Good Stuff Eatery is pure nostalgia for me, so there's no way it can get a negative review. I used to work on Capitol Hill and when news of Good Stuff Eatery opened, all the congressional staffers and lobbyists came here to get lunch. It was the place for a solid burger, fries and shake kind of meal. Plus, it doesn't hurt that it's affiliated with Spike Mendelsohn, a Top Chef finalist who owns the joint. Located on Capitol Hill, it's walking distance to all of the capitol office buildings, so expect a line of peeps getting their grub on during prime time lunch hours. There are two floors of seating inside, but again, it gets busy. My favorite combo is the Prez Obama burger, village fries and a toasted marshmallow shake. The Prez Obama burger includes horseradish aioli, onion marmalade, bacon and roquefort cheese, and is of course named after the president who would take his staff here for fine dining. Spike's village fries are an upgrade to your standard fries, as it includes rosemary and thyme, for some nice herbal kick, in addition to sea salt. And the toasted marshmallow shake is one for any s'mores lover. It's one of my favorite places to revisit every time I get back to the other Washington. Many fond memories at Good Stuff Eatery, specifically at this Capitol Hill location. It has expanded around the DC area since. read more

I was with a couple of friends in Washington D.C. and they recommended that I check out Good Stuff Eatery, so I did. Good Stuff Eatery is actually most notable for being a spot that President Obama would frequent when he was President. As a result, they have a burger named after him here! Upon coming in, there was a bit of a line, but I was helped after waiting for about five minutes. They have a number of complex burgers topped with all sorts of items, but I just went with a traditional burger with tomato on top. I ate outside with my friends as they have a large patio, which they share with a pizza restaurant, which are both owned by Spike Mendelsohn, a notable restauranteur in D.C. I found my burger to be fairly underwhelming for a place that specializes in burgers. The buns were also just picked out from the supermarket. I think they should have rolls that are fresh, fluffier and more unique. My chocolate milkshake was very good, though. It was nice and creamy with a nice pop of chocolate taste. The french fries were also solid. Altogether, if you are near Capitol Hill this is a nice restaurant to visit, but it's nothing extraordinary. read more

