Excellent food and drinks, specially the cheese beignets, lobster rolls, oysters, colossal crab maison and the espresso martinis. We had a 5:30pm reservation and while two of our party did not arrive until six, almost the moment we were seated, we were constantly reminded and rushed throughout our time there, with the staff citing there was another reservation at 7pm. Rudest thing ever. I even told the host upon arrival that the rest of my party was running a bit late and I was happy to wait to be seated to which he responded that he was happy to go ahead and seat us. While I appreciate prompt service and attentiveness, and it was annoying enough that our server Olivia returned to the table on on numerous occasions to ask if we were going to (not if we were ready to) order dinner, other staff would quickly clear dishes from the table, often reaching across in mid-sentence of our conversation without respect or regard. Twice we had to let them know that we weren't quite done with the plate. At 6:48pm Olivia returned to the table to inform us that the next party would not arrive until 7:30pm. Rude again and all the while the staff is briskly clearing empty glasses and somewhat empty plates. Our original plans were to order dinner, however with the constant reminder that we were only welcome until 7pm, we decided against it. It was a very frustrating experience that could have been handled with much better customer care, even considering the booth next to us arrived before our party and were still dining leisurely when we left. I left with a very bad taste in my mouth and am quite certain I will not return. Find a better way, Goodwins. read more

We have been to Goodwin's a few times now. The service has gone from good to great which just shows they're working out any sort of kinks and getting the right people in place which everyone knows how difficult it can be to hire good people in any industry, let alone the service space. We started off with drinks in the bar area while waiting for our table and then decided since it was a late reservation we should get an appetizer so we went with the meatballs. Not what I was expecting but in a good way. The flavors of the harissa and tzatziki combined well together. Would recommend them. Next we decided to share a blue cheese salad which was great. The summer tomatoes that came with it were excellent and brought it together. My wife had the filet and I had the strip. Both were great but i think the strip might have been the best strip I've had. Cooked to perfection. Flavor amazing. Great seared crust on the fat on the outside. Not a single bite was bad. Wish I had saved room for it so I could've had the entire thing but instead I was able to take it home and have it with some fried eggs for breakfast. We came for a belated birthday dinner and attempted to get sat early but unfortunately they could not accommodate but rest assured there was plenty of room to grab a drink at the main bar OR the speakeasy style bar (which is where we killed about an hour). The speakeasy is a nice touch of moody ambiance to the main restaurant and bar that has a more classic and open / glamorous feel. It's nice to have a place to drink and kill time while waiting for a table. We tried a handful of drinks including the Pickle Martini, Pepper Martini, Dirty Martini, Siesta, and the Espresso Martini (w/ tequila) - everything was great! When we dined we split a handful of items including the Oysters, Chicken Meatballs, Burger and Pierogies. Again, everything was amazing and we will definitely be coming back! Looking forward to our next visit. As a bonus, we met Matt, one of the founding members of the restaurant who helped create the cocktail menu.. he gave us amazing recommendations on drinks, other restaurants, AND a great round of tequila shots - he's a gem! read more

