Tteokbokki
Ashley R.

We came in for their first vegan night. The vegan menu did not disappoint. We got tteokbokki (more like a soup than a sauce), banchan trio (kimchi, chickpea kongjang, spicy broccoli), Korean fried tofu (this was our absolute favorite), kimchi jeon, peach soda. It was SO busy but staff handled it well and was friendly and enthusiastic. Very casual inside. You order at the counter and then they bring your food to the table. We sat outside at the few haphazard tables.

So excited we have a new authentic Korean spot in this area. Good Korean is few and far in between and hard to find in the Richmond area. The restaurant was very clean, simple decor. Service was good and fast. Let's talk about the food. This food was DELICIOUS and definitely met expectations. As someone who's picky when it comes to Korean food, I was genuinely impressed. The wings although on the smaller end were so good. Very flavorful. Delicious, and loved the sauce that was on it. 9/10. I ordered the Galbi, I appreciated that this was reasonably priced compared to other Korean restaurants in NOVA. This Galbi was incredibly flavorful although the sauce was a little overpowering. Meat quality was decent as well. I loved the portions of the meat. This dish comes with kimchi and cucumber kimchi. Both were really good and you could tell it wasn't fermented too long where it gets sour. Love it! Also loved that it had a hint of spice. If it was a little spicer then it would be PERFECT. 8/10 for this dish. I LOVE that they have the purple rice. I haven't found any Korean spots with that 9/10. My partner got the pork cutlet which he loved. They have ice creams and the viral ice cups and drink pouches which I loved! Definitely want to check out this spot. It's super charming and a hidden gem.

I was so happy to find this little family establishment. I ordered the most amazing kimbap... and it was completely made to order. I don't do egg and they made the rolls fresh. A bit expensive as I was wanted to order more!! We tried so many dishes and let me tell you how good their spicy tofu is I could eat this everyday. They even have a Vegan menu filled with flavor. If you are looking for something special, just ask. You never know.

Berry bingsoo

Been craving some Korean food and I'm so glad I stopped by here! If you're looking for some great home cooked meal, this is the place! The vegan options were phenomenal, as well! I recommend the tofu soup, Korean fried tofu, and tofu galbi jjim! To finish off the dinner, topped it off by eating the berry bingsoo and truly felt refreshed afterwards. The service was out of this world! Can't wait to stop by again!!

The getting here was a tad difficult as WAZE was attempting to have us park on the street. The shop is the corner of the strip mall. You order at the counter and Bibimbap and lunch Bowen's your big choices. The K-pop on the tv added a little flair. Tons of flavor on the beef and pork the banchan was limited with one to a lunch box. Adds are a buck fifty. I had to add. The cabbage was good. The cucumber was possibly cut a tad small. Worth the search.

Gogi Spicy Chicken Box

Appearance of the food looks and smells good but it just didn't have a lot of flavor. Felt like the radish Kim chi wasn't able to soak in the Kim chi flavor so it was just a bland raddish, the spicy chicken was very watered down like it was cooked in a pressure cooker(?) just was not able to absorb the flavor there but it was tender. TLDR: bland food, if you're looking for authentic, this isn't the spot

Vegan Dolsot Bibimbap

Wonderful Korean restaurant with very friendly staff! Ordered the Doslot Bibimbap with vegan beef bulgogi and it was amazing especially with the gochujang sauce. Will definitely be back!

New menu prices (Spring 2023)

My partner loved their tofu wrap, and let the man working choose what to put on it. I, on the other hand, got the Bulgogi plate with tofu, and I didn't love it. The tofu was good, but the sauce came separately, which I was hoping it would come already on (although it was fried fresh, which was nice!). The kimchi was great. I didn't love my veggie Mandu. We sat outside, which was so nice on this beautiful spring day! Overall I probably wouldn't go again, but it's worth a try! I'm pickier than most, so if you like Korean food and are close by, go give them a try!

Tteokbokki and Kimbap Roll

Been here a few times. The owner is down to earth and remembers his customers. We chatted with him for a long time. I love the kimbap and tteokbokki!

