Been going to Golden Bull Noodle for many years. I can't believe I haven't written a review for this place. In my last 2 visits I noticed the staff had changed. I remembered there use to be an elderly couple running this place and now it's another couple. No matter, I still like supporting mom and pop small businesses! It's really a hole in the wall place. Heads up cash only! It definitely brings home cooked and comforting food vibes. Portion sizes are great and super filling! For less than $10 bucks less taxes you can get a box of piping hot noodles or chow mein. I always get the usual beef noodles (wet/dry style), chow mein and their super special crispy chow mein with the sauce on the side. For special occasions the crispy chow mein is a delightful treat because the noodles are fried and comes in a huge bundle, symbolizing luck and growth. Plus for birthdays you want to have long noodles for long life! Afterwards you pour the sauce/soup with the meat and veggies together. It's really good! Overall it's one of my favorite mom and pop places! It's inside the GW Supermarket plaza in the food court section. My Mom and I have ordered food from Golden Bull on many occasions. Our go-to items are Hainan Chicken with rice (my Mom's fav) and Hainan Chicken with rice noodles in soup (my fav). The chicken is always on point... very moist and delicious. Best steamed chicken ever! You may request white or dark meat. Drumstick for my Mom please LOL. I go for the dark meat, but most recently I switched to drumstick, too... there just seems to be a lot more meat on the drumstick side than the wing side LOL. They also do party trays which we ordered for my brother's housewarming and birthday party recently. Yang Chou fried rice was not as flavorful as we would have liked... very bland. Salt and pepper chicken wings were delish! Big size wings. A tad more salt and pepper would have been nice. Seafood egg noodles were very tasty... ask for substitute of thick egg noodles otherwise they will make it with thin egg noodles. Of course, we also got two whole hainan chicken. Yummy! Staff is always friendly and pleasant. It looks like a family business with husband and wife running the show. Sometimes we'll see a younger man helping out. Prices are decent... not overly priced. They are located in the GW Supermarket food court. Plenty of parking, but they can get full fairly quickly. Give Golden Bull a try when you're in the San Gabriel area. The food here is delightful it's nestled in the back of the grocery store. The chicken wings were flavorful be cooked well. The chicken chow mein was plentiful and will last me a few days. I ordered #22, the Singapore style fried rice vermicelli noodle. This place seemed to be a mom and pop type of establishment with the guy taking orders and the woman in the back cooking. The shops in this little food court were a little empty as many of the shops were closed on Monday 9/13/21. However, there were a good amount of elderly sitting and eating. The Singapore vermicelli noodles were good. It came in a styrofoam box with a line of foil on the bottom. I've noticed many establishments in LA do this, I'm assuming to keep the food hot? Regardless the vermicelli came with a good amount of onions, bbq pork, and shrimp. I was a little surprised at how much shrimp and pork was given considering it was only $9.50 (cash only). I felt the vermicelli noodles had the curry flavor but it was a tad drier than the ones I've had at other establishments. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by this place because it only had a few reviews on Yelp. Golden Bull Noodle is one of the best hole in the wall noodle shops you can expect and also great bang for buck. This place is in the Food Court area of "The Square", which is in the same plaza as "The Great Wall Supermarket". This is a no frills hole in the wall. No service as it's not a full on restaurant. I would have to say they have one of the best chow fun and chow mein for the price. The portion sizing is huge and the taste is great as well. I prefer the wet style more than the dry style for their chow fun. Like I said before, this is not a full on restaurant so you will need to serve yourself. They do offer complementary sauces and water that you can get in the front of their booth. They are also cash only so no credit card or debit cards. Overall, highly recommend! read more

Came to the food court to get desert but ended up eating lunch here. Got their wonton noodle soup. The wontons themselves tasted like the ones my mom makes at home but more tender. Reminded me of my childhood. The noodles were perfectly cooked and the broth was flavorful but not too salty. I had to wait about 10mins because it was made to order. The man working there (maybe the owner) was very sweet and described several dishes to me. I saw a lot of people getting their Hainan chicken rice/pho. To be honest, I had order envy. The chicken looked really moist and shiny, just begging me to eat it. I wish I had gotten the chicken!!! Oh well, I will be back next time to try! read more

