Golden Ginger a great addition to Wilmington! The decor is really classy and clean! The staff was extremely helpful and the food was fresh and quick. We got mostly appetizers chicken fingers, wontons, egg rolls, pork fried rice and a few other things. Everything was fresh and flavorful!! I also got the Boston Red Sox sushi roll. I am absolutely stunned by the reviews of this place. I was so excited after reading all of them that I ordered take out the other night. What a disappointment. Let's breakdown what we got. Beef Fried Rice - Completely tasteless. It was like eating small pieces of styrofoam mixed with rubber disguised as meat. White Rice - how can you screw this up? Golden Ginger answered that. Boneless Spare Ribs - Tasteless and criminally over cooked. Chicken fingers - See boneless spare ribs Crab Rangoon - This one pissed me off royally! How can you f%#¥ up crab Rangoon?? It was sweet! Like eating a canoli in Rangoon form! Revolting. The 2 rolls of sushi were good, not great. They were the only thing that didn't suck. I'll give this place one more shot based on the reviews but it better be good or i won't bother again. read more

Earlier this afternoon a few coworkers and I came here to get some sushi and beers (read: a fuckton of sushi and beers) after work. Since it was before the dinner rush we were the only table there aside from 3 or 4 patrons at the sushi bar. I'm not sure what took so long, but it was well over 45 minutes before our sushi came out. Once it arrived, I proceeded to inhale every last ounce of it and I am happy to report that it was tasty. Usually after eating my body weight in dead fish I am useless and no longer lucid for the remainder of the day. Somehow I managed the digestive and mental willpower to run an absurd distance in the only massive snowstorm of this winter (excluding the Halloween snowstravagansa) immediately after getting home. Oh, and since GG is conveniently located next door to Advanced Auto Parts, I was able to pick up some RainX windshield wiper fluid after dinner. I've gone here three times for sit-down lunches and dinners. You wouldn't guess from the logo and sign on the outside that it looks so classy inside! The seating and decor is very attractive, and the entire restaurant was impressively clean. All the staff I interacted with each time were friendly and full of excellent recommendations! I've only eaten their sushi and a few appetizers, so I can't say much about their main dishes. However, the sushi is made with delicious and fresh ingredients. You can't beat the 2-for-1 price specials during lunch either. A few of the sushi rolls are priced a bit high, but in general the prices are very affordable. I'm always impressed by how attractively the food is presented! This is a great place to take friends, family, and coworkers. My only note would be that sometimes the temperature runs a little chilly, so perhaps bring a sweater. read more

Wow! Golden Ginger's food is excellent. Love their sushi. The Golden Dragon has to be my favorite. Their food is always warm and delicious, honestly anything on the menu is great. I been here a few times, and did take out a few more times. Every time I dine here, the experience had been bad. The atmosphere here is loud and annoying. The service is slow and non responsible. Take out had been a more enjoyable experience. The food is decent, nothing amazing. Price is on the pricey end for average tasting sushi. But the selection is pretty extensive. If you are trying to impress anyone, avoid this place, but if you want something and can't decided where, this would be a good choice. And I definitely recommend take out over dine in. read more

