Back again for another try.... Was in the area so stopped. I sat in the area near the bathrooms and was shocked to see a big round table FULL of dirty dishes. There were dishes on some of the empty tables as well....really bothers me. I wish I had moved. I enjoyed my salad and had some decent veggies but tried a steak this night and was surprised at how good it was. The cut of meat was not great but the flavor was good. Another favorite here is the pot roast with carrots and potatoes. Good every time. Fried chicken was ok....publix is better.... I had to ask and wait for some mashed potatoes. Looks like a favorite like that would have been replaced without having to ask. I had to get a large bill changed at the register so I could leave a tip. My friends occasionally go to Golden Corral. It's a reasonably priced buffet with the expected quality and service. * Don't leave a plate unattended or it'll disappear, even if you weren't done. * They were actually quite good at refilling water, soda, coffee. Plaudits. * The cooks are speeding to get things replenished in the buffet. Take as you will. We sat at one end and I found some of the best food couched at the entire far end of the buffet where man fears to tread. Applying my noggin, I eyed each food I saw, steering clear of the overprocessed varieties and steering toward ones that didn't look too watery or too firm. All in all this is my second time at Golden Corral, and both times I was able to find a satisfying meal by poking through every offering and being choosy. You can score four stars with that in mind. The service at this restaurant is seriously declining. Our server just disappeared halfway through our meal.. plates piling up and we needed drink refills. Many of buffet dishes were finished. Hard to find staff to help with replenishment. We asked specifically for sweet potato pie with marshmallows to be replenish.. found the cook has given us sweet potato with just a layer of brown sugar and marshmallows on- not finished in oven like it is meant to be. I had to talk to 4 people to explain this needs to be done.. as the first 3 could not understand or speak English. We hardly ever do buffets but we wanted to try the breakfast buffet just because it had been a while. The place looked clean although I hadn't even looked for the sanitation grade. The food also looked decent on the buffet but after we grabbed our plates, we saw THREE roaches crawling VERY close to the pancakes. Unfortunately I will not be returning here again. The food is very low quality compared to the other locations. The equivalent of school lunch. The buffet seems to never be replenished and the temperature of the food is not fresh. There is no reason why the food is ice cold. The staff is nice but it's not enough for me to return. The options are not as plentiful as their other locations. I'm glad I only paid $6 for my child because otherwise the meal was not worth a dime. The positive is there were vegetable options. I had the fried shrimp, whiting, bbq chicken, okra stew, black eyed peas, sweet potato, broccoli salad, zucchini, fruit, pumpkin pie. Demeaning employees is rude and uncalled for- but in front of customers is unprofessional. The poor gal at the register today was oblivious to what was going on- this is a direct reflection to the manager for lack of training. She should not have been treated the way she was. I am rating this golden corral on how it compares to other buffets in the area- and not on how it compares to other restaurants. Now then, you walk in and there is a huge wall to your left of 'get your own' beverages. Upon sitting down after we found a table I became worried that if you chose one of the unusual beverages [smoothies, icees, teas, lemonades!] that there would be no refills as the waitress stations that they have only contain a soft drink machine. Have no fear! The waitresses will bring you plenty of refills for whatever you choose to purchase. The mango smoothie is delicious as a drink but in no way tastes like a smoothie. Onto cleanliness! The place is very clean because it is new, however you can tell that in a year or so this place will be kind of a garbage dump like some of the other ones in the area. Our waitress cleaned plates off our table quickly and efficiently. Now for selection! I posted a picture just looking down the salad bar...this place is huge. definately one of the larger golden corrals in the area. great selection and plenty of healthy options too. Their buttered biscuits were amazing and if your into that peppery tasting corn from your elementary school days they've got that too. The lunch selection featured pulled pork, mini angus sliders, and a huge salad selection. No chocolate wonderfall exists at this location. Overall this place is great for the price. We reserved space for our group of 15 a few weeks ago for a Saturday lunch at 1pm. Some of our group started arriving at 12:30, and our space was already available. We had a separate room away from the other customers and an excellent server arranging the tables, bringing fresh hot rolls and keeping beverages filled. This one establishment has absolutely the worst customer service in have ever seen. Once I sat down to eat.i could not get anyone to help me get mustard. I asked 2 different people. They just looked at me. Finally I went to good area by the build a burger sign. Ask an AA gentleman.,He told me mustard mustard packets were by the cashier check out? He