The noodles sit over their special sauce at the bottom, so once you mix everything together, every single strand gets coated in that sweet, savory goodness. It comes loaded with a delicious mix of meats, plus a side of fresh veggies and a pork bone soup for dipping or sipping alongside. The broth was hot, flavorful, and comforting, while the noodles had that perfect texture. And somehow... after THREE YEARS, it tastes the same--if not BETTER. I actually really enjoyed how simple and comforting this dish was. The pork chop was nicely done, and the shredded pork skin added a good texture. The only thing that threw me off was the salted egg yolk--it was VERY subtle and honestly didn't have much flavor at all. I was expecting that salty, rich egg-yolk punch, but she was definitely playing shy. Still a solid dish overall and came with a nice little bowl of soup on the side. And can we talk about the renovation?! After three years, I walked in and was like... EXCUSE ME, WHO IS SHE?! The restaurant has been completely renovated and has such a much nicer, modern ambience compared to what I remember from years ago. It feels fresh, clean, and welcoming while somehow still keeping that familiar feeling of the OG spot. Service: Super quick! We were seated immediately around 5:30 PM, and our food came out in less than 8 minutes. Everything arrived hot, fresh, and ready to eat. Honestly, I'm SO glad I gave this place another try. The food here is bomb. There's a reason why they get so much traffic in and out of the restaurant: great value and great taste! They're getting big enough that they are expanding next door in the same plaza, stay tuned for that one! I tried their pork plate along with the Cornish Hen. I don't recommend the Cornish Hen, it was super dry and took way too long to make. The other dishes are good as well as the sides. Each side is good enough on its own, but the balance of freshness and clean (feels healthy but oh so tasty ). Would keep coming here, just avoid the Cornish Hen! Maybe will try again if they change the recipe or something. The food here is great and prices are reasonable. We got seated around 15 minutes before closing due to being 7th in queue which has boring grind with the rating. Main concern was the hairs we found in our food. When scooping out sauce, there was a hair that was in the chili oil jar. It was quite long and wavy and was mixed into the chili flakes. When we picked up the spoon, we saw it and pulled the hair out from between the clump.. I didn't take a picture at first excusing that it happens since it's a public condiment. However, I did take a picture of the second hair. I ordered the signature Pho and after a few bites, as I pulled up more noodles, I saw this quite long and kind of gross hair entangled in my noodles. Hopefully it's not from where I think it came from but as a guy, the shape and texture of this hair doenst look like it comes off your head. This being in the soup that comes from the kitchen and is most likely shared by anyone who orders pho is a bit off putting. We did not complain since it was closing time already by the time we got our food and I didn't want to hold them up any longer. First time trying this place in lieu of pho 79 while visiting socal and this place did NOT dissappoint! Ordered their pho dac biet on this hot day (which was a big mistake) but honestly worth it. Visited here for dinner on a Thursday evening. They were busy even on a weekday with a wait list. Thankfully the wait was only about 10-15 min before we got seated. My favorite Vietnamese restaurant in SGV hands down. For those that don't want to make the long trip to OC, this place delivers on flavor, quality, and variety. The portions can feed two people and the staff is on top of it. Took my Vietnamese family from OC for dinner once and my picky mom said it's better than a couple of restaurants in OC. If she can say that then I know it's very good haha. Stopped by for dinner this past Monday and it was incredibly busy but the wait went quick. I have yet to branch out of the pho/hu tieu/com tam sections yet but I seen banh hoi and bun bo hue from other tables and they look delicious. Makes me want to go back already! I remembered coming here with my mom when I was a kid and am kind of amazed that it has survived and thrived all these years later. Since this is still one of my mom's favorite casual restaurants (says a lot since she's a tough customer), I decided to make two consecutive visits on a Friday morning right when they open at 10 a.m. They already had a good amount of people dining in, and they turnover the tables quickly. I got their Bun Rieu (no pork blood & half vermicelli) and a single egg roll my first time back and it was the biggest bowl I've ever been served. It was delicious and they do not skimp on the protein. I love how they gave me a boatload of proper Vietnamese veggies/herbs and fermented shrimp paste alongside it. Most Vietnamese restaurants nowadays serve bastardized versions of a veggie/herb plate with their soup noodles to appease a devolved palette. Second time I was here, I got their dry combination egg & tapioca soy sauce noodles with the soup on the side and an order of a single egg roll. Man, do I miss this dish especially when it is served authentically. The bowl came with shrimps, thinly sliced pork, ground pork, a fried shrimp crisp, & quail eggs. But the flavor bomb comes from bits of fried shrimp, bacon fat, & shallots. Pro tip: balance the sweetness of the soy sauce noodles with the pickled jalapeños within their condiment array. The bowl of soup that this comes with is a whole other meal with a giant pork bone (how it is traditionally served) and a bunch of fish cake in it. This is a favorite com tam restaurant of someone in our group. We went on Thursday evening and met up for an early dinner before this place got too busy for our group of 8. There is a small parking lot behind and in front of the restaurant but there are plenty of free street parking if all the spaces are taken. Orders were taken and we were given a small basket of little buttery croissants too enjoy while we waited for our food to arrive. Portions are large. They are known for their broken rice (com tam) so that was what I had ordered. It arrived on a platter! The pork chop was juicy and tender. Everything was good. My family has been coming here for what feels like