We're from NJ/NY, so this style of pizza is part of who we are, we just know GOOD pizza. And we wanted to love this place, but we just don't. The sauce is actually really good. Not too sweet, not bitter, not salty- just really good, which is essential for good pizza. But the dough isn't good at all. The crust is way too thick to be considered true NY style, and there's no crunch to the crust on the end, it's just so doughy, even if you ask them to cook it longer. The cannolis were terrible. The shell was horribly stale and the filling was so bland. The extra long breadsticks are ok and they did come with a side of sauce, which again, is the only really delicious thing they've done right here. My husband got a calzone once and I've never seen him so disappointed. Absolutely nothing like a traditional NY style calzone. They have no idea how to cut a pie either. The few times we've ordered, the slices are all wonky and not even close to be equal. We've tried this place a few times but we just can't get on board. They need to head out East and see how to really make NY style pizza like they claim to do. read more

They heat the pizza for you before serving. You can also order speciality pizzas off the menu. The service is quick and friendly. You can either eat at the counter, take it to go, or eat in the Wiseguy Lounge upstairs. All in all a great experience! read more

A 28 Minute Sandwich I stopped in for lunch, only to watch a line of people who ordered after me get their food first. The service was abysmal, like what you would expect from two unsupervised, disgruntled, high school kids. After 20 minutes of waiting, I asked where my sandwich was, and if it was supposed to take 20 minutes. They said "yeah, or longer." I've worked in restaurants, and no sandwich cooked in an oven should be longer than 10 minutes from scratch. This place is definitely my new hangout in Main Strasse. First of all, they have regular hours, which is more than I can say for Lucy Blue or Fatty Patty's. And to walk in and grab a hot slice of great NY style pizza any time you want is awesome- the only downfall is that that slice might not have just popped out of the oven, which is why I only am giving it 4 stars instead of 5. If you want the best pizza around, call ahead and order it. A note on their large pizza: it's so freaking big, Jimmy Hoffa might be buried under it-no lie, you have to tilt the box to get it through your front door. Now- if you REALLY want your mind blown, order the calzone! Pure heaven! The crust is crispy on the outside, but warm and soft on the inside, and when you order it with your favorite ingredients, it will always be fresh, and so good that I rarely even use the dipping sauce. Also, the upstairs bar is staffed with some of the BEST bartenders I have ever met. Fun, friendly, and BEYOND knowledgeable on their mixology. As a former bartender myself, even I am impressed with their huge selection of bourbons and other not-so-typical liquor and drink selection. (Pimm's Cup, anyone?) It's a great place for a casual date on a weeknight, and always fun on the weekends if you're not into loud obnoxious club scenes. An EXCELLENT pizza experience found at this place! Yay! One step in the door, you've seen the place...entirely. Yes, it's that small. Maybe 14' wide and 25' deep (incl kitchen, ovens, counter and cashier)- with a speakeasy bar upstairs called "Wiseguys", unfortunately not open during lunch through the week as I wanted a cocktail. We informed one of the two workers we were first timers and found them via Yelp. He went over the menu, his faves and their best sellers. You can pick a premade slice, which is tossed back in the oven, a bread stick and soda for $6 speacial most times. We selected a small specialy 'named' pie - the Immigrant, two bread sticks and she a soda. Our vegetarian "Immigrant" pizza came with spinach, mozz, riccotta, red onions. OK, I've long ago told you I'm your typical paleo meat eating red blooded guy. Why the herbo pizza? - I'm not opposed to herbivores or veggie pizza when tasty and done properly - and besides we've got a fair amount of veg-heads in the family. Our Immigrant pizza was simply smashing. Abso-fabulous. The bread sticks were oversized 16-18" long, folded in half so more manageable on a plate but still humongous. We added lots of garlic salt and parmesan to everything, since we're weird like that. $20 not counting the tip money for the Karma Jar. They did us up right! And yes, we'll be back. Who am I to argue with half price pizza on Mondays? Cuz a slice just isn't enough for a girl like me. Pair that with a $3 stick of garlic bread that was seriously like three feet long and took up two plates when folded in half, and I'm a happy girl. Yup, my friend and I were able to rock a pizza, breadstick, and two pops for $11. Cheap, delish lunch. The garlic bread was beyond carb heaven, and the cheese pizza had the perfect amount of fresh cheese, tasty sauce, and was not burnt to a crisp (seriously, pet peeve of mine when the crust is so hard you can knock it on the table). The service was quick and friendly, and although the seating inside was limited, we were able to grab a table outside. Def a great lunch option for any carb lover. read more

