This Golden Corral has such a low price compared to other local restaurants. Dinner for us (over 60 years old) was $23. There is no Sales tax in Anchorage. We ate at 3PM on a Sunday. The highlight of the meal was the steak that was cooked off the grill. It was quite good. A 5.0 out of 5. The general selection of food was a bit less than we usually get at Golden Corall. They did have a vanilla cake with blue stars on the icing. That was different and good. Other items we usually enjoy at Golden Corral were not at this buffet. They were quite busy and we had trouble getting our drinks refillled and our dirty dishes removed. Ok, so we usually only go here when husband gets home late on date night, and it's gone past dinnertime, so we know we have to go somewhere where the food is instantly available, where i don't have to wait for it to be cooked, otherwise i have a hangry meltdown freak out. Choices are limited for this type of eating - we normally go here, or OEC Revolving Sushi. Taco King also serve food super fast, but aren't somewhere I'd consider for date night, though I'm happy to go there any other night. Anyway, Golden Corral - it has a bad reputation, but i really don't have issues with it. In some of my foody groups, the steaks are consistently rated well, and they always look to be cooked very nicely. It's not at all a glamorous dining room, it's very utilitarian, with informational posters liberally sprinkled around the room. It is ALWAYS busy. I have never seen the place empty, or even sparsely filled. The servers work hard here, and are back and forth constantly. You never have to wait for a drink refill - they are ON IT. I'm not really the type of person who can make the most of an All-You-Can-Eat buffet dinner. I get super hungry, however i can't fit as much in, as i think i can. *My eyes are bigger than my belly* The salad bar is where i go to first, and there is a decent selection, it's normally nice and fresh too. I'll just list the things i consistently get, as i obviously love them. Bourbon Chicken, Fried Rice, Breaded Shrimp, Onion Rings (those are REALLY good) Mushrooms, Steak Fries, Baked Beans, Pot Roast, Hot Link Sausage, Mash - these are all regular things i get. The other items they serve may be equally good, but i rarely deviate when i find a thing I like. So, that's 2 plates - 1 of salad, 1 plate of those things i listed above, and then tonight instead of those tiny bowls for desserts, i just got a plate. Those bowls are way too tiny. I'm not normally a fan of desserts tbh, but they had these mini churros, and since Costco had the absolute NERVE to take those amazing Churros off their menu in the food court, it was most gratifying to see these really good looking mini churros. I got 4, along with some chocolate pudding to dip them in, and some white whipped topping of some kind, a Rice Krispie Treat, some Carrot Cake, some Mud Pie. The Carrot Cake is usually good. The Mud Pie was not my cup of tea at all, just a generic brown chocolatey sort of filling topped with a whipped topping. I don't know what it is, but i feel this country does not enjoy real Whipped Cream as much as I do. And no, I am not referring to a squirt from a can. What I'm talking about is Heavy Whipping Cream (40% fat content) with some powdered sugar, and vanilla essence, whipped into firm peaks, which is actually Chantilly Cream, and it's highly underestimated, and under utilised in this country. I make it myself in all my desserts, and my friends seem to enjoy it, but it's rarely offered in restaurants. The artificial stuff is no nearly as nice, and has a distinct synthetic taste. How can people prefer it to real Whipped Cream? (not from a can) So anyway, Fine Dining it's not. But if you're very hungry and can eat a lot of food, and need to just sort of, get your head in the trough, you can't go far wrong with Golden Corral, and I'll continue to come here when I'm Hangry. read more

Second time I was underwhelmed by the steak. PLEASE change the grillman!!! He was a bit rude and the steaks were COOOOOLLLLDDDD!!! Nothing warm about them. Dangerous!!! The waitress in our section said our table was not one of the tables she waits upon. Our utensils and napkins did not come until after a few minutes of sitting down with out first plates. Then "another" waitress took the paper and presented the drink list to Sara. She looked in our direction and stared a few seconds and what looked like was Sara told the other waitress to get our drinks. Sara- terrible service. She spend a lot of time with one table speaking in their language. No one came to ask how we were or if we needed refills. I went to Sara and asked her if our table is one of the tables she waits on. She said no. I think she was lying- especially after seeing another waitress go to her to indicate our drinks have not come to our table. NO tip was left. Fried chicken surprisingly good. One of the best. I can see many go for that. Butterfly shrimp was so good. Lots of varieties. Taco meat is decent. Waiters/waitresses keep your soft drinks refilled. Not amazing at all because the DFAC on Fort Richardson has amazing food and restaurant cleanliness Golden Corral has better food than the soup kitchen that serves