I'm new to beer, but the bartenders were awesome about educating me and giving me small samples to try. My salmon was super fresh and cooked to perfection. There are little shops nearby to explore. Downtown Anchoraagain looking for something new to try and settled on Glacier BrewHouse. Interesting spot in a shopping center. It was a Friday and the place was pretty busy. The host staff were less than enthusiastic but we stuck around for what we were told would be an hour wait. Ended up being a little less of a wait. Once we were seated our waiter was quick to come over and take drink requests and offer specials. I ordered an Amber house brew and the table also had water. For an app the had Seafood Chowder that she said was terrific. For our meal we all ordered the personal Mozzarella and tomato pizzas. The pizza came out in minimal time, the crust was seasoned and delicious. The cheese melted just right and toppings fresh. The pizza was delicious. This place could easily have been a 5 if not for the host staff, everyone else was beyond professional and eager to make the experience enjoyable. Will be back without a doubt! Update: something that I've learned about what makes a good restaurant... consistency. Everyone can get lucky or get it right every now and then or most of the time, but consistency, that's a whole different game. Glacier BrewHouse has this. I've now been here, Glacier BrewHouse a half dozen times, lunch, dinner, etc., and every time you get the same great service. The staff is always happy, greets you with a smile. The food is always fresh, tasty, and cooked to order. I've tried several items on the menu and each as good or better than the last. Visited 9/10/22 for dinner. We were quoted a 45 minute wait since we didn't have a reservation, or we could find a seat in the bar area. We waited a little over an hour before we were called for a table. We had the Seafood Fettuccine and Salmon. The salmon wasn't anything special. Broccolini was too thick so it was just a huge piece of raw vegetable on the plate. Seafood Fettuccine was underwhelming. The clam looked like the chef was trying to make clam jerky. Glacier Brewhouse was our first brewery in Anchorage. We walked in and were seated immediately at a booth. We happened to be there before the lunch rush. If you've ever been to CA, it's similar to a BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse. They have a large menu catering to all palettes and a lengthy beer and cocktail list. My friend and I decided to split the wild mushroom & arugula flatbread. She ordered a flight of beers and I had a Toronto cocktail. The service was great. The flatbread arrived shortly after the drinks and was really good. I was pleasantly surprised. Prices seem high here but that's because they don't charge tax on the bill. It's already included in the pricing. We had a great time snacking and drinking here. This place is great for large groups and the service is friendly. read more

This place was bookmarked when I was doing my research on where to eat in Alaska, and lo and behold, my husband had already been here before so he was happy to take me back here on a date. We started with the root beer and cream soda, had some chowder and calamari for apps, and ended with the stuffed cod and herb crusted halibut. Chowder was pretty delicious, especially after adding some tobasco, pepper, and lemon in it (don't judge us). Calamari was out of this world amazing. Oh my goodness...thick, fresh pieces of calamari, thin breading, perfectly crunchy, and the most amazing sauce. I almost didn't want to share with my husband LOL Stuffed cod ended up being pretty good, but I gotta say, that herb crusted halibut was just such a disappointment. I was expecting such good things. Even though I had read that some people did not enjoy it as much, a lot of others said it was the best ever so I was hoping for the best. Sadly, that was not the case. It was bitter for whatever reason, and I don't think the crust was doing it any favors. My husband ended up shaving off all the crust, dumping an entire lemon's worth of juice on it, and dousing it with tobasco and ate it lol. I felt so bad. Our waitress was so remarkable though. I didn't get her name, but I think it was Amber (?) H?? So the service was very good. The beer was very good. The steaks? Not so good. I've never had a ribeye burned on one end and rare on the other. I complained and they said it was medium. Yeah okay, I guess if we take the entire steak and average it all out. Whatever. I've had better steaks at Texas roadhouse which is just sad. It's a loud and lively place. The beer was good. The food was ok. We ordered the ale fondue and pretzels. The beer cheese was very good, the pretzels were a little soggy. Our food took a long time to come out and was room temp for all of us. The salmon, which should be some of the best in the world in Alaska, was just ok. It was bland. The green beans were also bland. The potatoes were good. It's also expensive considering the mediocrity. Stand outs were the double barrel aged Jim Beam Russian imperial stout and cask-aged ale. We went here to celebrate my birthday. Last time we were here was over five years ago; we only recently came back to the state and the area. It was busy for Monday and we made reservations. Food came quick and server was courteous and friendly. We got the appetizer tower, seared ahi tuna, brewHouse hamburger dinner, kids fettuccine, kid pizza and the the bread pudding for desserts. Highly recommended everything. Kids meal were huge, it came with a large side (they got fruits), refills on drinks, and a ice cream sundae. All of us enjoyed the appetizers; kids (three and five wait until they find out what it is late) especially like the calamari. Seared ahi tuna was cooked to perfection with plentiful of favors with a little kick. I didn't try the husband's burger but it looks delicious and was enormous as well. Sauce for bread pudding was tasty. And we had leftovers with the kids meal since they are small. We rarely drink and both had to drive home afterward but the drink menu seemed quite extensive. Fun place to eat! I am a visitor, however I could see how this place would be loved by the locals as well. Great bar section, big enough space for just about any occasion. It was casual, yet would be fun for a celebration, a date... it really had a feel that it would be suitable for just about any kind of event. I had the double dipped Chickens sandwich , and it was very good. My friends tried other things and we all agreed that they did a good job with taste, service, and the rustic ambiance was just perfect. I almost wished I could try out more of their menu items as everyone was just loving what they ordered. I finished my meal off with a pecan bread pudding. So good!!! Overall...Great times! read more