We were in northern KY, and some friends had been here and suggested we try a slice of pizza for dinner. Ummmm...excuse me? A SLICE? For DINNER? No, we get a pizza and split it, I suggested, They said trust us, a slice will be enough. So, I went, and ordered a slice of pizza (Cheesesteak), a breadstick, and a soda. Holy cow, this is a LOT of food. I'm a big eater, and, even to me, this was a LOT of food. Not only was it a more than ample serving of food, it was some of the best pizza I've ever had, anywhere. Add to that a staff that was friendly and helpful to someone who had never been there before, it was an overwhelmingly positive experience. Came in with a local expecting a simple pizza place but I received so much more! Yesterday a local took me around Covington and Cincinnati to find places tp visit during bridal party weekend. Good fellas is on the must list and I haven't even had the pizza yet!! Was it the loft setting, the open bi level patio, the fantastic way the Bar captured modern and old fashioned at the sametime, or was it the charismatic bartender that has a flair for drama, or maybe it was large assortment of bourbon?? Another trip to Goodfellas and I realized I haven't reviewed this place. I'm not sure why there are always people outside the door wondering if they want to eat here who doesn't love pizza, breadsticks and beer?! The fact that you can get pizza by the slice is one of the big appeals of this place. No need to worry if you and others need to decide on the same kind, although I do believe they will let you choose two kinds when ordering a whole pizza. This is a place that makes great use of their outdoor space to provide sitting on the first and second levels and a couple tables on the sidewalk. If you're ordering slices, you'll quickly figure out how to juggle your paper plates and doorknobs as you exit the building. If you order a whole pizza you get to enjoy delivery. read more

Goodfellas reminds me a pizza restaurant in Philly. Giant, hot and fresh pies. Full of flavor. The Bootlegger and Taste of Naples are two of my favorites. My husband and I will sometimes order whole pies when we don't feel like cooking. Not in the mood to kill off a whole pie. No worries, plenty of pizza by the slice here. The slices of pizza here are always fresh and never sit around for long. Not with us pizza lovers around anyway. During lunch you can come in a get a slice, a soda and a side for $6. Six bucks for a big slice AND a side. It's plenty to fill up on. They have a decent size patio out back to sit at if the weather is nice. And a cool bar upstairs if ready for happy hour. read more

I found it! It took me almost two years of living in Cincinnati, but I finally found it! Admittedly, it's my fault for taking so long to find the best pizza in the area. Cincinnati has lots of above average-to-good pizza places, so I'd grown complacent. After deciding to wander around Mainstrasse to find dinner one night, the smell of Goodfellas drew us in. We walked in and ordered two pies. I was expecting to lean on a counter and stare at the wall... turns out they have beer on tap (good beer, too!), a huge TV, and barstools everywhere. I've never been so happy to wait for food. Anyway, the pizza.... amazing! I'm from the east coast and this is not only the best pizza in Cincinnati but would be near the top of the list in Boston or NYC. They're not reinventing the wheel here, just using quality ingredients and actually caring about providing an exceptional product. I've tried most of their specialty pizzas and the only bad thing I have to say is that it's frustrating wanting six different pizzas but only ordering one. There is also an incredibly pleasant added bonus at Goodfellas. With the casual NYCish atmosphere inside, I'd still get food here even if the staff was a bunch of jerks. Total opposite. A bunch of down-to-Earth guys who care about the customer, care about the product, and have a friendly, laid back attitude. They're happy to talk about their menu, shoot the breeze, or just get you on your way to enjoying a slice in 60 seconds. Between the beer, the TV, and the awesome staff, I almost wish they weren't so efficient at producing the food. (Not to mention that the place is spotless. It looks like it was just opened yesterday. Huge props for being stunningly clean.) I've never been to the bar upstairs, but based on the reviews here and the experience downstairs, I'm just assuming it's awesome and know I'll hang there sometime and be happy. Goodfellas Pizzeria is the place to go to get your money's worth of dough, sauces, spices, and meats. They create as-big-as-your-body pizzas, which you can buy in its entirety or by the slice, with premade/pre-created or custom options. I visited on a Saturday and even then, they offer the $6 Lunch Meal Deal. I ended up getting a slice of pepperoni (as big as my head) and a breadstick (as long as my arm). The pizza was thin and delicious. The ingredients were not overwhelmingly thrown on, so the grease level was minimal and the pizza was easy to eat. There is nothing worse than getting a pizza soaked through and destroyed with excess grease - it just takes away from the real taste! The breadstick was similarly a larger than life portion. My piece was covered in the excess toppings (spices/garlic), and I ended up having to wipe most of it off before eating. With the breadsticks, they provide multiple dipping sauces (marinara, garlic butter, ranch, etc.). I was able to try both the garlic butter (amazing!) and the marinara. The marinara tasted very sweet. It reminded me of a sweet sauce option you get with Chinese food, rather than actual marinara. It was also watery in consistency and just very questionable; it definitely was not the same sauce they use for the pizzas. Overall, however, this is a great deal for $6. You can also get a salad or dessert instead of a breadstick and soda or beer instead of water. I highly recommend stopping by if you are in the mood to binge eat some carbs / love pizza! read more

