Hot, fresh and flavorful food, and the staff treats us like family. We're often running from one kid's event to another and want to stop in for a quick dinner. Most of the dishes are tasty. Two of 6 were not good and one of those we sent back- beef stick. This place is confused and trying to gain their bearings I think. They cannot manage the service consistently and dishes came out sporadically. It may have just been an off night but the restaurant was never more than half full and still it looked like they were having a very challenging time. I guess this town is not in need of more Asian restaurants but would like to see this work out. This location is one of those that has seen one restaurant after another fail. I will say their service is hit & miss, but for the most part, it is attentive. The new owners are from Asia Palace. I hope they're not going to manage this place like them because Asia palace was awful. I will never dine there again. That was the feedback I gave to the owner when they asked. I've had the Noodle/Won Ton soup. Fried rice (3), sushi (2.5), fried chicken (2), veggies & tofu (3), Sweet & sour chicken (1), Hot & sour cabbage (1). 1 stars indicates dishes over seasoned. I think, like Asia Place, they tend to over season. Chinese & Japanese food isn't to be over seasoned with soy or sauces. It makes it too salty! I won't be a regular. I think rather than give customers a bag of free produce (as nice as it is), they need to focus on preparing great food. read more

Came here based on all the gushing reviews, but left pretty disappointed. The food was very good, but not exceptionally so. The service was mediocre at best. The places was only half full at lunch, but they managed to miss several parts of of our order, including bringing out a bowl of soup at the same time as our bill. As others have noted, the timing of the sushi and Chinese dishes doesn't seem to work... we were halfway through our kung pao chicken when others in our party got their rolls. Not sure there is a good way to fix that problem, but they should try. Everyone raves about the free fruit at the end of the meal, but it didn't do much for me... the watermelon was terrible (as expected in the middle of winter) so why bother serving it? A bag of mangoes is a nice gesture, but I would have rather had the soup I ordered... So: not a bad meal, but nothing special. I ordered a Bento box and they accommodated me by making tofu teriyaki for my meal and a basil chicken meal. Everything was great. We really liked this place! Ate here with my boyfriend and my parents. We all got different entrees and shared it all, but I can honestly say I think we were all pleasantly surprised by each selection. I was passing through the area from San Francisco to Walnut Creek and saw the great reviews here. I had to check it out since I was craving Chinese. The service was great. The food however has room for improvement. I ordered sesame chicken which is different from any other sesame chicken I've had. The sauce was very light and honestly looked like thick honey. The chicken also had a non fresh, freezer burn taste. When I settled the bill they provided me several mangos and cotton candy to go. Took family here for my wife's birthday. Food was solid and tasty and service was excellent. Portions a bit smaller but this place saved the day! Wife was not in particularly good mood due to kids driving us crazy, fighting, the usual... Staff brought out mud pie for her birthday and we all sang. We had done a quick yelp search for nearby Chinese restaurants that we hadn't tried yet and we stumbled upon Golden Palace. Golden Palace is located in Moraga and has a convenient parking lot. The service is pretty good. The restaurant was pretty busy - there were a couple of huge parties there, so we were pretty glad that we got to the restaurant before they did. Golden Palace offers both Japanese and Chinese food. We decided to order off the Chinese menu - we ordered the following: beef sticks, mushu vegetable, and vegetable chow mein. The food was pretty good. Free fruit and fortune cookies for dessert. Also, three free random plums to go. We will definitely be back. read more

Don't go here-I normally only write positive reviews-I've never written a 1 star. After scheduling with the manager, Norman, at this restaurant two months in advance for my sons wedding rehearsal dinner, I get a phone call two weeks prior to the event. Mind you, I've made these reservations in the beginning of April and the event is in June. Norman tells me that he has been waiting for the 'new' policy before giving me the final pricing. I am under the impression that I am going to get a better deal than the menu pricing as the owner, Jay, told me he was going to 'give me a good discount'! Turns out the 'new' policy is that I had to order over twice as much food to make the "minimum" dollar amount total that they all of a sudden came up with! I felt this was unfair as this 'new' policy wasn't in effect when I booked the reservation, and they informed me 2 weeks prior leaving me with little room to look around for something else. There was going to be WAY too much food with the minimum dollar amount that they came up with. Fortunately, I got lucky and booked Peony Garden in Walnut Creek instead. Everything was excellent! We went to golden palace for lunch on Sunday. There was a large party there, so perhaps the service wasn't great because of the distraction of the party, but they were close to finishing as we arrived, so I wouldn't expect it to interfere too much. The food was actually very good, and the service was mostly friendly, but lunch was supposed to come with soup and an appetizer. The soup wasn't served first....instead one meal was served, 5 minutes later the next, and 5 minutes later the last meal. I inquired about the soup and the waitress asked if we wanted hot and sour or miso. We ordered one miso and two hot and sour, but when the soup finally arrived it was all miso with an explanation that it was "chef's choice" and hot and sour would take an hour to prepare. It would have been fine had we not been offered a choice, but it was strange that it was offered and then not given to us. The appetizer never came. We did get a bag with grapefruit to go, but there wasn't a beautiful fruit place like I saw in other pictures on yelp. All in all, I would return and try again because the food was good, but something certainly felt off. Hopefully I'll be able to change my review to 4 stars! I've been here a a few more times since my first review. Food is good, though there isn't a huge variation in flavor profile. I would say I generally prefer chef chao, but it's nice for a change and It's fun that they give kids cotton candy. I like that you can get Chinese or Japanese--they even have ramen, but I haven't tried it yet. One thing I will note is on my visits during lunch, they are hit or miss with giving you the included appetizer. read more

I was super skeptical when my friends and I first sat down and examined the menu because restaurants that attempt to serve food from multiple countries (in this case, Chinese and Japanese) tend to be terrible. We ended up ordering a few Chinese family style dishes and rice in addition to two sushi rolls. The food was great! It came out quickly too. As we were eating, we looked through Yelp reviews and saw multiple pictures of an interesting dish so we asked what it was and learned that it was seaweed/fried fish. Later, as we were enjoying our food, a worker brought out that dish we had asked about and it was on the house! I reaaallly liked it. Never saw that dish anywhere else before. The servers were super friendly and brought us a plate of watermelon and grapes, tons of fortune cookies and lollipops, and 4 boxes of apples after we finished our food, all on the house. Fish want super super fresh but standard for most places and the pieces were generous. Soup was pretty bland. Service was great. I knew they had some connection with Asia palace when we walked out with a bag of fruit. Second time was bento off the lunch menu. Slight mix up on the order where we got tempura shrimp instead of veggies. The negative is that these were definitely frozen pre made. They were all rectangular and uniform with a hard breaded shell. The veggie tempura was made there. Service good again. I wish I could give it 3.5 stars. The shrimp was the reason I rate it 3.5 instead of 4.
