Finnnalllllyyy I found a croissant I loved since France! And no I'm not fancy. Literally wearing a shirt I found on the side walk a week ago. I'm just saying the chocolate croissant wasn't too showy, buttery or sweet. It was a beautiful flaky croissant with a secret of delicious chocolate. The staff was friendly. Coffee was real good. Wasn't a huge fan of the bagel but it wasn't bad at all. I just would get 1324089 more of the chocolate croissants. Skip the huge lines at the okay bakeries around and come here. Visited recently on my birthday to grab a selection of assorted cookies for sharing with others. Especially liked the pecan cookies (my favorite!) and the snickerdoodles. Skinny burrito- most underwhelming burrito I have ever eaten. The potatoes were green, it tastes like dirt. If I could have added sour cream and avocado maybe this burrito would have been bearable but they were out of both. For those people who claim this is the best burrito they are mistaken. Bread Alligators! It's the coolest thing any bakery could offer. So how did I find out about this place? The Stranger newspaper. I wanted a picture with the bread alligator and the owner happily encouraged me to do so. Just a tip: He told me that if I gave him a days notice, he would make one for me. I'm sure he'll do the same for you if you wanted one as well. I arrived around 9am and there was already a long line. The bakery deli case had many things to choose from but I knew I had to limit myself. I got blueberry and pear pastries. They were still warm as the owner handed me my bag of goodies. I could feel greatly happy in this bakery. Although it isn't a fancy one, it is very welcoming. My sister insisted on getting for breakfast chocolate croissants. I am not very fond of sweet stuff for breakfast. It was a good chocolate croissant, however. It was not greasy as they usually are, and it was still warm from the oven. I really enjoyed the bit bitter of the dark chocolate, which gives a great flavor and an amazing smell. I love the cookies with some kind of cherry paste on top. As you can see, I got one for my after supper. Prices are very affordable and the sizes are good; not small at all. The music was hispanic, and the owners are the best touch to my visit this time. I'm writing this as I tuck into a deliciously moist, crumbly and generous biscotti. I just discovered this bakery as I was driving on Martin Luther King and spotted the "A" board. A quick right took me up 2 blocks to an unassuming cafe in what appears to be mostly a residential neighborhood. Boy are they lucky. The very pleasant cashier told me everything is made right there -- from the solid cheesecakes to the croissants, to the powder-sugared pecan cookies and breads. This isn't your ordinary Italian, Jewish, French or Mexican bakery, but an international combination, perhaps baking the most beloved of each. Believe it or not I bought an exceptional challah. I was told that they make homemade tamales too on Friday and another day (can't remember) -- cheese and jalapeno, chicken or pork. Damn, I knew I forgot something. read more

Small bakery with a limited selection. It looks like they are geared more towards breads and less towards sweets (but they did have cookies, muffins etc). The breads looked delicious and fresh. They also sold day old bread at 50% discount. I was tempted but my husband only wanted to try the fresh stuff. Because we didn't want to buy too much bread, we decided to go with the plain baguette. It was good bread but not in the style of a French baguette. It didn't have the same body, flavor, or structure. (I have a hard time describing the differences). I still liked it, but wish we had tried the challah (which really looked good). We also took home a couple of the bagels. Again, these did not have the right texture/flavor to be a bagel. They tasted like...bread. Being fresh, they were still tasty but lacked that essential quality that distinguishes a bagel from a circular piece of bread. Service was very friendly so I'll give them three stars. read more

