I am new to Gustine and was craving Chinese food. My husband and I ordered on the phone, and it was 20 minutes before they called and let us know our order was ready (not too long of a wait). The person I spoke to was friendly and quick. Unfortunately I have never tasted Chinese food so bland in my life. The Chow Mein noodles were pale white and looked more like Fettuccini Alfredo. The Kun-Pao my husband ordered was just sautéed vegetables. We now will certainly drive as far as to Turlock to eat good Chinese food. :/ read more

My wife and I just had dinner here and were pleasantly surprised. We saw the negative reviews but wanted to try for ourselves. We had the house rice and the house chowmein along with egg rolls, battered prawns and sweet and sour chicken. All were very good and we will be going back again. The only Asian cuisine option in town. Food is bland. I usually re-seasoned my chowmein at home. Also, can be overpriced. $8.75 for fried prawns!!! In Newman?? I only eat there when I'm craving some Chinese food and don't want to drive out to Turlock or Patterson so it will never be my first choice. read more

The one nice thing about the place is the variety of the menu selection ranging American to Chinese and even a mini ice cream parlor. I decided to go Chinese and went with my default choice for all new Chinese restaurants, the beef chow mein. I judge their culinary skills based on what they can do to that dish. I didn't expect much since the unappreciated beef chow mein is often overlooked at by the chefs and never the star and pride of the restaurant. Needless to say, I was not disappointed. They didn't win any brownie points either for their take-out box. I never understood the concept of why a metal handle is attached to a box that may need to be reheated in the microwave later. As expected, the noodles looked "colorless" and plain to me with no special seasoning or flavor to it besides the 1 packet of soy sauce given (if requested). The beef was thick cut and tender just the way I like it, not thin sliced like I've seen in some places. Having saying that, however, the beef was disappointly cut in small proportions, a sign that tells me they're from a small town and trying to stretch their budget. Thus, the reason why I gave them the additional star. This was the ONLY Chinese food in town or even in the nearby towns for that matter. So if you're in the area and craving for something other than burgers, pizzas, and Mexican, you have to stop here (not as a recommendation but what other choice do you have). read more

My aunt lives in town and we decided to try this place. I must say that I make better Chinese food at home and I'm Puerto Rican lol My LORD! Small portioned and tasteless! I will say that I did have a taste of my sister's linquica sandwich and milk shake.. was pretty delish.. wish I ordered that! We have been here for take-out, and we have also gotten delivery from them. We don't find the sit down area to be very appealing as far as ambiance, so we have never eaten in. They have a broad menu with both Chinese and 'American' food, and they also have a mini ice cream parlor, so you can get banana splits and scoops. The service that we've experienced has always been been timely and polite. The food is the problem here. The Chinese food does not actually have any flavor, it's so bland that it doesn't even taste like it's Chinese food, no authentic 'Chinese' flavors. I have never before tasted such watered down Chinese food, I was actually taken aback by this. It was a huge disappointment. The American food is also quite mediocre. The prices seem totally reasonable until you taste the food, and that's when you feel like you got duped. I don't find their prices to be reflective of the quality and goodness of the food at all, the prices should be so much lower for the poor quality that you find here. We gave them a few chances, but they have consistently proven themselves to be unexceptional. It's disappointing because it looks so good on paper with the variety to choose from, having ice cream sundaes and burgers delivered sounds so good, but alas, this place is not quite what it seems. read more

Tried twice and some good stuff and not so good....burgers are a lil dry....they make the food too greasy....my son likes the linguica sandwich but not chili geese fries and my grilled turkey and Swiss was nasty....the best part was the good fountain soda read more

I will have to agree with the other reviewers. Food is horrible. Ordered teriyaki chicken... was boiled chicken over rice with about a tablespoon of teriyaki on it. How do you mess up something so basic? I could have gone to Nob hill.. bought the ingredients myself and it would have been better tasting and cheaper than spending $12 on something inedible. read more

love their hamburgers, chinese food. Asparagus shrimp w/black bean sauce yummy. Type of chinese cooking is awesome, different from other ones I've had. The egg rolls & foil chicken are 2 die for. Try the house won ton soup as a starter & have them add noodles its so yummy, w/lots of veggies and meat. I know they are very clean there, and the quality of their ingredients is good, you can tell by the taste its not old meat, or old veggies like some other chinese restaurants and the owners Evelyn & Thomas are awesome people. read more

A friend brought home takeout from this place after reading the Yelp! reviews. The food was good, but the prices were WAAAAY too high! My order of pork fried rice and cashew chicken came to $20, but according to the menus shown in the pictures it should have been under $14 before taxes. Just ordered over 50.00 worth of take out. Specifically asked for homemade hot mustard on phone and in person. Was told it was in the box. Not!!! Also, half the food was barely warm, and the fried prawns were cold and the batter was as hard as a rock. Was given 2 fortune cookies, like only 2 people were going to eat 50.00 worth of food (6 quart size containers). I have ate here for several years, and it seems the quality and the quantity of food has gotten worse as the prices has increased! Not sure if I will try it again!! Good Times serves both Chinese and American food. I have only tried a few dishes here, and so far it's OK. The Chinese food isn't the best, but the chicken chow mien is pretty good. The pot stickers and egg rolls are also good. I tried the orange chicken and it tasted like sweet and sour sauce. It was OK, but nothing special. I have also tried a steak from there and it was way over cooked. One nice thing about the place is that it delivers, so sometimes my husband and I will just order chicken chow mien and pot stickers. Don't order broccoli and beef. You will only receive 3 to 4 small pieces of beef. This is my second experience with this. First time I just let it go thinking it wasn't on purpose. Many people in town have talked negatively about this place and how they don't add much meat to dishes. I totally understand now what the talk is about. Never again order from this place. read more

Honestly, I dislike their Chinese food don't waste your time with it unless you love plain tasteless Chinese food. As one of the previous posters mentioned, they could use a little more spices and seasonings to give everything more flavor. Their American menu is a whole lot better than the Chinese side. Great Diner style burgers. I would pass on ordering any of their "deli" sandwiches as they are something you could easily make at home for less $$$. When we have a hankering for burgers and fries, the bacon swiss is the one. Their home delivery is great. They are VERY prompt!! read more