Nothing makes me happier than a cheap and delicious meal. My boyfriend and I had a bad experience at another restaurant so we ended up walking the streets of Covington trying to find somewhere good to eat and we came across this place. We both were super excited to see that they served pizza by the slice and it was only $3 for a MASSIVE slice. One slice was the perfect portion that had us both feeling comfortably. We went upstairs to a very nice lounge and grabbed a drink called the "Curse of Curves" and it was one of the best drinks that I have ever had. It was incredibly refreshing, ice cold and had a wonderful citrus flavor. I am newly 21, so it was one of my first experiences at a bar and the bartender was incredibly nice which made me feel very comfortable. Overall, I had a wonderful experience and will definitely be returning whenever I am back in Covington. read more

We were driving back to Florida after spending some Holidays in Detroit with my family. Covington itself is a beautiful little town in Kentucky just across the river from Cincinnati. We were thrilled to have such a quaint little town so close to a big city. Goodfellas Pizzeria was the perfect leg stretch as we continued south. They have a cool lounge area upstairs but the floors had just been redone so we did not go up to take a look. Goodfellas has a small selection of beers and some on tap. Since we were road tripping, we did not get to sample the beers. I cannot recall if there was anything local or extraordinarily interesting. The pizza was very good. The huge slice lived up the the necessary bigness required for anything New York. The staff was friendly and cool. They pretty much played all the best Beatles songs ever recorded. We got the lunch special. I was like 6 or 7 bucks for a slice, soda, and side. We each got a slice of pepperoni and then we shared our sides. AlexB+1 got a canolli and I got the caprese salad. Both were so-so, probably only 3 stars as far as quality goes, but they were A-OK nonetheless and we also just came for pizza, so getting a little extra with the salad and dessert was a plus. Also pizza places are not generally going to have powerhouse desserts the way a 5 star restaurant would, so relatively speaking, the sides were pretty good. But back to the pizza. I also got a jalapeno chicken pizza. It was very good. Overall the pizza was probably 4.5 stars, provided you like NY style. Side note, they did not heat up the pizza enough in the oven and we did have to ask for some extra heat. They got it all good and gooey for us without hassle or attitude. It helped that it was not very busy. The 4.5 star rating for the pizza does not kick in until it is properly gooey! The staff and atmosphere make Goodfellas Pizzeria a solid 4 star. Wait, I've not reviewed this yet? How is that even possible?!?! I've been loving Goodfellas since my college days at UK in Lexington, KY, so it's no surprise I was practically beating down the door waiting for them to finally open (obviously several years ago, hence my first sentence of this review). So so so glad we have not one, but TWO locations here (check out the OTR one as well). The pizza is phenomenal, and you absolutely MUST get a humongous breadstick with Alfredo for dipping. Head upstairs to the Wiseguy, a speakeasy-like bar, where you will find a a top-notch assortment of craft beers. But where they really shine here are the cocktails and bourbon. Those people behind the bar are more than just bartenders. They are mixologists in every sense of the word, and not only will they make up a drink for you that will tantalize your tastebuds, but they will also entertain you while they make it! All the staff here are wonderful, and the music being played here is always awesome which just adds to the atmosphere. Everyone here is a pleasure to work with, all the way up to the owners, who have assisted a non-profit I work with in hosting an event. Whether you're in the mood for lunch (a lunch special of a slice, breadstick, and drink is only like $6-7), dinner and drinks, just drinks, or a late night snack after a night on the town, Goodfellas is the way to go. I have had GoodFellas before during festivals here in CVG and thought the world of it. It has always been hot, fresh and cooked perfectly with a lot of value in the price. Having said that, after some anticipation awaiting their grand opening, I went last night (Friday night at 11:30p). I was SO disappointed with the pizza. When I walked in there were about four or five people ahead of me ordering so I had some time to decide what I wanted to order by looking through the glass warmer case. Looking over the pizzas in the display it was clear none of them had recently come out of the oven. I ordered a slice of pepperoni and a slice of a mixture of things, one of them being shrimp. When it came time to ring me up the guy who plated my pizza told the cashier $3 and $5, an indication of the price to ring me up with. He told him not once, not twice but three times because the cashier was so engaged in conversation with the folks who had paid ahead of me that he didn't hear the prices. Finally he realized I had been waiting there to pay and he had to ask the other worker how much my order was. I wouldn't have minded if it was a matter of seconds but it was about a minute plus the few times the other guy tried getting him back on track to ring up myself and a couple others in line behind me. That was a little weak from a service standpoint but hey, it was 11:30 on a Friday so I wasn't expecting much by way of service. Now on to the value. I swear on anything holy that there was just one tiny piece of shrimp on my slice, that's it. I can't comprehend how they came up with that price point. If I would have known the cost before they plated it I would have ordered something else. Unfortunately it appeared to be the best of the "old" slices in the window so I chose it. They both tasted like they looked, barely warm with somewhat dried up sauce and cheese to match and a fraction as good as my previous experiences with GoodFellas. I'm left wondering: How is it possible that these guys can turn out a better product at a festival, cooking out of the back of a trailer, than when they have a full, brand new kitchen at their disposal? You have some improvements to make GoodFellas. Until you work out the kinks you've earned the name MediocreFellas, at best. read more

