We are here several times after Goen first opened several years ago and were not impressed. Last night we tried again and we were wowed by the food and the very thoughtful service. The waitperson was very helpful helping me select the gluten free items on the menu. The food was amazing -- the burrata as mentioned in other reviews is exceptional (more pesto please), the beet and feta salad was excellent, and the smoked salmon appetizer was delicious. The waitperson misheard our order (damn masks) and brought the salmon appetizer instead of the salmon dinner by mistake, but comped the appetizer -- even after we ate the whole thing and told her to put it on our bill. We were able to cancel the entree but we will be back soon to try it. We also had the avocado crab roll, which was good, but I probably wouldn't order it again. We tried the cheesecake and flourless chocolate cake with caramel for dessert. We've had better cheesecake elsewhere but the chocolate cake hit the right notes. I don't want to complain about Cohen but for me it's a little too fancy pretending to be too fancy. Foods OK the ambience is OK and the service is OK. I recognize that's not a rave but I have the impression it presents itself is a high-end place and I feel it's an OK place. We really like Goen, now that we gave it some time to tweak their opening menus. Love the mushroom basket. My only complaint is that you need to keep a chicken dish on your menu. One time I go, it's there, and then it's gone. Not everyone eats only fish or meat. Your only poultry is duck and that's way too fatty for some. You had a nice chicken dish not to long ago. Looked at one of the menus online and unfortunately it wasn't up to date. When we sat down realized place was a lot more pricey than originally thought. That that point we could have left but after waiting for 30 minutes, starving and cranky teenagers I bit the bullet. Yeah $15 for a child's plate is ridiculous. A couple of us had the shrimp which was good but somewhat on the small side (came in a bowl). Others had a sushi roll which they liked but portion was way to small for them and they were hungry afterwards. Another had an appetizer which involved beats and they liked it. For the price was expecting a much better experience. Food was subpar and would not recommend for price. read more

Pretty tasty! We were fortunate enough to duck bbn in out of the rain on their opening night. We were greeted with some complimentary edamame at the bar. Drinks were great, staff seemed very knowledgeable. The beeta with goat cheese and brie were delicious. Both the Pho and pork belly were tasty as well! Definitely worth another trip. read more

GOEN is a nice spot with good food and good drinks. However, it's not great food or great drinks. Since the prices are a bit higher, I always expect a little higher level than I receive. It is a very nice ambiance though and it has some unique dishes (Halo Halo). read more

My husband and I came here for our wedding anniversary based on a recommendation. We had an amazing time! One of the best meals of our lives. We highly recommend the winter gnocchi and the poke bowl. The GOEN Green salad has amazing flavor and is a great amount to share with multiple people. We also had the fresh catch of the day meal (mahi mahi), but it was a little over cooked for our taste. The combination of flavors between the chorizo, swiss chard, and tomato reduction were amazing. We finished our meal with their mango dessert which was perfectly sweet (not overly sweet like most desserts). We will definitely return the next time we visit Oahu. read more

I thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant! I took my partner here to celebrate his birthday and the experience was lovely. I made the reservation on Open Table (super easy and convenient) and in the special request section I mentioned we were celebrating his birthday. To start we both had the drink Howzit Goen which was phenomenal! Highly recommend. We ordered the winter Gnocchi as an appetizer and my partner had the filet mignon which you can tell was marinated in this sauce that has some heat to it I order the Hamakua Ali'i Fettuccine and it was FANTASTIC. The sauce was very creamy yet light. To top the night off our server brought out a chocolate cake with cream cheese filling which was complementary (ok $3 but still nice). I thought that was a very nice gesture to top off the celebration dinner. If you're in Kailua and/or visiting definitely check this place out! read more

After seeing on TV, I was very excited to go to Goen but don't think I'll go back. Service seemed rushed and food ok to not too good. Had Brussels sprout and cauliflower pupu which was good and spicy tuna roll which had been refrigerated so rice not soft - costco would have been better. If made fresh it would have been good. Main course was butterfish good but not great and short ribs which had no flavor and very blah! Soyu didn't even help it. Ambiance was nice outside if you get a booth but inside it looked like you were inside someone's storage closet ugh!!! This was a disappointing dining experience for a Kaneohe girl! read more

The halo halo was good and refreshing. It appeared to be home made with natural ingredients as opposed to artificial coloring. It's on the price of your side for the portion you get, but I guess you pay for better ingredients. Overall I would recommend this dessert. read more

I love the open air ambiance of this place, has a bar, sleek and clean, host and bartender were nice. The food was mediocre and so was the mimosa. I only got the fries which is a fried mushroom breadfruit dipped in garlic and red pepper sauce, but my plate had lots of oil grease on it. The menu is really small, i guess for dinner they add a few more items but it is a limited selection. I really wanted to love this place but i will have to stick to Uahi grill. read more

It was thanksgiving evening we were a 7top (party of 7) and this was one of like two places open in kailua we decided to give it a whirl. Out of options and tired from beaching/surfing and did not want to go back to Honolulu. It was good service and good food. I would return if in Kailua again. If you are looking for a charming and upbeat dining experience, you have to try this place! The seating areas are perfectly planned so that each table feels cozy and peaceful. The restaurant loops around and are arranged so that you never feel crowded and overwhelmed with the amount of other tables around you. Loved the atmosphere and decor. Our food server, Ari, was so personable, super attentive, and efficient! The food? Oh my goodness; AMAZING! Every dish was well-prepared, hot, and artistically presented. Each dish had wonderfully unique flavors and combined ingredients that complimented each other. Everything tasted delicious so it's hard to choose a favorite, but if I had to choose, the Fry Basket with herb cream cheese was ONOLICIOUS, and you MUST try the brussel sprout & cauliflower appetizer. Even my son who is not a super huge veggie person, kept going in for another helping. Dessert was simply the best; Halo Halo was light, refreshing, and so pretty to look at! It was like the perfect blend of shaved ice, ube, mochi, and fresh fruit! Our family has visited GOEN several times and are never disappointed with any of their dishes or the amazing service. I was excited to try this restaurant but was disappointed with the very limited menu. The halo halo was yummy.

Friendly, attentive staff, really good service. The place is new - open, casual contemporary, inviting. Parking is not a problem. Dinner menu is limited. For starters, we had the mushroom fries with two teeny pots of dipping sauces, the pork belly (for all the rave reviews, it didn't measure up), mussels and grilled bread, and roasted beets with goat cheese and toasted baguette. All were good but except for the mussels, nothing special for the price. For entrees, we had the New York strip steak, salmon, and fettucine with kale and mushrooms. All were very tasty, but there was a lot of dish with little food, and the entrees are on the pricey side. My husband's salmon was done perfectly (medium rare) but it was about 2 1/2" x 2" x 1" square. We've been fans of Roy Yamaguchi since he opened his restaurant in Hawaii Kai but this wasn't memorable. food was good and service was GREAT!! Jen was our server for the night and made our first dining experience seamless and very enjoyable. Ordered all appetizers, ALL were very good, pork belly and gnocchi were my fav in particular. Gnocchi was super pillowy and soft, as it should be. Entrees ordered were salmon, and the filet and one special catch. Filets were cooked perfectly and salmon too. No complaints for my first time there!!
