Ehh it's not the best cheesesteak I've had in SD but it isn't terrible. I shared a regular cheesesteak with my boyfriend and it did the job. We ordered some fries on the side but they felt undercooked. They seem to have a lot of options on their menu for breakfast and lunch. If you live in the area you would probably frequent the place a lot just for the convenience. I personally wouldn't make the drive here for the cheesesteaks though. read more

This place is old school in the best way possible! Eating here is like being transported to Philly--I went once 4 years ago so I'm obviously an expert! The food was great. We split the cheesesteak with whiz. The guy helping us was really kind and knowledgeable. We wanted to make a substitution and he told us it would be less expensive to order a different sandwich that had all the substitutions on it. We also split the garlic fries. They were good. This is a solid spot when your are craving a cheesesteak! They have lots of options so you can go as traditional as you want or spice it up! read more

Wow, Went here for the first time, little little dive of a place but the cheesesteak is so good. I got to cheesecake with The Onion. They have other ones with mushroom or peppers. But I just gotta plan cheesesteak without onions. Delicious one of the better ones i'd had so glad I found this place I will be back. One of the best cheesesteaks in San Diego. All the food here is high quality from the bread, to the meat, and the sides. They offer a lot of variations of this awesome sandwich, and everything is delicious. This is the only spot we come to when we are craving a good cheesesteak. They also offer Tasty Kakes which every Cheesesteak place should have. Highly recommend the food here. The spot itself is a little small but it's never been crowded when we come and they offer a few tables both inside and outside. read more

I was driving on a street I've driven on several times when I noticed this little hidden gem. Surprised I never saw it before! I ordered a "mush steak" which had mushrooms, steak, and white American cheese (I opted no onions but that normally comes on this). As a side, I ordered the frings with ragin' Ryan sauce. Mush steak: 5/5 - so good! The meat was flavorful and the bread was soft. I would definitely come back for this! I actually only ate half and that, with half the order of my side, made me full. I ended up eating the other half 3 days later and it was just as good when I heated it up! Frings w ragin Ryan sauce: 2.5/5 - onion rings were better than the fries but still not the greatest. Maybe it would have tasted better if I ate it there and not to-go? I was definitely disappointed with this and not impressed with the "ragin" sauce that accompanied it either. However, I did love the cheesesteak so I'm definitely planning on coming back but will likely try some other side like the garlic fries. read more

I have been going to this great sandwich shop for over a decade. They never disappoint and the Philly cheesesteak is perfection. Soft pillowy bread with chicken or steak, grilled onions and cheese. So good! I am a mushroom steak and onion rings person but have tried most rings on the menu. For a treat add cheese wiz to your sandwich or try the Taylor Pork roll. read more

If you're from the east coast, you already know.... But if you're not you have to get over to Giorgino's to try the "egg roll sandwich" made with pork roll meat only to be found otherwise in the PA/NJ region. Was craving a Philly Cheesesteak sandwich therefore we went here. I did request for the cheese whiz on my sandwich while my hubz ordered the works. Our kiddo enjoyed his grilled cheese sandwich. I don't even know what to say about this. It was like $16 plus tax and tip for this. Called mushy greasy french fries with something on top that I assumed was chicken but certainly wasn't pesto. What a huge disappointment and a high cost. read more

Go-to for east coast style sandwiches. I'm partial to the taylor ham, but their cheesesteaks have a good reputation too. They also have the east coast goodies like tastykakes, day's sodas, etc. The restaurant has a nice, cozy, unassuming atmosphere. Bonus is they have great service to top it off. read more

went there today because I was really craving a Philly cheesesteak and walked in with just (1) hello the 10mins in there . and only 2 customers sitting at the bar . ready to order and two girls to take an order I think . frankly when it's slow it's shouldn't take 10 mins for an order . its frustrating and disrespectful. no love and service from the ladies. one is in training while the other is on her lunch break. sorry I won't interrupt. That was the best Philly cheesesteak I've had in California hands-down, and the staff and the owner was just amazing. They were fast and efficient and who knows. I may be looking to host an event here soon. I met other guests that are in my profession, and now we are looking to make lifelong Business transactions together. Encourage you to stop by and try them out if you haven't husband and I devoured that sub. We contemplated on getting fries on the side, but the Philly cheese steak was plenty. It's not often you come across a place that gives actual adult size meals for a good price. It's a very cozy location. read more

