The Tonkotsu was incredibly rich, creamy, and deeply flavorful without being overly heavy. On the flip side, the Shoyu broth was perfectly balanced, savory, and clean. You can tell they put a lot of time into their bases. As a parent, a huge bonus here is the generous portion sizes. The bowls are massive--the portions were large enough that my kids were easily able to share one bowl and both left completely satisfied. Excellent food, great value, and family-friendly. Updating prior review…read more.. I used to come here a lot and really enjoyed it. Decided to give them a try after going to some other sushi places for a bit, so it was a nostalgia trip. They have also just completed an expansion and remodel which added more seating, and opened up the restaurant with a bit. They still use the iPad based ordering system which I always like, since it allows for better pacing. While before I praised them, this time left more to be desired. The sheen seems to have come off. Not sure if they changed chefs, but fish did not seem as fresh, sauces were a lot more heavy handed (overkill), and it just didn't feel as clean tasting as it used to. Maybe an off night, but not nearly as good as I remembered it to be. They have more cute robots now - and the bee decor makes it feel more like a proper restaurant. Though they have a wide menu - I would probably encourage sushi lovers to look elsewhere. The ramen, fried rice, dumplings and bento boxes are probably a stronger suit here now. They also seem to be doing a lot of take out service now as well.

The server's attitude felt unfriendly, and it took a long time for her to refill my water even though the restaurant wasn't busy--I almost ended up taking water from my friend, who brought her own bottle. I also asked for my ramen to be extra spicy, but the server never mentioned there would be an additional $0.50 charge. I don't mind paying extra, but it would have been nice to know beforehand. Especially since most restaurants don't charge for adding spice. On top of that, the food is already on the pricey side, and there's also a 3% credit card fee. So it may be a while until we come back.

I liked the online GUI since it made it easy to customize things for the order. Everything was packaged well in the bag. The rolls were pretty good but one note. They didn't fall apart while I ate which was a plus for takeout. Both were doused with sauce though. I'd rather have just had it on the side in one of the plastic containers at this rate. That aside, the amount of fish was pretty good. I wanted more crunch from the salmon skin. The yaki udon was bland, just needed more. Especially for the veggies which would've shined with a smidge more salt or soy. Not the best, I'd have to try more things to really get a sense of it but this wasn't impressive in the least.