rude and very Kert. Odd,... No mustard or servers to get it? But I can get it at check out. I walked around the restaurant for a minute looking for anyone to help. I finally asked to speak with a manager. After waiting 5 to 10 minutes...i saw a woman, know now as MS. Bobbi, coming out of the back. She stopped not once, not twice,but 3 times. To ask employees what I wanted. She stopped by and said"what can I help you with?" I stated you are way to late. I found the mustard I even found the A1 sauce I,had also requested. By now the burger was cold. I told her that the other people were obviously more important than myself. She lied and stated she did not stop and talk to anyone. I watched her the whole time. Then she kept interrupting me. I'm good very angry!. I asked her for the district manager name and phone number. I never got it. My now new server, Who was excellent, went to ask for me again. I received a card with the GM name . The response I received was she didn't know it. So,I feel compelled to drive the Corp office Monday off Glennwood Avenue. I eat at other GC. Particularly the one in Wake Forest,the service and leadership is outstanding!!! Employees helpful and always smiling. DO NOT GO TO THE ONE IN GARNER!!! I have never seen such a poorly ran, disheveled, tired looking restaurant and building for one that was just "remodeled". It resulted in a coat of paint and fresh layout. However, everything in the kitchen is still run down, broken, and aged. Food was tasteless, lackluster and what we did get was just bad. Desserts tasted like they were made days ago. Bread was all burnt and looking at the ovens they used to make them - no surprise. All dessert machines broken or not functioning properly. 80% of employees had a mask on but all but 2 that I could see had them on their chins including our waitress! Visited the Greensboro location and had mandatory hand sanitizer and someone handed you a plate/glove to wear. Not here. As far as the staff were concerned - they could care less that people were even here. Yelling to each other across the restaurant, waiting 15 minutes to get drinks, just bad. After forcing the Golden Corral in Cary to go out of business, the Terror descended upon this Golden Corral to wreck havoc, chaos, and destruction. Know what's even more terrifying than my appetite? Figuring out how to enter this Golden Corral. There are two total streetlights in Garner, and neither one of them are near this Golden Corral. After a few u-turns, I finally found the restaurant's entrance. Golden Corral isn't the absolute best buffet ever, but it's still pretty good. I eat absolutely everything, but I enter Golden Corral with one thing in mind - steak. This Golden Corral must have received intelligence that the Terror was about to descend upon it. The steak station ran more slowly than any other Golden Corral that I've visited. I don't mind a slow grill station, but the person running the station proves that anybody can wear a chef's jacket. Anybody who has ever ran a grill should be able to give an approximation on the cook of a steak. I like to eat my steaks on the rare side, because I'm a tough guy who lives life on the edge. All of my steaks were close to well done, with one of them mildly burnt. Service doesn't make up too big of a part of a buffet, but it still matters to a certain extent. While buffet servers have large sections, they still only have two real responsibilities - refill drinks and clear tables. Our server was not particularly busy. She was simply lazy. I noticed her standing behind the line and whining to one of the chefs about how tired she is. 8:00 is far too early to whine about exhaustion. Another newly designed GC opened, and wow! GC, in general, has declined for me, over the years. This new design is well received. The wait staff was very friendly, on a mid-afternoon weekday. The serving area and seating are differently designed. The food is no longer central. It is now covering an entire back wall, with a second row off of that. The selection is perhaps 1.5-2 times as large. I like it! The seating is a little oddly patterned, but I have no complaints with it. The food was good, hot, well stocked and well presented. There is an endless beverage area, when you come in. So now, when you buy any drink, all refills are free. The selection is greatly expanded. We had strawberry smoothies! (Try also mango, a really nice juice selection and milkshakes) I also want to mention the soft serve ice cream....birthday cake, chocolate, strawberry, cookies and cream, peanut butter and others...soft serve!! cool I think I'm getting stingier with my 5 stars these days! But for a GC, I'm newly interested in returning. And my daughter asked me 10 times, when we would return. lol Today, they earned a solid 4 stars. My guest and I met up here because frankly we couldn't decide on what exactly we were hungry for and since we hadn't met up in a while this had a little of everything. I've had mixed experiences at Golden Corrals all over the state. Some decent, some bad and some outright horrible. With so many people hovering over, talking over, coughing over, double dipping in and kids likely burrowing fingers into each food dish you seriously run the risk of intestinal discomfort before you make it home. Because of my experiences I generally go into each GC with gritted teeth and battling the lingering urge to Flee, Fat-ass Flee! Getting drinks and paying for the meal. Painless. Getting