Staff is super friendly and they got some drafts always available in case you get thirsty waiting for your 22 inch pie. Recommend the Goodfella pie which is loaded with toppings. Finally got around to checking out Goodfellas pizzas! I have had their "by the slice" a few times but wanted to wait until I had one of their signature pies before I gave them a Yelp! review. So here we are.... Yesterday we got a small pizza called "The Immigrant" to go. Their "small" is still a solid 12" pizza which provided 6 reasonably sized slices. Plenty for 2 people! The Immigrant was DELISH! It was tomatoes, spinach, onion, ricotta. It was perfectly done and so tasty! The restaurant was buzzing on a Saturday night at dinner time with lots of to-go orders so I figured we had a while to wait and got a beer. I was happy to be wrong when our pizza arrived only after half a beer! I'm not complaining! So speedy! Definitely give these pizzas some attention next time you're looking for food down in Mainstrasse! read more

The pizza is delicious! I stopped by here on St. Patrick's day and ordered just a plain slice of cheese-- but devoured it in like a minute. This is a combined review of Wiseguy Lounge and Goodfellas Pizzeria because to me they are a great combo: Goodfellas Pizzeria: relative small space with stools along the wall for sitting - reminiscent of NYC pizzerias. Walking in the smell is the first thing you notice -amazing! I am from NY and it is hard to replicate NY style pizza, but this place comes close. Lots of different kinds of pizza and all the ingredients are fresh. This place is now in my top 2-3 pizza places in Cincinnati. I actually didn't spend much time down here (you can order food from the 2nd floor upstairs bar which is called: Wiseguy Lounge: towards the back of the pizzeria you will see stairs leading upstairs. Follow the signs up the narrow stairs and you will enter the Wiseguy Lounge. Similar size to the pizzeria. They have a few sofa chairs/love seat couches along the wall opposite the bar but get there early because there are only a few and they fill up (especially if you want to eat your pizza comfortably while enjoying drinks). Also have seating at the bar. Huge selection of bourbons (bar tender said they have 156 difference kinds) and they have a bourbon club - if you try 100 different kinds (including in mixed drinks) you get your name on a plaque on the wall. They also have a good selection of unique mixed drinks (think Japps, but they opened first). Overall had a great time and really enjoyed the pizza. But get here early if you want a seat. read more

