My family and I stopped here after spending the morning at the dunes. Menu looked interesting, even if a little pricey. I'm glad I read other reviews (after we ate) because I didn't want to think our service had to do with the melanin in our skin. The server took her sweet time waiting on us and I felt like we were imposing on her to actually take our order. When we did get our tasteless food it was dropped off without so much as a word. We had to go to the cook to ask him to get her to come back to ask for mayo. That server should not work in a customer service job and the food had no taste. Had breakfast at Good Harbor Grill this morning. We arrived about 40 minutes before breakfast ended. Even though it was a bit closer to lunch, we didn't feel our breakfast experience was compromised. Food was excellent. Everything was served hot. The Big Bear Breakfast skillet I ordered was very good. Potatoes were well seasoned and hot. Overall, a very good experience. We had lunch here today after doing the dune climb at sleeping bear dunes. Glen arbor is very close to the dunes, which I was relieved to find since I worked up quite the appetite climbing the dunes! This place is on the main drag in glen arbor, with a convenient parking lot behind the restaurant. It is a small but cute little place. The service was okay (I think our waitress was busy when we first came in but then the lunch crowd started to leave as our lunch went on and she became friendlier as the meal went on). I thought the prices were also fair. I had the crab cake sandwich. It was very tasty! I saw in other reviews that they make their bread in house. I could definitely tell! My boyfriend had the chicken sausage gumbo, which he said was good but not as spicy as he was expecting. He had the grilled chicken sandwich which he said was fine, but a little lacking in taste. We split the cherry raspberry pie a la mode since we saw so many reviews about it and after all, we are in cherry country. It is definitely worth ordering. I was especially impressed with the pie crust. I am usually disappointed by restaurant pie crusts since they're usually too flaky and flavorless, but this crust was almost as good as my grandma's homemade pie crust, and she's been making awesome pies for over 60 years. Had high hopes for this place as it was my first time being in "Downtown" Glen Arbor in over 10 years and it's super cute with the lounge ready out-door patio... Here's the downfall: very slow, indifferent service. No apologies for the food taking a million years to arrive. Took forever to get a refill on water.. had a guy refill one person's water at my table and then totally skip me. The upside: The food is tasty. I had a cheeseburger with farm-raised, all natural Leelanau beef with a yummy side salad. But, I did find it lame that it came with a side of tortilla chips (sans salsa) instead of old-fashioned french fries. The place has a hip vibe (cool coffee and beer selection and pretentious menu) yet it fails to fully deliver the goods. Decided to give this spot a try the other night with a group of 4. Pretty limited dining scene in Glen Arbor, in both quality & quantity. It's an expensive place, so at the very least we thought it would be above average. WOW we're we WRONG. I'll spare everyone the details, on the minuscule chopped up bone dry whitefish and chainsaw it takes to dig thru the trout. I'll also leave out the "potatoes" which come on the side, which were soggy, tasteless & inedible. Each piece of fish is in the $27.00 range...which is a non issue for something remotely good. I had such high hopes for this place based on several recommendations from friends. My mom ordered the soup of the day-new england cheddar and turnip but it was flavorless and lukewarm. Her side salad was good and the bread was freash. I ordered the grown up grilled cheese with Havarti, tomato, and onions on their grilled homemade bread. It was big and filling but again wasn't very warm and needed some more flavor to make it stand out. It came with store bought round tortilla chips. Really, store bought? For a place boasting an eclectic, organic vegetarian friendly menu nothing we had seemed that special or eclectic. My family has been vacationing in nearby Glen Haven since, well, almost forever, (D. H. Day came up here in 1878 according to my sources,) and we've been eating at the Good Harbor since I can remember. As far as I'm concerned, the Good Harbor Grill is the ONLY restaurant for dinner in Glen Arbor. I love the delicious fresh whitefish, the tasty mixed kabobs, and of course, the chocolate bourbon pecan pie. (I'm on vacation!) Another nice touch: dinner entrées come with a big salad, served family style, which includes zucchini, pumpkin seeds, dried cherries and your choice of dressing (lemon-basil, cherry balsamic, and spicy thai are all winners.) My one complaint: the fresh bread used to be served warm. It wasn't this year. (Minus 1 star) Overall rating: Yummmmm! P.S. Also worth mentioning is the Cherry Republic, great for a snack, icecream, or pie, but not to the same restaurant standards as the Good Harbor. Wonderful raspberry cherry pie. There wasn't anything in particular I didn't like, but for some reason I can't bring myself to give more than 3 stars. Maybe it was our server...I had a whole conversation with her about whether or not mayo was on the turkey sandwich, and she said she didn't think so. And I said if it did, please no mayo. It came out with mayo, and when I pointed it out, she said "oh, did you say no mayo?" I guess she just seemed a bit disinterested. We were seated close to the open kitchen, and the staff in the kitchen was friendly and interacted with us as they worked. I think one of the other reviews commented the tortilla chips that come with the sandwiches are lame, and I agree. If you're going to offer a quirky side item instead of a more traditional potato based product, at least make it a good one. read more

