Lo Mein is so bland and doesn't come with any veggies. This place is also NASTY (like the Honey Badger). So a friend and I ordered delivery from the Golden Sun on Christmas around 6pm. It took them almost TWO hours to get to my house. I live roughly one mile from the restaurant, and I understand that it was one of like five restaurants open on Christmas, but still. But I was half in the bag (mildly drunk) and didn't even notice until it had been over and hour and forty minutes. I was going to wait until it was two hours to call, basically because I was in no shape to talk to someone whose first language wasn't English. But when it finally arrived, it was still pretty warm. The beef fried rice was pretty good, although the chunks of beef were fairly big, I ended up cutting the pieces in half. The was also slivers of white onion, carrot and cabbage mixed in. There was also a lot of scrambled eggs mixed in it, which I enjoyed. General Tao's chicken was good, lightly spicy and fried to perfection. I think this was my favorite part of the order. It was a huge portion and came with a container of white rice. We also ordered the House Platter for Two, which came with two beef teriyaki skewers, friend crab cheese wontons (crab rangoon), fried pork dumplings, two vegetable egg rolls and fried shrimp. There was only one fried shrimp, which was decent, it tasted like every other fried shrimp I've had. The pork dumplings were small, but tasted alright, they were a little over cooked though. The crab rangoon was alright, although there was only a hint of crab, it was basically cream cheese in a fried wrapper. The veggie egg rolls were pretty good, nothing special though. The worst was the beef teriyaki sticks, they were completely dry and lacked any real flavor. I took one bite of mine and tossed the rest. Overall, it's decent drunk food, but I don't think I would ever order from here sober. Save your money on the House Platter, it wasn't worth the $10.50. You're better off just ordering a regular appetizer or two. But the fried rice and Tao's chicken was decent, I'd eat them again. It's also really nice that you can order online through their website, so you don't have to talk to anybody, and you and write out any comments you have. Because I know a lot of the time, order specifications can be lost in the translation. Blandest Chinese food I have ever eaten! My boyfriend got the pork chow mein and there was hardly any pork in it. I'm sorry to say that this is the first bad restaurant experience I've had in Boulder. I was repeatedly ignored from the moment I walked in. Seated with a menu decision, after over 10 mins of trying to catch a waiter's eye, I finally walked up to the register to order. I asked if a particular dish was made breaded. Yes. What about this other one? I asked, telling him I didn't want a breaded dish. No, the waiter said, that one is stir fried. So I ordered it - and it came breaded. Sigh. To top that off, my rice came a full 15 mins after the chicken & veg which was supposed to go on top of it. By that time I'd given up and eaten most of the entree. There was a lot of food, in their favor, and it tasted fine. And I didn't much mind the kids running around; although energetic, they were not loud and it made for sort of a family business atmosphere. But oy! The final straw for me came when I used the rest rooms afterward - they were frighteningly filthy and neglected, with streams of dirt markings on the stall doors. A co-worker and I decided to try their free delivery (without checking that their delivery time is between 45 min- 1 hour!) and we could've ordered the same thing (which we didn't!) becuase it tasted the same. You couldn't even see the difference between the orange chicken and the sesame chicken. Honestly, how could you possibly get sesame chicken wrong? It's a chinese restaurant staple right??? Went to this restaurant on a friday evening on recommendation of a regular delivery customer. My party were only customers at 6:30 which should have told me something. They seem to do mostly carryout and delivery business. They were completely not ready to handle dine-in. No place settings, hot glasses that quickly melted ice water like they had just come out of wash ( thankfully! ) and plates from earlier meals in day still on nearby tables. And several flies swirling around our table. Food order was quick, but then dishes started coming out 1 by 1. Fried rice ordered was lukewarm. As if some leftovers were thrown in a microwave or wok and reheated. 2 curry dishes ordered tasted like dry curry seasoning was added at last minute. Completely disgusting food. And portions were far too large. At same time, several apparent family members and acquaintances of the restaurant purveyors came in. Food arrived quickly for them as well, and to be honest looked far more appetizing. I felt like an unwelcome guest. Considering real estate prices in Boulder, I can't see how this place is staying in business. Carryout customers, stop giving them business and put them out of their misery. Golden Sun is delicious, and it's also a pleasant place to be. It is family-owned and run, and it's so nice to see them all working together and being there. Additionally, the food is great, and although delivery times may be long (I've never ordered, only eaten in and picked up, so I wouldn't know), it is definitely because of high demand and the fact that everything is freshly cooked. They have a lunch buffet with a pretty good variety of common Chinese food. Some noisy boys were loudly talking across the room at each other, apparently children of some of the restaurant staff, which added to the authentic atmosphere! I asked one of them if he could quiet down, as he shouted from the buffet, apparently oblivious that there were any customers here - not to much avail. This has to be the rock bottom cheapest all-you-can-eat buffet on the planet. The food is tolerable, the presentation is not quite as nice as a MacDonalds, and I would not recommend this to anyone if they asked for a good place to eat Chinese. And nobody asks for a mediocre place. I really hesitate even reviewing it. What strikes me is how this restaurant has evolved - it used to be more pleasant to come to, even if they didn't pay any attention to wiping down the menus or more subtle concerns. The first time I dined in here, the food was wonderful for a really good price during the lunch special. I decided to just have my food delivered the second time, for which I waited about an hour and ten minutes. That wasn't a super big deal but the delivery guy explicitly told me that my 15% tip was not enough and asked me to tip him better because he pays for his own gas and how they don't pay him enough. I ended up tipping him $5 because I felt bad but I will never have my food delivered THREE MINUTES DOWN THE ROAD from that restaurant again.
