    Chocolate Flan

Finally got to try this staple of an establishment by Danny Meyer. You can expect one hell of a 5 course prix fixe meal that's changes based on the season, which goes for $175 per person. After we checked in with our reservation, we were seated about 5 minutes after. A wine sommelier came over to walk us through their wine selections. This part felt very over the top and unnecessary, but he was super professional about it. I ended up doing two different half glasses to pair with my course, which I did a white wine for the first two courses called Jean Collet & Fils Chablis ($13), and then a much more expensive red wine called Lionnet Terre Brûlée Cornas ($20), which I really enjoyed. For the meal, I started off with the Citrus-Cured Fluke, which was light and refreshing. Next was the Hay Smoked Gnocchi, which I really enjoyed. I didn't really taste the smokiness, although it was supposed to be subtle, but enjoyed the buttery and earthy taste of this dish. Next was the Smoked Trout, which tasted similar to the fluke, but the trout has a richer flavor and more savory. The Hanger Steak was probably my favorite dish. This was prepared medium rare (I don't think you have a choice in how you want your meat cooked). I ended my meal with the Chocolate Flan, which was super rich in chocolate flavor and it did taste like you were consuming one of the most delicious flan ever made. If you mark on your reservation that you're celebrating something, such as a birthday or anniversary, they will bring out a complementary cake with a candle on top. Fair warning, plan to spend an evening for 3 hours. These dishes come out slow and they won't come out with the next course until everybody at the table is done with their prior course.

Ask for the onion foccacia! It was the best part of the meal and not just because it was free. LOL. Fluffy, onion-y, olive oily...only served upon request. We came for lunch and ate like piggies. Our server later commented "you guys did good". Started off strong with the roasted oysters. So smoky and tasty! Delicious! I love they were the little oysters too :). The market salad was a silent winner which had nice surprises with each bite: little crunchies, sugar snap peas, chives, parm and of course, greens. The tavern burger was awesome! Beefy, crispy edges and cooked a perfect medium rare. Everything a good burger should be, and when I looked around almost every table had at least one order. One of the must order items here! The cucumber soup was refreshing and unique. I was going to order it à la carte until I was informed the lunch special was cucumber soup plus a short rib sandwich. Same size soup and just $9 more. I was sold! Unfortunately, I wish I had just saved the $9. The short rib sandwich was almost inedible. We picked out the short rib (4 little chunks per half sandwich) which was smothered with BBQ sauce but dry. The bread was dry and hard. Disappointing, but that was the only bad part of the entire meal. Service was on point and friendly. Yah the two of us tore it up. "We did good"...oink oink.

What can I really say that many famous professional publications and even Michelin themselves haven't already said? Absolutely incredible place and I would borderline move to NYC just to be closer to this place. Our server was absolutely phenomenal. Knowledgeable, personable, kind, amazing. The outdoor seating area was nicely shaded from the hot, early summer sun and felt comfortable with a gentle breeze even when it was scorching out. She recommended my wife a fantastic Portuguese white wine, perfect to beat the heat, and I got the Smoke, which was a smoky whiskey cocktail with candied ginger that had a ton of depth and layers to it. SO good. I'm not even sure why I'm mentioning any food since they rotate their menu seasonally... BUT I will say the chilled pea soup was ethereal (and neither of us much like peas) and the seasonal focaccia I could have eaten a whole loaf of by itself. I believe we got the Market Garden Salad, which was great, and then split the Brick Pressed Chicken, which was just incredible with how tender, juicy, and flavorful it was all in one. For dessert, we got an ice cream dish and then they went above and beyond bringing us out a special hidden menu item for our anniversary, which was delicious, gluten free (for my celiac wife), and absolutely blew our minds. I cannot wait until the next chance I can get to visit. Absolutely amazing experience. Hands down, one of the best meals I've ever eaten.

