I absolutely love diners and diner food but this place did not hit the mark. To begin, we got some less than average tasting coffee. We ordered the veggie skillet, make your own omelette and happy face pancake stack. The skillet was really bad. The potatoes tasted like they had been previously frozen and not de thawed or cooked properly. The veggies were a mix of wilted spinach, mushrooms, onions and tomatoes. Half of the onions were raw and there was no seasoning. Then the waitress messed up our order and didn't put in the right code so we got whole grain pancakes instead of the happy face pancakes. We felt bad sending them back. The make your own omelette was fine. On top of all of that, each plate was about $18... I would not recommend eating here.

I been going to the golden nugget restaurant for years. It's a great old school style restaurant. Great breakfasts. Chill environment. Prompt service

Larger to medium sized restaurant with plenty of seating & some parking in the rear. I got Cinnamon Swirl pancakes with a side of scrambled eggs & bacon. Loved the meal. It's open 24 hours so they have a large menu. Highly recommend.

Had a breakfast craving so came here. Ordered the Bonanza Special ($16.99) Based on the description it seemed pretty good, I got sunny side up eggs and sausage links and two pancakes. Although the plate looked really sad and definitely not worth what we paid. Our server was a very nice lady, checked on us regularly, she was great! Overall food was okay but would definitely pick something else on their menu now that I know

With its old school diner decor and eccentric cast of characters post midnight, Golden Nugget was exactly what my friends and I needed. Have to start off with the elephant in the room - their menu is stacked. From pancake to melts - whatever your diner comfort dish is, I guarantee Golden Nugget has it on their menu. Overall, food is pretty solid for a place open 24/7, including holidays. Out of curiosity, I ordered the chicken apple compote waffles, which was on the pricier end. I recommend the curly fries over the regular fries though.

If you are looking for a delicious old fashion styled pancake house I suggest giving Golden Nugget a try. I have driven past this place for years until finally coming in for a post gym breakfast with my girlfriend. We ordered the pancakes, turkey sausage, sunny side up eggs, sausage links, scrambled eggs and biscuits and gravy. The portions were perfect and the food was phenomenal. The food took a little while to come since it was busy. But it was well worth it. I can't wait to come back again.

Surprisingly decent food and quality. We stopped in on a whim. It was a snowy night, and we just wanted comfort food and easy. I thought the prices were high for an unassuming diner, but the portions were huge! Service was not great, kind of rude actually, but I'm sure they deal with a lot of drunk patrons.

This is really a 3 star review for me, but giving it an extra one for the fact that they were open on Christmas Day! Came here after a movie day at the Regal right down the street and wasn't too keen to make the trek over to Chinatown, Argyle/Uptown, etc. to find a Christmas Day restaurant. This place has been around for as long as I can remember as a kid, but first time actually going! From the outside looking in, it gives the old school diner vibe. And that's exactly what you'll find walking in. Got in just before 6pm, maybe a third to a half of the tables were filled, but you could tell pretty immediately the staff was slammed with orders and severely understaffed. Seemed like it was just the manager and one other front of house person who was serving and the rest were cooks/busboys. We had to wait like 5 minutes to get seated and maybe another 10 or so before we got our orders taken. I opted to get the four deuces which was 2 eggs, 2 sausage links, 2 bacon strips, and 2 pancakes for like $16.99. Also ordered a side of hash browns for another $4. The food was all solid. I especially enjoyed the pancakes, but then again I was craving it quite a bit. Also tried some onion rings from another person and they were decent. Overall, it's pretty standard breakfast diner food. Nothing that's going to knock your socks off, but also nothing was outright terrible. Definitely on the overpriced side, but then again this place is open 24 hours including Christmas Day so surely there's an upcharge for keeping the lights on then. Not some place I'm going to frequent on the often. Especially with some other restaurants including a certain polish sausage place across the street, but if for whatever reason you're trying to eat a breakfast before 7pm or some wicked late night munchies, this place is a decent option.

I'm a big breakfast guy at night and this place is the spot!! Very good portion of food and is very good!

After work this is the best spot to come to. Food is so filling and delicious. Customer service is great! Overall, a very nice place to dine in. My server Linda was so kind.

With myself hearing news Lawrence/Ravenswood GN sadly has reduced hours from 6am-10pm as 1/1/20, I worry was same 24/7 hours cutback also done here? Lawrence employees weren't sure if hours reduced at other 2 GNs, but I worry it's occurring :(

The day started off gloomy and gray, but as the clouds broke and the city transformed into a beautiful spring afternoon, the atmosphere inside Village Tap matched that same energy shift -- warm, lively, and welcoming. What truly makes this place stand out is the staff. Even while absolutely slammed with customers after another raucous Cubs post game crowd rolled through, Meg and Kevin never missed a beat. Their professionalism, attentiveness, and ability to stay accommodating under pressure was genuinely impressive. They made sure everyone felt taken care of, stayed on top of drinks and service, and somehow still kept the experience fun and relaxed despite the chaos around them. Kevin's witty banter and sense of humor add a personality to the bar that you just don't find anywhere around that area. It creates the kind of environment where regulars and first-timers alike instantly feel comfortable. Meanwhile, Meg handles the rush with incredible poise and attention to detail, making sure guests always feel valued and welcomed. Village Tap has always been a great neighborhood spot, but experiences like this are what separate good bars from truly memorable ones. Great drinks, great atmosphere, and even better people behind the bar. Even on one of their busiest, most understaffed days, Meg and Kevin proved exactly why this place continues to be a Roscoe Village favorite. My only gripe is The Golden Tee Cabinet.
