A nice meal out with a recommendation for King crab legs brought us to the Glacier Brewhouse. The reviews I read here are right about the food, the service, the drinks. The food menu has something for nearly everyone. We were lucky with our seating inasmuch that POS kiosk brought our server by often so it was convenient to catch her attention. The jalapeño cornbread starter was unexpectedly tasty. The Glacier Brewhouse's brewery produces a nice assortment of styles, so I'm thinking I need to return this fall with a designated driver and sample more than the two I had with this meal. Lastly, ask for the dessert menu if you have any room left. It makes for a great finish. read more

The Glacier Brewhouse is ALWAYS packed. For a good reason. Make your reservation! Their food is so FRESH and Local and quintessentially Alaskan. Have any number of locally sourced seafood in season, flame grilled steaks cooked perfectly on their wood fired grill, or truly unique beers on tap. If you have people coming in from out of town and want to give them a taste of Alaska THIS is where you go. As great as the entrees are, I always save room for dessert here. I can't lie, I'm tanking this place. It has reviews that are way, way too high for what is contained within. Not only that... they cater to the cruise ship arrivals and their prices *seriously* reflect it. I genuinely wasn't a huge fan of their beer. I loved my pizza/flatbread, but neither compare to the other breweries in town that for some reason aren't getting the yelpy love that this place gets. Was starving after spending half a day at the Anchorage Museum. Hubby spotted this place and in we went. Man-at 1pm on a Sunday, this place was busy! It is a huge place and things were bustling. Lots of in-house brews ( we got a Hefeweizen and raspberry wheat-liked those) and a blueberry crush ( refreshing but more ice than drink) Had sorts of stuff to eat- we got a bowl of seafood chowder and an appetizer of ale fondue as well. And an order of rosemary potato bread ( yes, we love our carbs). The chowder was really good. Nice and thick with chunks of salmon. The ale fondue was a small bowl of cheese beer dip and pieces of soft beer pretzels. We shared the fondue and soup but since there were still cheese dip and soup left, we ordered the rosemary potato bread. Nice crust outside and super soft inside. It came with a tiny scoop of chive butter and fig spread. I highly recommend this. In fact I recommend all 3 dishes we got. The staff was super friendly and nice considering how busy it was. We got a reservation half an hour ahead and it wasn't that busy. We got seated down and my brother and dad got the seared ahi. And I got the peppercorn crusted steak. They were both super good and well prepared. The mash potatoes on the steak was just so good and with the crispy onion rings just had an amazing crunch to it. We were next to a fireplace and it felt like a modern vibe to it with the lights and a the 1 sport tv. I'd love to come back here in the future. read more

I came down here with a friend for lunch. It has been some time since I dined here last and the meal was one of the best we've had recently. Glacier Brewhouse is a downtown institution in Anchorage located on 5th Ave. between G and H St. The dining area hasn't changed. It still has that comfortable lounge atmosphere with the bar area running along the wall adjacent to the entrance. We were greeted by the host at the entrance and seated at a window booth. Our server was very friendly and quickly served our drinks before giving us a few minutes to decide on what to order. We decided to start with an appetizer of Garlic Prawns (jumbo Pacific white prawns with garlic, artichoke hearts, tomato, and potato rosemary bread). The addition of garlic provided a nice complement to the artichoke hearts and the potato rosemary bread resembled giant croutons but with a lot more flavor. For the entrees, I ordered the Alaska Alder Grilled Salmon (lemon garlic butter, grilled alder potatoes, asparagus, baby tomatoes, and avocado lime verde). The filet of salmon was grilled perfectly with all of the moist flavor retained and the skin perfectly crisp and seasoned on the bottom. The baby tomatoes and alder potatoes were delicious, punctuated with the flavor of the avocado lime verde as well as a great dipping sauce for the salmon. My friend ordered the Alaska Seafood Scramble off the Brunch menu (three eggs with house smoked salmon, shrimp, Alaska crab, lemon hollandaise sauce and chives served over buttermilk biscuits). She enjoyed this tremendously and finished off the entire plate, taking her time to enjoy the versatile mix of ingredients. For dessert, we tried the World Famous Bread Pudding (vanilla custard, apples, currants, and caramelized pecans with Yukon Jack sauce). This was rich and melt in your mouth good with a cinnamon flavor that reminds one of fresh-baked cinnamon rolls out of the oven. Some other noteworthy items on the menu include the Fettuccini Jambalaya (pan seared chicken, Andouille sausage, and spicy Mamou sauce), the Grilled Ribeye Sandwich (on a Dutch crunch roll with blue cheese, grilled red onions, tomatoes, and balsamic arugula), the Alaska Snow Crab Stuffed Roasted Cod (braised spinach, artichoke hearts, and parmesan with garlic mashed potatoes and chive beurre blanc....this one sounds amazing!), and the Strawberry Scallop Grain Bowl (kale, chevre cheese, quinoa, pumpkin seeds, candied pecans, craisins, and balsamic dressing). Our bill came up to a total of $82 but the quality of every dish was well worth it. I will definitely come back in future visits but most likely after pay day. read more