Burgers are some of the best in this area of DC. I like the different varieties and accommodations for dietary restrictions. There is a burger for everyone in the group. The burger was super juicy and they had so many choices of sauces to choose from. The service is pretty speedy as well even when there is a huge crowd. I have never waited more than 10 minutes for my burger and it was always cooked exactly how I requested. The only thing I don't like is the fries. I realize this is a personal preference. I personally think they are too greasy, dry, flimsy, and burnt tasting. The best way to make a burger place complete is the fries and these are an epic fail. Most times I go I see people throwing away half the bag of fries away. So def a waste of money to get the especially considering how much you are spending on the burger. Good burger...good shakes...seating outside very spread apart. My bf and I stopped here for dinner on our day biking around the city and it was a delicious choice. We ordered ahead and it seemed to be done right on time which was perfect because I was starving. There is seating all over the side of the entrance and they are generously spaced apart. I ordered the steakhouse burger with village fries and my boyfriend ordered the smokehouse burger with onion rings and we both got the milkshake of the month, which was coffee and amazing. First off, the prices were extremely reasonable. The milkshake was so creamy and thick, definitely made with good ice cream. My steakhouse burger was huge (I added bacon, lettuce and tomato) I could barely even make it half way. It was juicy even with it being well done ( I ordered it medium) and I could live off the village fries alone. His burger was pretty small compared to mine but it was well put together and tasted delicious. The onion rings were over fried and filled with grease so I would probably go with the fries if you visit. Is there ever a bad time for a milkshake?? I think not. Luckily Good Stuff did not disappoint. I got the cookies and cream milkshake, which was rich, creamy, and had lots of Oreo pieces. Very thick and utterly delicious (pun intended). A lot of the milkshake flavors are traditional and not too exciting, but I'll definitely be back to try more varieties. Also got the farmhouse burger and village fries. The burger was good, fresh tasting but maybe a little small for the price. Line was quite long when we got there but service was efficient and kept it moving. Coming from NY, I'm all about having my food prepped and handled carefully. It's disgusting to see the raw meat was left uncovered and when I snapped a picture, the cook then realizes to put its lid back on, only after 10 mins (from when I was standing there). The ladies making our shakes certainly had their caps on however one of them had long braids and it nearly dipped into my cup of shake; not only that, they just kept talking and hollering - God knows if spit was added into our shakes. We had 6 shakes (did not put in one of our shakes), 3 burgers (Colletti, farmhouse cheese and farmhouse cheeseburger), 1 turkey burger (they forgot to give this to us and did not bother telling us nor looking for us), 2 orders of village fries, onion petals and hand cut fries. Good Stuff Eatery has the potential but isn't fully there yet. I was give it 3.5 stars as far as food but the service has been great at each location. The Georgetown location is the best out of the nearby locations. However, the Capitol Hill location is just okay. I only say this because I've come and fries have been undercooked. The burgers have been cooked too long and are well done. Despite this, I think there are some really good choices here. They Prez Obama burger is by far my favorite. It comes with bacon, blue cheese, horseradish mayo, and a sweet onion marmalade. The flavors combine so well on this burger. The tartness from the blue cheese with the sweet onion taste... it's a must! There sunnyside burger is pretty good as well. The onion petals might be might least favorite as they're overly greasy. On one of my days when I got off work early during the spring I decided to check out a few places near Capitol Hill in DC. I pulled up Yelp and what do you know one of my bookmarks was close by as I was on the Metro orange line. Speaking of the metro. That is one of the good things about the location of Good Stuff Eatery (GSE). There are plenty of metro transportation stops to include Capitol South (closest stop), Potomac Avenue, Stadium Armory, and Union Metro that are all within walking distance of this place. If the Metro is not your preferred mode of course the DC Circulator and Metro buses have stops nearby. Parking is available but with this establishment being located on Pennsylvania Ave finding a spot can be a chore. The farm to table trend seems to be hitting all places and burger spots are not immune. That is a concept that GSE has adopted. In fact, they are so environmentally friendly you will be charged an environmental fee if you get you order to go. It is minimal. I never knew this place was started by a former Top Chef contestant until I walked in. I am always in pursuit of a good burger and there is a decent selection of their specialties. I will remind you that this is in the Capitol Hill area and it is a heavy tourist spot. I arrived around 2PM and the place was packed. You cannot help but notice the giant cowbell. I guess they took it to heart when it was said "We need more cowbell." There is a seating outside and the upstairs provides a place to sit also. Since it was a warm day I did the rarity of sitting outside after I ordered the farmhouse bacon cheese burger and a side of Spikes village fries (sprinkled with rosemary, thyme, sea salt). Despite the crowd my food came out in a decent amount of time. I looked at it and it was heavy on the cheese. I actually lifted my bun up to make sure bacon was there as it looked like a lava overflow of cheese on my burger. Yep the bacon was there. I ordered it medium and once I bit in it was cooked the way I wanted it. The burger was not bad but nothing special in my opinion. The vegetables were fresh and I left them on and I hardly leave veggies on my burger due to it getting the bread soggy. No issue with soggy bread here. The fries were seasoned well but once again nothing special. They were still hot when they came out to me but still a bit soggy and floppy. This place gets two stars from me. It is not bad but not good enough to make me want to come back. There are plenty of better burger places in the area that offer a more flavorful experience at the same price point. read more

On Friday, June 20, 2025 at 1:13 pm, I placed an online for a smash burger with fries and a banana foster shake. When I went to go pick up my order at 1:35 pm, the cashier at the counter said he had to go make my shake. Once he brought the shake to me, I noticed it has peaches in it. I told him that I ordered a banana foster shake. The cashier stated that they do not have the ingredients to make the banana foster shake and the shake of the month is peach. I was confused because when I placed my order online it had an option to select a banana foster shake. I was also upset because what if I was allergic to peaches? Once I got back to my job and ate my burger, it was REALLY salty and definitely not a smash burger. I was extremely disappointed. Plus, the shake I had did not have a good taste to it. It tasted like I was just drinking milk. I called several times on Friday to speak with someone about the situation, but no one answered the phone. The reviews are true. This place is very greasy. I ordered the spike sunshine, the spike village fries, and a toasted marshmellow shake. The burger was good. Not amazing, but good burger. I would say five guys is better. The egg yolk oozed out of the sandwich which was good. It is a real shame that they didn't even ask if it's in or out dining. By the time I got the sandwiches, it was wrapped up and crushed. It would had been nice to see the burger natural and fluffed up. The fries were a pile of grease, cramped into a small bag. I wouldn't recommend them. Didn't seem like a few fries were cooked. The shake was probably the best part of the meal. It was thick, very sweet, and did taste like mashmellow. There is plenty of seating upstairs and outside. Overall, I wouldn't come back. Would look for another burger joint in DC. read more