We ate here for the first time today. Great atmosphere and really friendly staff! It was hard to decide what to eat, a lot of great options. I had a bacon cheese burger which was amazing, yum. My son had beef chili(they have 3 different kinds of chili). That was good. My daughter had a turkey avocado sandwich which she said was good. My husband had the Greek salad with blackened chicken on top. That was delicious! I couldn't try the sandwich because I have an avocado allergy but my husband said it was great! Then we had dessert! Such a cute place. Service was outstanding as well as the food. Homemade hot out of the kitchen. My husband had the special of beef stroganoff and the meat was so tender it melted in your mouth. Having just moved to Traverse City, I was invited to bring my family to this quaint restaurant in Glen Arbor. When I arrived, the restaurant was nestled along Main Street with patrons gathering for lunch. I knew I arrived at a great place when I saw the people laughing, talking, being comfortable, and enjoying lunch. My family had the greatest waitress known to mankind. She greeted us with a smile that exudes joy and friendliness. She was very pleasant throughout lunch. She never let the glasses go dry. She is so great that Muhammed Ali could hide in her shadow. Let me start my review by stating that this was during the very busy July 4 holiday rush. I will also say that our server tried her very best to take care of us. It is not lost on us these are challenging times to staff a restaurant and provide the service level that many of us are accustomed to receiving. That being said, the food served to us was nothing short of a abysmal. The least offensive dish our party received was the red pasta. I had the white fish it was over seasoned and undercooked. Another friend had the crabcakes that were tasteless and also poorly cooked. My wife ordered a stirfry dish that was delivered as a soup it was a salty mess and sent back. One of our appetizers was a shrimp scampi which was also undercooked covered in cheese and covered in cheese. The server was so pleasant in taking back the items that were not good and trying to accommodate us. While we understand that it's not easy to deliver the best food options when understaffed and during a busy time the quality of the food delivered to us as was as bad as I have had in a restaurant read more

I've come to Glen Arbor my entire life (over 40 years) and my parents live here year round, but I had never been to Good Harbor Grill. I used to go to the restaurant that was previously there, the Red Pine, when i was a kid. I ordered the Indian Curry. It was OK, not great. It was very filling, but it didnt have much chicken, and the curry flavor was very weak. The items on the menu seemed way over priced, with the average entree costing at least $25. I get that it is a tourist town, but geeze. I probably won't be going back. read more

Okay so I read the reviews and decided to go in and give it a shot! The people who graded this place good were obviously locals... first the places A/C sucked and the tables and booths were tiny. The servers were RUNNING and just couldn't keep up. The salad had a weird fresh mix which was surprising but kinda tasted weird. Squash radish carrots ? The food was PRICEY 22.$ for a sirloin? We wanted to order the ribeye but wasn't told it was out of stock till we order. I got a pasta a fish and a steak with my family. Server knew her stuff and even made a extra run for me. Very great girl. But the food was tasteless. The quality of it i dont feel was the best. It was cooked to the best quality mediocre food can be cooked tho. Very disappointed. Made a 2 hr trip here only to find out it's typical thinking inside the vegan box food. Only possibilities were the veggie wraps or sandwiches. The black bean burger is NOT vegan as it contains egg white. The only dressing that's vegan is the lemon basil. I wound up ordering the bowl of veggie chili (hold the sour cream and cheese). Which included corn and blue tortilla chips. A somewhat strange combination in my mind. The chili was OK, not great but at least it had a mild kick to it. Service was horrendous. 3 tables sat down after I placed my carryout order and they got their food before me. There were 3 waitresses, all of whom handed me off to someone else. First it was the busser who said she didn't know anything about the menu. Then the first waitress was too busy to answer my questions so she passed me to another server. Who promptly passed me to another. Who took my order and money very promptly and then ignored me for a good 15 minutes. Why it took that long to place 2 scoops of chili in 2 take out containers and throw in some tortilla chips, I'll never know. read more

You eat with your eyes but that's only half of it. The food looks appealing but once it hits your tongue it's absolutely god awful. After our terrible expirence at boondocks, we decided to try something no but boi that was a bad idea. My first red flag there are no french fries on the entire menu. And the fish sandwich we ordered was nothing but bread and a slim slice of fish. my sisters salad tasted a lot like hair and anchovy juice, now we know she will never be attacked by a vampire due to the excessive amount of garlic. and the store bought croutons put me over the edge as they said they were homemade on the menu. And worst part is that the side was simply plain tortilla chips with nothing to dip it in, what kind of side is that and because of the unfortunate open kitchen we had to watch her man handle the chips out of a store bought look alike off brand tostitos bag. The ratio of meat to bread is disappointing clearly none of them went to culinary school seeing as though they looked fresh into highschool. The burger was all meat and no bread what's up with that. The cheese on the burger looked plastic. If you love hummus well don't get this one unless your looking for a chickpea soup with occasional pieces of red substances. We've been coming to Glen Arbor for years and this place has THE BEST food in Glen Arbor. There aren't many restaurants, so you will try them all. Arts is great for atmosphere and funky bar fun- but the food is nothing special... at all. Western Ave Grill is good but very simple, plain, nothing exciting. Good Harbor Grill is your only choice if you want something creative, healthy, fresh, and delicious! I really love this place. I had a soup there a couple weeks ago that was to die for. I called the restaurant yesterday and the woman that answered the phone had actually invented the soup! She told me all of the ingredients and I have it cooking on the stove now. Stopped here for lunch after visiting the Sleeping Bear Dunes, and enjoyed a relaxing meal on the patio. The menu has good variety which is always welcome, especially in a "touristy" destination where it might be easier for restaurants to get away with cutting corners. I enjoyed a portabello mushroom wrap, which was nicely prepared with herbs and gorgonzola cheese... definitely a cut above what I'd expected. Service was laid back and friendly... this is a solid lunch spot, and I'd be eager to return for dinner if I'm back in the area. read more