When Golden Ginger first came to Wilmington it was excellent. But if you have any allergies or special diet needs, not the place to eat. They are very uneducated about this area. All they offer is the steam dinners. They didn't even have gluteen free soy sauce until we requested. The rest of my family can eat there without a problem and their meal is ok. Now I know that it was an accident, but there was NO apology from the girl at the front (who has been there for years!!) the new girl she was training was so vocal and apologies profusely. After waiting for 15 minutes, I asked how much long. The unapologetic girl went back to ask the owner and I got the response of "he doesn't know, it's really busy." I am obsessed with Golden Ginger. I have never ordered anything I didn't absolutely love. I have gotten take out, but I prefer to eat there and enjoy their drink specials! The scorpion bowls and the mai tai's are my fave! I love the sushi and the chinese food is delicious too. There is hardly ever a wait and the service is great! The prices are affordable and they give you free wonton chips while you wait for your food, what more can you ask for!? We have been coming here for over a year and this place has been very welcoming in the beginning. After the past few times, the food, service and management have been atrocious! The chicken pad Thai has a foul smell and taste to it. We sent it back and did not want to pay for this dish. When the manager came over, he asked "well haven't you ordered it before?" I have worked 15 years in the restaurant industry; How dare the owner/manager argue with the customer!!! How dare you accuse the customer is wrong!!! This is the only good place around town for sushi and we will not be coming back. I am not pleased at all with Golden Ginger. This was my first time eating their food and it's going to be my last. I got the spicy tuna rolls and the first few pieces were okay, not the best I've ever had, but when I got to the last piece, I picked it up and immediately wanted to puke. It was soggy!! The bottom was completely soaked and looked all white, unlike the top of that piece where it looked "normal". I have never ever had a soggy piece of sushi before. Not even from Market Basket! I have reviewed this place before, but I wanted to do an update and say that the food has gotten really excellent and very consistent. The sushi is very good. Maybe one time out of ten it seems like there's a different sushi chef and it's not quite as good, but for sushi in Wilmington, MA, I think that it's about as good as you can get! Their green salad is delicious; the dressing is the best part. They have excellent lunch specials too. It's a good amount of food for the money. Sushi is a funny thing for me. For a long time, I only got it from a little hole in the wall that now is no longer there. So I needed to find a new sushi place, but often the rice is the wrong size, or something else is not quite right. I'm a bit picky about sushi to the point that I'll go without if I can't get great sushi. What a pleasant surprise that I was finally able to find a place that makes great sushi rolls consistently and is right down the road from me!! I've only ate in one time so can't really comment too much on that other than that it was fine. It's a very nicely decorated, modern design, so visually appealing with easy parking. We get carry out almost every week and they never fail to come through with excellent rolls. We are rather boring getting "vanilla" rolls, such as the California roll, Alaska roll, Tuna roll and the American Dream - the shrimp tempura roll. Their Romance roll (sweet potato) is also awesome. I have no doubt that all of their other sushi/sushimi offerings would be of the same quality. (I'm getting hungry just writing about them!) I'm not a miso soup person, but my daughter goes nuts over their miso soup. She says they have the best ever. So if you're looking for great sushi, either eat in or take out, I'd give this place a shot. read more

We received a menu from Golden Ginger in the mail, and after viewing the other reviews on Yelp, I thought it would be a good place for us to try. The restaurant is very clean and modern looking, although it's a little bit on the dark side for lighting. Staff was extremely nice, very attentive. The menu is extensive. I decided on the Japanese Hibachi Chicken - including brown rice, soup and salad. My husband ate the salad, and I was thrilled with the hot & sour soup! I am dying to go back just for the soup! My hibachi chicken was delicious too. I couldn't believe how much chicken pieces were in the dish, and the veggies were cooked perfectly (al-dente). The brown rice was one of the best I have had as well. My husband had his usual Chinese fave, General Gau's and he enjoyed it very much. At a lot of other restaurants, you get a bunch of dark and white meat chicken thrown together; at Golden Ginger, they appeared to use all white meat. I have never tried sushi, but from what everyone else has said, it is probably a good place to start, since it's fresh! We will return again for sure! read more

I went here on a Saturday night at around 7pm. The waitstaff was very attentive and helpful but not overbearing. The food quality was above average for a Japanese restaurant and we didn't wait long at all for our meals. The drinks are cheap and better than what many other places offer. The atmosphere is also a nice change from your traditional mid-80's looking Japanese restaurant. I'm not really sure why but there weren't many people there at all - I would have figured a Saturday night would be prime time. The Golden Ginger is as good as they come. I am a frequent visitor, going up to 3 or 4 times some weeks. I've tried a decent amount of the menu and I have to say that everything I've had has been fantastic. Their Wonton soup is delicious. Their sushi is fresh and always good. Tuna and Beef Tataki is incredible. Also, their drinks are great as well. They have the old reliable Zombies, Scorpion Bowls, and Mai Tais which are all great. They also have others such as Perfect Storm, Tokyo Tea, Love Potion, and they even make margaritas which were surprisingly very good. The staff is excellent as well. Very friendly and attentive. My friends and I have gotten to know one of the waiters, Alan, and everytime we go he's there to greet us with a smile and he is always on top of things. Even if he isn't out waiter, he still drops by our table to make sure everything is good. Basically, you can't go wrong at the Golden Ginger. Great food, great drinks, and great people. read more

