Janine, the trans-dermal mixer of the batches and Allen the pharmacist should be removed for incompetence leading to the direct suffering of animals which is animal abuse. This is a legitimate warning to all pet owners. Do not trust their compounding of trans-dermal. We realize now our pet suffered greatly for an entire year. We are now buying the med in pill form from an online provider of the name brand made for pets. Out pet has experience a COMPLETE turn around since, BECAUSE it's the right guaranteed dose. Our vet's office staff told us their clients are experiencing issues as well with golden gate pharmacy in Marin. It's the ANIMALS that are suffering. How many other pets are suffering right now and owners and vets don't understand why they are declining as they assume their pet is receiving the right trans-dermal dose? OK, I'm back in good terms with GGVCP again. LOL. I found out there is a problem with the vet's phones/fax system and they did not call it in when they said it was. But, this Atenolol transdermal ear gel is a 15-day supply and was costing $46.92 every 15 days. I wondered why there are not more days in there and GGVCP told me that is how the vet wrote it up. But, the latest shipment came in and Fed Ex had it sitting in a warehouse for 3 days....and it took 4 days to get here (two days were the weekend) so I will do USPS First Class Mail before I go through this nightmare. I noticed it has SIX refills. Saskia told me she can do ALL six refills in ONE shipment...so it is a 90-day supply. She said that this 90-day supply will only be $83.60 + tax! So, let's say $88 vs $246 this other way. I asked her why it is cheaper? She said because it is a bigger order. I guess we as customers should know this. I remember back in 2013, I had to get injectable Pepcid Ac for a kitty with CRF and I got this huge vial for $12 at Walgreens and it lasted months! At the vet, it would have been over $300/month! So, do you research first. Now, I have to figure out how to cancel an order our vet placed with this online pharmacy for an Atenolol suspension that costs $72/month. The place turns out to be Wedgewood Pharmacy in NJ and I've known about them since 2017. Horrible reviews... people not getting their prescriptions for 30 days and being told they were sent and they aren't. Hours on the phone.... no thank you. I remember in 2018, the Fed Ex Express guy delivered this package with "Methimazole (hyperthyroid) transdermal ear gel" for another kitty. I went out to get it and it had arrived only 10 mins before, The bottom was cut off the envelope and the gel pens were not in there. GGVCP sent out a new refill right away and filed a claim with Fed Ex. So, they are good again as long as the vet and them communicate another way other than Faxes. read more

I love love love Golden Gate Pharmacy. Their service is always really prompt and their customer service is amazing. They always have everything I need for my cats and dogs - and even offer yummy flavor options on all of their compounded meds. Having a dog in heart failure and a nationwide shortage of Vetmedin was really freaking me out - but now I just get her Vetmedin from GG, in the exact right dose and in a bacon flavor she loves. read more

This place is absolutely terrible. My vet recommended them for a prescription my Cat needed. The first time I talked to them to place my order I got a real person. They took down my credit card number and shipped it to me within 2 days. All was peachy until I called the second time. No one picked up, just a voice mail. I kept calling back to get a refill and got no one. I finally caved in and left a voice mail saying my prescription number and that I needed a refill for my cat, and to call me up to get my payment information. No one ever called me back but in 3 days I had a package on my door step. Apparently they kept my credit card information on file without asking my permission, and just sent it to me without confirming the shipping method or the price. This is actually illegal. I called up and asked them to take my credit card information off of their records and the next month I called for a refill. Same deal - no answer, just voice mail. Left message and 3 days later a package that was paid for. This went on and on for months. Finally last week I called to get a refill -- I only had 5 days left on my current stock. Left a message on the voicemail like usual, no one called back -- but this time no medicine. Not sure if they are all high over there when I call back but this is a shady operation. My vet recommended against 1800petmeds so I've since switched to VetCentric in Maryland. It's cheaper and arrives in the same amount of time. read more

We learned last week that one of our cats, Cheddar, is gravely ill with a failing, enlarged, heart. We received a couple of bottles of meds from the vet that he has to take 2x/day. He has always been a skittish cat, and really hates to take any kind of pills. Any time we dosed him, he would spit the pills out. We learned that the pills can be formulated into a liquid, and our vet contacted Golden Gate Pharmacy for us. The people there are very kind, and we decided on a tuna flavor for the liquid. Other choices are salmon and chicken! We received the meds early the next day and were able to successfully get Ched to take it. He still doesn't like it, but it's much easier than trying to shove a pill down his gullet. We love Cheddar very much, and thanks to GGP, hopefully we will have him around a little bit longer. read more

