We started with the whipped ricotta for our appetizer, and I have to say I was surprised at how quickly it arrived on our table. I thought it was to be heavy on my stomach, but it was the opposite: light, flaky and with the whipped ricotta, it had the perfect combo of sweet and savory. The indoor decor itself is very clean and organized, and I love how put together it all seems. Not crammed at all but surely loud. Got our main pasta courses within 15 minutes. My fish was still hot and you could see the heat. It tastes very fresh and with Parmesan sprinkled on top, and I love how the pasta basically melts in my mouth. Great portion sizes for the price and the quality is surely present! I ended up completing my entire plate, which is very rare. The pasta was so addictive in the best way and you get a great balance of sauce and Parmesan in each bite, no bland texture. We topped off the night with two scoops of gelato, pistachio and lemon. We found the interaction a little strange, so we ended up skipping the appetizers altogether and just ordered entrees. The bill payment process also could use some improvement. You tap your card to pay, and then it takes you to a screen where you have to enter your payment information. The senior citizens sitting next to us seemed confused and frustrated by the process, so I could definitely see this being challenging for some guests. Overall, not a bad experience, but there were a few things that could have been smoother.

It's an open kitchen and you can see all of the action. The energy felt great here. We ordered the cast iron focaccia and Tuna Tonnato. The Focaccia is probably the best I've ever had. It was light and airy and not what a traditional focaccia would taste like. The crust had a nice crisp to it. It was brushed with olive oil and finished with salt. Just perfect and highly recommend. It came with a tomato chili sauce, which tasted good, but was not needed for this. We ordered the tuna to pair with the bread and it was a great combo. I ended up ordering the hangar steak and it was good. Full of flavor and the chimichurri sauce was a nice touch. Though, I would have like the taste of the beef to come out more. The marinade overpowered the meat IMO. My wife got the Rigatoni alla Gricia. I like the pasta and it was bouncy, but the dish was too salty though. We ended the night with the basque cheesecake and I have to say that it wasn't my favorite. The texture seemed off. Normally basque cheesecake is smooth and creamy, but this was a little lumpy like when you over cook eggs in a dessert. Overall, the service was great and the vibes of the restaurant was on point. It was a decent crowd for a 3pm lunch. Started with the Alphonsino crudi -- really nice. Have to admit, love me some kin medai -- and have not had it with eggplant/basil/chili before. Was a great start. Moved on to the grilled octopus -- was one of the dual highlights of the meal. Cooked perfectly -- so tender -- great smoked wood flavor -- crispy potatoes, was really nice. I did miss the classic olives and felt like there could have been something with a bit more acid in there (there were some pickled onions, but they were few and far between), but the octopus was so well executed it didn't matter. Had the Risotto di funghi - really a highlight. I am a self-proclaimed mushroom risotto savant and have perfected it at home. I am very particular about it, and usually don't order it at restaurants. My daughters love to test -- and have yet to say any has ever been "better than Dad's". This may have given me a run for my money. It was so well executed -- and the magic was in whatever stock was carefully concocted and used. It was so rich, and pure, and umami-ish. Was really a great combination of savory and elegant. I enjoyed every spoonful. I added the escarole as a side -- was a bit concerned there would be too much acidity with the white sardines -- but it actually went well and was quite tasty. I also have call out the excellent wine-by-the-glass list. This is really what brought me in (aside from the convenient location to my hotel at the JWM). I went all Italian -- started with Etna Bianco which is such an underrated wine (and grape, carricante is a favorite) from Sicily that is just all acid and mineral, loved it. Shifted over to a Verdicchio Superiore -- have not had it before -- and loved it. Maybe the roundest verdicchio I've had, quite nice. Transitioned to the Etna Rosso with the risotto, light, fruity, high acid -- right in my wheelhouse. Overall, great Sunday afternoon meal. One note -- you are paying Central Park prices for sure -- I would say that everything is 25% marked up as a result -- but you are getting high quality ingredients, excellent execution, great selection/menu, and wonderful service.

It consisted of red wine braised octopus and bone marrow. My friend ordered the Marubini ($49), which is a ricotta filled ravioli, ramp, pea, and crispy lamb. I was able to try a piece and it also tasted great. However, looking at his plate, for the number of ravioli you get for the price you're paying would have me reconsider ordering this. It was also my friend's birthday, which I mentioned on the reservation, so they brought out a complementary dessert for him. Don't remember which one on the menu it is, but it was delicious. Service overall was fantastic. It is essentially what you expect from a Michelin Star restaurant, although they are now lacking them now. Hopefully they'll get them back in the future.

The Rigatoni with vodka sauce and stracciatella was fantastic -- creamy, rich and comforting without feeling overly heavy. The stracciatella on top made it even better. The Garganelli with roasted wild mushrooms, arugula pesto, garlic and pecorino was just as delicious, with a wonderful earthy flavor from the mushrooms and plenty of depth. What I loved most was that every dish tasted distinct, so sharing everything was a great way to experience the menu. From the whipped ricotta to both pastas, there really wasn't a dish we didn't enjoy. Overall, an excellent meal from start to finish. The food was fresh, flavorful and genuinely memorable. Esp since we are not a big group. But it is not as off putting when an extra charge is added to help pay for employee benefits. This is at least for service charge.
