Grana is excellent! It's a small place so it fills up easily. The bolognese was great. Pasta was homemade and there was plenty of sauce. You can tell they use quality ingredients. We tried one of the new chiantis on the menu which was great and priced under $50 for the bottle. We come here frequently and will keep coming back. read more

We live nearby and used to love it here. I have never once in my life taken to a platform to poorly comment or rate any business, regardless of my experience. However, as mentioned in another recent review - there is a serious *cockroach* problem here. We politely excused ourselves from our table when met with multiple crawling up the walls behind where we were seated. We made sure not to disrupt any other patrons and notified staff immediately, and quietly. The hostess was an absolute sweetheart, and the only staff member that showed any concern or care. She was visibly mortified and helped us to the best of her ability. The other- however, informed us that the owner/ management (who were not on site at the time) were already aware of this issue and have failed to make any efforts to correct it. We were flat out told "they don't care, and there's nothing we can do." I was shocked to see them. And even more shocked by this response. If you even look at the building long enough, you see them. Watch. I truly hate to do this. But it is gross, outright irresponsible, and beyond disturbing to continue operations in this manner. Today I discovered there are reviews noting this for MONTHS now. The food was good but we had to sit and wait at least a half an hour waiting for it. Because I am handicapped I asked for a straw for my drink. I was told they don't have straws. The kicker was when we asked for bread and was told there would be a $4 charge! What Italian restaurant doesn't put bread on the table? These dinners were delicious but pricey. I don't understand the harsh reviews, Grana is a welcomed addition to the North Fork. Think about this for a second. Here is a business that stays open on the east end of Long Island 12 months a year. After October, its slim pickin's for steady business out east. I'm hoping that my review is seen by someone that spent the day at Tanger, wants to drink a nice glass of local wine, eat a local organic salad and have a kickin' pizza. Are you with me so far? We walk in on Friday afternoon, its not too busy and are seated quickly. What a beautiful looking space! I see a chalk board with multiple choices of local Long Island Wines. This in itself makes me happy, we live in such a unique area and the wines/vines benefit from the ocean breezes. Buying Long Island wines also supports the people who live here. All this wine talk is great, is the pizza good?? Oh hell yes. We ordered two pizzas, A Margarita and a specialty pizza with pork belly. The wood oven didn't char the pizza too much, gave it a great taste and made me want more. Another item to point out. The ingredients here are local and organic. The flour used to make the pizza is organic, locally sourced from Long Island. Very responsible. The pizza was really good, the prices are the same as NYC for this style pizza and worth every nickel. North Fork has only a few spots where I can consistently take out of town visitors. Grana never fails to disappoint. Other than Farm Country Kitchen, this is my go to spot for lunch/dinner in the Riverhead area. First of all, can we please just establish that this is the best pizza joint in Long Island?! I've had the fig pizza and mushroom with truffle oil pizza and both are to die for. The Margherita is AMAZING, and this is my point of comparison to every other pizza place. Grana is up there with some of the best pizza in Manhattan. The service was fantastic - we were a group of 6 and everyone was so friendly and accommodating. We got there right at noon when they opened up, and in no time the restaurant started filling up very quickly. Please make reservations especially if you have a larger group. I've been here 3 times. Twice on my own and once with a group. That is 3 times too many. The customer service/friendliness is non-existant. Most times, I felt as if I was being waited on by a young version of the soup nazi from Seinfeld. Also, I agree that the food consistency is not there. Sometimes its good, sometimes its beyond bad. The pizza here is pretty good, if you like the thin almost cracker-like pizza you expect to find in Italy. Having said that, I think this place takes the whole 'char' thing a little too far which often results in pizzas having black, burned edges. I lived in Italy for a short time ate a LOT of authentic Italian pizza, almost none of which was burned like Grana's. If you don't like thin/crispy pizza ... Grana is not the place for you. Having said that, I'd rate this as being as authentic an Italian pizza I've had on Long Island anyways. The soft style cheese placed sparingly on the pizza in small slices rather than shredded and sprinkled. In Italy, the dough and the tomato sauce is the star of the pizza ... you will rarely find a pizza covered in cheese. Anyone who understands that will understand why the cheese is used sparingly in this way at Grana. My biggest fault with Grana is the absolute horror show that is customer service here. From the owners right down to the waitresses ... I've never had a warm experience at Grana. Nobody greets you when you walk in. The waitresses are curt and rude and the employees have conversations amongst themselves at the bar as if you feel it is their living room that you walked into and sat down in. The pizza isn't exactly cheap but the ingredients seem fresh, so it is worth the expense. They totally get you with the juices, waters and sodas though. I paid over $6 for a small-ish bottle of San Pelligrino water. At the grocery store, the big bottles are $1.20. To charge $6 for a small bottle of water is amazing. Sodas/juices are not much cheaper. Ask the prices of any extras you might get. When they first opened, care was taken that the pies were done right ... now it seems that parts of the pizza are burned and there are giant air bubbles in other sections. Clearly when the owner is not operating the oven, the quality will not be there. The quality is very inconsistent. Something that you NEVER find in Italy. I really can't give a good review to anyplace with such bad and rude staff. I don't feel welcome or warm here ... which gives me no reason to be a regular customer. The better than average pizza is not worth the hassle. More than once, I've seen a simple request by a customer get met with a sneer or sarcastic comment by a waitress. The last time I was there, the waitress ARGUED with an older group at another table about something very simple to fix. The arguement seemed to be pissing contest of wills ... clearly the customer is never right here. Even if the fix is small. Step up your customer service and I think more people will come. The place used to be crowded all the time ... but ever since the customer service and quality in general has gone downhill or been sporadic at best, it has been empty most times I drive by at lunch. They make decent authentic Napoli style pizza here ... but everything else is way, way off. read more

