I ordered two dishes & sweet dessert: Curry Chicken Casserole & Pork with Mixed Vegetable. Nice vibe, good service & delicious foods. Will go again! 我點了兩道菜和甜點:咖哩雞肉砂鍋和什錦蔬菜豬肉。氛圍和服務很好,食物也很美味。還會再去!

Minute chicken cake noodle Monday special

Service is fast. Very old school. Casual, come as you are place. My dad used to take me when they were on McCully Street small kid time. Even Tin tin chop suey by Wo Fat in Chinatown for kup dae jook( rice soup) which no longer exists. Roast duck wun tun mein is my favorite here. Hubs likes their stewed or steamed duck noodle. Not on the menu but they make my order, SO good. The soup comforts you like a warm hug. Always busy, lots of take out too. They have an arsenal of preserved fruits, seeds, peanut candy, shrimp chips and more in front of the register. They have daily specials and their menu is vast. I tasted a piece of hub's cake noodle and it was good. The benefits of getting old? You have left overs to supplement another meal. An added bonus? They don't charge extra for tea. Great for coming with long time friends or close family cuz it's plain, simple, good food served here. Glad they have surpassed the test of time.

The perfect remedy for a cold night. Wor shrimp won ton meinhas egg noodles Chinese cabbage sliced pork choy sum shrimp won ton. Soup came out hot a very large bowl Reminds me of ting yin chop suey style where lee's bakery. Enough for 2 people .Water and tea refilled it you need it.

Our siblings got together to discuss our brother's passing and what transpired with plans. We had time to catch up with each other, really connecting. Steamed fish, black mushroom and Choi sum,Shrimp Fried Rice, chow mein, garlic Chinese broccoli, beef broccoli, pork and string beans, minute chicken, honey walnut shrimp, and fried shrimp. All the food had different textures, flavorful, savory, and sweet. Staff was very nice and took three people that helped bring all the dishes out. The restaurant big round tables were all taken that seats ten customers. We reserved ours day before...good thing! It wasn't noisy for a Chinese restaurant.

    Whole Roasted Turkey (for Thanksgiving)

Among our favorites here are the Peking Duck w/ Buns and Ong Choy w/ Garlic. Perhaps differently from others, we use the ong choy instead of the included green onions as a garnish for the buns and duck. Last Thanksgiving was the first time we ordered their Whole Roasted Turkey. We liked it so much that we did it again this year. I had ordered the turkey for pick up at opening time. A few others who had pre-ordered were there before me, and several others arrived after I did. We invited a guest for Thanksgiving lunch, and the three of us enjoyed the turkey with the included gravy. It could be that the taste was even better this year. For dessert, we had Whole Foods pumpkin pie topped with whipped cream. We all enjoyed this special lunch and the time together to reconnect. My wife is saving the bones and some skin and meat to make the broth for "tteok guk" (Korean mochi soup).

Today's service was glacial to say the least. Invited to a graduation celebration is my only reason for coming to Golden Duck . Gone are the days when GD on McCully was a popular Chinese restaurant with flavorful food and good service .Today's service was neither fast or friendly. Our party of nine had to constantly flag the server. Had to wait for utensils, water , hot tea. and food. Hope you have a better experience at this restaurant Enjoy

Went to lunch and decided to try the lunch plate. The noodles had lots of fresh vegetables and some noodles. But it was very tasty. The roast pork was okay, but little on the dry side, the sweet sour spare ribs were good. Server was nice and service was fast and quick.