4.5 stars My mom and I usually come to this food court when we go to the nearby market and we ALWAYS get food from this restaurant. We always order the beef chow fun, which is SO good. This place makes it pretty good, but it is very oily, but I'm willing to overlook that because the prices are so cheap and the portions are so large! The plate of noodles is about $5 and it's enough to feed 2-3 hungry people or 4 not-so-hungry people. That's like $1.something to feed per person! One time, my mom and i came to the food court to get the noodles, but it was closed, so we had to order from one of the neighboring places and we were not satisfied. Only golden Bull can hit the spot! Another tiny problem that I have with them is that they water down their red vinegar. That is a no-no in my book. I've been eating here since forever! It's one of my best childhood memories where I would walk with my mom and siblings to this food court. My mom would always order the seafood chow fun and chow mein here ALL THE TIME. Since then, I would order seafood chow fun anytime I was in the area. The ladies that USED to work there are okay. Not friendly, but not rude as well. I think they recognize me everytime I visit because all I had to say was "Seafood chow fun with gravy on the side"...cause of course, it's a to-go order and I didn't want the gravy on the top of the noodles already. Anyway, I'm sad to say...I think they have retired and changed owners. The last two times I've been there, I've encountered another younger looking lady who is not pleasant at all. So here's a tip: if you don't speak Chinese, good luck..this woman doesn't seem like she knows a lick of English at all! She had the cook come talk to me cause I wanted the gravy on the side. I was in a bad mood at that time and cursed under my breath, but I let it go. The second time, today, it was the same rude woman. I asked for the same thing with gravy on the side. I then received my order but with the gravy on the noodles already. When I told her I wanted it on the side like I told them so many times, she started saying all these stuff in Chinese (I'm sure it was her talking shit, haha). So I gave up ordering here ever again! This is located inside The Square in San Gabriel. Like all other eateries there, it's extremely affordable and filling. I've gotten the wonton noodle soup here and the wonton portions are generous and tasty. I also enjoy getting their iced coffee because it's only $2. Oh my god. I never yelp. I just had the best shrimp rice noodle (ha cherng fun) I've ever had in my entire life. Its the silkiest thing ever. Unlike anything at dimsum restaurants and I'm Chinese, I grew up eating chinese food, my dad was a chef, etc. Trust me. My brother says it's as good as the ones in China. Very authentic. The lady that cooks inside was also super nice. I told her it was very very good (when we decided to go back to buy the same dish again). She lit up and laughed with humility. Don't order Hainan Chicken here, is a rip off, they use normal chicken found in typical grocery store and serve you the cheapest part of the chicken which is the thigh. The rice is not bad but lack flavor, the chicken should be really 1 star consider paying $5.25 for it, but since it does come with a soup and no tax. Chicken was tender and rice was full of flavor. Not bland or dry. They give u a free soup and there's free hot tea available. Definitely get the Hainam Chicken as everyone else said. great hainam chicken prices (after tax): $4.75 for dark meat $5.75 for white meat quantity is about the same as savoy. it's way less greasier than savoy. but overall, savoy's taste better... probably because it has about 5 times the amount of grease in the rice and better sauces... although i really like Golden Bull's ginger onion sauce. i'm subtracting a star because i haven't tried anything else besides the hainam chicken and it isn't better than savoy's imo (but a very very good alternative for the health conscious folks). read more

After reading the review(s) about "Golden Bull Noodle" Hainanese Chicken with rice, my wife and I decided to stop at Golden Bull Noodle to try their Hainanese Chickeb Rice. I will review the four component of this dish that were served: 1. The chicken was basic boiled chicken and virtually no flavor. Most of the pieces we got were chest bones with very little meat and one wing. 2. The rice? Give me a break! Plain steamed rice, very bland and tasteless. We have been to China, Hong Kong, and many restaurants in the San Gabriel Valley area. We have never had tasteless rice. Furthermore, the rice was very dry. 3. The soup was some sort of a broth. We think it was vegetable soup / broth. We ended adding a dash of soy sauce to make the soup flavorful. 4. The pickled vegetables was very good and deserves high marks. 5. The scallion / garlic dipping sauce was very good and also deserves high marks. If you had authentic Hainanese Chicken Rice, then the one from Golden Bull Noodle tastes bland and will disappoint you. Consolation? We only paid $11.00 for both plates, each $5.50, no tax. To us, the Hainanese Chicken Rice was unacceptable and therefore only two stars are given. This place is located inside the Square food court. It's a great place to get some inexpensive and decent Chinese rice plates. It's my go to place if I want to eat cheap and quickly. This is a great place to go for lunch or take out. I usually get the Hainam Chicken there, it comes with free soup. Sometimes I pay a little extra to get some more soup there. Other foods that I have also tried are the seafood chow mein, the beef chow fun and the porridge. The porridge is good for those cold days or when you are starting to get sick. I've had only a couple things here (fried rice, noodles) and they're really good. I may revise the star rating upwards. The free soup, of kelp, was good. The free tea in the dispenser is really good, especially for a food court restaurant like this. I've paid for worse tea (at Starbucks across the street). The Beef Chow Fun lacked flavor but was well cooked. The wonton noodle soup wasn't bad but the wontons were soft and the shrimp was mushy....not crisp to the bite. The best dish was the fillet fish with vegetables. Last review was a year ago, most people eaten here are mostly old timers so they don't bother to write a review. Anyway, ordered a minced beef over rice, was horrible, minced meats were fats mostly and some were parts you can't even chew on, I don't know what they were but I know its not chewable. I think they change ownership, the old lady were not there anymore, I thought that is already an indication that maybe I should not eat here but remembering how large the portion was back then I gave it another shot. Portion is large, but the quality went down.