The manager has been extremely helpful with gluten free choices, both over the phone for takeout and also while my friends and I are dining in. Ordered take-out for the first time from GG based on some recommendations on a Sunday night. They don't offer any kind of "dinner plate" options which is inconvenient as my wife and I like different things usually, they only have regular sized dishes for sharing. The prices seem about right for chinese take-out and the portions we got were good. The food itself was under-whelming. It tasted alright but kind of bland. We ordered the sesame chicken and it definitely seemed like we were eating General's chicken based on the spices but even that wasn't really memorable. The next day my wife and I both felt pretty bleh from the food, not food poisoning by any stretch but whatever they use to cook with or how they prep it apparently left us less than 100%. Lack of appetite, gastro-related discomfort, that sort of thing. Seemed like a nice enough place but we're probably not looking for a second try with them. read more

Love the Ging! We go here all the time. One of my favorites is the Maki combo. Great value and you get a ton of food. I also highly recommend the mai tai's. The only downside is the fact that the bar is a bit small, but no worries as they have plenty of space otherwise. read more

Update to my original review. We went back to try the Chinese side of the menu. It was sooooo good. We had the dumplings with a spicey peanut sauce. They were fresh made dumplings not the frozen kind. The peanut sauce was yummy but not for people who do not like spice. It had nice texture with red chili peppers mixed in with the sauce and chopped peanuts. For dinner we tried the Golder Ginger Two Delight a duo of light crispy shrimp and bone in peking pork ribs. The sauces on both were delicate, but sweet and savory. The garnishes they do at this place are amazing. The plate presentations are beautiful! Our other dish was half of peking duck. They prepare the duck fresh for you so it takes extra time if you order this. But it was worth the 30 min or so wait. Our waitress brings the duck out with all the peking trimmings. She does a tableside preparation for you of four wraps with hoison, julienned cucumber and scallions. Two thumbs up for the extra perking duck presentation. Everyone around us watched our waitress do the presentation. Nice touch! The restaurant was hustling last night with a steady stream of patrons. Safe to say this place has caught on with the locals. I ordered the chef speciality Hong Kong delight... it comes with sesame beef and orange chicken and a side of white rice ... the beef was very very very chewy and rubbery ... as for the orange chicken was not crispy and it was just soak with the orange sauce..I ordered these items at several different Chinese restaurants in the past and the dish would be very crispy and delicious but at this place it is drench in sauce and it becomes a hot, mushy, and rubbery dish... Cleanliness and freshness are a couple things no one should negotiate on when at a restaurant. GG lacks in both department. We were sat promptly by a friendly hostess. Had to use the restroom upon arrival and when walking back noticed what appeared to be an abandoned prep room on the way. It was dirty and messy with rags, buckets and other miscellaneous items on the floor. I immediately thought if they were willing to let patrons see this level of dirty, what weren't they letting us see? Despite the weird room, we decided to order. The GF got a margarita. She tasted and said "thats different" so I take a sip and it was definitely pineapple. This is not by design, a margarita is a margarita at an asian restaurant or mexican joint. Guarantee there was pineapple in the bottle that now contained marg mix and no one bothered to wash it out. Got some crab rangoon for an app and they were decent. Unfortunately when I unwrapped my napkin and silverware my fork and knife were pretty gross. They were covered and a film of something and I began to get pretty nervous about my sushi. Sushi arrived and was warm, warmer than room temperature warm. Not sure why. $13.95 for a roll topped with "king crab" as stated on the menu and pretty sure it was the fake stuff from Market Basket across the street. We didn't finish our sushi. The GF was starving and craving sushi. I asked here why she didn't finish and she said "I feel kind of weird." I was also starving and decided to keep going. About an hour after I got home the sushi burps started and I made about 4 trips to the washroom over the next 90 minutes. Golden Ginger is definitely a no go for us in the future. read more
