Best Korean food in OC with a ton of Banchan. Everything is always large portions so perfect for groups or individuals who want leftovers.

Went here for a weekend lunch with a group and was surprised by how slow it was. There were only a couple of other tables besides ours. The stir-fried squid with noodles was delicious and came in a generous portion. The LA Galbi also tasted good, but the portion was disappointing. It looked like we got mostly small leftover pieces with very little meat compared to other Korean restaurants, especially for $33.99. The stir-fried kimchi with tofu was another letdown--the amount of tofu was very small for $36.99. The food overall was tasty, but the service was one of the strangest experiences I've had. Our banchan (side dishes) didn't come until after the appetizer, and only because we asked. We also had to ask for water. Our appetizer arrived without any sauce, and later they brought soy sauce with wasabi, which wasn't even for our seafood pancake or fried dumplings. After all of our food was served, no one came back to check on us--not even once. I'm honestly not exaggerating. The staff kept disappearing, and at one point we saw them all eating lunch together in the dining area, which made us uncomfortable interrupting them. When we were ready to leave, we needed to-go boxes and the check, but no one was around. We finally had to ask a lady who had just clocked in. Our bill was over $300, and honestly, we didn't feel the service deserved a tip. This place is a hit or miss. The food is good, and that's the only reason I'd consider coming back. Unfortunately, the service completely ruined the experience for our entire group. As much as we enjoyed the food, we wouldn't recommend this place based on the service alone. read more

The spinach kimchi (free side dish) and bossom were definitely the highlights of the meal. Everything else was a bit lackluster in flavor. We have tried this place twice -- both times we had the bossam (steamed pork belly), and it's great. Most places serve bossam warm, but this is the only place we've been to that serves it over sterno heat to keep up the temperature. There's also a little bit of some broth and it gives the bossam a little extra flavor. Pro tip: after the bossam is heated you can turn down the heat by closing the lid over the sterno by 1/2 or more to avoid overcooking the pork. We also had the bibimbap, and it was also good-- but, really, you can't mess up bibimbap. There's also a good selection of banchan. Service was good and prices are reasonable. We're putting this on our list of places to go to. read more

Top tier Korean food. Does not disappoint! Their cold noodles are sooo refreshing and massive portions. Noodles are perfectly chewy and the broth is sweet savory perfection. My friend also loved her spicy bibimnaengmyeon! The bossam also hit the spot and I think $26 for the bossam + cold noodle combo is worth it bc it's definitely shareable. Service was super quick and all the banchan was spectacular and great variety. They were very attentive and food came out quickly. There's plenty of seating here and a nice space! Galbi-tang broth was good but it could've used more meat. Fish egg soup did not have any tofu in it which is atypical. Soup broth was good but felt like it didn't have enough vegetables & other ingredients to make the soup more filling. Came here for dinner with my fiancé because I was craving bossam and cold noodles. We were seated immediately. They took a little bit to take our order but the food was served quickly soon after that. The restaurant was spacious and wasn't too busy when we came. They have 2 jinro frogs in the front which are super cute too. They have combos so we ordered the combo with bossam and cold noodles to share. They split the cold noodles in half for us which was very nice and unexpected. Their Banchan was also really good. I'm a little picky with my cold noodles, but these ones were still good. This restaurant is located on the corner of Lincoln and Beach, down the street from Knott's Berry Farm. It's in the corner of a strip mall, so there's plenty of free parking. Met family here for lunch. We ordered dish #1, which they are famous for, like a hot pot; the Korean seafood pancake that was the size of a large pizza; and jap-chae, not pictured here. The main dish came with two small bowls of purple colored rice that tasted better than it looked. Many unique side dishes, along with the traditional kimchi. Complimentary, as always. Service was good. They greeted everyone who walked through the door. Atmosphere, same as other Korean bbq restaurants. The place was clean. Bo-dee-cha and cold water at the table. My friend and I came here on a weeknight and we got the grilled octopus bibimbap rice and galbi full size. Although staff and service were very nice and friendly, I thought the food was just okay. The galbi portion was very small when it came out and I was very surprised, because it was expensive, $35! But the size was more of a combo size when you order with tofu at a tofu place... it was only two ribs cut up... I know you can def get a lot more at other places. Came here on a Saturday night, and it wasn't too busy surprisingly. No wait for a group of 8 people. First impression of this place was that it was authentically Korean, and the Korean aunties were very nice. Service was actually better than the service I would get in LA K town to be very honest. Prices seemed on average with the other traditional Korean places out there. Got the bibimbip and beef bulgolgi combo, and both items were delicious and top quality. The food was not heavily salted/greasy, and I didn't get that heavy feeling after a Korean meal. The group I went with really liked their dishes they got as well, and they really liked the portion size for their meals. Also they were very generous with their banchan dishes, and they were of good quality as well. I really like their fish cake banchan the most. In my opinion, this is one of the best Korean restaurants to try in So Cal, and if I'm ever back in the OC area, it would be worth to try their other items as well. read more