the homeless population of Anchorage. The place to go when hungry. We are here each time in Anchorage! More than once usually- such a wide selection of foods. Never had issues with quality or temperature- Our interactions with Chuck have been positive - tho have had nothing to complain about - he seems nice to us - despite all the bad reviews. The Golden Corral Buffet is the largest restaurant of its type in Alaska. There are a few other buffets but all are much smaller and have no way near the number and type of dishes you can get at the Golden Corral. It serves three meals a day that are all you can eat. They cover everything type of home cooking style offerings from Soups and Salads to Dessert's. Many of the dishes are always available but with special items offered on some days and not every day. They have prices for adults, children, Seniors and military and even a special price for anyone coming in for the early bird dining before the evening switch over. There food is always plentiful, varied, cooked like your mother cooked it at home. You choose what you want to eat and how much. They also offer an option to pick out your meal to go and pay by the pound. Drinks and tips to your wait staff are the only expense other than your basic meal price. They have a large setting capacity and even a room for parties or meetings that you can control participants. They don't cater your party so plan on bringing your own birthday cake. I f you are on a diet, vegan, vegetarian or hav eating restrictions you are only governed by your own choices and will power. I many times have soup, salad and vegetables and avoid all the battered, fried, carbohydrates and high calorie items. If your looking for good food with variety at a reasonable price and plenty of parking try the Golden Corral. Unfortunately I had a very disappointing experience at Golden Corral, Anchorage AK today 9/19/24. My main complaint was there was an extremely poor selection of items that are normally out for lunch. So many empty slots. For lunch there was no beef sliders, all the condiments were there, but no sandwiches. There was no fish, no stuffing, hot dogs with no buns, no mac & cheese. So we decided to go here and try their breakfast. We to there at 10:10 and breakfast is over at 11. There was one person at the registers and she had a line. She decide to be more than just friendly and chatted with several people in line. This made paying slower or completely stop. We didn't get through the line until 10: 24. They then decided to pull all the breakfast foods at 10:53. They REALY sell made to order omelets however there is 1 person making them and fresh eggs. They have a lot of regulars so the staff like to stop and chat which took forever at the omelet staion. The lady also kept leaving to stock her area. When they pulled the breakfast food a moody guy from the back just dropped the dishes on the counter space by the omelets, so everything was stopped to clean that up. She then needed to take down the waffle maker, it's was still not 11 and she had people in line. Probably not the best place for a relaxed breakfast or go right at 8 am. read more

DIFFERENCES LUNCH VS. DINNER (no steaks) At 11:15 the grill, normally covered with steaks, was empty and unmanned. This got me to checkin' for other differences: No sauted mushrooms No bourbon chicken Liver and Onions was on offer - but generally NOT for dinner. Nice raised rolls were right next to the liver - usually offered elsewhere. Note - this is NOT an exhaustive survey. For instance, "missing items" may have been offered in "an undisclosed location" OTHER GENERAL NOTES 1) With little effort, and no-little discipline, one may enjoy a healthful meal at Golden Corral - Vegan, low-carb, low-fat, Atkins, South Park** low-or-no-Gluten, etc. 2) Golden Corral always features a well-appointed SALAD BAR - along with several other prepared salads. 3) There is an exception to the "no beverage option" - one may request "bottomless" coffee - which can be made acceptable with half-and-half and/or various sweeteners. This review might come as a shock to some based on the rating I'm giving for this place, but I have always had a good dining experience despite a number of negative ratings I've read on the Golden Corral. The buffet restaurant is located along C St. just before the Tudor intersection going northbound across from the Hilton Garden Inn and behind TGI Friday's. My most recent visit was on my lunch break a few days ago where not surprisingly, the parking lot was packed. Surprisingly, there was little to no wait when I entered, paid for the buffet, picked up a plate to fill up on food, and find an empty area of the restaurant to settle down for a hearty lunch. Take note that whenever you come in for lunch or dinner, the west end of the dining area will always have a table available as opposed to the east side by the registers where every table is taken and people are cramped close together. That is no way to enjoy a meal here or anywhere else for that matter. The food selections were plentiful on variety along with baked ham, cheeseburger sliders, taco fixings, fillets of salmon or halibut, bourbon or sesame chicken, pepperoni pizza, and spaghetti among