I did an online order. But I knew right away that this place was gonna be good. The minute I walked in I was greeted politely and they had my food ready to go when I got there. It was one of the best cheesesteaks I've ever had here in San Diego. I got the standard with green peppers and cheez whiz. It was to die for! The perfect amount of all ingredients. Great taste of home for any NY metro area ex-pats, especially from the garden state. Love the pork roll and cheesesteak sandwiches especially but all the food is very good. They also have tasty cakes ( when I was back east I didn't particularly like them but now the nostalgia gives them a better flavor!). My only real wish for them is to open early enough for a real pork roll egg & cheese on a roll breakfast, 10:00 is closer to my normal lunchtime! read more

I love this spot. I'm a Philly native and very picky about my cheesesteaks. But Giorgino's is my favorite spot in San Diego for one, delicious. The menu has everything too, we even got pancakes for my kids. Make sure you pick up some Herr's chips and kandykakes while you're there. My first cheesesteak comes from Giorgino's and it is truly delicious! The warm hoagie roll, melted cheese, and sautéed mushrooms together were just perfect! I've been meaning to try other toppings but The Works has been the go-to when I order and their top seller. I love taking the sandwiches to go and the sandwiches remain nice and warm when I get to my destination. Not much else to say but I'm definitely returning! read more

My friend lives a walking distance to this location and so we make it a regular stop when I visit on the weekends. I do love their hot and cold sandwiches and recently tried the fries with veggie topping due to not wanting meat that night. so with that said, I have tried a lot of the menu, and I have liked more things than I have disliked. For example, the pesto chicken was one of my top faves, and one of my bottom face with the buffalo all a matter of preference I'm sure also included at this location is tasty cakes and anybody who likes tasty cakes will appreciate that check in on Yelp and you will get a free drink read more

I have been lucky enough to have eaten a selection of the most amazing cheesesteak subs from Philadelphia and also the Boston area. For me. Giorgino's is the best. Super soft rolls. And I order the yummy meat un seasoned. White American cheese is delicious. And I get just mushrooms and add their chilli peppers. Epic. read more

Yoooo these cheesesteaks tho!! They do em well. Rolls are super soft and there's a good ratio of steak n cheese. I tried their pesto cheesesteak and it was amazing! There's tables inside so shouldn't have an issue if you want to eat your food there. We chose takeout and our food was ready within 30mins. Some parking outside. Def will be back :) read more

Soooooooo good!! I'm a loyal Steak N Fries customer, and I RAVE about their pizza steak all the time, so a friend of mine told me he needed to bring me to Giorgino's to try theirs. One day we met for lunch and I could see why he liked this place!! Their menu is more extensive than I expected! Small place but great vibes. Good customer service and the sandwich was delicious! Great portion as well. Not gonna lie, I still like Steak N Fries' pizza steak better, but I definitely want to come back and try some of their other menu items! I got "The Works" for $15+ and honestly wasn't worth it and wasn't seasoned (i.e. salt). It's practically a grilled cheese sandwich with a sprinkle of meat. The order of ingredients by the amount received in my sandwich: bread, cheese, grilled onions, steak, bell peppers, mushrooms. They up charge for ranch, if that tells anything. read more

Best Philly cheese steak in a San Diego hands down no questions asked. My favorite is the Mush Steak add hot peppers and cheese whiz. Phenomenal. Danni is the best steak cooker so do yourself a favor and make sure she's slinging the flat top before you go. Why does my review matter? I've been a Philly cheese steak aficionado my whole life, searching high and low for quality seasoned beef with cheese cooked on a flat top with a nice bun, and spicy peppers and sometimes cheese whiz. I was spoiled by Gaglione for decades, then they fell off completely and started selling garbage pre cooked minced meat with no flavor. I tried every other location in San Diego after the falling off but somehow missed Giorginos. My previous loss is my and your win. Go there you won't be disappointed. read more

