Bread, Ceaser Salad and Parmesan Garlic Fries) we're delicious. I was at 5 stars if I kept it to the appetizers. The best pizza in Chicago, hands down! I always love my experience at Giordano's. The atmosphere is inviting and the staff members are pleasant and accommodating. There were six in our party. It was a Saturday evening. We were seated immediately and the waiter greeted us within 3 minutes of us sitting down. He quickly took our orders and the 45 minute wait for our pizza began. The time seemed to quickly pass by. It seemed we were eating in no time. Everything tasted great! The only complaint I would share was with the women's bathroom. Upon washing my hands, there were no towels to wipe my hands with. There were only air dryers that statistics show disperse more germs and bacteria in the air than paper towel. We went to pick it up because we were 1.5 miles away and did not want to pay the $4.00 DELIVERY Charge! My I looked at my back account online and realized they OVERCHARGED me $2.00. When I called to question the overcharge Tiffany the "manager" said that it is the middle of dinner rush and 8pm and she will check and call back in two day! It may have been a tip, I told her no I picked it up, she replied A LOT of people tip when they pick up...REALLY, well I did not. When I questioned why it would take her two day to find a computerized receipt. She said she had to "find" the receipt seeing as it was not todays transaction unless I wanted a called back at 11pm tonight! She did not work until the pm tomorrow so she will call me back in two days. I told her this was unacceptable and she needs to call me back tomorrow with an answer, she said ok. After I hung up I thought about it. They STOLE $2 from me. If they do this to people every day that's a lot of money to steal. (and not report to on their taxes.) I talked to my husband and he agreed. I called the bank and disputed the charge. I called back Tiffany and she acted all bubbly and said "I told you I would call you right back" what a lie! (She probable had a customer standing there). I told her that since she did not have the time to fix her OVERCHARGE that I took matter into my own hands and called my bank and disputed the charge. She politely said oh, ok. I am a Chicagoan and ever since Giordano's went BANKRUPT year ago they have never been the same. Order arrived 2 minutes early, exactly what we ordered, it was a no-contact drop off, and the entire order was encased in a clear plastic bag. I felt safe eating it, it was still hot. I ordered carryout. I had a long wait and then when I was told my order was ready I was handed 1 of 4 ordered items. They took care of it quickly after that but after all the attention they poured on me while I was waiting ("just a bit longer... we're checking on your order.... ") it seemed odd that they forgot what I'd ordered. Felt disingenuous at that point. I ordered the veggie specialty pizza with sausage added. They said I couldn't do that so I ordered each of the ingredients on a make your own and got what I'd asked for the hard way. Would be nice if they could just offer to do that with an up-charge to take the hassle off of me, the customer. I'm not a fan of Chicago pizza but this was the best I'd had. Still not a huge fan but my opinion has improved a bit. So the food is worth it. My wife had a pasta dish which she enjoyed too. Sorry, not my cup of tea or piece of pizza. Sounds like a local delicate for the visitors. My sister in law has a guide book with this brand listed. And was surprised I never had this deep dish pizza before. The salad and Calzone were fine and pretty much average. The long waited deep dish pizza was pretty thicky and loaded. It was good but we were not able finish half of it. The part I didn't like was the services. The waitress looked like she didn't want to be there. The table was sticky. Today, my girlfriend & I stopped in to this location for the 2nd time in 4 years. The last time we stopped by was for dinner. we left without eating because the waiter never put in our order. We waited for 30-45 minutes until the waiter admitted that he forgot to put in for our pizza. We decided to give them another try since it had been so long. The restaurant was clean. Staff seemed friendly. However, while placing our order, I was told that they don't put Italian beef on their pizza. The waitress said, "I know other stores do but we don't." I asked if they had Italian beef to which the waitress says they do but they won't put it on a pizza. How the hell do you tell a customer that you just refuse to put a topping on a pizza!? I used to work in restaurants & when I was in a situation like this, I would at least ask a manager if we could make it happen. But to shut it down like that was not good. The food. The cheese curds were just okay. The boneless wings were also just okay (the ranch dressing was watery) & the pizza was (as you already guessed) okay. While the food is pretty consistent at Giordano's this location's delivery service is poor. They give a 10 minute delivery timeframe. I've ordered from there 3 times - the first two were 10 minutes past the delivery window and this third 30 minutes late. The food ends up being cold. The pizza unfortunately left me unimpressed. Crust was rock hard on deep dish & didn't have extra sauce as I requested. I just can't get behind all the hype. I went with a large group of people from work while we were in town for business. It took forever, but finally pizza came. If you like super duper rich food, then this place is for you. I don't think I've ever complained about piles of cheese and super thick pizza before, but it was all way too much for me.