The dining room is running a $60 prix fixe lunch here seven days a week right now. We started with the free bread service, which was yum: warm potato rolls with cultured butter. For starters we split the beef carpaccio (bright with lemon and horseradish, kentucky-thin slices) and the lumache, which was hands down our favorite dish of the meal. Sungold tomatoes, corn, brown butter, the pasta soaking up all of it. If you go, get the lumache. Mains: the golden tilefish came over a vivid green herb sauce with crispy skin, fennel, and a generous scoop of salmon roe on top. The flavor was of the sauce was definitely stronger than I expected but the fish was well executed. For dessert we got the peach upside-down cake (brown sugar, lime, coconut, a little apricot sorbet on the side) and the ricotta semifreddo with strawberries and a shard of phyllo. Both were good but nothing wow. Service was great.

Visited during restaurant week and had a lovely experience. Out of all the restaurant week options, I really enjoyed the attention and service the team at Gramercy Tavern delivered. I would recommend this place if you're visiting from out of town or if you have a guest visiting.

I went to Gramercy Tavern and enjoyed their tasting menu. There are two sections to the restaurant, with the front having more à la carte options. For the Dining Room, it was warmly lit with white tablecloths. We were celebrating a special occasion and they made sure to wish us. The food was amazing, everything was well done. My favorites were the gnocchi, the lamb, and the chocolate flan. The service was extremely inviting and attentive, they really make you feel welcome and cared for. They gave us complimentary chocolates, cake, and bagged coffee cakes for us to take home - all on the house. Overall, I had such a special time here and would love to go again and try the other dining section

This is a review for the Tavern at Gramercy tavern. It is a more casual à la carte part of the restaurant vs the fine dining/set menu. It is also part of the Chase sapphire reserve dining credit! I booked a reservation a week in advance for two on a Thursday and they only had either 5 PM or 9 PM outside. I ended up choosing 5 PM and I'm so happy I did because the weather was beautiful and it was a perfect day to have some drinks and eat a good meal outside. My boyfriend and I ordered the broccolini salad as an appetizer and each ordered the Tavern burger. For cocktails, I ordered the Queen of Hearts and my bf ordered the NY Manhattan. The broccolini salad was very fresh and I loved all of the ingredients. The salad and queen of hearts cocktail were both small portions. The burger was cooked perfectly and very juicy. The side of chips was nice and didn't make you overly stuffed. The aioli reminded me a little bit of Big Mac sauce. I would likely try the ribs or something else next time but it was a good meal. The service was excellent.

This was a very cozy date night spot. I waited for a reservation inside as the vibe outdoor would have been completely different. The cocktails were amazing - my boyfriend loved the pisco drink (didn't taste like alcohol). We ordered the flatbread appetizer, the burger, pasta with pea shoots, and chocolate cake for dessert. The flatbread was very tasty and I loved how it came out piping hot, but the flavors of the dips were a bit lackluster. The burger was cooked perfectly and was tasty, but we wished it was served with fries over chips. Pasta was fine, but I would order meat or fish here in future. Dessert was epic!

BEST BURGER OF MY LIFE! I dined at the bar while on a solo work trip in the city and had a fabulous dirty martini with the burger (no bacon) and it was unreal. The service was also 10/10! Benny was amazing from start to finish and implemented some amazing "unreasonable hospitality". I highly recommend Gramercy Tavern whether you're dining solo or with a group. The atmosphere is special too with beautiful fresh flowers everywhere.

We finally got a reservation at the famous tavern at Gramercy Tavern. I had heard legends about the burger, and didn't understand why, but now I truly do. There were zero dishes that weren't perfect. The drinks were incredible; that whiskey cocktail I had with the candied ginger was unreal. The chicken liver mousse appetizer was perfect as well, and came with a delicious bread that was insanely good. The mains were, of course, unbelievable. The pasta dish was perfect, simple and delicious. The burger was one of the best, if not the best I've ever had, perfectly cooked, and flavored to perfection. The desserts were amazing as well. The cookie was our favorite, but the mango upside down cake was great as well. I definitely understand the hype, will be back for sure!

