The pork sui mai had thin skin but the filling had a filler which made the filling hard instead of fluffy. I will not buy from here again. My mom's favorite place to get Ha Gow (Shrimp Balls) even though she's allergic to shrimp They put sweet garlic in them that makes for the best ones anywhere hands down. The aunties serving you are all kind and patient, even with my partial spoken Chin-glish. Order in 3's like my grandparents taught me you'll be alright! Those huge rice tamales (Nu Mai Gai?) wrapped in lotus leaves are great to warm you up in this cold weather. This is one of my favorite place to go for dim sum in the Richmond for many years. I like to go early in the morning to avoid the long lines. Good, fresh, delicious and price friendly dim sum. I always order the congee with fermented eggs and shredded pork. It's a must for hangover in the morning! lol When entering there's paper menus on your right. You can circle the items and handed to the server. Please be nice to the ladies because they work really hard and language barrier is a challenge. I stick with the usual, shrimp dumplings, chicken shu mai, shrimp rice noodle, and chicken feet! Don't bring your credit cards because it's cash only. There are a few tables in the back for dine in, but I like it to go and drive to the beach to enjoy my dim sum with a view of the Pacific Ocean! This was a bit out of the Chinatown area and we were curious. Since we wanted to walk through the Presidio, we visited this cafe. Order and pay at counter, there are tables and chairs inside to consume. Very clean! We had all 3 shiumai types. Chicken was super dense and too lean. We liked the beef and pork ones. Couldn't tell them apart after a few :) The dried shrimp rice roll was drier than expected but tasty and the texture was enjoyably chewy. The charshiu bun was very good, with a fluffy bun. Came out of the steamer but got cold fast, should eat first. The egg yolk bun was sold by piece, and although the custard inside was yummy, we expected a different style with a granite yolk inside. The harkow was filled with shrimp and the skin was thin and complemented well. Sweet soy sauce and chilli sauce on the table. May need to bring my own vinegar the next time. Only problem here is that the skin is very thick like blubber. $1.60 each. White Honeycomb Cake (A) - A very traditional take on this dish, naturally sweet, spongy, soft, and enjoyable. $1 each. Literally love this place so much, I've already been twice over the course of three days. The first time I got a significant number of items and it was only 8 dollars. The second time I really went all out and the total only came to 19 dollars. The cheapest place you can find in SF, honestly. Just remember to bring cash and figure out what you want before you go in because it can be a bit overwhelming. I went on a Wednesday and then Friday afternoon, and both times there was a very short line. It moved really quickly, and it is takeout only. I loved the tun cake, shrimp gow, steam bbq pork bun, and fried taro dumpling. The black bean rice cakes were great, better than the sesame balls in my opinion. The egg tart was spectacular. The sesame balls were the only item that I was underwhelmed by. They were just average, especially compared to how great everything else is. I also really wish they had pineapple buns and shrimp rice rolls, but they didn't have them either time. Really delicious Dim Sum! Usually the line for Good Luck Dim Sum is a relatively long line but today we were lucky to run into a short line. The order was quick and accurate. We got the Steam B.B.Q. Pork Bun, Pork Siu Mai, Shrimp Dumpling, Shrimp Taro Dumpling, Chive Dumpling w/ Shrimp, Turnip Cake, Deep Fried Taro Root, Fried Sesame Ball. Everything was delicious. My favorite was the Turnip Cake. My friend's favorite was the Shrimp Dumpling. The flavors were perfect, the food wasn't overly salty. Price was very reasonable, about $40, for the food we ordered. The also offered a good amount of sauces. Right now, they only offer takeout. We took our food over to the Golden Gate Park and devoured the food there. I stopped by Good Luck Dim Sum with my husband and a friend this past weekend when we were in SF. It was the second of three stops on a snack/small bites crawl (rather than a lunch). We arrived around 2pm - there was still a short line (the line looks longer than it really is; we were outside the shop, but only the fourth or so group in line), but it moved fast. We tried their pork shumai, their potsticker, their crystal dumpling, and their Chinese chive dumpling. All were good but I think the crystal dumpling was my favorite! I came here to grab a bunch of goodies to eat at a park nearby and ordered lots of items such as har gow, shrimp taro dumplings, chive dumplings, baked bbq pork bun, sticky rice in lotus leaf, and spare ribs in black bean sauce. It is much more convenient to order by circling the items you want on the paper menu but since they ran out of pens, I just said the names and how many I wanted. The dim sum was pretty big in size with a good amount of greasy, fatty fillings and it was just what I expected for this popular mom and pop shop. My favorites were the har gow and fried dumpling balls (I think they were called lucky balls?). The texture of the fried balls were super glutinous and chewy and had tons of filling. I have zero regrets going to this wonderful dim sum place. Clement St. is awash with dim sum joints, but I really liked this one. The locals are very friendly in the line, and tell you what to do. The Shrimp dumplings were outstanding, and I really liked the Crystal Dumplings as well. soft, but not too gummy in texture. The show stopper for me was the chicken feet however. Perfectly cooked, with the best parts just falling of the bone with ease. I was not shy, I ordered 100 bucks worth of food, but there was SO much left, even with 3 adult women pigging out. Great bang for your buck, and great quality. Keep in mind this is a dim sum place, and their fare is usually to go. They have tables, but don't expect anyone running around offering water, etc. You're lucky there is a table. you'll get utensils and napkins in your bag, if you forget to buy drinks, you better have some with you, but if there is a table free, you don't have to wait to eat the delicious food. We paid in the front and