two decades, and it's one of those places that just keeps doing its thing well. Over the years they've really stepped it up too from a nonfuzzy hole in the wall place back in its hay days. You can tell by how busy it is pretty much any time of day. I always go for the broken rice plates. The steamed egg cake still comes with that nice yolk in the middle, and everything is served on big plates and bowls that actually get filled. The portions are generous, and not just for show. The meats are flavorful, and the shredded pork has that slightly dry, fluffy texture that tastes housemade and really satisfying. Service is quick, which I appreciate in this crowded strip mall restaurant. They clearly keep things well prepped in the kitchen, so food and water cups come out fast even when it's packed. My family's favorite place for Vietnamese food. I will rave about this place until the day I die. It is very popular with the local Vietnamese crowd, and they serve pretty authentic dishes. Obviously you can order in English, but be prepared as it is not a super streamlined experience catering to non-Vietnamese guests. Immerse yourself and prepare for great food. Their eggrolls are made of rice paper which makes for a lighter and airy-er crisp. They are my absolute favorite. I enjoy them in the bun thit nuong cha gio. I absolutely NEED to eat this every time I visit the area. The portions here are enormous so feel free to share. Other stand out items are the banh beo and the com tam/broken rice dish with everything on it. The com tam is to order, so you can feel free to pick out whatever individual elements you like and just order it as com tam with item1 item2 item3 so on. The best imo are the suon nuong/grilled pork chop, bi or shredded pork, and the cha or crispy meatloaf. Each com tam dish comes with of course a mountain of broken rice, pickled veggies, fatty green onions, and a fish sauce based dipping sauce. They also have pandan waffles at the counter which I love. Went to Com Tam Kieu in San Gabriel today for lunch and ordered the number 34 com tam bi cha bo nuong tau hu ky which is broken rice with shredded pork, egg with crab, charbroiled beef and bean curd skin. They are known for their broken rice so make sure to order that if you come here. It really comes down to what type foods you like along side your rice as all the plates are customizable. If they have that item you want, you can always ask them to add it on top of your order. The meats have a nice charred taste to it and everything goes well with fish sauce. I like to add chili to my fish sauce for a touch of spice. The plate comes with a couple cucumbers and pickled carrot and daikon. Each rice plate comes with a bowl of soup as well for you to start off. My friends and I ordered the banh beo which are mini rice cakes topped with shredded shrimp and I believe mung bean paste and fish sauce. The rice cakes were soft and loaded with plenty of toppings on top. You add some fish sauce and try to slurp it up in one gulp. My friends and I came on Wednesday at 1:30pm and there was about a 20 minute wait which was odd. They have plenty of tables inside but the parking lot is small. We were able to find street parking and you can always check the back for parking as well. Average price per plate is about $15 which is not too bad as it is a pretty large plate. Because the portion was pretty big for a couple of us, we had to take our food to go! Always love when we get a second meal from our first meal. We got their banh beo appetizer and their egg roll. Good between 4 people to share. I liked how they added the veggies to your egg roll to eat with the fish sauce. Good crunch and flavor. The banh beo was good too, it was just a little too sticky where it made it hard to grab the whole piece without ruining it x) it was only available for dine-in! I forgot to take a photo sadly :( service was decent, they are quick to grab your order, and are pretty busy running around that sometimes it was hard to wave them down! They're pretty attentive when you're finishing up so they start cleaning up your table as you're boxing your food and paying. This is one of the most authentic Vietnamese cuisines in SGV. Our first time here on a Saturday early evening for dinner and the restaurant was busy with people waiting outside. We even saw a couple of outdoor tables with people enjoying their meals. We didn't have to wait more than 15 minutes for a table for 4. We had recommendations to try the appetizers of steamed rice cakes, broken rice dishes and dry noodles served w/ a side of bone broth soup. The bone broth soup was warming and full of flavor. My husband wasn't a big fan of the steamed rice appetizers but he really liked the dry noodles with grilled chicken and the soup. All of the dishes were very tasty and satisfying. If you have not tried this restaurant yet, it is worth the visit. The price is not like you would find in Vietnam, but the food was delicious & authentic. read more

So yummy! This was the first time I've had Com Tam Kieu and this is a definite come back. My family and I ordered take-out since we usually pass by and notice a long line. It was easy to order! You can just call them and let them know what you want to order. It took about 20ish minutes for our order to be done. They have a small parking lot in front and street parking. The egg rolls are perfectly fried and the filling inside is still juicy. I had the Banh Hoi w/ Beef, Bean Curd, and Eggroll. The beef was so tender and flavorful. I also had a bite of the Bun Rieu and OH WOW was the soup so flavorful. My dad had the red rice w/ cornish hen and the hen was pretty generous in size. I heard their broken rice is very popular, so I ordered #30 which came with pork chop, shredded pork, steamed egg and shrimp paste, along with some pickled veggies and side of soup. It was delicious. The rice is a bit dry but I think that's how it is, but when you eat it with the side of soup it comes with its perfect. The rice soaks up the soup very well. Great combo! Or drench it in their fish sauce which was good. Their steamed egg was so flavorful, the best thing on the plate. Next time I'll skip the charred beef, it was on the drier side. I much prefer the pork chop which was surprisingly more softer and juicy. I'd skip #35, just get the #30 combo. I ordered to go, came on a Monday afternoon and it was packed.