I finally made it back to the Gramercy Tavern - it had been over a decade. I'm not sure why I waited so long to revisit. I had no reservation for a Monday lunch, however, there was an available table outside and it was a lovely day. The server highly recommended the Carrot Soup as a starter...it's a chilled soup. I can count the number of times I've had chilled soup on one hand. It's not that that I don't like chilled soup - in fact, the chilled soups I've ordered over the years have been quite good...as was my Carrot Soup! It had fennel - which was an interesting addition - pleasant to chew with the soup. There were also Fava Beans - to be honest, I can't recall ever having Fava Beans - they're like Lima or Butter beans. There was also a crème fraiche on top of the soup. It's hard to describe this great combination of flavors - carrot - coconut milk - fennel - fava bean - but it was very delicious! I saw the menu featured a Beef Meatball with Polenta, Mushrooms and Fontina. I asked my server about this 'meatball'. She said it was really like a meatloaf - 7 1/2 oz of ground meat shaped like a large curved meatball, and sliced in half. She said it was on a bed of polenta with gravy and mushrooms. Images of my Mom's meatloaf flashed in front of me - I ordered it! I also ordered the Bacon Cheddar Biscuits, which would be a great add with the meatloaf! The entree came, and I immediately hesitated as I saw chili flakes sprinkled all over the meatloaf. There was no mention of chili flakes or spice on the menu, nor did the server mention it. If it were mild, I may not have cared - but it wasn't. It was quite spicy. The server came over - I told her I'm not able to eat spicy foods and there was no mention of chili flakes with the meatloaf. She said she could take the plate back and replace it without the chili flakes. I agreed. The new plate came out - and while there was no chili flakes sprinkled on top, there were chili flakes cooked in the meat and the gravy was spicy. While the meatball (meatloaf) tasted very good, I really couldn't enjoy it due to the spice level. It was not my 'Mom's meatloaf' - not even close - why spice it and not disclose? The Bacon Cheddar Biscuits were good - unfortunately I couldn't dip them in the gravy due to the spice. I was hoping to get a classic, old fashioned meatloaf style dish. It was a disappointment after my long hiatus from the Tavern. It may be awhile before I return.

My family came here for restaurant week. This restaurant has been a classic staple for more than 20 years. Food is always served beautifully and tasty. The only thing missing today was the pork cutlet that the meat was as thin as paper and too chewy. The batter was not nicely coated on the pork chop. The service was decent but probably a bit busy during weekends, the waiter forgot to send up coffee the same time as the dessert. Other than these minor problems, every food is impeccable, good vegan choices.

Ask the Community - Gramercy Tavern

What's the dress code for dinner and sitting outside?

We were basically smart casual. I wore pants and a golf shirt. Decent shoes, not tennis. That would be acceptable.

    Is dining room fixed price?

    Yes

What's the dipping sauce for the Bread?

How is the food in the Tavern (not dining room) and do they accept Apple Pay?

Food is consistently amazing. I have never had a bad meal there. They also take every major credit card including Apple Pay

Any need for reservations for the tavern side or is it pretty easy to walk in?

It depends on the time and the day. Early and week days no problem. Late night and weekends NO

What is the corkage policy here?

    $50

Can you order off the a la carte menu at the dining room for dinner still?

No, the dinner menu is a tasting menu

Do you prefer dining room or tavern?

The dining room has much more professional service than the tavern.

Is there a dress code for the tavern room?

There weren't any posted during my brunch visit, but everyone was dressed casually. I would imagine dark jeans and casual shoes are appropriate at night.

Would it be frowned upon to bring a young well behaved toddler?

Does Gramercy Tavern offer a vegetarian tasting menu in its Dining room?

There seems to be only one tasting menu on their website. I would call the restaurant and ask them if they could have a vegetarian tasting menu for you. Restaurants often are willing to accommodate customers.

Do you need reservations for bar seating?

I don't think so but it's best to call the restaurant to be absolutely sure.

I can't seem to find he cost of the dinner tasting menu and if there's a wine option to add.?

$148.00 per person. Wine pairing is $85.00 per person.

Does the Tavern room offer the Tasting menu during Dinner?