The medication I needed was supposed to be in the refrigerator. It arrived boiling the first time and it was not even summer.. The second time I asked to go (2 hour drive for me) to get it and picked t up. They refused because of their Covid's policy. I asked to leave it outside the door once I get there, which has much less contact than Fedex: they were irremovable. Now my med has NOT arrived overnight and it is 96 outside. Customer service definitely could use some improvement. 3-4 days to refill a prescription is unreasonable and to me an excessive time lapse. Also, I was told a prescription that was ordered as a capsule could be compounded into a liquid. When I picked up the liquid prescription, it was a different strength than if it had been encapsulated. Staff can be rude and can use an attitude adjustment when dealing with the customers who pay their salary. 06/01/15 - Just got off the phone with this company and have lowered my review from 2 to 1 star. All this AND does veterinary compounding for animals. If you have a pet that is difficult to pill, just have your vet call them and they'll compound a flavored treat with the medicine inside! This is a first rate pharmacy for pets! Having a degree myself in Eastern Natural Medicine and having worked for years in the "Western" medicine world I am far from thrilled to take personally or give to my pets any "drugs"! My cat recently developed IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). She suddenly could no longer tolerate food with multiple proteins. I never fed her grocery store junk food! She always ate top of the line Ultramix by Castor & Pollux with fresh peas, carrots, chicken and vitamins. Until recently, she developed an allergy. My vet, Dr. Magda, at Healthy Pets Vet Clinic in S.F. is a holistic vet and diagnosed her with this new problem. We tried Chinese herbs and her severe diarrhea was just getting worse. I finally broke down and had to follow my instinct and agree that sometimes we do need "drugs" to get back in balance on a short term therapy. I asked her what we can give her along with a new diet? She told me about a pretty new drug called Budesonide. It comes in a liquid form with a small thin plastic syringe. Erik, the pharmacist is the best! He was so patient with me (I was a bit in over drive over all of this) and they made it in tuna flavor. Kasha is so good about taking it in the morning under her tongue. No resistance! Dr. Magda had told me about a one source protein food to try made by Tiki Cat! They also make dog food. The cans are not lined with the white liner that can be linked to BPA's in other cans as well as in our human cans of veggies. etc. The sardines are real (looks like human food) and it is all made in a human plant as opposed to a animal processing plant! Imagine having real Ahi Tuna for breakfast! Both my cats gobble it up and Kasha, literally within 2 days of treatment had a normal stool and looks so much happier! I am finishing the therapy of medicine, of course, but she is doing so much better. The biggest thing that touched my heart was that Friday, after Thanksgiving, Dr. Erik called me at home to see how things were going. I was so touched I almost cried. I told him the good news and he seemed a bit surprised that Kasha reacted so fast and was happy for me and for Kasha. Thank you Dr. Erik and to Dr. Magda for all of your care and support. It is funny, I too use a compounding pharmacy here in S.F. for my needs and the quality is so clean compared to all the fillers in most medicines that have all those side effects you hear about. Golden Gate's staff has been nothing but professional, knowledgeable and courteous throughout my cats new thyroid condition. My vet's office called in a prescription for my cat for a special ear thyroimedication that I apply on my cats ear and it gets absorbed into my cats system. Within 2 hours of the prescription being called in, I received a call from customer service informing me that me vet called in a prescription. The lady on the phone took down my shipping address and payment info and the next day the medication showed up at my door step. The medication came with very clear instructions with pictures and even a glove for me to use when applying the medication. Even through my order came with information about the medication and what to expect, I actually had a question and wanted to speak with the pharmacist. I called golden gate and was able to get through to the pharmacist within 2 minutes! I can't even get ahold of my own pharmacist that fast! The pharmacist was very knowledgeable and answered all my questions. Unfortunately I did not see the sticker on the prescription that stated to order refills 5-7 days in advance until I was calling the pharmacy with 3 days of meds left. They were so fast with my first order that I thought a reorder would be just as fast. When I spoke with the women at customer service I told her that I had not seen the refill sticker that said to order 5-7 days in advance until just then and that I only had 3 days left. She told me "no problem" and that they would expedite the order for me at no additional charge. She also told me that they ask for extra time for refills so that they can make sure and get new orders out the same day so pets can get started on meds right away - which I appreciate since I know I was eager to get my cat started in her Med. My 94 year old mother had laser surgery on her eyes at 10AM today. They sent a prescription to Golden Gate Pharmacy at the same time and the pharmacy confirmed with me then that they had the medication I stick and would deliver it by 5:30 tonight. This medication was for inflammation from the surgery. I told them if they couldn't deliver it we would get it locally but they assured me it would be delivered. It is criminal to not deliver it today as needed. If there is any damage to my mom's eyes they will be sued to the amount possible. Maybe stick to animals instead of humans! read more

