Like everyone else, I was blown away by the space. The decor was topnotch, always something enjoyable to look at or wonder about! It even made me research Grit magazine, because the old pictures were so interesting! We started with appetizers and naturally got the grit flight. I love grits; they are the perfect vehicle to take on a transformation with flavors and Grace and Grit does that. Wreckfish is one of my favorite types of fish here in the south, so I ordered that on the beet hash. The fish was just a minute or two too long in the pan, or under a light, or something, so a bit dry. Other guests at our table luckily did not experience that. But, the beet hash it was on was delicious. My husband ordered the scallops on the beet hash and the scallops were tender and so so good! For dessert my husband had the strawberry cake, which he loved. As I mentioned before, grits are the perfect vehicle to transform as desired and boy did they do that with the coconut grit brule - yum yum - and very rich! Just delicious. We went for Sunday brunch. My girlfriend got the chicken and waffles and I got the chicken biscuit and gravy, and neither of us had a complaint on the taste. We also got the grit flight, but only loved the cheese grits. The portions were gigantic and both of us took home leftovers. Some might have issue with this but we loved having it again later. The only issue we had was service-related. In a weird twist, the service was too efficient. We were there early and there were more employees milling around than diners dining. Our starter, the grit flight, came out just a couple minutes ahead of our meals and by the time we returned to the grits they were cold and congealed and gross. We got interrupted several times by a manager/waiter asking how things were and our water glasses were topped off after every sip. Not the worst problems to have but just a little annoying. Extremely slow. We waited, waiter/waitress was changed and we waited, walked the dog and waited, went to the restroom and waited, finished glass of wine and bourbon flight and we still were waiting. We waited over an hour for dinner entrees after enjoying appetizer grit flight which came quickly. Management and staff did not seem responsive to our concern that we were traveling and had such an excessively long wait. Was hard to enjoy the dinner entrees after waiting this long. Our server Andrew was great & I'm certain none of the following was his fault (unless it was) but the cocktails though delicious were a tad bit delayed and extremely over iced. The scampi we ordered had run out in the kitchen. All plates were cold by the time they were brought out, except for the chicken livers appetizer that came out much later than than our day old & cold tasting food was served. It truly was a terrible first experience for our party of 7 & I don't think anything was memorable enough for us to recommend Grace & Grit to any of our friends who unfortunately asked us how it went. We had to be completely honest. We aren't the type of people to send food back or complain for a discount so when the manager came over to ask us how the food & service was we just had to nod and grin. Delicious food, super nice staff, nice venue! I liked this place a lot. They do happy hour at the bar and patio wed-fri from 4-6pm. We came for happy hour on a Wednesday afternoon and sat on the patio. It wasn't very crowded at all. It's a nice area and there are fans overhead to keep you from getting too hot. It looks like they can accommodate a lot of people both inside and outside. They also have a huge parking lot which makes parking super easy. Our waitress was super nice and attentive. We always had water and she was very cheerful and positive. Our first appetizers came out quickly and then when our grit flight came out, the guy who brought it gave us a rundown on the flavors. The food all tasted fantastic. The Pimientos + Puppies were very fluffy and flavorful hushpuppies that weren't too greasy or oily in a small cast iron of pimento cheese. They were very yummy and the dish comes with 4 for $5 which I think is worth it. The fried pickles were also super tasty without being overly greasy the way fried pickles can be. The ranch is super tasty and great for dipping them. The portion is also huge and well worth $5. The grit flight was full price ($10) because it's not on the happy hour menu but it was still super tasty and definitely a fun experience! The pimento cheese one is classic because it's just classic cheesy grits but the brussel sprouts and pesto one literally tastes like an italian dish smothered in pesto! The peaches n cream one doesn't taste very peachy- more like cream cheese or cheesecake but I really liked it the more I ate it. The blueberry one tastes like a very concentrated blueberry muffin. I'm very into sweets so I loved it but my friend wasn't as big of a fan because she's not a huge sweets person. Overall, really delicious, fun, cool experience here! Definitely recommend coming for happy hour for lots of food at a good price or just coming for the grit flight period. read more

