On my last visit the crust and skin was tasty on the ever smaller pieces. But, the meat was a bit tough and chewy. This is unusual at my go to place since the '90's. This store has gone through many transformations over the years. The quality has been above average. The service comes and goes depending on who is on the schedule that week. But, they have free soft serve ice cream and root beer. Make yourself a root beer float and forgive the kid at the counter for not understanding the service that adults desire. read more

We usually have a good experience at Golden Chick but this time, nothing went right. They close everyday at 10:00 pm and we walked in at 9:20 pm, 40 minutes prior to closing. The cashier was already giving us a death stare before we even walked in. We were debating if we wanted to dine in or take out, and since there was 40 minutes til closing, we decided to dine in. When we were ordering though, the cashier lady pushed us to have it to go so we said yes. They were already trying to kick us out with 40 minutes left of them being open. They also messed up our orders by giving us not what we ordered. When waiting for our order, the cashier lady went and locked the doors and took a smoke break outside, instead of catering to our needs. They offer free ice cream with every meal purchase, but they were already out when we got there and didn't offer to refill it. While he was gone I saw they had mac n cheese. My honey loves mac n cheese. He came back. I ordered the mac. He seemed to be perturbed to have to slide his card. He got the Mac put it into the bag. I paid. He was talking to his employee and never acknowledged me again. I am used to better customer support. I may have to look for another store. If I like the food. Total fail... We went to this location to get lunch while we watched a kids tee-ball game. Ordered 16pc strip with double fries for my 3 children, my mother and I. Upon arrival at the game, we realized that instead of the original that we ordered, they had given us the spicy strips instead, which my kids can't eat. After leaving the game, we had to stop somewhere to get lunch for the kids (age 6 and under). After that we returned the chicken. They have us a very hard time for a refund stating that they couldn't, even though our receipt stated original and it was clearly spicy in the returned box. We will never return here for any reason. The fried chicken is the best fried chicken that I've ever had. The dark meat is very juicy especially if you get the leg and thigh combos. There is free ice cream which is a plus and their lotta zing puts that extra pop into your meal. The rolls are freshly baked and are very delicious. Prices are about a buck too high for the amount of food. Chicken was surprisingly tender. The rolls were not that great at all. Maybe it was the flavor of Pepsi creating some weird aftertaste, but the rolls had a vaguely soapy flavor and they were far too sweet. They seem more suited as some sort of dessert than dinner rolls. We had never been to Golden Chick before, but we got a coupon in the mail and decided "why not?" The interior is very nice and clean. The cashier was extremely friendly and made jokes with all of the customers making it a lighthearted environment. He related personally to each customer, and also took our order correctly. He even told us about happy hour specials for drinks. Who knew they even had a happy hour? We got the 5 piece mixed fried, mashed potatoes, fried okra, Mac n cheese, and rolls. The chicken was really good and were all of the sides-especially the mashed potatoes! And the gravy was also tasty! The manager was on top of his employees making sure that they weren't taking too long of breaks. There was also free soft serve ice cream with every meal purchase. The interior is looking great after a recent remodel. The staff is friendly and curteous even in the face of certain customers. Like the older gentleman who we watched throw his tray at the manager because his mashed potatoes didn't come in a black bowl like in the picture on the menu. This is a customer service review., not reflective of food as the restaurant lost a $50 sale. This location advertises delivery on its site, on Yelp, online and the vehicle they use for deliveries outside their store. After spending time searching the net on how to make a delivery order, there is none. I finally call the store at 9:04 and ask to make a delivery order. All listing say the store is open and delivers till 10pm, so it wasn't a right at closing time call. Ok back to call, person who answers says oh we don't deliver after 9.....I respond its 9:04 and I had spent a bit of time searching the net on how to place an order online and all sites say your open till 10 with nothing mentioned about shorter delivery hours?. He responds back sorry.. I didn't bother speaking with a manager as even if they fulfilled the order I would be suspect of the food handling. I went on to order food with a place that simply does what they say they do. There's plenty of other chicken options. FYI the foods good here, as it's just down the street from me I've been a customer since 2003, just first time to call for delivery.... And my last time to do business with them. read more

After reading the reviews I decided to order Golden Chick for lunch this afternoon... and Oh darling, it was the best . The spicy tenders were awesome with the Lotta Zing spice especially dipped in their gravy. The roll was awesome only wish that I had ordered about 3 more.. The okra was good, was fried crispy and not soggy at all. Also ordered a serving of the corn fritters, which were sweet and succulent. Golden chick gets my vote. It is a bit pricey but my tenders were pretty big and it beats friend chicken soaked in grease. This is my new go to place from now on. read more

If you see a one or two star rating on this location I would definitely disregard as this fried chicken is excellent. If you order a fried chicken breast you get a complete piece and not just a section.Plus they have some of the best chicken salad around and the sandwich i stacked full of the salad. The staff is courteous and accommodating and they will get your meal ready as quickly as possible. The bread is very good and best of all there is free soft-serve ice cream. I've lost all respect for the way this Golden Chick handles customer service! The last thing I want to do on a Tuesday night is drive back up to the restaurant for a mistake THEY created! I ordered an 8 piece mix. I requested the 2 thighs be legs instead. That of course means I should have gotten 4 legs, 2 wings, and 2 breast. When I got home and opened the box there were 8 legs in the box!!!! I called them back to let them know how my order was wrong and asked if I could be compensated on my next visit. The lady I spoke to must have been the manager or the one who fixed my order, because she replied with "I remember that order." I live 15 minutes from this location, so there was no way I felt like driving back up there in traffic along Arapaho and Hwy 75. She kept telling me to bring the chicken back, and they'd replace it. I asked to just compensate me the next time. She said they couldn't do that. Whatever Golden Chick! I won't return to this location anytime soon! I have lived and worked in Richardson over 40 years. This has always been one of my favorite places to eat...they have always been nice and the food has been great...BUT...something has changed. Over the last 4 months when we have gotten home we have found out they have left out food, given us the wrong food, we payed extra for a chicken breast only and received a wing and leg, several other mishaps and twice recently we have gotten the chicken salad and while delicious there have been small chicken bones and fairly large gristle pieces in the serving. Tonight we ordered 2 family sized chicken salads and between them there were 6 bones and 3 gristle pieces so big they we nauseating. We have loved this place-probably eat the food 3 or 4 times a week either for lunch or dinner. Totally frustrating because it has happened over and over these past few months and the bones are dangerous for adults but can be critically dangerous for children. We have gone from work and ordered large unsweetened tea with a piece of chicken only to get back to work and it's a large sweet tea. No time to return and exchange and depending how many teas we have ordered-they are 2.15 plus tax so 4.98 for 2 and that's five bucks thrown away for every 2 ordered so many times it's 10 or 20 dollars down the drain literally. Sadly I must change our favorite place to go. I have talked with the manager but nothing has changed. I don't recommend this place any more. read more