Can I just say, that Tia Rocks!! I live in the Sacramento area, and I was having trouble finding the need medication I need for my dog who was very sick and had contracted MRSA. After days of searching and my dog getting worse, I stumbled across Golden Gate, and what a blessing that was. My dog was going to need refills of his medication. My specialty vet gave me a months supply and written prescriptions to fill elsewhere because his clinic charged $$$ for the meds. He knew I had already dropped a BUNDLE on emergency surgery for my beloved dog. (which I would do again in a heartbeat) I searched for a vet pharmacy that could fill the scripts at a more reasonable cost but most places didn't even have the meds listed. Found Golden Gate Veterinary Compounding Pharmacy. Thank God because they had what we needed. I asked to have the full number of pills filled at one time so I could save on shipping. The customer service at this facility was absolutely wonderful! They contacted my vet for approval and shipped the meds quickly. They saved me $541! The service has gone way down hill in the last few years and definitely since they moved to Novato. When I called to get help after a problem, had to follow up 3-4 times with very long hold times. They filled a Med without authorization for my pet. To add insult to injury, my pet died right after and they had also charged me for fed ex shipping also without my consent. Ultimately, I wasted my time and an incorrect charge stood without any adjustments. read more

Great service at an affordable price. What's not to like? After an unfortunate presidential election result, my cat, Frodo, developed a serious hairball issue (who can blame him?). GGPS was quick to fill my px! They also gave me helpful tips on how to administer medication (Frodo is a suspicious fella with a aptness for suspecting that an innocent piece of tuna is in fact the delivery vehicle for his daily multivitamin). I found this out after FedEx delivered my pet's medication to the wrong address, and I contacted GGP, desperate for another shipping option. I am quivering with anger! My husband called in a prescription on Monday and was assured that it would be shipped overnight for delivery on Tuesday. Tuesday came and went, no medicine for our kitty. Wednesday, 4th of July. Thursday, still no medicine. My husband calls back and is told their lab was backed up, and they haven't even shipped it yet, so if I want, I can drive to San Rafael and pick it up, or they can still ship the meds overnight. Oh yeah? Overnight? Like they were going to ship it overnight on Monday? I call and ask WTF?! When I spoke to the manager (admittedly I swore), she turned it around and essentially made it my husband's fault. She said he called too late and that it would have never shipped Monday anyway. Funny, that's not what the girl he spoke to on Monday said. I was told I didn't have my story straight. I pointed out that someone could have called us and told us, so we could have made other arrangements, but she had no defense and spat back at me that they were offering us a discount on shipping. Oh yeah? WOW!! A discount on shipping after we've spent so much money there that I've lost track!? OMG I'M SOOOO EXCITED!! Will you give me a $2 discount for spending 2,000? When I told her she was costing me time and money by telling me to drive to San Rafael from Oakland, she had the nerve to retort that lots of their customers drive from Oakland to Marin. Why, because their prescriptions were never shipped? I should point out that this is not the first time they have done this to my kitty. In fact, this is the second time in 2 weeks, which is why I'm so angry. Fortunately, our vet had those meds on hand and we were able to pick them up. after some location confusion, I managed to find GGPharmacy, I was grateful for them compounding a medication for me same day, calling to ask me about billing, etc...however when I arrived to pick- up my kitty's Methamizole, I was horrified to find out the cost was $51!! I have no issue paying a premium for my pet care, but I have gotten this medication from the exact same type of specialty pharmacy before, every month for the last 2 years, for $16.........that's right $16!!!! I politely asked why the high price and was given a fairly lame, canned answer about the compounding. I stood there, not even sure if I was accepting the correct medicine per the price. I am sick over these people overcharging pet parents for necessary medications,I know from experience this DOES NOT cost as much as they are charging, they know people are going to whatever they have to for their animals and are absolutely taking advantage of that. The consistency of this place has DEFINITELY slipped over the years that we've paid through the nose for all compounds. Minimal customer service, and impatient phone ethics- you have been notified. Most recently, after paying $200 for a compound, it came to us concentrated!! We had to take a day off to go all the way to San Rafael to correct a huge mistake on their part. Towards the end of their lives both kitties had a number of issues that required medications that were custom made for their comfort. The compounds that came in gels made a big difference because I could put the gels on their ears and avoid the pain or discomfort that used to come from trying to get a pill down their throat. Contacted them as a last resort for Vetmedin which has been on backorder for the past couple of months. I have been driving all over Orange County for 10 pills, ordered from several other online services only to be informed days later that the medication was on backorder. I am so glad Dr Carrie Jurney told me about Golden Gate Pharmacy. The people are so friendly and accommodating. Considering the benefits, it is not really very expensive to have medications compounded to suit your pet. The result is an easy to administer, correct dose that the pet doesn't mind taking. Our cat hates pills so she gets her meds in liquid form. GGPS takes orders online or by phone, they get approval from the vet if needed and ship it wherever! If one is stupid and, say, leaves off one of the prescription numbers, they actually CALL to "clarify" the order. Imagine. Professional and prompt. This is the 2nd month in a row this has happened only this time it was much worse. On January 11, 2016 I called Golden Gate to refill my cat'sprescription and confirmed it would be delivered by 5 p.m. on January 18, 2016. Golden Gate confirmed that yes, they would be open that date and the prescription would be delivered to our vet, on the 18th by 5:00 p.m. I called to reconfirm on January 14, 2016 and Golden Gate said yes, they would be open on the 18th and yes, the prescription would be delivered by 5:00 p.m. On January 18 at 4:45 I spoke with our vet and the prescription had not been delivered. I called Golden Gate and they said it would be there by 6. I called the vet back and they said they were told it would be by 5. I went down to the vet to wait for the prescription to be sure I could get it because my cat is dependent on that medication. When they did not arrive by 5:43 p.m. I called to check and got Paulie (who announced she was in training and who had messed up the prescription when I went to place it in December). She said that the medication went out at 10:00 a.m. but she would check to see that it had. She came back on the like at 5:58 p.m. and said it would be at the vet by 6:30. I She went to check (she said) and hung up on me. The pharmacy was closed at that point and I got voicemail when I called back to find out what they would do now that the vet was closed. This medication needs to be refrigerated. It cannot be left sitting outside for over 12 hours. My cat is dependent on this medication to live. This is the second month in a row Golden Gate has not delivered the medication in a timely manner and has had no clue where the medication was. They purportedly cannot reach their driver, have no way of tracking and cannot guarantee that the medication is refrigerated from the time it leaves the pharmacy. Unfortunately they are the only pharmacy that can provide this particular medication. Hanging up on patients, losing prescriptions, not delivering them and sending the wrong medication are unacceptable. According to my vet my case is not unique and they have other patients having the same problems -- or worse -- with Golden Gate. It is my understanding that when my vet's practice manager tried to call the Golden Gate manager she got an announcement that his voicemail was disconnected. Unreturned phone calls, wrong prescriptions, none being delivered is a tremendous concern. read more