My wife and I had the worst experience today at this establishment. The service extremely poor and it wasn't very crowded. Our sever was preoccupied with everything else but us. They put us in the back corner and forgot about us. We were there a full hour and our ordered appetizers still had not shown up. Then they tried to serve everything all at once and it was all cold and had been sitting. Been eating here for 25 years and even had my Military Retirement Dinner at Orso' and this by far the was the worse. So we got up to leave... On top of that, had the nerve to ask if we were going to pay for the food we never got!! It was humiliating and seemed purposeful. I work downtown and have been for 11 years and never been treated so poorly in an establishment. Truly disappointing experience today. With all that they gave us attitude on the way out. The pretzels and cheese dip were yummy. The Thai pizza was very good. I've worked in restaurant biz in the past. If you are going to have an open kitchen you need to have someone dedicated to keeping it clean when open. When it came to getting the check, our server was nowhere to be found. I asked another server if they could get us the bill (he said no, your server will take care of that). My wife had an equally unimpressive meal. On the menu, there was a one pound serving of King Crab legs for $129.95. HaHaHa!!!! Although the restaurant is very popular with tourists, there is a good reason for their popularity. The food was some of the best we had on our three week trip. Their fish and chips are delicious, but those are available many different places. What I would recommend here, as it is not readily available, is their Alderwood grilled sockeye salmon. It should not be confused with the "Alderwood salmon grill" excursions. Those are OK, but this place uses sockeye salmon and it is beyond delicious. Their smoked Salmon dip is really good too as is their rosemary, potato bread. And their chocolate peanut butter pie was perfect as a "to go" item. We were full from our dinner but enjoyed it later in the evening and the next night. We hit this place a couple of times over our three weeks throughout our Alaskan travels and recommend them without hesitation. Katie was our server on the last time and did a great job. On a family visit to Anchorage, we were downtown when we chose to eat at Glacier Brewhouse. I was in the mood for some good Alaskan beer and the rest of the family was just hungry. Trusting my choice, we made a reservation and enjoyed our evening in a great atmosphere full of excitement and buzz. We were concerned when we first entered about what the level of service was going to be as the host was less then congenial. Our concerns faded quickly as we were quickly greeted by our server Angelina. I started my night off with a flight: Key Lime Wheat (3.75), Hefeweizen (3.0), Raspberry Wheat (3.5), Oatmeal Stout (3.5). (Ratings are how I rated on Untapped) For appetizers, we ordered Alaskan Nachos and Fried Calamari with Jalapeno Chips. The Alaskan nachos were homemade Yukon potato chips with bar cheese, tomatoes, bacon, chipotle sour cream, and blue cheese crumbles. The flavors all blended together well, and the bar cheese was a thick, flavorful spread. When you had all the components together, it was a delicious, textured bite. It would have been much better if the toppings were not so sparse. Nothing is worse then getting to the end of your nachos and not having anything left, but in this situation, we didn't make it past part of the top layer before we were eating potato chips; they were good but boy we wanted toppings. What saved the day and would make me come back was the Calamari, or as the menu title is "Simply the Best Calamari" Imagine buttermilk battered, thick strips of Calamari with a jalapeño-lime aioli, with jalapeño chips mixed in the plate. It was the best Calamari I have had in a long time, cooked perfectly and the aioli... oh the aioli. Let's be real, that word has been abused by many restaurants adding something to mayo and calling it an aioli. As I am writing this review my mouth is watering remembering the flavor combinations (I just made a reservation for tonight). Unfortunately, our night came to an abrupt end as we realized that our parking meter expired 30 minutes prior, so we never made it to the main course. We did leave full and satisfied. We will be back (tonight). Who knows, maybe this review will be upgraded to a 5... wait and see. Smoked salmon appetizer is one of the most delicious things I've ever eaten, served with grilled sourdough bread and an unusual choice of beverage for a brewery- sparkling cava Don't worry their beers are good too! We came here twice - once of lunch and once for a snack. In ever packed and popular Anchorage, you can still get a table without reservations