This place was pretty good , our usual place was closed Monday so we tried to find a replacement and they had all pretty much all the things we were craving , some of the stuff was kinda dry bc I think it was from older batches but when I went to get seconds they had replaced it and it was better , the service was good the staff was very friendly . And it seemed that they had a lot of regulars coming it so that's a good sign . So this is my last visit to this place ever. we would go here twice a month well my last 2 trips were very unsatisfying. This one more than ever We get there and as usual the manager lets me pick my spot we sit get our drink orders taken and start our meal well the waitress gave us each 2 refills then we had to start asking and even then wouldnt get a refill she would get the plates look at our drinks and keep moving towards the end she avoided our tabe at all cost and would serve people around us well we get uo to go to the cashier to pay and she runs at us here is your check thats the first word she said to us throughout the whole meal told the manager and he just gave me my receipt and kept us moving. A group of us at work decided to go out to eat, about a week ago. They chose Grand Buffet, because apparently "it's good!" These are all native New Orleanians, so I understand. There really isn't a lot of good, authentic Chinese food to choose from in the area. Here is my opinion, though - Grand Buffet is another cookie-cutter Americanized Chinese buffet. You get the staples, like fried rice, lo mein, general tso's chicken, soup, a salad bar, pizza (because this is necessary in Chinese cuisine), etc. They have some sushi at the back, and some sort of cross between Mongolian BBQ and Hibachi - pick your meats/veg and get them to cook it for you. Be sure to tip for this. It's buffet food, so in my mind, I really can't give it more than 3 stars anyway. You get to choose from mass-produced sugary, salty, fatty items... some of which have been sitting around longer than others. It gets 2 stars because everyone in my party had to wait a very, very long time for drink refills and for our plates to be cleared. Never had an issue with the food. We've been customers for years. That ended today. We drove from Raceland to Houma to enjoy a late lunch with the kids. So we say the amount of people (6) . Was asked their ages and three people hadn't arrived yet. once they get there we can see the waitress talking to another staring at us talking. I instantly knew it was due to their size that something would be said. They are tall girls. so I go to the front desk and say I'll pay for adults for them if it's an issue I'd rather them not feel embarrassed by staring and being talked about. The lady tells me it's fine not to worry. I get back to the table and find out that they came to our table and questioned the kids about their birthday and proceeded to say she doesn't believe them!! They should have never overstepped and talk to our kids instead you'd think they'd have enough sense to talk to their parents. I absolutely LOVE this place. The quality of the food is more than satisfactory and the wait staff are super friendly. I am also a big fan of how decent the price are. The selection is good but just not as good in choices as it once was. Rice has never been a strong point here. Soups are OK but nothing great. The sushi isn't flavorful at all.. They all taste the same.. You taste the rice and nothing else.. Chicken dishes are usually good (but the breaded items have become MOSTLY BREAD with very little chicken in the middle) and I can say that the salad bar has a good selection of items including tuna salad, seafood salad and boiled eggs, along with the typical stuff. The Peanut butter chicken used to be REALLY GOOD, but now it's just an oily mess (BRING back the previous recipe version!!). I will add that Management DOES takes pride in cleanliness and such. Their sushi chef is very talented in creating many cute yet tasty rolls. The hibachi bar gives me a lot of options to choose from. After my meal, I throughly enjoyed the wide selection of fruits and dessert. The watermelons were so fresh and juicy. Not only was the food good, the service was AMAZING! The waitresses were very attentive and nice. They refilled my drink when it was half full. They always say please and serve with a smile. The man that makes the hibachi is a very good looking man that serves with a smile. He talks with a wonderful friendly and kind tone. My family and I feel very welcomed to this wonderful family buffet. This will be my standard place to eat with my family. We highly suggest people to try this place.