others. I decided to keep it low carb and filled up my plate with a generous helping of the Yankee Pot Roast... (this has always been a personal favorite of mine at Golden Corral, whether it is here or down in the Lower 48), some slow-roasted Pulled Pork, green beans, and steamed cabbage with bacon bits. The pot roast was tender with caramelized onions and steamed carrots for a delicious start with the green beans and steamed cabbage a great complement for the sides. The biggest surprise and I can understand if you don't believe me, is that the pulled pork is really good here, even more so than the BBQ restaurants scattered around town. Seasoned and salted just right, I had to go back for seconds with some collard greens and sauteed mushrooms before heading back to work fully satisfied, ready for round two at the office. In addition to the main buffet, there is also a separate salad bar and dessert area. You can also order the buffet to go if you don't have the time to dine in. Complimentary yeast rolls come with to go orders. Just make sure you mention this in case they forget. Another surprising thing to know even though this may have been available for some time now, but I honestly had no idea, is that Doordash is available here which means you can order the buffet online and have it delivered to your office or home if you don't feel like dealing with the crowds. For those serving or who have served in the Armed Forces, Military Appreciation Night will be held this year on Monday, Nov. 11th. A free buffet will be given to all active duty, veterans, retirees, and those in the National Guard or Reserves. read more

I went to dinner on 8/17/24 and was so disgusted, that I was angry with myself for not demanding my $ back. I tried to eat their food, but I just couldn't find anything decent except their fried catfish was delish. The place was filthy inside and out, with paint chips, dirt, things spilled all over the floors with noone cleaning anything. I even watched one of their workers slice fresh vegetables with no gloves on! I will never return and I don't see how they are open! Where's the Board of Health in Alaska, is there one? read more

I've been to many Golden Corrals in the Southern US and this one is by far the worse. Owner and manager needs to invest more time and resources before I walk back through the door. I have to agree with most of the one-star reviews... this place is over-priced for what it is. Unless you are a big eater, you're just not going to get your money's worth because the food just isn't that good. I wouldn't go as far to say it's one-star quality, but it's really just MEH. No bandaids under your food or anything, but I didn't sample anything that made me think I was getting my money's worth. The coffee wasn't even good, and for as busy as this place is, it should have been fresh and tasty. Our server was impossible to flag down and I waited over 10 minutes for my coffee. Ironically, what I enjoyed the most about this place was free- the people watching made it worth a visit. I got a kick out of watching the biker get-together for a morning nosh. THAT was interesting. Chuck lacks tact and diplomacy . It's easy to be tactful and courteous to customers except for when you walk around with a chip on your shoulder saying "it's my Friday so I'm laughing at everyone I'm making mad, they can't hurt me". Not only did he do this to multiple customers, he started a transaction and then left the cashier to get yelled at by a customer because he left to pay attention to larger groups of people. He also allowed said groups to go ahead of people that were clearly there before them, in line. I felt sorry for the cashier because she was waiting for him to come back, yet she took the brunt of his complacency and lack of multitasking. He just passed on by when the customer was rudely snapping at her. Watching how he catered to certain people and displayed lack of care of others was ridiculous. Karma will serve Chuck well. Whomever left him to manage should take a hard look at their decision and give him additional training. All the chaos he caused was truly unnecessary. I feel sorry for those whom have to work with him, while he walks around with his chest puffed out, meanwhile leaving them to pick up his chaotic pieces of the puzzle. Chuck is of weak caliber as he would say what he wanted to say and then walk away quickly. It's laughable. I mean if you are going to be a jerk to everyone, stand in your own light and stand tall. Don't run. It's unbecoming of a man, but so was his attitude. Can't really expect much from someone who has weak character. Thank God he doesn't cook the food. Not like a small piece - but a foot long plus dark thick horse hair cooked into the chicken gravy dish. The hair was on my plate and the big piece of chicken pulled out of the bin and swung from the hair on the plate. Absolutely disgusting. So a chat with the woman manager lady made clear her concern - absolutely 0 f***'s. She was like mad at us for bringing it up. Like it's normal and we were being picky. I went to Golden Corral and while I was waiting to pay for my carry out order (I know it was 3:45 because they didn't have any burgers) I stood there talking with a