2x diner and enjoyed both evenings. First, love the zucchini appetizer. Rest of table raved about their appetizer choices so try one. Main I go for French dip but here, steak is better choice. One of my favorite new restaurants along Greenville Avenue. It's the spot that used to be a Mexican restaurant and now it's more of continental cuisine. Served in a cool environment. I went with a party of six on a Friday evening, and the service was perfect. The food was spot on and had appetizers and then main course and a dessert. All were very reasonably priced for the quality of the cuisine. I have already recommended this place to some friends who are coming to town. The drinks I tried were tasty and just the right amount of liquor. The food is a little more elevated, and some quirky options, but it's all balanced and offers a good variety for anyone at the party. I'd like to go back and try different things. We've been to Goodwin's several times now. The rigatoni genovese is probably my favorite dish in Dallas. This time we went they had a kid's rigatoni with a cheese sauce. My daughter loved it and literally ate more in one sitting than she's ever eaten before. Drinks are great, tiny bit on the strong side but still balanced. Service has always been fantastic. I've dined here multiple times and when I came to wait standby this evening the host shook his head rudely and offered no options for seating other than sitting at the bar where dinner was not being served. Goodwin's has become my new favorite spot in Dallas! We've been coming here once a week and have never left disappointed. The waiters are always knowledgeable and friendly, and the menu has options for everyone. I would recommend making a reservation if possible, but we've also walked in on the weekend and have been able to get a table after a bit of a wait (which was not an issue because we headed over go Goose Bar for happy hour - $10 martinis from 4-6pm!). SALADS: Butter Lettuce Salad & Bleu Cheese Salads were ok, nothing special. La Vista Club Salad was overly dressed to the point of being inedible. MAINS: Pork Chop was good. Strip Steak was cooked as ordered, however, most of it was pretty tough (my bad for ordering steak at a non steak restaurant). SERVICE: Attentive and knowledgeable staff, however our Server could not read the table and kept trying to take a Dessert order multiple times when half of the group still were working on their dinners. We actually had to tell her to stop trying to take our dessert order while we are still eating. OVERALL: Average experience. Our waiter was very cool and sweet. I ordered Caesar salad and it was DELICIOUS. My boyfriend ordered a burger. I got my cheese on the side and he got tomatoes on the side and we switched. Would recommend adding tomatoes to your salad if you get it! Went for lunch on a Saturday and some of the waiters were joyously watching the SMU game from the bar. This place is amazing! Austin does it again. Spectacular upscale spot that is much needed on lower Greenville. The ambiance is very unique and super nice. They have a side bar "Goose Bar" next door that is dimly lit and has $10 happy hour martinis and small bites. The open floor dining room is lively and very comfortable. It can accommodate a ton of people. The food was amazing, we shared the cheese bignets, zucchini chips, and lil rippers for apps. I got the burger, one of the best I've had in Dallas. The steak is fantastic and the fries are delicious as well. Drinks are well poured and a large cocktail list that's very creative. They even have the best marketing strategy in the men's bathroom....GOLF TEES. This will be a staple in the neighborhood. read more

We've been to Goodwins multiple times now and the food and wine has been excellent on every occasion. However, we went last night for my wife's birthday, and I have never been more frustrated with the service. They were clearly on a mission to turn the table as fast as possible, despite our request to course the menu and not rush us. Within 45 minutes, we had all appetizers, salads and main course. They were picking up plates before we were done with a course and the server literally dropped our check off half way through the main course. To the manager, please take note and dial it back. This is a neighborhood joint, as you say. Let's actually deliver on the friendly service and not focus on turning tables. We will debate coming back. So much for a celebration...... Environment - 9/10. Gorgeous surroundings. We visited on a quiet weekday evening, but it wasn't difficult to figure out that Goodwin's gets super loud when it's full. Most of the music was really good, but a few of the songs were less than optimal. Cocktails & Wine - 7/10. Very imaginative cocktails, crafted to perfection. However, pours were on the lighter side overall. Passable wine selections for the masses, even if not terribly diversified. Food - ??/10... this is where it really starts to get tricky. We opted for an all-starters experience so can't comment on the mains. It would probably be more helpful to go through what we tried one by one: Tuna Cones ('01 or whatever they're called) - 10/10. Easily the best item we tasted. A brilliant symphony of savory, sweet, creamy, salty, acid, crunch, and tenderness. Cannot say enough good things about this amazing dish. We'd come back if only for a cocktail and a set of these delicious little guys. Crispy Zucchini Chips - 4/10. Would have rated much higher if the principle sauce had been served as a dip to suit the taste of each patron. You're never going to get it exactly right squirting it on top. Crudo - 2/10. When it comes to crudo, you really just need to buy the best, freshest fish that you possibly can and let it speak for itself. Price it accordingly or don't offer it at all. The fish we tasted here was fair at best, and the hot peppers and grapefruit slices were merely distractions. You really shouldn't need garnishes beyond salt and olive oil with a solid fish offering. Gruyere & Parm Beignets - 10/10. Holy cow -- literally. These little morsels must have Anthony Bourdain doing a happy dance in the heavens up above. Give them a try. You won't regret it. Chicken Kofta Meatballs - 7/10. These are difficult to pull off in the kitchen. So much so that I am surprised they're offered as much as they are. But Goodwin's does a very decent if imperfect rendition with a combination of sauces that really make the grade. Colassal Crab Maison - 6/10. Crab very fresh and a relatively generous portion, but not terribly inspired otherwise. Lil' Rippers - 1/10. Disappointingly recommended. Consisted of three tiny, spicy mini hot dogs served both in and on top of soft mini-buns with gherkin pickles and tomato slices. Tasted like something from a sports arena, only substantially worse. They need to be removed from the menu yesterday. Detracted from the overall experience significantly. read more