Chicken & choy sum on cake noodle

The iconic Golden Duck Chinese Restaurant was opened in 1946 at McCully and So King sts by Bung Ghin Leong and wife Alice Young. The Leongs sold the restaurant to Eddie Lam in 1947 (who also owned Red Rooster Chop Suey at Piikoi and Young sts.) and operated it well into the 1960's and 1970's before he died in 1975. The restaurant moved into the former Bakery Kapiolani site where it stands now in Makiki at King and Piikoi sts. Its new owner at that time was Pat Arakaki (who later owned Golden Eagle Chinese Restaurant), who then sold the restaurant to Aaron Fang, who currently operates it today. Golden Duck initially served authentic Hong-Kong style Cantonese cuisine and has since adapted it to local tastes and is considered an old-school Chinese restaurant. As many of these old-school Chinese restaurants have disappeared due to the owners retiring, Golden Duck continues to serve old-time dishes, such as stewed duck noodle in soup, roast duck wor mein, and stuffed duck that other restaurants do not have. Golden Duck's menu offerings are extensive and include: appetizers, soup, sizzling platters, seafood, casseroles, pork/beef, chop suey, poultry, daily specials and plates, eggs, vegetarian, rice soup, rice, noodles in soup, and noodles. Some of our favorites include: * (Anything) over cake noodles. Lots of variety, including minute chicken, chicken with black mushrooms and snow peas, chicken with veggies, seafood with veggies, roast duck, oyster sauce chicken. The cake noodles are egg noodles that are light in color, boiled, then pan fried into crispy thick squares, and drenched in savory thick gravy with stir-fried veggies and meats. The crispy edges add a nice texture to the dish. I've had various toppings to the cake noodles with veggies fresh, crunchy and vibrant in color; and all are delicious! A note, however, re the minute chicken over cake noodles, which is Monday's special. The minute chicken in this special is bone-in chicken pieces only. As I prefer boneless chicken, I would need to order this from the regular menu for a few dollars more. * Peking duck in bun. The quality of this dish is exceptionally delicious, and is of the same caliber as offered by other Chinese restaurants. The steamed bun is filled with green onion slices, hoi sin sauce, and crispy duck skin, with the remainder of the boned-in duck served separately. * Stewed duck noodle in soup. An old-school favorite that has slowly disappeared from local restaurants. A quarter of a duck is served with noodles, won bok, and black mushrooms in a soup broth. The duck meat flavor seeps into the broth, giving it a flavorful taste to this filling noodle dish. While I have yet to try the lunch or dinner plates, they are very popular, and you can sub certain items for others. Portions for all dishes are generous, prices are reasonable, and most of the menu offerings are delicious, although a few items may need additional ingredients and spices to enhance their flavors. When our son recently visited from Toronto, he requested to eat at Golden Duck. Not sure why, but my guess is that he missed his favorites from this restaurant while growing up here. Long-time staff employees are friendly and willing to make subtle changes to your orders. They are efficient, bringing you the necessary plates and utensils, refilling your water glasses, promptly serving your orders, and processing your payments. The restaurant always seems to be busy with locals, many of whom are multi-generational, who have visited the restaurant over many years. The L-shaped dining area is spacious, with the front area consisting of round tables for groups and booths in the back. The restaurant is clean and bright, although one of the booths near the cashier is used for take-outs with empty boxes packed for takeout usage. The area has some Chinese décor and a display of rubber duckies, as a reflection to its restaurant name. There is an area of Chinese dried seeds, candies, shrimp chips, and snacks from Sing Cheong Yuan Bakery. Note that the Fang family not only owns Golden Duck Restaurant, but also Sing Cheong Yuan Bakery, where the snacks come from. They also own New Mui Kwai Chinese Restaurant in Kailua and Kaneohe, as well as the Crack Seed Center in Kaimuki. Hours of operation are daily from 10:30a to 9:00p. Located next to a Texaco gas station in Makiki, limited free parking is available near the restaurant's front entrance; additional parking on residential side streets. A truly iconic, old-school Chinese restaurant that most locals can relate to, and hoping that the restaurant continues to offer their dishes for many more years to come! Support local!

Char Siu Fried Rice for days. ..
    Michael R.

Golden Duck is our go-to for delicious Chinese food with large portions and reasonable prices. Parking in the back and street after 6p too. Nice servers bring you hot tea as well, perfect for this food. We love the shrimp canton, char siu fried rice, wor wonton min, beef and broccoli and crispy gau gee cake noodle. This is Chinese food that is comforting, filling and satisfying. They do plenty take out too. You hungry? You won't be after grinding at Golden Duck, guarens get leftovers!

Ono Cantonese dishes. All the dishes are flavorful. Their gau chee are a good size with generous filling. I especially like the 8 ingredient e mein (bat chun e mein, photo) or if you prefer soup and seafood, wor seafood mein. Comfort food like pork hash is delicious, and special dishes like stuff duck are done well. Highly recommended.

We came here for my nephew's birthday, and had an amazing experience. The server was really nice and patient as we took our time deciding what dishes we wanted. He was also understanding when we added additional items to our order. We ended up getting beef broccoli, beef chow fun, crispy gau gee, crispy gau gee mein, egg foo young, crispy pork chop, shrimp canton, fried chicken, roast duck, fried rice, and white rice. Our food came out perfectly hot and in a timely manner. Everything was absolutely delicious!

A couple of co-workers drive down to have their haircuts near Golden Duck, so they pick up lunch afterward. I've always ordered the Dinner Plate: Fried rice, beef broccoli, ginger chicken, sweet sour spareribs and two crispy wonton. It's enough food for two meals, or just one if I'm ravenous. $16.12, including tax. Recommended!

The sides had larger tables for larger parties. The tables felt pretty close together but we enjoyed the stool/bench chairs we sat on. They were different than what we are used to in restaurants. Our order was taken quickly. We decided to get the beef chow fun, yang chow fried rice, and cheong fun. The cheong fun was good, especially after adding hoisin sauce. The texture was soft and the portion was quite decent. The chow fun was also yummy. It was tasty without being overbearing. The fried rice was our favorite. What a blessing that was as I was impressed with the food quality and attention to detail. There were many star dishes that impressed me and luckily had the honor to pack up the leftovers which I ended up sharing with family. They raved over the food from KRB, so I suggested we come here for dinner. To play it safe I called ahead and made a reservation for a round table as I tend to order an array of different dishes. To our surprise, KRB wasn't busy that weekday evening with both private dining rooms occupied and only one other table of 4 during our arrival. I asked the family what they wanted to eat and because they are big eaters who also enjoy leftovers, our initial food order consisted of 9 different dishes that included doubling up both noodle orders. Overall, our meal was above average with family favorites of tofu casserole that was so delicious that I ended up getting another one. The seafood crispy noodles were also phenomenal as it was executed well with great texture contrast and finesse in flavors. Personally I enjoyed the free range chicken with ginger onion sauce and the sautéed lamb with leeks. We also appreciated the complimentary dessert of chilled coconut milk tapioca. Service was above average as the staff were attentive to our needs and exchanged plates halfway during our dinner. The only setback for me was the ambiance as it was semi dark and dingy. The interior could use an upgrade. Recent returned visits to KRB is truly deserving of 5-stars from me. The food exceeded my expectations where it was worthy to drag my family here and have concluded KRB is deserving to be included in our rotation of restaurants to patronize.