Good stuff, indeed! I ordered The Melt burger to-go and it was better than good- it was amazing! The potato bun was soft and light, the patty was thick and perfectly seasoned, and all the gooey melted cheese with grilled onions and mushroom was earthy and smoky. It was about $11 for a burger. Compared to Shake Shack, Good Stuff Eatery is better because the beef patty was twice as thick. Also, the beef was fresh and juicy. I didn't order any fries because I felt full. There's a nice self-serve, free dipping sauce area that had some interesting choices, like mango. I took some to try even though I didn't have any fries. It was a sweet mayo flavor; the mango wasn't very strong. Another dipping choice that caught my eye was Old Bay. I'll definitely get fries next time to try the variety of sauces. read more

If you want "good stuff," go to We, The Pizza instead. I love Top Chef and have been meaning to try this place for a while now, but Good Stuff Eatery just wasn't up to snuff. I ordered the Farmhouse Cheeseburger ($6.95) and added the Snack Fry and Mini Shake ($6.95) for good measure. $14 plus a 1% environmental fee gets expensive quickly for a burger and sides. Speaking of the extraneous environmental administration charge, the way they serve their food here can definitely be more environmentally friendly. Instead of asking you "for here or to go?" when you place your order, they ask you when your food is ready. Your answer to that question will determine whether they put your already bagged-up order on a tray, or if you just grab the bag and leave. I dined in and took my tray upstairs, where they have additional seating. And then I opened by paper bag, unwrapped my burger from its wrapping, and emptied the fries out of their french fry paper bag onto my tray. Onto the food. When I unwrapped my burger, it looked like nothing special and tasted like nothing special. I later showed my sister a picture of my burger, and she called it a "sad-looking burger." The lettuce was soggy (not crisp), and the burger was bland and lacked texture. Fortunately, Good Stuff Eatery offers a variety of dipping sauces, such as Old Bay, Chipotle, and even Mango, to add flavor. Spike's Village Fries (fries with rosemary, thyme, and sea salt) were too heavy-handed with the herbs, and were unenjoyable. I found myself dusting the fries off and dousing them in ketchup and the Chipotle mayo. For the milkshake, I couldn't resist trying the Toasted Marshmallow milkshake, but again, I was unimpressed. The milkshake wasn't purely vanilla-tasting, but the toasted marshmallow flavor did not come through, and the single marshmallow in my shake (pictured) is hardly toasted at all. Unfortunately I finished my burger before I could take a picture. I got the good stuff melt burger which was nice and greasy. And then a side of fries with thyme. The fries and thyme looked a little burnt when they came out however once eaten taste like a good fry. I suggest trying out all the sauces. I've been to the Good Stuff Eatery in Georgetown and enjoyed it. I walked by this Good Stuff with a friend, and we decided to pop in for milkshakes. This location needs to work on their customer service. It was a simple order, two mini milkshakes. We wanted one mini Oreo without whipped cream and one mini Black Forest without whipped cream. We received an Oreo with whipped cream and a Black and White without whipped cream. And the fries were soggy as anything! I like French fries well done and crispy and the ones I got were leaking oil through the saran wrap. I can imagine this place may be good for people with hangovers as the grease could absorb all the alcohol. I truly think the best part of my experience was the unlimited fountain soda. I was so thirsty after the burger and fries that at least I drank till my hearts content. A few other notes....my burger was just under $10 and when I turned it into a combo, it came to $15. And then a couple bucks for a tip, it was a little pricey, but that's sort of the norm these days. They have an upstairs area to sit and eat with TV's. It's quiet here compared to all the action downstairs with people ordering and cooks grilling. I visited around 8 pm on a Saturday evening and there weren't any long lines. My order took about 10 minutes to prepare and they gave me a buzzer while I waited. Unfortunately Good Stuff Eatery was so disappointing. I can think of 5 amazing burger joints in NYC that would put this place to shame. But the following day I did enjoy the pizza at We, The Pizza. That's got to be some consolation....right? read more

The farmhouse is a classic, juicy burger and the burger options are unique enough to tempt any taste bud. Now on to the shakes: Some favorites are the black & white, caramel and marshmallow. Ok so I like all of them. I get the kids size or mini moo so I don't over indulge. Now the negatives: WHY on god's green earth would you get rid of the Vietnamese coffee shake, Good Stuff Eatery? Your customers need it back. This was one of the best shakes ever. A colleague took us to Good Stuff after a day of lobbying at the Capitol under the guise of it being President Obama's favorite burger shop.