    No it does not.

Are dressy jeans okay here or should one wear dress slacks? What do the majority of male patrons wear?

Dark/dressy jeans are totally fine. You will mostly see men in sweaters or a button down with a couple people wearing a sport jacket.

    Is valet offered?

    I don't believe so.

Does the dining room offer an a la carte menu or only the tasting menus during dinner?

    offers both.

Will there be any resturant week menus released?

GT doesn't participate in restaurant week. However, there menu changes all the time. You won't be disappointed!

Would a long, fitted, black dress be too dressy for the dining room?

No I think you would be fine. A little dressier than most people but to me anything goes!

Do they have beer flight on the menu?

    They do not.

Ambiance: This place has a nice ambiance, definitely very "New York" -- dark (you can't see how dirty the floor is) and loud music (maybe too loud). The buttermilk tenders is supposed to come with pickled shallots and marinated green beans. We didn't get the pickled shallots or the marinated green beans, which was a shame. The chicken tenders by themselves didn't have much flavor. It also is unfortunate paying $17 for what was considered a small plate and just getting the chicken tenders. The Asian-sesame wings were okay. Also, didn't have much flavor and weren't that impressive. There was also still hair on some of the pieces of chicken, so the chicken could have been cleaned better. They have fries and hand cut fries. The regular fries were soggy. Should have went with the hand cut fries. The tater tots were okay. I was told that the chicken sandwich was good. The bread was fluffy and not dry, which I had seen previous reviews say before. Paired with the creamy truffle butter, it had a luxurious mouthfeel. My favorite was the pork chop (cognac, sweet prunes, bacon, rosemary) -- the sweet and soft texture of the prune was melted in my mouth like fat, and the pork was tender, with the rosemary also coming through. The vodka rigatoni was a skip, somewhat bland and one-note, we ended up putting some of the truffle butter and garlic aioli from the fries to make it more flavorful. This was especially in contrast with the spicy shrimp pasta which was much tastier. The tartness of the strawberry was great with the fluffy meringue and the sweet ice cream. Service was extremely attentive, and the restaurant is beautifully decorated with moody lighting. Although the space was packed, it didn't feel too loud or crowded. We spent about two hours and didn't feel rushed.

I went on a Thursday night, and the place was absolutely packed. The front feels more like a bar/casual area, while the dining room is tucked toward the back. My reservation was at 10:15 PM, so I actually had a light dinner beforehand and ordered a little lighter than I normally would. I got: - Truffle Monkey Bread ($34.99) - Prime Rib French Dip ($39.99) - Pommes Frites ($13.99) - Banana Split Sundae ($24.99) I thought the prices were definitely on the higher end when I first sat down, but the Truffle Monkey Bread is divine! Honestly, it's probably in my top 3 bread experiences of my life. If you love truffle, butter, cheese, and basically everything good in life, please get this. It comes out slightly warm and is just incredible. I will probably dream about this bread. The French Dip was good, although it was a little too salty for me. If I get the chance to come back, I'd probably try one of their actual steaks instead. The pommes frites were super crispy, basically McDonald's fries but elevated. The Banana Split Sundae was so pretty. I loved how they placed all the little treats around the crevices/imprints of the dish (not sure how else to describe it ). It's huge, though, so definitely don't expect to finish it yourself. I'd recommend sharing it with 3+ people. I was also celebrating an anniversary, and they brought out a strawberry scoop for us. It tasted homemade and really fresh. I could actually see pieces of strawberry in it, which I loved. The restaurant is definitely on the pricier side, and getting a dinner reservation can be a struggle, but I'd absolutely go again if I got the chance. The decor is cozy and upscale, the food was excellent, and the whole place has a really nice atmosphere. My only real complaint was that our waitress kept pushing us to order more, which got a little annoying, especially since we had already ordered quite a bit. Overall: expensive + difficult reservation, but absolutely worth trying. And please get the truffle monkey bread.