Had plans for shrimp and grits but saw fried okra and clam chowder so went with that and a Caesar and a rum I've never had (1888). I think it's the best clam chowder I've ever had. The okra was whole okra. I'm an Okie so sliced fried is what I'm used to. Wrong. Okra was great. Caesar was just ok. Chopped very fine and no croutons. Tasted great but on the weak side. I'll be back tomorrow or Monday for more chowder. After a long drive in, it was a very nice dining experience. Sat at the bar and everyone was great. If you love grits, this is the place to be. With so many options, it's difficult to determine which to get! Luckily, as I learned on my visit, you can sub out any grit for another flavor if you want a meal but want a different kind of grits. The interior of the restaurant was clean and inviting. The waitstaff all seemed attentive as well, including Nick, our waiter. To eat, we began with the creamed corn hush puppies. These came out super quickly, but it was clear they were already prepared and were a bit soggy. I wouldn't order then again, but that's not a huge deal. We also got the grilled Caesar salad, which also came out quickly but was delicious! For our meals, we got the chef's creations in herb Dijon salmon and pan seared shrimp, and the daily special which was mahi mahi. The salmon was cooked medium, and the waiter told me after it arrived that they do that unless told otherwise. I'm fine with medium salmon but was initially surprised as a lot of places don't serve it that way. I thought the herbs were a bit too overpowering, and the herb Dijon was really packed on the top. I got the brie grits with it though, and they were amazing. The shrimp was good, but the roasted tomato grits were even better. The mahi was delicious. We don't remember the grits it was served with, but they were also good. One of our party enjoyed the peanut butter cheesecake to go as well. read more

This brunch is the best I've had in Charleston so far. I've been meaning to write this forever but I would not be helping the Charleston food scene if I didn't write this. I made reservations ahead for 8 people. From what I can remember we had- Fried chicken livers, grits. Do it! Don't snub it! I'm telling you, it was amazing. I shared this with my foodie partner. You can tell they were clean, crispy. Flight of grits. For goodness sakes, when you have a crowd of 8, try it! It's fun to figure out what you like in order. Smoked bacon- meh Chicken and biscuits- Do it! Amazing job well done. Truffle grits- this is pretty good. I would order it again. Mimosa flight- duh you have to at brunch. Honestly the most unimpressive thing was the smoked bacon- nothing special. I did my homework on the owner, it looks like he was raised in Charleston. Which makes me happy that they know their grits. They have ample parking, and the place is just neat inside...from the decor, fancy doors, lighting, I am impressed. Service was top notch, drinks were refilled and really nothing went wrong. The John's Island Fried Green Tomato Benedict with shrimp, spinach, bacon, and onions, complemented by two perfectly poached eggs and a grit muffin (their mouth-watering nod to the English muffin) featured the best Hollandaise sauce I've had in my weeks of trying eggs Benedict all over the Charleston area. Just the right touch of lemon gives that creamy treat the perfect tartness. Accompanied by peach tea and finished with black coffee so good that it needed no cream or sugar, brunch was satisfying, tasty, and memorable. We have been here a few times now and it never disappoints. On Sunday we try to arrive for brunch as soon as they open because seats fill up quickly. We enjoy sitting at the bar and talking to the staff. Today we heard Frank talk about with another bartender about his next week's featured cocktails. They sounded awesome and we asked if he would make them for us. He was terrific and said yes. One was blond Bloody Mary with a local corn vodka. It was yummy. I had a bacon bourbon Bloody Mary. Stopped here for a quick southern lunch. Really cute building. Sister restaurant next door. The iced tea was really good but make sure you go 1/2 sweet. Really really sweet. The peach tea was very good but very warm. We ordered the she crab soup which was delicious. Perfect texture and salt. We also ordered the ouster po boy. Our last stop before heading out