So much easier to get my cats' medicine in liquid form and administer it via a dropper vs pill form. I have gotten the fish flavored medicine and while he hates it it doesn't seem like he is quite as horrified as normal. The first shipment I paid the extra and it was delivered the next day. The regular delivery arrives very quickly as well so unless it is emergent I may not pay the extra fees. The only thing I would recommend is to make sure that you have the pharmacy not mark "signature needed for delivery" since I am not home during the day. Even when I signed the back of the delivery slip it specifically says that they won't leave it without a signature. I left a huge sign on my door explaining that this is CAT MEDICINE and that I needed it. Thankfully, the USPS left it but I can see that this could have been problematic. read more

Update: I am changing my review to "I'm a fan", because Jennifer called me back. She admitted that she forgot the chewies, and she offered to have someone drive them over to me today. She also mentioned that there is a form of this medicine that can be rubbed on the cat's ear so i can bypass his mouth entirely. That pleases me much, and she apologized for forgetting and told me I can ask for her next time I have to deal with them, so nobody else can be rude to me. Ask for Jennifer, she is very sweet and knowledgeable. UPDATE I continue to use this pharmacy, I have 6 cats and 2 dogs, and they are always very friendly, they explain what the medicine is and how it works, and they have an option of sending the medicine FedEx overnight, which I love because I don't drive. The are quick to respond and keep me updated via email. I LOVE this place!I missed a call from this pharmacy and called back within half an hour. I listened to idle music for 15 minutes, and was thrown over to voice mail without asking me if that was what I needed. I called back immediately and got someone on the phone. I told the lady my cat is not good with liquids, and she told me she would put a chewy sample in the bag too. I payed $10 for overnight shipping and got the vital medicine the next day. The chews were not there. I called back, and a different lady promised me they would be coming the next day. Didn't happen. I called again and got a terse response. This company is too high maintenance, too expensive and not polite. I felt like I got slapped on the hand for daring to call. I will ask the vet to use a different pharmacy next time. My geriatric cat takes 2 types of medicine every day and I don't need this every month. read more