A friend of mine recommended Grana because she had heard good things and I was not disappointed. It was DELICIOUS. The waitress, Kat/Cat? Picked out a bottle of wine for us based on my very vague "red but not too dry and not too sweet" inquiry. We decided to do a pizza as an appetizer and it was incredible, very authentic. Stopped in at 430 today and tried to get a table but they were "booked". Ordered two pizzas to go. Here are the issues. One we live in Nassau county so we had to eat in our car. Two.. we sat in front of the restaurant and guess what they had open tables the whole time. At any point they could have said hey you know what, we can accommodate the four of you. When I went in to give them my empty pizza box, I said as much. The rude hostess couldn't be bothered. We have eaten at Grana countless times when we go out east but this really turned us off. Now let's talk about the pizza. How is it that pizza that came fresh out of the oven was barely warm? The regular cheese pie was just ok this time and there was a large basil branch that still had the blue rubber band still attached to it. The eggplant pizza was good but not as described by the hostess. She said there was marinara and there wasn't. Just diced tomatoes. That may make me a bad person, but there's never been a complaint after we eat and we're 30 min closer to home. Green, James, it's a port and the food is dope. Speaking of, I've had many-a-items here, but the best, for me, is the pasta section of the menu. Sure, pizza is fun, so grab a marg pie and move on to the star of the show, the homemade pastas. Last time in we grabbed the Casoncelli alla Bergamo (ravioli of roasted meats blended with herbs spices, pear, raisin, amoretti, sauced with pancetta, rosemary, roasted pear, butter white wine), which was super heavy due to the pancetta, but was well worth it. The ravioli filling was so soft and light and paired with the pears and 'cetta... close your eyes every bite good. Bolognase was also solid, with long strips of fettuccini and a meat sauce that could be called 'light' (for a meat sauce). Don't skip the classic caesar to start things off as the (again, homemade) dressing is fantastic. Overall another lovely meal, only made better by the friendly staff and local patrons. A surprise find on my phone today as I sat with my sister during her chemo treatment. We were tired, stiff and cranky ( her with more reason to be than me) . I read in the review, that it was only 11 miles from our location- so off we went after her treatment. Wow! So happy we did. For a Wednesday in September, it was busy. Although we didn't have a reservation, we were seated immediately by one of the efficient and friendly staff. Water and olive oil already on the table were soon joined by some wonderful, rustic ciabatta bread. We chose a Long Island chardonnay from Macari Vineyards since I am visiting from upstate NY Finger Lakes . Corn chowder was on the board as a special. A meal in itself. Chock full of fresh corn, potatoes and a flavorful broth!!! My sister ordered Baked Clams and they were light and flavorful, - not filler. Recommend both . Entrees of Neapolitan Expression for me and Lobster Pasta Fettuccine were perfect presentation and taste ! We would order again and are looking forward to our leftovers tomorrow. Can't go wrong in ordering either. We are planning on another visit soon so we can sit outside and enjoy one of those pizzas I saw coming out! Holy delicious pizza. Ohh emm gee. So I love coming to the North Fork and visiting my Aunt and Uncle who live here. I have been doing this for years and years and now that I have a 2.5 year old, it's even more fun showing him all the cool stuff the NF has to offer. Pizza is always a hit with the kid (and mama!) so we went to Grana last night. My aunt told me it was "the best pizza" and wow - she was RIGHT. I had the "NOFO" with sausage and onions and she had a margarita with artichoke - both were insanely delicious. The Chianti was so tasty and went down wayyyy too easily! I could have had two bottles! The restaurant is small and loud. The service was attentive and helpful. The menu offers a large selection of pizzas and pasta dishes, primarily an assortment of raviolis. The four of us shared an arugula pizza as an apetizer. It was piled high with arugula, the crust was crisp and the cheese was excellent. The spaghetti with anchovies was a little salty but the noodles were perfectly al dente and the overall effect was good. The ravioli with beef filling was OK. The pasta ravioli shells were not the usual square shape - they were elongated and looked more like Chinese dumplings. The filing was tasty and the texture was excellent. The small wine list features medium quality Italian wines, and the prices are reasonable. This place is well worth a visit for an informal meal. read more

We were a group of six people this past Saturday, stopping by mid afternoon for lunch after visiting one of the local wineries. They do not accept reservations for lunch so we decided to try our luck and stop in anyway. We were greeted by a bus boy/server who initially said they didn't have any tables but would try and help. He consulted with a more senior waiter who told us there was nothing and we were out of luck ( didn't even ask us to wait around for something to open up or stand at the bar and have a drink while waiting). I commend the young waiter for being more than accommodating and ask another couple to move to another table so that he can accommodate our larger party in that corner of the place. The proprietor should take notice that a senior staff member was willing to lose a large sale for the restaurant while the inexperienced waiter convinced us to stay. The specials on the menu all seemed like great options and were definitely unique and different rather than the same run of the mill Italian food you would see at any restaurant. We started with a pie of pizza for the table as an appetizer along with a portion of meatballs to try. The pizza sauce along with that of the meatballs was obviously filled with sugar as it was overly sweet but the taste of the meatballs and pizza though respectively saved the dishes. For the entrées, there was a wide variety of selections from the group ranging from pasta with zucchini as seen on Stanley Tucci's show two grilled octopus and a grilled chicken salad. All were quite good and the portions were a nice size. Overall the restaurant ambience was eclectic and colorful and we very much appreciated the small feel of the place. Some of the prices of the items were quite high (30.00 for breaded chicken cutlet and salad) but it was a good experience for the occasion. Moving ahead I think the restaurant should have a quick word with their staff to never turn away customers especially of a larger party without trying to find a solution first. read more