of Charleston was to grab breakfast at Grace & Grit. My daughter fell in love with shrimp and grits this weekend so she wanted to explore a bit more. We were not disappointed, it is a higher end breakfast/brunch place so the bill reflects that but the meal was excellent and the atmosphere was great too. Appies: Started with the she-crab chowder which got a big thumbs up from my son. While my daughter and I shared the flight of grits. I tend to favor the savory grits so the pesto and pimento grits were my two favs, but the blueberry was good too. Not too sweet and didn't taste like fake compote, I'm not a fan of peaches so that one wasn't a favorite. My daughter liked the blueberry and pesto best. Entrée: I had the oyster benedict upon recommendation, and they were not wrong. The oysters were fried perfectly, crunchy coating while soft and tender, mixing with the savory yolk, and tart hollandaise was perfect. Daughter had the biscuit and gravy and was immediately impressed with the large chunks of sausage. Beautiful place, large parking lot, wonderful ambiance even at the Counter next door. I'm not sure if it was because we had a baby or it really was the lack of space available, but we were asked to go next door to the Counter to eat dinner. We were literally the only ones in the restaurant for a good half hour before another party came, and the ambiance was definitely not the same as next door. Nonetheless, our server was very kind and welcoming. He even let us sample the Forbidden grits, a special. I didn't wind up ordering it because it was overly salty, but I'm glad he let us try it before I got stuck with a full portion. The presentation of the food here is fantastic. Our fried yellowtail was beautiful. The fish was standing up, fried and in a curve. Topped with sauce and a side of grits, my husband loved it. I ordered the turbot and thought it was just okay. The flavors were there, but I don't think it was my type of texture as I found it to be very chewy and dry. The fried green tomatoes were much better than the ones I had somewhere else. It was a thin layer of friedness and it came with a delicious sauce to dip. Overall, I liked the place and I think they do a fantastic job of presentation and great service. We visited Grace & Grits on our recent trip to Mt Pleasant. The ambience of this restaurant is modern and pleasant. There is a bar that overlooks the dining room, as well as outdoor seating. Our waiter was very polite and attentive. We enjoyed his service very much. The food was a bit off as it seems the chef is trying new things that still need some refinement. Just a great experience. Our waiter was very nice, knowledgeable and knew how to be there when we needed something, but not pushy. We started with the grit flight, which is just what is sounds like. It was a sample of four different flavors of grits. They were so smooth and creamy and the different flavors were a surprise but delicious. For dinner we had Shrimp and Grits; and the fried chicken. Some of the best shrimp and grits I've ever had. If you are at the beach and have a non-seafood eater with you try the fried chicken. They put as much attention into the fried chicken as they do the seafood. It is a little off the beaten path, but you will have a great experience. They are focused on creating elevated low country fair. But not to the point where you don't recognize what it started as. All the food stayed true to the low country, but was just a better version of some classic flavors. We started out with a round of drinks, I got the blood orange mimosa deff recommend and my boyfriend got a bloody marry which was also delicious. Being a larger group sometime the food can take forever or come out cold. However, not here! Everything came out all at once very quickly and all hot! I got one of the special Benedict's and let me just say I wish they had it on their menu 24/7 it was that good! Also, for 1.5 you can upgrade to one of the fancier grits, so of course I got the pimento cheese and the were soooo good! We also tried the jalepeno cheddar which were also really good! This was our first experience and it was fantastic!! The service is a 10. I have never been seated so quickly and received my drink and appetizer orders so swiftly! They have this place running like a well oiled machine. Everyone was friendly. Their restaurant week special was $40 for three courses. We opted to order from the menu. I started with SheCrab soup, followed by the whitefish dip. They also gave us biscuits with apple butter. The butter was delightful. For entrees, I had the fried chicken and my husband had trio seafood. Everything was delicious. The coleslaw is an acquired taste, but all the food was fresh and well prepared.