Here's the thing, GB is fine. It's got ok food (some top notch plates and some substandard items), the beer is like a mid-tier microbrew in the lower 48 and it's a really beautiful decor. Their signature dish is halibut which is frankly pretty gross (tried on two different occasions) and their jambalaya is amazingly good. I realize how weird that sentence is. My main complaint is they are always booked up. Like the dance club we all want to get into because there's always a line but when we do, oh, this is very mediocre. read more

Great ambiance and service. My wife and I loved the starters, with the calamari steaks being thick and tender, and the seafood chowder not skimping at all on the seafood. Our favorite main dish was the rockfish, which tasted fresh but salted a bit too much for our taste. We were really looking forward to the king crab, but it did not taste as fresh, with it being a bit dry. I'd probably pass on the crab if I ever visit another time. My husband was in town on business and I saw the great reviews here. Sadly I did not realize truly how popular this place is. I did not plan accordingly and we had to find other options when I got hangry during our wait the first night. After that I made reservations here for later in our stay. Now I know what all the hype was about. The place is super cozy and rustic. The cocktails were strong and my husband liked his beer. My husband had a fish special and I had the beef. Everything was so delicious. My beef was cooked perfectly and the reduction/sauce on top was just sweet enough. For dessert we saved room for the peanut butter pie. OMG. Drool. Rich... yes. Decadent... for sure. Worth it? Completely. We enjoyed our meal so much that we came back for drinks and dinner one more night of our stay. Solid food and a friendly staff. read more

I moved to Alaska 2 years ago, live in wasilla. So we frequent here. We got hooked on glacier brew house about 4-5 years back before moving here. Back then it was amazing. Went to lunch today with my husband for the first time since January. Service was great, polite and prompt. Our food looked good BUT was so over seasoned and salty. Almost to the point of sending it back. I don't know why the chef or cook didn't taste the product but I ordered blackened cod and it was not blackened at all and had the equivalent of season all salt on it in a pretty thick layer. I've lived in the south, I've dined in fine restaurants all over the world, this was not even close to blackened fish. My husband had the shrimp and grits and his salty but he nearly gagged when he tasted mine. I hope this was a one time mistake. Think we will take a break from glacier and try again in the fall. This reminds me of many restaurants in a more touristy part of downtown. It is overall fine, but in many ways it is a pretty average place that's trying to see more fancy than it. The drinks (we did cocktails) lacked fresh ingredients and were heavy on ice. The food was fine, but unspectacular. The service was passable but you can tell the goal is having a large area to cover and customer throughput. We had the salmon catch of the day, which was very good. Got an order of king crab and was disappointed versus others in the area. Crème brûlée was also very good, but the sweetest I have ever had with thick caramelized top. Service was incredibly friendly, but not good follow up. Asked for an ice tea after I finished the beers, never got it. Asked for regular butter, never got it.
