Golden Wang Donkatsu occupies a large restaurant space in a Dublin plaza. The menu features Korean-style donkatsu (breaded cutlets), along with a few Asian fusion dishes. The signature Golden Wang Donkatsu was a pounded pork cutlet fried with a panko breading, served with a savory sauce and a spicy sauce on the side. The plate also came with rice, cabbage with a creamy dressing, a creamy pasta/corn salad, and a serving of creamed corn soup. My favorite dish was the Rose Pasta with Donkatsu, a serving of pasta in a decadently creamy, rich tomato cream sauce. The serving of donkatsu was sliced and placed right into the sauce, which paired perfectly with the crispy breading. In addition to the donkatsu, we also tried a few noodle dishes including the Fish Cake Udon, a bowl of udon in dashi topped with several styles of tofu, fish cake, and fish balls; and the Spicy Cold Noodle, made of chewy noodles with lettuce, cabbage, cucumber, carrots, bean sprouts, and hard-boiled egg, all mixed with a spicy chili sauce. Not busy at all on a Thursday evening. Order on the tablet on your table. Shared a few dishes, all were large portions. 5/5 Half & half. I preferred the regular katsu sauce but glad I got to try both. The spicy sauce was more like a vietnamese dipping sauce which was still tasty. Katsu was gigantic and had some sides of pasta salad and regular salad. Huge cutlet, perfectly cooked and crispy. 4/5 rose pasta with shrimp. Good, tasty. Unfortunately, this was a disappointing experience. We had been here for over an hour, and the service was extremely slow. My mom ordered clam chowder as an appetizer, but it took an hour to arrive. We had to ask about it three separate times and were repeatedly told that they were very busy. What made it worse was that the rest of us received our meals before her appetizer even arrived. When the clam chowder finally came, there were no clams in it--just potatoes and croutons. The serving dish was also surprisingly shallow, which made the portion look fuller than it actually was. For a dish that took an hour to arrive, this was especially disappointing. I had also ordered food to go, and interestingly, that order came out before any of our dine-in meals. We were also asked to switch seats because the restaurant was expecting a large party. I noticed their large-party policy on the digital menu, which states that parties of six or more are subject to a mandatory 20% service charge to cover large-party service costs, with additional gratuity optional. Given that policy, I can understand why they wanted to accommodate the incoming group, but asking existing customers to move while we were already waiting for our food wasn't ideal. On the positive side, the restaurant itself has a nice ambiance. It's very clean, and the Asian-style lanterns add an interesting decorative touch to the space. Unfortunately, the slow service, missing clams, small portion, and overall handling of our meal overshadowed the positives. Came here on a Saturday a week after grand opening. It was 1/2 full. The dishes are big. But the pork was quite thin. The ratio of pork and batter is 1:1 which made it hard to taste the pork. Shrimp Rose' Pasta 4 stars the sauce was good the four shrimp that came with the pasta was premade and not very fresh. Donkatsu with two sauces 2 stars the donkatsu was large flat and fried dry. Doused in sauces bones with macaroni salad, rice and shredded cabbage. The entrees comes with a dish of assorted vegs. The complimentary corn soup was lukewarm warm at best.. This location still has the same modern Japanese vibe/decor from what I remember. I don't blame them for not changing it because there is nothing wrong with it. It's nice. If you dunk it into the sauce you will not notice how dry it was. The sauce I was not expecting. It tasted a cross between ketchup and BBQ sauce. The fish katsu was nice and crunchy. It was also pretty thin. I expected tartar sauce - that's normal right? The sauce I was served I couldn't get past the fact it tasted like ranch. The ratio of rice to this huge combo plate would be considered irrational to most Asians lol. (See pic). I added an extra side of rice since we were sharing. It came with a shredded cabbage salad and anti-pasta. An extra side of soup was ordered. My friend thought it was okay so I gave them my portion. The meal came with a soup already and I didn't like it. It was presented as corn soup. My opinion shouldn't count too much about this dish because I've only had corn pottage in Japan. Never had corn soup anywhere else. It tasted like canned mushroom soup to me and had that same consistency. The "boss lady " greet and chat with every table it eh restaurant and skipped our table. The offer a free corn soup that taste like instant soup. Towards when we asked for the check, the young Asian lady server were looking at us awkwardly. I really wanted