the order was ready very quickly. Note that they only take cash. The dishes were decently sized, and we thought the turnip cake, deep-fried taro root, and shrimp dumplings were delicious. We didn't really vibe with what we think was the xiao long bao (soup dumplings) though, since the inside was the typical meat filling but the outside was more like a fluffy bao/bun and there was no soup. My friends had the chicken feet and thought it was okay, a little tough, but the portions seemed quite generous for a 1-lb order. Good Luck Dim Sum is the place to bring your very Chinese mother who may never openly praise you for your grades but will look at you with pride if you tell her about how much money you saved/an amazing deal you scored. This place is authentic, no frills, and cheap. Unfortunately, it's not quite fast because 1. Parking on/near Clement is a nightmare 2. It's pretty popular so there is usually a line. Most standard dimsum items (har gow, siu mai, fried sesame balls, bbq pork buns, etc) are $4 per order of 3. A few other things are $1.80/item or sold by the pound. I highly recommend figuring out what you want as you stand in line, because one you're at the counter the drill is to tell them what you want, hand over your cash (cash only!), and go. They do have a sit down area, but it looks small and I've never stayed. I've liked everything that I've ordered, and it's easy to feed 2 with around $20 even with their recent price increases in this economy. read more

Grandma was craving some dim sum for New Years and well, with COVID still ruining everyone's party, to go dim sum was the way to go. There are a couple options scattered through Richmond and Sunset but through and through, my family has always found Good Luck Dim Sum to be the best. Now, we weren't excited for the line especially since it was the opening weekend of Chinese New Year no less so we made an earnest attempt to call once they opened and got through! Score! We ordered a small smorgasbord to be picked up at 11:30am. Since we knew we were eating it fresh, we treated ourselves to a couple of their fried treats like the savory pork dumpling and fried taro dumpling. Both were absolutely divine! Loved that neither were the least bit soggy or oily which happens if you let it sit about. We also went with some of our traditional favorites - har gow, pork siu mai, and fun gor. They were all solid. Skins are not too thick, quality ingredients, and flavors on point - what more could you ask for? I was down the street from this Dim Sum place and decided to pick up some food since the reviews and photos on Yelp seemed promising (over 1600 reviews with an overall 4 star rating). My husband and I arrived around 1:45 pm on a Thursday and there was a small line outside. Eventually the line grew by the time I went inside to make my order at the counter (the line does seem to go by fast though so don't let that scare you). I ended up purchasing: Turnip Cake- I purchased 3 of these. I really love turnip cake, as it is one of my usuals that I get at dim sum. I thought they tasted just fine. The size of the 3 were slightly different from each other but that didn't affect taste. Sesame Ball- I purchased 2 of these. Loved the red bean paste in these sesame balls. Egg Tart- I purchased 2 of these. I actually did not end up eating any of these but my husband thought they were good. The crust was flakey, which is what we both like and prefer for our egg tarts. Shrimp Dumpling- I purchased 3 of these. This is another one that I typically like to order when I get dim sum. These tasted great and wished I had ordered more. Steamed BBQ Pork Bun- I just purchased 1 of these for a hungry husband. This bun was placed in a small plastic bag instead of the plastic to go container of the other items I had purchased. The bun was perfectly steamed and the barbecue pork inside was tasty (according to my husband since he was too hungry to share, lol). ------------------------------ (Total= $ 12.55) Please note that this place is CASH only. I was craving dim sum on a Saturday Afternoon and Good Luck popped up in my yelp search. You walk in (after 10-15 mins of waiting, depending on the day), state what you want in Cantonese or grab a pink menu and circle the items that you want. Come ready with cash and what you want to order, because they want you in and out fast, because more people need dim sum. I think during these covid times, 3 customers in at a time. I ordered a bunch of har gow/ shrimp dumpling (9pc), pork shumai (3pc), bbq buns (3pc) and fried taro dumpling(3pc). As you can see there is a pattern in the amount of pieces you can order. Some items you can order by itself but most ordered in increments of 3. Anyways, the har gow definitely hit the spot, splashed them soy sauce on it and MMMmmm, delishness. The pork shumai was quite big, meaty and had a dense bite to it, Mm. The bbq pork bun was nice and soft with a dash of sweetness in the meat, Mmhmm. The fried taro on the other hand wasn't my favorite, Meh. I mean, it was crispy but smushy and lacked flavaflav. Overall, cheap and delicious dim sum! The service is eh, what I expect at any other Chinese restaurant, not entirely great, but not too bad. Parking can be a hit or miss. We came here because Chase Luck was listed as closed on yelp, but we ended up going to whole foods later on and they were not closed. I guess they open on mondays if it is holiday. Parking was easy to find on monday, but still a decent line out the door. We got there around 9:30 am, and by 10 there was a long line after us. They have pink pieces of paper if you can't speak chinese that well, and you can mark off what you'd like and hand it to the ladies working inside. This method takes longer than telling them what you would like in person though. We got siu mai, ha gao, gau choi gau, lo mai gai, yau tiu, fong zhau, fan gor and pei dan sau yuk dzuk. Siu mai, shrimp dumpling, shrimp & chive dumpling, steamed glutinous rice, chinese donut, chicken feet, steamed pork and veggie dumpling and 1000 year old duck and pork porridge. I liked the chicken feet here a lot!! It has more of a sweet and sour taste here compared to other places. Everything else was also really good, except the chinese donut was fried a little too long and was too oily. We got enough food for 6 people for $60. Such a good deal ! read more
