An amazing find. We wandered in at random, hoping for a good cup of coffee and a decent breakfast. They were pretty easily able to exceed those expectations. The place is really quaint, with a clean and fun atmosphere. We ordered the twice baked French toast, and let me tell you, this place is worth a stop for the French toast alone. Best French Toast I've ever had. The coffee was great, the pastries all looked amazing, and the customer service was excellent. They were very sweet the whole time, but there was a mix up which resulted in our food being delayed. We didn't mind at all, but they offered to let me and my date take a free pastry at the end to make up for the wait. All in all, we loved it, and were glad we made the stop. The menu is limited, but more in the vein of "everything you need and nothing you don't" than "there's nothing to eat here!" There's a build your own breakfast sandwich, a few lunch sandwich choices, a soup or two, a salad or two, combinations of all the above, and a small but delectable assortment of fresh baked goods - muffins and cupcakes and cookies, oh my! The coffee selection (brewed coffee, espresso, bagged hit tea and chai varieties,) is good, as long as your favorite doesn't require a dissertation to describe, you should be good. Social climbing coffee snob skinny macchiato with sprinkles addicts give me a rash, anyway. The space is small and minimalist, but not uncomfortable, and it overlooks the St. Charles Avenue neutral ground, steps from a streetcar stop. There's free wifi. So happy that Gracious Bakery is now in The Garden District. Judging from the business this morning, it's going to be a very good fit for the neighborhood. I ordered the Oliver for breakfast, which features softly scrambled eggs on their green onion bread, which is ciabatta~like, topped with melted smoked cheddar, aioli and arugula. This is a delicious sandwich, with the garlic in the aioli being just assertive enough, and with truly buttery textured scrambled eggs. I had a couple of bites of my partner's chocolate croissant, and found that delicious too. I've sampled the absinthe truffles...an unusual flavor combo that's not to be missed. My coffee was tasty but not hot enough, and one of the girls behind the counter was definitely determined to finish texting on her phone before she waited on us. Seriously, if I was still a restaurant manager I think my head would explode. Anyway, overall very good and I'll be back. read more

I'm so happy you opened in my neighborhood. I bought a big box of various pastries today and am in heaven. We had salami and cheese sandwiches on your baguette it was fresh and delicious. I gobbled up a rich tasty croissant stuffed with crawfish and bechamel sauce. I just finished off one of the best cream puffs in my life and almost had an epiphany it was soooo yum. I went with a group of six and everyone loved it! I got the grilled cheese (with pears, cranberries and Muenster). It was delicious. The cold brew is also very good. For a quick brunch or lunch bite this is a no brained stop. The only reason I gave it a 4 is because one in our party ordered the quiche which took about 20 mins or so. As we were waiting for the quiche they told her it takes a little while because it starts off so cold. It would have been better to know upon ordering. By the time it came out we were close to finished with our plates. She said it wasn't even that warm inside. This place provides the baked goods for French truck and French truck provides the coffee (they don't carry the same almond milk). Went here twice while visiting NOLA. I really wish we had a bakery like this at home in Essex! Staff was warm and welcoming, and the cold brew coffee was smooth and heavenly. My yogurt parfait was the perfect balance of creamy, tangy plain yogurt, crunchy granola, delicate honey drizzle... We also loved the strawberry cake and ham and cheese croissant. At first i thought 2 stars was a bit harsh, but yelp's translations of "Meh, Ive had better" is pretty accurate. quick Take: Good spot to grab a pastry on the run, but there are better places to hang out over lunch. I've been here three times, the first just a quick stop for coffee and water while out apartment hunting in the area. Cafe was lively, lots of neighbors and people chatting. coffee was bad but the vibe was congenial and the pastries looked nice, so I was excited for another go. Second time around, stopped in with a friend for a quick lunch. It was mid afternoon and understandably a bit slow, but there is absolutely no ambient noise. No music in the cafe and the staff worked in silence. Friend got a turkey sandwich which he described as "meh" and I had a barley salad which was tasty and nourishing, but the pear chips on it were over done, tasted strongly of burnt sugar. His side salad was quite literally frozen, but my greens were just fine. We shared a croissant that was not exceptional, not flakey and had the cheap butter taste you get from Costco croissants. honestly this could have been a 3 star visit if we didn't feel so awkward, trying to eat our lunch as quietly as we could so as not to disturb the silence. Stopped in again about a week ago for a snack while out with some friends. We shared a few pastries, including a couple chocolate croissants that were leagues better than the one I'd tried before. the kind that shatter crumbs all over you when you bite in, flaky and crispy on the outside, light and buttery inside. Also had a blondie that i believe was made with whole wheat flour. it was less fudgey than i like my blondies, but had good flavor and enough salt so that the whole wheat flour didn't taste like cardboard. Overall, I probably will stop back in for a pastry as there aren't a ton of places in the neighborhood where you can find fresh made baked goods, but I won't have high expectations. I've always loved gracious and firmly believe that they make the best plain croissants in the city -- however, some of their menu items are just not good. I was very disappointed by their everything bagels and mozzarella/prosciutto toast -- way too salty with barely any cream cheese and the toast was way too hard. I will say I haven't tried many of their breakfasts or soup and salad combos, so maybe I'm missing out on meals that they make well. Overall, it's a solid place. read more