to like this place but unfortunately we left underwhelmed. First the pros-The ambience is nice and service was fast and friendly. You order on the tablet which is easy. Food came out pretty quickly. Our meals came with corn chowder which was tasty, and a few pickled vegetables. My son ordered the Golden Wang Donkatsu and I ordered the half spicy one. The meat portion was huge and came with 1 small scoop of rice and some shredded cabbage. Cons- we knew right away we should've ordered the sauce on the side. Our katsus were drenched in the sauce. If the sauce was actually good it would've been fine but the original sauce was too tangy and tasted like ketchup and bbq sauce. It would have been decent with regular tonkatsu sauce or even curry since the katsu was tender and crispy (except for the sauced areas, which was almost all of it.) The spicy sauce tasted like a Chinese chili sauce and it was actually tastier but there was just too much of it. I actually don't mind that they don't have a huge menu, but their signature sauce is not good. Maybe if they offer curry sauce or make the original sauce taste better we'll consider going back. read more

As a katsu fanatic seeing a new katsu place nearby I had to come. I guess it was grand opening week, I came around lunch on a friday. Service is pretty fast, I think it was the new owner or day manager that had a quick chat with me after I got seated. I ordered and was served relatively fast considering it was just me and another group inside at the time. They give you sides of pickled veggies which is very nice mix with the meal and a thick corn soup. The katsu I have to say was amazingly good. Crust was light and crispy not overly thick or over-fried it was golden brown. Both didn't seem greasy at all like usual fried foods. The fish was nice and flakey and the pork impressed me. Not sure if it was just my piece or in general but for pork that had no fat chunks as part of the whole katsu it was very tender and juicy; ate about half of it plain no sauce. Some places destroy their katsu with being overly cooked and dry. They do give a large portion of sauce if you ask for it on the side which is nice because sometimes I'm saddened by other places that give you tiny bit of sauce not even enough to coat the katsu. I can drench my entire katsu here without running out. The only downside for me was probably the pork katsu sauce. Might just be me but I would've preferred the usual katsu sauce blends out there instead of the ketchup like base sauce they serve here. Interior, I mean what can I say. Large windows for sunlight exposure. The interior's about the same as the previous place this used to be. As long as I'm comfortable eating here with enough light that doesn't blind me it's a go in my book. Will return to try some of the sides. read more

The service was amazing. The food was beautifully plated and delicious. I had the omurice and pork cutlet. My only complaint was with their digital menu. The name of the item I ordered was the shrimp fried rice but the description was the pork cutlet. I just read the description when I ordered it. When the staff brought out the fried rice, I brought up the issue and they corrected it immediately. The ambiance is wonderful. I like that I can see into their kitchen and watch them cook. I walked in and ordered takeout of their Golden Katsu today, giving them a try today since it's their first day. My first impression was the surprisingly huge box. It almost felt like a full size keyboard box. Opening it felt like unwrapping a present in Christmas due to how refined the box looked. Inside I found a large piece of Katsu with white rice, clam chowder and the sauce. The Katsu, soup, and sauce radiates heat when I opened the box, which I liked. The skin of the Katsu itself was very crispy, and the sauce does add flavor to the katsu itself. I was able to cut through the Katsu with ease as well, proving it's tenderness, unlike some other restaurant that would have very tough meat. The clamp chowder was creamy and thick, almost like a sauce on it's own. In addition, the meal does come with a small tray of veggies and sauce. This store is the sister location to the one in Santa Clara and therefore has a similar menu. From the outside it does felt the glass is tinted so it's difficult to see inside. Inside of the restaurant it has a Japanese style interior with a darker ambiance. I was immediately greeted from the side and after I ordered, there was a waiting area to the left of the entrance. The wait for the order was about 15 minutes. This location is located across the street from Ranch 99, Fitness 19, Daiso, and is in the same Plaza as Paris Baguette and Cathay Bank. Finally, and I wish I can deduct only half a star instead of a full star for, is the price. It is priced a little above average but I think that's the norms for eating outside now.