They have to let you in. I didn't have a reservation, but was seated immediately. Win! I really should've asked questions instead of going rogue. My intention was to do the lunch prix fixe menu. The menu on the table was a la carte. This did however work out better for me as I had limited time since I was catching a broadway show. Started with the olives then followed with the hot dogs and closed with the gem lettuce. They did come at different times. This gave me the perfect time to nibble slowly. The olives paired perfectly with the salad. The hot dogs were my favorite. The whole meal was perfectly balanced for me. Just have to mention how amazing the service was. No table had anything waiting to be taken away because there was always someone walking around. At one point, one of the guys clocked I had just finished drinking my water and within seconds he was at my table refilling my glass. I mean c'mon. Will took great care of me. He even suggested the dessert I ended up getting which was the peach cruller. I'm gonna try to come back to do the lunch tasting before I go back home to LA.

Bursting with flavor and the potatoes made for a nice variation of textures. Salmon with endive salad was also great. Salmon skin was cooked perfectly. Only thing I wasn't crazy about was the corn gelato. Just didn't taste like much and the peaches I found didn't really play well with the dish for me. Overall though, service was top notch and you can't beat the upscale vibe. Would definitely recommend this for restaurant week experiences if you're looking to get a fine dining taste at a reduced cost. Portions felt reasonable for the quality and left full (far from bursting, but definitely not hungry at all).

The hostess was welcoming, our waitress was friendly and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, and the support staff kept everything running smoothly throughout the evening. We took several of our server's recommendations and were happy with every one. What we ordered: * Butter Service Garni * Dressed Big Rock Oysters * Yellowtail Crudo * Filet Mignon with Pommes Purée * Nutella Opéra Cake Everything was beautifully presented and full of flavor. The filet mignon was cooked perfectly, the pommes purée were rich and incredibly smooth, and the Nutella Opéra Cake was the perfect way to end the meal. The only thing I'd mention is that the restrooms are located down a fairly long flight of stairs. If you're wearing heels, have a stroller, or have mobility limitations, it's something to be aware of. Overall, this was a fantastic experience with excellent food, attentive service, and a beautiful atmosphere. I'd gladly return and would recommend Quality Bistro to anyone looking for an upscale French dining experience.

We started with the kale salad (although it seemed more like spinach than kale), and it was still fresh and delicious. The tomato burrata was outstanding--definitely a must-order! I had the steak frites, which was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. My husband ordered the French onion burger, and after trying a bite, I already know that's what I'll be ordering next time--it was incredible! The cocktails were made perfectly, and to finish, we shared the lemon ice cream cake. It was light, refreshing, and not overly sweet--the perfect ending to a great meal. Everything from the food to the drinks and exceptional service made this a wonderful dining experience. We had such a great time and can't wait to come back. Highly recommend!

Thanks to my fellow Yelpers, I was lead to this great spot for a late dinner and cocktails on a Friday night. The hostess was really friendly and quicky sat us at a two seater near the bar, which we appreciated. The ambiance was light and friendly and they even had a DJ playing all the good jams! I think I danced a bit, (definitely liquid courage). The DJ read the room and created a fun ambiance. The waitress came over a few minutes later and quickly took our drink and meal order. We ordered the Tuna Crispy Rice ( Yum), Guinness Wager Sliders (Nom Nom), Korean Chicken Boas (My Favorite!) and Carnitas Tacos.....I'm embarrassed to admit that we cleaned our plates like a couple of savages. Bartley Dunnes is a great choice to come solo, meet up with friends or come as a group of no more than 4, unless you make a reservation. They have a second floor that I unfortunately didn't get a chance to check out, so I can't write about that. However, I did see people coming and going straight up. I'll be back!

We sat at the bar, which runs about half the length of the space, and there were also plenty of tables throughout. The back section of the bar feels a bit separated from the main entrance area. There are some TVs throughout, and everything inside seemed fairly new and well maintained. It was not very crowded on a Tuesday early evening, so service was quick and the staff was very friendly. We did not order food this time, but everything coming out of the kitchen looked and smelled great. Overall, I would definitely recommend this spot for happy hour drinks in the MoMA/Midtown West area.
