Two stars, because the food is good, but the service sucks. If there were half stars available, then two and a half. The people who work there all seem miserable and discontent with their lives, and at least on this busy lunchtime visit, had several friends loitering around, standing in front of the food pick up area, obstructing customers, and the employees who have to go in and out of from behind the counter.
Slightly out of place of the typical Capitol Hill eating atmosphere, but it's not a bad thing. Use of the old building is a little on the cramped side, but creatively done. More than anything, I love the people watching of places like this, because it's a good mixture of tourists, smarmy locals, and the "I work for the government, see my laminate/identification" drones. But my favorites are the D.C. joggers who jog over to Good Stuff, and completely defeat the purpose of their exercising, when they sit down to indulge in burgers, fries and shakes.
I had the burger that had bacon, barbecue sauce and an onion ring inside of it, I can't remember the name. At first, I thought that it was too small, but then I probably realized that was the gluttonous judgment coming out of me, and truthfully, after I was done, it was more than an adequate portion. The fries I was disappointed in, because apparently, I was given the bottom of the fry bag serving, which was nothing but overly-crispy, end chips and shards, and not so many intact fries. But the few that I did get, they're pretty much Five Guys fries clones.
Price is a little pricey. $12ish for burger, fries and a soda is pretty high, considering I can get the same satisfaction from Five Guys. Oh yeah, and there's a mysterious "envirocharge" that apparently all patrons are charged upon transaction; granted, it's barely 1% of your purchase, which is only a few cents, but still, I wasn't the only patron curious about it, and apparently those who work there aren't even sure how to explain it, I observed.
Location is cool, but parking is a nightmare, and at the mercy of pay-parking whether it's on the street, or at a lot if you can find one within a few blocks.
But as I said, it's the service that ruined it for me. I don't give a shit if the President's dined there, treat me poorly, and I don't forget it. Miserable employees, waits a little on the long side, and what really irritated me was that they prematurely triggered my pager, and when I arrived to the counter, naturally there was nobody there, and no actual food waiting. By the time did get my food, my three friends were already done with their food.
Good establishment, good food, but seriously needs a tune-up in customer service. For me good food can't make up for crap service, but good service can easily hide lesser quality food. read more