here (with a short wait while enjoying beer). This place was packed, but surprisingly we were able to find a seat in the bar area which is open seating first come first serve. It took about 5-10 minutes for a server to come up to us and take our order. The menu was huge and the prices weren't as shocking as I had thought they would be, yet again I live in Hawaii so the prices were very comparable to being home.) We ended up getting the Blackberry IPA which was amazing! It was not too hoppy and didn't have too much of an overwhelming fruity flavor, it had the perfect balance of hops and blackberries. We ordered a few appetizers and the chowder (definitely a must), along with two fish entrees for our meal. Everything was good, but the beer was the best. It had real Brie cheese in it, as evidenced by the Brie crust floating at the top. This was definitely our favorite part of the meal and the service was lightning quick, probably because we were in there close to closing time. The rotisserie chicken was pretty good as well, half dark meat which I don't care for but it was half a chicken nonetheless. I ended up dipping the chicken in the cheese which was delish. First, thank you fellow Yelpers for the reviews. This place was hands down the best dining experience in Anchorage. Yeah, the place is super busy most every day. Tip: make a reservation direct or on Opentable. We were seated right away. Both nights, service was quick, informative and friendly, providing guidance on menu items and their personal favorites. We started off at the bar to sample a couple of their brews, as we arrived early for our 7:30pm reservation. Friendly and knowledgeable bar staff as well as very attentive (even in the chaotic atmosphere, which just adds to the charm of the place). Our favorites were the Oatmeal Stout and the Imperial Blond. Our first dinner, we started off with the seafood chowder...off the hook, best chowder we've, including our former favorite Captain Parkers on Cape Code. I could of just ordered another bowl...that delicious! For my dinner,they had a special of white salmon, very rare. I had to try it, glad I did. Even my wife, who is not a salmon fan (the salmon we get locally can be very strong and off putting for her) really liked the mild flavor and flaky texture. My wife had the amber ale-battered cod fish and chips. Very tasty and a big meal (I had to finish!). One of the nicer Anchorage breweries, more of a sit down restaurant in terms of style and menu. For beer I got the IPA and the imperial blonde, and for food me and my friends split the seafood tower, which was very good, but definitely needs to be split due to the size and the cost. I didn't get an entrée, and while a lot of items are on the higher end price wise, but all looked to be good. The beers were also very good, I would've definitely tried more if we stayed longer. It's right in the heart of downtown, so parking might be a little hard depending when you go. But still very much worth checking out if you're in town. read more

We came late night just before 10pm. The place was packed! We were originally going to turn away but was able to sit down to the right of the bar area. A nice server settled us down. So we got in! My friend sets her mind on the king crab last as this is our last chance of "fine dining" before leaving Alaska. So we did. We also ordered the Alaska Snow Crab Stuffed Roasted Cod. HANDS-DOWN the BEST meal I had in Anchorage! Everything here was delicious--the beer, the apps, the meals, the DESSERT! Ahhh I can't stop thinking about it. We had literally just hopped off the plane and were famished. So we started with the pretzels and pub cheese. The pretzels were soft with just a bit of a buttery crisp, and the cheese was so good we saved the remainder for our fries once we'd wolfed down the pretzels. I'm not a beer connoisseur, but I adored every taste in my flight. The standout for me was the raspberry ale. I love a good fruit beer and this one was refreshing without being too sweet. I also love a good stout, and the oatmeal stout delivered. Next up, my friend got a fried chicken sandwich and I went for the Fish and Chips. Fried chicken can get dry, but my friend told me the patty was crispy on the outside, deliciously moist on the inside. The fries were nothing special, but came out hot and crisp which is really all you can ask for. And OH MY GOD the FISH AND CHIPS was the BEST I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. And this is saying a lot, considering I grew up in New England. For starters, it comes with a cup of chowder, which was excellent, and a side slaw that was the perfect palate cleanser for the dense meal. The fried fish was perfect. PERFECT. It was fresh, flavorful, and the breading was perfectly seasoned and amazingly crispy. My only complaint with my dish was that the fish was served on top of the fries, so mine were a bit soft and saturated with fish. Not a huge deal, but maybe ask them to plate them a bit off to the side. We ended up taking home two desserts (we were so full!) the Peanutbutter Pie and the Orange Creamsicle Cheesecake. They made for a great midnight snack while we enjoyed the long long summer day before turning in for the night. read more