Regular Bibimbap no egg

Went here to grab some lunch to-go. Not really busy. I saw the menu posted and the server who helped me was really friendly. He asked if it was my first time there and I said yes so he told me if I wanted my bowl heated it's $2 extra or something like that and since I don't like the fried egg on top of my BiBimBap, I said I'd like it regular. They had a vast array of veggies but I didn't spot the kimchi and didn't choose it. I asked him if that counted as a topping and he said yes but gave it to me anyway. I liked it spicy so that's the sauce I chose. When I got home, I was hungry and I ate this in record time. It was ok but there wasn't a lot of food and it wasn't spicy. I finished it all and I'm not a big eater so that says a lot. For the price ($14.29), I guess I'd want more food but it was ok. It tasted fine, but probably wouldn't return.

Gogi Beef Box - this beer was huge unflavored chunks that got tossed... big disappointment
Janelle T.

So I use Yelp a lot for finding good places to eat while traveling and this was my first MAJOR disappointment from how many reviews and how well rated this place is on here. In a little shopping center off a major road in Richmond, so easily accessible. Walk in and was kind of shocked by first looks... but my daughter was starving and said "well you said it was rated really well". Three people eating/ordering. Two of us got the beef bento box option, one for the chicken bento option. I have never in all my times going to MANY Korean places seen meat like this. It was huge, unflavored chunks. Nothing like some older pictures seen here on Yelp of what others had previously been served that look "normal". My daughter even ordered extra protein and it ended up in the trash. Positives... kimchi, mandu and kimbap were ok... nothing spectacular but at least we were all willing to finish those. I probably would not recommend this place in its current state and what it offered unfortunately. Waste of money.

Oh yeah. The real deal…read more Got takeout here and it exceeded my expectations. Had tried these dishes before at Peter's Fredericksburg location years ago. I got these for the road: Dry-Fried Eggplant Crispy with a touch of savory spice plus cilantro, really good. Grandma Noodles Wavy noodles in a savory brown sauce with dried pepper and cilantro. Spicy but good spicy. Much better than the last time I had them, they hadn't congealed yet. When I mixed everything together it was great. Pork in Spicy Garlic Sauce Oh yeah. Even with just one spice pepper, this rocks. This is what I remember enjoying from years back. Tender shredded pork in a spicy sauce with garlic and multiple kinds of peppers. Would definitely go back if in the area. Parking was easy in the strip mall next to Walmart. Ordering online was easy and pickup was friendly and quick.

It had too much soy sauce and you couldn't taste anything else. The white rice was dry and undercooked. I feel like this is an utter travesty. I was at least expecting good rice. The golden mountain had great flavor but I think it was a mistake to eat it at home. It was mushy by the time we ate it. You can taste the spite in general Tso's chicken. It's like they don't want you to order it. The flavor is just sweet without any complexity. I've had better flavored general Tso sauce from grocery store brands. It was also mushy by the time we ate it. I would never order this again from them.

We walked in not expecting much, and we were amazed at the speed and efficiency of the staff. This place seems like a happening place for the night crowd, lots of young men and women congregating at the bar. Our server was shy and quiet, but she was quick and efficient at her job. We ordered the Thai Iced Tea (quite literally the best I have ever had in my life) and the Drunken Noodles. I am a pad kee mao aficionado, and theirs were fantastic. The atmosphere was interesting, eclectic if I had to sum it up in a word. There were multiple seating genres, if that makes sense. We sat at the small four-top in the lower area, and the view of the whole restaurant was great for people watching if you're into that sort of thing. We came here with no expectations, and we were blown away. What a hidden gem; we certainly got our money's worth. Whole-hearted recommendation from both of us. I was not greeted for 15 minutes and when I did the waitress barely looked at me and quickly ran away. I want to be clear- I don't believe it was her fault because she seemed to have a lot of tables but that must be a staffing issue. The cocktail I got was amazing but it did take another 15 minutes to arrive. The food was average- I ordered 2 sushi rolls. Certainly not worth the wait. Inside was cramped and hot, and the table was weirdly small so I had to eat while hunched over.

I'm sure others feel differently, though, I'm not a fan of the cold. I ordered sushi, including the wonder woman, sweet potato, and spicy tuna. They were all tasty, though spicy tuna as always remains my favorite. My partner ordered the orange chicken because she doesn't care for sushi, but it was pretty fantastic as well. I tried a sample of the chicken and the salad, and both were excellent. Our server was kind and provided excellent service. She never lingered, and continued working diligently all evening. The experience overall was majorly positive, and I would recommend to any who are looking for a solid Asian-fusion spot. I'd give five stars if the sushi was better. I found it to be satisfactory but nothing special, unfortunately.