Great establishment. I'm a creature of habit and always get the hot turkey and cheddar sub and garlic fries. The fries are bit soggy, but it's still delicious. I've dined in and also done takeout multiple times. I've never had issues with my orders. Service was always friendly and polite. They gave me a 20% off coupon so I'll be stopping by again soon and maybe try their popular cheesesteak. read more

This wonderful sandwich shop is conveniently located off the MLK freeway near Balboa Park. It features cheesesteaks and Taylor Pork Roll sandwiches, a New Jersey specialty. The staff is friendly and the food is great. This is a great place to stop at before a Padres game. I believe that they are closed on Wednesdays. read more

Giorgino's grand opened July 7, 2007 much to the delight of homesick East Coast transplants as well as locals looking for great food made to order.

Meet the Manager: Mario R.

Being half Italian and half Mexican, there are three things Mario knows well, family, food and hard work. Spending time with relatives from both sides of the family gave Mario the opportunity to learn about food from each of them. Being lucky enough to have traveled to Mexico as well as Argentina and soak in the culture, sights, smells and tastes has helped fuel Mario's love for food. After 9 years in retail management, Mario decided that the corporate world was no longer for him. So he bid the king of big box business farewell and began searching for a totally different work environment. Always passionate about cooking and the power food has to bring people together, Mario took on a job at Giorgino's. He worked with the owner, a New Jersey native, learning the ins and outs of the business. Soon after he started working there the owner decided to move back to New Jersey. Mario was able to obtain a loan from a family friend to purchase Giorgino's and has been running it since then...

I'm disabled also I have a disabled plate. They did have a disabled parking, but it's kind of limited. But there is street parking around shouldn't have too much problem. Depending on the time of day, it's a little place

Don't know how this place has so many good reviews because my experience there was not good. My coworker and I went here on our lunch break and I ordered the Buffalo and bleu cheese sandwich and asked for the bleu cheese on the side, and the lady told me she couldn't do that and if I wanted bleu cheese I would have to pay for a side of it for 75 cents so I opted out and figured ok I'll just take it on the sandwich. Next I get the sandwich and there is no buffalo sauce on it so I ask one of the employees for a side of Buffalo sauce and he says ok. I wait for literally 10 minutes and no buffalo sauce so I ask him again for the Buffalo sauce and he tells me he's working on it..So at this point I wait another 5 minutes and still no sauce so I decide to eat my sandwich and never go back to this place. On my way out the manager asked me how my experience was and I told her I asked her employee for a side of Buffalo sauce twice and he never brought it and she said ohhh it's 75 cents that's why. I said He told me he was bringing it too me and she just kept repeating oh that's 75 cents I said ok first of all I ordered a buffalo chicken sandwich it came with no buffalo that means you owe it to me and secondly how do you know I didn't want to pay for the side of Buffalo.?? She had no response.. I would not recommend this place to anyone and will be sure to tell everyone I know not to go here.! This sandwich was $10 and in my opinion over priced, for the same price you can get a sandwich and a side of garlic cheese fries at Gaglione Brothers and the food is much better than this place. read more

I ordered 2 sandwiches and my total was $17. And that was with the 5% discount, since I paid cash. Nothing wrong with the price if you're getting a premium sandwich. Thats a restaurant price, even though is not a restaurant, more like a fast food place. Based on the decor and the fact that you have to walk to the register to place your order. Well I assumed since it wasn't a restaurant but they charge like one, the quality must compensate and would be premium. Also I assumed that based on their reviews. I guess I either have very high standards or people don't know what good food is around here. My chimichurri sandwich was the worst steak sandwich I have ever had!! The chimichurri was essentially pesto, and the steak incredibly thin, almost like roast beef. And super dry!! The bread was cheap and soggy. Rather than a mini baguette which is crunchy on the outside. What should be used on thirst types of sandwiches. My girlfriends chicken sandwich was almost ground chicken, had more onions than chicken. Honestly, the steak sandwiches from the food court at the mall are better. At least they give you real steak, sliced grilled chicken, and fresh baguette bread. read more