a table. Painless. Passing two servers who actually took a moment to welcome us in with what seemed like actually genuine smiles? Ok. Good start. Server's name is Megan and I watched her flit like a social butterfly from table to table and even going so far as to admonish departing guests that they weren't allowed to abandon her so easily. Ok. Better start. I stuck with the basics for this meal. Steak, mashed potatoes w/gravy, green beans, corn, mac'n'cheese and a few varied sides. Not only were the sides on point but the steak was the most pleasant surprise of the night (besides Megan). Previous experiences with ANY meats served at a GC involves a level of dry compared only to the Sahara and a texture/taste of saliva mixed with some grit of sand. This time I kid you not this steak was done exactly as I requested it. Medium Rare. And juicy. Picture the Matrix movie.... Cypher, eating a steak while sitting with Agent Smith inside the Matrix. "The Matrix is telling your brain that the steak is juicy and delicious." Yes, yes it was. Not too shabby of a visit. The people at my job like coming to this place for any kind of celebration. The idea is that theres something here for everybody. Im not convinced thats the case. Look, theres not much too this place. Its overpriced at like $15 a person. They trick you into thinking thats a good value because its a buffet, but think about it. When is the last time you spent $10 on a meal and walked away hungry? Portions are huge at restaurants anyway, especially here in the south. You may eat 3 plates of food but its not actually bigger than a burger and fries from somewhere else crappy like applebees. The only real good thing here is the sides. From tbe potatos to the mac and cheese. I could eat that all day. It doesnt taste fresh at all, but still good in that processed as hell way. The bad is everything else. The meats are generally dry, just due to the nature of buffets. They sit under heat lamps for long stretches of time. You're not allowed to refill your own drink. The bussers do that, which results in a confusing tipping dilemma. The desserts are sub par. This GC in particular tries to sell froyo as ice cream. Do they think people won't notice? There was a bug on the cornbread. There was a bug in the fruit. The food was uncooked, discolored, rolls were hard and too much butter. Really didn't feel like Golden Corral at all. As a food appreciator I had really like the theme and idea of Golden Corral. Now believe me I don't expect gourmet, but geez please keep areas clean. It should be a priority ! There was salad dressings that people had spilled that oozed into the nearby dressing, specifically the white ranch into the Italian which turned me off. There was some attention needed at that salad bar as people were requesting refills of various food items there. This was the second time I went there this week. And both lunch times they ran out of chicken fingers. I just like them with my salad and I was annoyed that from my paid receipt at 12:17 to 12:45 that a half ripped chicken finger was all that remained there. So I asked my bubbly server to see the manager and she was curious of the nature and I explained it had nothing to do with her but the food station. She indicated she had to finish her round and summon I believe his name was Len. Now I am a reasonable guy and explained about my two visits, and he said he would straighten it out. He also came up with some lame excuse that the frying guy had to come to that area away from the other fried food. He said , " well I guess you come here often, so I will remember your face as I know what to look for" or something very similar to that. No Len! I'm came to this Golden Corral to have a variety of choices to eat from and the food isn't even fully cooked, they have poor service, very dirty, and don't have much of a variety. I paid $60 for four people to only had one plate and were already disgusted by the place and didn't like the food. A few hours later we started feeling sick over the food . What can I say my families favorite place to eat. Only place that my husband, three kids, and I can all go and get something we love. Best golden corral in the triangle and we have eaten all most of them. Staff is amazing and managers seem to love their jobs. Chocolate fountain need i say any more. Only thing that could be better is a driveway right off Wilmington St, but not a big deal just stay in right lane after strayer we drove by first time we went. $32 for a family of five on a Saturday!!!!!!! The reason I'm giving this place 5 stars is because of the staff, especially a waiter named Bob. He was such a sweetheart and took great care of not only us but all other tables as well. He genuinely treated every table with respect and did his best to provide exemplary service. It was so unexpected that I could meet someone as down to earth as Bob. What is it with following basic health guides here in North Carolina, first off the food was kept out way too long, dried up pasta, half cooked pizza, raw fish, empty food trays that stayed that way for the hour we were there, then the biggest problem is cooks going to tables with there gloves on shaking hands, picking up babies and running their hand thru their hair and then going back to work without changing their gloves. The only reason I stayed there was to see if he changed his gloves. This places was a great disappointment and I will never set foot in again.