Clearly I've been under a rock and only just checked out this Madrona neighborhood café/bakery for the first time today for lunch. Golden Wheat Bakery has been open since March 2013. We were the only ones in the café/bakery, well except a young boy playing with a truck at one table, presumably the owner's son. The Asian woman that took our lunch order was very attentive and pleasant. The presumed owner also came out and greeted us, plus prepared our sandwiches. So what did we order? Two lunch specials - we both chose the soup of the day (vs salad) and sandwich combo. Homemade chicken noodle soup (given additional bread slices - we chose whole wheat) and a substantial classic club sandwich with a pickle. The soup is absolutely what I needed for this seasonal cold I picked up. The contents wre generous with tender chicken chunks, vegies, just wished the noodles weren't so mushy. We both ended up only eating half our respective club sandwiches - goodness three slices of bread with turkey, ham, thick cut bacon, cheese slices, tomato, lettuce and mayo! Definitely the extra bread slices and sandwich halves were going home. Saw the assortment of bread loaves. Plus the pastry case held quite the variety with cakes, pies, cookies, pastries, but our selections included: One cinnamon roll - kiddo ate that later for his afterschool snack and said it was 'OMG it was so yummy, especially the center was so awesome' One almond cookie - we had to split that, never made it home. It was very tasty. Two raisin rugelach - we each ate one there. Usually my favorite rugelach is up in Vancouver BC, but these were very good. The almond cookie and the rugelach paired well with our respective 16 ounce mochas. I liked that the coffees weren't cloying and were strong. One coconut macaroon - this was nibbled upon later in the late afternoon and was deemed 'moist, chewy, great flavor and a bit lighter than most people's macaroons'. Decent street parking availability. Exercise caution as cars whizzed by and didn't stop for us pedestrians until the seventh car. Modest walk-by traffic. The owner had conversations with the postman and another person who stopped in as were finishing our lunch. Noticed that WiFi is also available. No background music or other people having lunch while we were there though. Total with tax and generous tip was a little over $47. Clearly this is a well-established neighborhood café/bakery - thanks again fellow Yelpers for the intel and reason to stop by! read more

There is no place I'd rather be than here at 7:30am on a Sunday. This place is so good that I hesitate to tell anyone in fear of creating longer lines between myself and the food. 1 to 2 times a week, I come and grab a cup of coffee and enjoy the atmosphere while my 2 Mexican Burritos are made. I will also occasionally get a tamale. The sweets are perfect too. Whoever that little lady in the back is could be one of the best chef's in Seattle. read more

Went there early Saturday morning and yes, they have one of the best danishes I've ever had. The danish pasties was a buttery croissant. I also got a croissant but it didn't taste as good as the danish, which surprised me. They must've added more butter in the danish croissant. I didn't think the rugelakh was out of the world but it was good. Before 3/15/2014, if you spend more than $10, you get a free cookie! :D Overall, it's a good pastry place to get breakfast. read more

Best. Key lime. Pie. Ever. IMHO, what makes a great key lime pie? Ratio: Sweet to tart, crust to filling, filling to whipped cream topping. And Angel's pie gets an A+ on all counts. And I give more secret stars for the community feeling of this little gem. Last time I was there munching on one of their empanadas (another winner), I listened to the table behind me hold what sounded like a school group meeting. I like that. A local favorite of ours! This is the place we head to when we come home from a long day of work and want something simple for dinner with a little warmth tossed in. We walk our dogs to the bakery and get a fresh loaf of bread. It makes the simplest meal perfect! The family-like atmosphere is fabulous and very welcoming. We are so happy they moved to the hood! I would have never stepped in her if it wasn't right next to where I was staying in Seattle. The morning of our departure, my boyfriend and I wanted to try this little bakery a block away and reflect before we started on the road to wedding craziness as two of our buds said "I do." The morning we arrived, we were informed enthusiastically by the woman at the counter that had just finished their "busiest morning ever" and were running lower than usual on baked goods. But even then, there was a decent selection of croissants and pastries that I was able to find something easily. I had a delicious apple pastry, and BF had buttery, flaky-to-perfection croissant. we devoured our treats incredibly fast, and took the time to enjoy the bakery's coffee (also great!) and take in the quiet peacefulness of his little hideaway in suburban Seattle. Another thing I loved about Golden Wheat is that is clearly a local business that takes pride in the community and giving back. Through the store were flyers and promotions for local neighborhood events and charity drives. If I had been available I would have probably attended one. My regrets were: 1) Not getting there earlier to see what I could have eaten 2) Since we were travelling, bringing a loaf of bread with us would have been ill-advised and "crumby" I don't know when I'll get the chance to come back here, but that shouldn't stop you! I discovered the multigrain bread, which I prefer over the other artisan breads (Macrina, Essential Baking Co, etc) The atmosphere is that of a family style, small-town bakery. Homespun. Comfortable but nothing fancy. All the pastries I've tried are truly very good. Somehow the rugelakh are the best I've ever had (and the proprietor has a Spanish accent...?).