Have you ever seen a slice of pizza with so much grease that you heard your arteries cry a little? I have. Did you take a bite anyway? I did. Not my worst Sunday afternoon. I paid $6 for the lunch special and had more carbs in a single meal than I had all week (a lie I've told before). The carbs were slightly less regretful than my last relationship, covered in more cheese than one should eat in a day, and saturated in enough grease to kill a small animal (the animal would die happy). The lunch special includes a slice of your choosing, a side, and a drink. For my side I chose the breadstick, which is roughly the size of a child's baseball bat. When ordering the breadstick, you'll be prompted to choose a dipping sauce. I usually choose the garlic butter, but have also dabbled in recreational marinara. If I see you at Goodfellas, I'm going to assume either 1) You're drunk. Or, 2) You hate yourself, at least a little bit. I won't judge you for either, and I'll likely be behind you in line. If eating your feelings at Goodfellas hasn't quite filled the void in your life, then simply walk upstairs to Wiseguys Lounge where the seasoned bartending staff can recommend a whiskey on the rocks to help you forget about the woes in life that currently plague you. The pizza is delicious. The location is prime. The staff is...well...I think after serving so many drunk customers, they just assume everyone is drunk and treat them accordingly. A little customer service refresher definitely couldn't hurt, but generally speaking, the service is par for the course. I tend to find that the bar-staff really has their customer service game down and are eager to make an educated whiskey-recommendation based on flavors that you enjoy. Have gone here many times. I really don't recommend straying from their house pizzas. If you make your own, it's nothing to write home about. I always get frustrated when I tell someone to check this place out, stress to try the house recipes, don't listen and I can tell they aren't as impressed as I am. Fuhgetaboutit is the best. My favorite pizza ever, and can't ever get enough. Even if you don't like pizza with everything, you have to try this. It's not overloaded, but strangely perfectly balanced. Wiseguys bar upstairs is fantastic. They are always changing their cocktails, and we've tried about a dozen of them over the last year, and it constantly keeps us talking about just how good they are. This place has the best mixed drinks I have ever had. One of their latest had a gigantic pineapple ice-cube seasoned with cloves, I think it was placed in tequila or gin with a little mint. Never had anything like it and would definitively order again. That's just one example. read more

I like this place. It worries me that it might overwhelm Lucy Blue, which I also like, but the pizza is undeniably good. The upstairs bar is also pretty cool, although very small. It has a classy atmosphere. I've been to Goodfellas numerous times, and it's always been a good experience. Having Bell's Two-Hearted on tap is also a plus. You can always count on Goodfellas for a slice of New York style pizza late night. The pizza is made from fresh, hand-tossed dough and high quality ingredients. I am a big fan of their Margherita pizza, which has juicy tomato slices and freshly cut basil. Their breadsticks are honestly pretty basic, a foot long strip of seasoned pizza dough that can be dipped in marinara or garlic sauce. If you're not stopping upstairs for a drink at wiseguys, it's really more of a grab-and-go location rather than a sit down joint, but they do have a few tables and high top seating. This is pretty much the style of most Goodfellas locations I've been to aside from their huge warehouse space in Lexington. read more

It was a little confusing when we first went in because the downstairs is just a pizza counter - which is all well and good, and the guys working there were super friendly. But upstairs is where it's at! The bar is awesome!! And the bartenders are super nice and knowledgable too. I'm pretty sure they had at least 10 beers on tap, a bottle selection, tons of bourbon, and some cider. They also have a great cocktail list, and most of them are just $6 - that's a steal compared to a lot of other bars these days. I had The Capo, which was essentially a Pimm's Cup with rye whiskey - it was amaaaaazing! I also had the Audrey Hepburn, which was fruity and delicious too. We found ourselves some seats on couches next to Christmas light-adorned windows overlooking Mainstrasse, with a nice view of the Bengals game on a big screen too. It was so comfy and cozy!! There's no table service so you just order at the bar, they give you a number, and bring your pizza to you. We got an artichoke, spinach, sundried tomato and sausage pizza, and it was heavenly!!! Close to, if not THE best pizza I've ever had. The ingredients were fresh and very good quality. Everything about this place was good quality. At one point I wanted to smoke so I went out the exit on the second floor, hoping for a small balcony to shiver on and instead found myself a huge, brand new looking multi-level deck with extensive seating and heaters too!! I eat here at least once a week. Definitely my go-to for pizza, and their lunch special is so great it's hard to pass up even when not in the mood for pizza. The pizza is fresh, satisfying without being heavy, has great flavor and is reasonably priced. Their salads are crisp, freshly prepared and the beer is always served at the perfect temperature.