manager for about 5 minutes. A couple at the cash register was telling the cashier that it was 3:56pm when they got into line (it was only 4:01 at this time) and that they shouldn't have to pay dinner prices just because the cashier wasn't fast enough (and I agree with that statement 100%) because they were there before 4pm. The manager gave them the "sorry but the computer system automatically switches over and there's nothing I can do about it" and needless to say they left very unhappy. I would have been livid thrown and thrown a full on fuss. Because for one thing, I don't believe that the manager would be unable to correct the total, or he could have offered a $5 coupon voucher or SOMETHING! He didn't do anything to make the situation better (the line had grown substantially and everyone was listening & looking at this point) and he just kept saying "Nope. Sorry but I can't do anything" . After they did leave he started talking to me about "the nerve of some people". Because I had been standing there for at least 5 minutes waiting to have my to go order weighed and rung up, I didn't want to say that I completely disagreed with the way he handled it. I've been coming here for years so I know he's not new, but perhaps a seminar on customer appreciation. I've been in the customer service area for a looong time, and I felt like he offered zero customer service and he lost customers (myself and the couple) and he didn't seems to be bothered by that at all. I went here to go eat and it looks nice and all. When I went to get my food it looked good too. But it tasted mid. My stomach started hurting after I was on the toilet for hours. Usually I'm not a buffet person. I went there to try something different on Saturday evening around 5pm. Seating was easy enough to find one inside. Our waiter was very attentive without hovering. My glass was never empty. A fresh glass of tea was delivered ever time it got to 1/3 empty. The grill buffet section was well attended to. Those grill masters were happy to serve you what you've asked for. The prime rib was very tender and tasty. I love mushrooms and their marinated ones were spot on as a complement to the prime rib. I enjoyed the fried okra. It was fresh, tender and hot. I tried several items and my overall impression is that the serving containers were continuously refilled with freshly prepared selections. Buffet breakfast for under $10 - now that's a pretty good deal. Always seen the Golden Corral board but never had the chance to eat here until we did this time. One of my friends told me it was buffet breakfast and I was excited as we walked in. They have a pretty decent spread. Eggs, sausage, steak, toast and all the other works that you would typically want to see in a breakfast buffet. The unlimited coffee is pretty decent too. Good service as well. Easter morning, before the churches let out, at 0930 this business was already struggling to keep up with basic services. Coffee in a plastic cup (out of coffee cups), arguments over which waiter covers which area, don't break your party up between arbitrary service areas or the error of your ways will be pointed out to you by your already (after a brief morning service) harried wait person. But this is infrastructure, how's the food? Food is not bad but kids running rampant over the service lines has me totally questioning how one keeps a business like this sanitary. So, to start things off I was staying at the hotel next door. They didn't have a restaurant in house, so decided to walk over to the Golden Corral in the parking lot. I hadn't eaten at a Golden Corral before, but my expectations were pretty low. So I walk over, and first off was a little shocked that it costed $20 to eat what I had a feeling was going to be low quality buffet food. I pass the checkout and go find a clean table. The bar looked ok, a salad area, an Asian area, bbq/steak area, pizza/Italian area, and dessert bar. I fix a small plate to start out with some Asian rice, a couple pieces of chicken, and an egg roll. None of it was that tasty, but I had just flown across the country and was starving. I decided that fortune favors the bold and grabbed a second plate with some more rice, a couple pieces of fried ravioli, and a chicken strip. About 3/4 through the second plate, I feel a familiar but ominous rumble. I gotta go. Need to reach the sanctity of my hotel room so I could unleash this Kraken! Luckily I had already paid on the way in, so I bolted outta there. I had a case of the walking farts that I don't think I had in my 35 years seen the likes of before. I gotta hustle if I'm making it to my room before game time. Cheeks clinched, I finally make it, thank the Lord. 27 agonizing minutes later my colon had a shine on it that Chip Foose himself couldn't have reproduced. This was our last night in Anchorage and we stayed at the hotel nearby. The buffet was okay, but the prime steak was probably the best part. It is better to get here before 6PM since that is when all the action happens. Luckily, we got there early and I sampled a little of everything. The salad bar was pretty solid as well as the fruit selection with watermelon. The desert was okay with soft serve yogurt and chocolate fountain.