We had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. I ordered the Napa Wraps with Pork + Soybean Paste Soup, and my wife had the Sam Gye Tang (Ginseng Chicken Soup). I managed to finish my meal only because I had skipped both breakfast and lunch and was extremely hungry. My wife, who also hadn't eaten lunch, couldn't finish even half of hers. We usually enjoy Korean side dishes (banchan) and often finish them before the entrée arrives, but that wasn't the case here. All nine side dishes were either really salty or really sweet. My wife even speculated that they were intentionally made unappetizing to discourage guests from asking for more. Overall, the food quality and taste were far below expectations. They gave us the check as soon as we ordered b/c she said she had to pay her workers, their tips. Maybe if I go back during normal hours, it will be better next time. This is definitely your hole in the wall type of place and I would be gatekeeping if I did not tell you how amazing this place is. First of all, this place is huge so you don't really have to wait in line. The food is delicious and the portions are huge! I tried the Korean hotpot, Korean pork rib, Korean kimchi stew, and the veggie pancake! Everything was delicious including the banchan they give you. The veggie pancake was flavorful and not very oily. It had a crispy top and the veggies were fresh. The pork ribs were on the spicy side but had enough kick to keep me wanting more. The hotpot was interesting since it was fried but had a good amount of soup to balance out the flavors. Served with purple rice, this was a lovely combination of flavors. Found this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try. The menu items all sounded delicious and there were so many options to choose from. We decided to get the pig trotters and Napa wrap with pork dish and the rice cake and dumpling soup. Once everything came out we were all just drooling over how many side dishes and food we got. The portions were ridiculously large and more than enough for our party of 3. There was no doubt we were going to take home leftovers since it looked like a feast. First off the dumplings are hand made and really delicious. The soup was light, hearty and warm at the same time. The rice cakes were thin and chewy as well. All of us ended up devouring the soup real quick. The pig trotters and the Napa wrap with pork came in two dishes with a bunch of kimchi, cabbage, lettuce, perilla leaves, garlic slices, sauce, and peppers so we had plenty of options to stuff ourselves with. I was pleased to discover that the bossam was served on fire at your table. Really ups the quality of the meal. The Korean Style Hotpot is the best you can order from the menu at this restaurant. It's portioned to the specific amount of members in your party at roughly $20 per person. The workers will place the hot pot in the center over the fire and will allow you to pour your broth and add ingredients in as you eat. The broth is super flavorful and ingredients are fresh. This place comes with the usual korean side dishes and you can order other items such as tofu and soybean soup with your meal (extra costs). Lots of seating inside the restaurant but limited parking because the business shares a parking lot with several other businesses. You can get it was a combo with another soup or a la carte. If you get it a la carte, the even provide you with a mini burner so it keeps warm. The bossam was delicious and had a lot of side dishes. I think a good judge of a Korean restaurant is their banchan and at Sonamu it's delicious. They always have a large variety of banchan that they bring out w your food. Their menu has a large selection of foods. Service is top notch. We have two toddlers and they really cater to the kids. Listen. I was not expecting much from this restaurant that's tucked in the corner of a small shopping center. However, I was so impressed by the quality and taste of their food as well as their service. I was immediately greeted by two of the servers and showed to our table. Upon looking at the menu, I didn't know what to choose because there was so much to try. In the end, I ordered the hot stone bibimbap and beef short rib (galbi) combination. They also give you a lot of side dishes (banchan) and they gave me a soybean paste stew along with my meal. It was so delicious, that I finished all of my meal. I have to say it's the best bibimbap I've had at any Korean restaurant before. Bibimbap is basically a rice dish that comes with many different types of vegetables, an egg, and a type of meat usually. They also give you a spicy sauce to add on the top to mix around. They did forget about my order of galbi, but they started working on it immediately and had it ready for me within 5 minutes. I was very happy with my food and I will be returning. This is the Korean restaurant you need to put on your list if you're looking for authentic home cooked style. Don't be surprised if you see older crowds only. That means it's really authentic and elders approved. They have banchans that change every other week. Last time I went there was PA Kimchi which is kimchi made out of scallions. This was mind blowing to see at restaurants #iykyk. Service is great no complaints considering that Korean ahjummas constantly ask you if anything else is needed.