Giorgino's is one of those classic little hole-in-the-wall spots that locals appreciate for its simplicity and consistency. Tucked away in the South Park/Golden Hill area, it offers a solid cheesesteak experience and super friendly service. It's not trying to be fancy--it's just doing what it does well. The cheesesteaks are definitely the standout here. They use an Almarosa roll, which is impressively fresh--soft, tender, and holds up beautifully with all the fillings. The bread alone makes a difference in every bite. Meats are cooked right, and the portioning feels generous without being over the top. As for the atmosphere, it's... fine. Nothing wrong with it, but also not the kind of place you'd linger. The space feels a bit rundown--functional more than inviting. It's the kind of place you stop in for a quick bite or grab your order to-go rather than hang around with a couple drinks. There's no frills, and frankly, it doesn't need to be. This sandwich shop has so much going for it. The ingredients are top-notch - the cheese is perfectly melted, the flavors are fantastic, and the meat is tender and well-seasoned. They really nail the balance of meat, veggies, and cheese in terms of taste. However, there's one glaring issue that's been a recurring problem lately: the meat-to-bread ratio. It's simply unacceptable. I've encountered multiple sandwiches where the meat is sparse, unevenly distributed, and sometimes even thinner than cheesecloth! If I was paying $8 I would be ok with this, but at nearly $16 with tax, it feels like a rip-off. For that kind of money, I expect a generously filled sandwich. It's a shame because I truly prefer supporting local businesses like this one over chains like Jersey Mike's. While Jersey Mike's might not be quite as flavorful, they at least provide a satisfying amount of ingredients for the price. If this trend of skimpy sandwiches continues, I'll unfortunately have to take my business elsewhere. I hope the owners address this issue, as I genuinely want to see this place succeed. read more

I had a cheesesteak remembering the driving up from DC to Philly on a road trip just for a cheesesteak actually at one of THE major cheesesteak places. Was this... did it measure-up? Yes! Who would have thought? It is simply the best cheesesteak I have had in years of what was turning out to be a hopeless endeavor of a quest to find a real cheesesteak outside of Philly. The price is right. I keep bringing my tuff to please foodie buddies and they go nutz over ever thing. I dare you go and try to find better any where except PA. I love the diner feel. It looks fresh. It IS fresh. And leaving you'll putting in an extra tip. (If you just ask for water they will give you a big tall glass for it and not some wimpy I'm drinking water because I'm cheep little styrofoam cup.) Have a beer with it too. This place has by far the best Cheesesteak you can get anywhere on the west coast. It is amazing to me that not only are the cheesesteaks great but everything I have eaten there is top quality, utterly delicious, and at an excellent price. You will almost not mind that there is no beer. I've been there about 4 times either for the cheesesteak or a pasta, both quite good. A bit too fawning to the Philly style to have those Tastycakes, which are crappy and who eats them anyway? In summary, nice joint in a good neighborhood, sure beats the "Big Top Pizza" that was there in the '80 and '90s. If you're in San Diego and craving a Philly cheesesteak, Giorgino's is the place to be! I had "The Works" cheesesteak with jalapeños and cheese whiz, and oh man, it was perfect. The steak was tender, the cheese whiz was gooey and cheesy in all the right ways, and the jalapeños gave it that perfect spicy kick. Plus, the roll was soft but held everything together! When they say "best cheesesteaks in town" they MEAN it! We were definitely not disappointed! I was very surprised at the size of the sandwich and the big basket of fries! I ate every bite, although I think half of the cheesesteak sandwich and 1 order of fries is enough to split between two people. If you love grease, you will love this place! My wife and I ordered from here twice and got food to go. They gave us a quick pick-up time so I know it didn't sit for long. Both times and both of our orders, the buns were just drenched in grease. I'm a big guy and I don't mind a little fattiness, but this place is ridiculous! I picked out the chicken and just ate the pizza which wasn't very good. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing, but this was one of the most popular picks online. I don't think I'll be back unfortunately. Parking was a headache, and for the price & quality, it wasn't worth it. Staff were pleasant but I did take-out so didn't engage with them much.
