Gordon Biersch Brewery has the best tasting, most well-made beers I have ever come across. Hands down. I have found a lot of enjoyment in exploring craft beers this past year and learning about the different styles; It's difficult to be a master of many types of beer, but Gordon Biersch has done it. It seems the recent trend has been with IPA's, particularly NE style, but Gordon Biersch made sure there was something for EVERYONE on their menu. A hef, porter, blonde, etc. The flavor profiles were unbelievably balanced and smooth, but still popped with brightness and mouthfeel. I had a flight of 6 (? I think) and then the bartender let me try a few additional. Until Gordon Biersch, I have never liked/loved ALL of the beers in my flight- but I did here! Even the beers that I do not typically care for, like stouts and porters, really struck my fancy here. It made me happy (rather than regretful) that I tried a little bit of everything. The atmosphere is more restaurant than brewery-like. I suppose that's something to be expected in a touristy place like Myrtle Beach. Regardless, we sat at the bar in order to chat with the bartender about the beer (and ordered food), and we still got that small brewery feel! We totally forgot about the restaurant behind us and the bartender really made us feel like we were in a little local brewery. Went above and beyond to answer questions, give suggestions, and make sure we were taken care of even with a bar full of other guests. Great experience. Terrible service! From the first point of contact to us trying to sit at the bar and no one coming over to help us I would say that this would be a place that could be so great too. We made it just in time for happy hour on a Sunday evening, so we ended up ordering a lot of food over the course of the evening! GB was a nice place to hang out, eat, and drink without feeling rushed. I had the nola yellowfin tuna small plate before my meal. The tuna was creole-spice encrusted and perfectly seared (rare). I couldn't really taste much creole seasoning, but it was delicious either way. I cleaned my plate! I ordered the spinach, fruit, and nut salad as my entree. The menu described it as something that is right up my alley- spinach, goat cheese, pears, dried cranberries, toasted almonds, and spiced pecans tossed in a lemon vinaigrette. The salad itself was exactly what I was wanting, but the lemon vinaigrette was less so. It did not have the lemony flavor I was looking for and made me feel as if my salad were undressed, which is not really my thing. My husband and I shared the creme brulee for dessert. Place was bustling with people but staff handles it well from all indications. Our party of 3 started with 2 appetizers of pretzel and fondue. Big fresh tasting pretzel with 3 different sauces and some sausage links on skewers and also the fried calamari. Both dishes were delicious we highly recommend. One of the worst upscale experiences I have ever had. My wife and I were on vacation and elected to try this establishment. We like to sit at the bar in most cases and found a couple seats on the outside bar area. We sat for several minutes without being acknowledged and when we were it was a quick menu drop and moved on. The place was not too busy and don't understand in a tourist spot like Myrtle Beach why the bartenders don't offer good service. We experienced the same thing at another location. Okay this is not a bad spot. Parking well a bit of a challenge no valet and all street parking. We arrived about 6:30/7 to watch the NBA playoff. We sat in the bar area and it was about 13 of us. No we did not arrive all at the same time but since several arrived early we were able to get a table that accommodated all of us. The waiter in the bar area was a bit rushed i think he was overworked. But he managed the situation very well and had great suggestions for beer and food. He also did a good job ensuring we all had our food and it was what we ordered. We did not have to ask him to split the check he did the automatically. The food was very good I had stake sandwich and fries which was very good. Overall I recommend and would visit again. Now for eye candy, I did not see much in the bar area and would think that is where it would have been.
