This place is an absolute hidden gem in West Sacramento. It's a cool, divey spot in a pretty terrible location, but like a good cannoli... it's what's inside that counts. And trust me, it's epic. The pasta is handmade, the waitresses are delightfully bossy, the cocktails are spot on, and somehow even the Diet Coke just hits different. We ordered the giant appetizer assortment without really knowing what we were getting, and it ended up being one of the best decisions of the night. Bonus points for serving spumoni ice cream. Nothing much to see here folks! We were in town for a competition and some friends invited us out to eat, praising the place. It took me one U-turn to find it, and it blended in with the surrounding motels. Parking was a pain because the lot was filled with hotel guests. Walking in, we stuck out a bit and the place felt cramped, busy, and steamy. Despite the hectic atmosphere, the standout positive was the staff and, especially, the owners, who were genuinely delightful and exceptionally sweet. Their warmth made the experience feel welcoming in a way the rest of the visit didn't--like a homey, friendly stop in an unfamiliar town. Food, unfortunately, didn't live up to the same standard. My first thought was pizza, but to our surprise they didn't make pizza. The kids' chicken tenders arrived like bricks--rock solid enough that my son used one as a drumstick for a moment. The mac and cheese was a runny attempt, though my daughter's cheeseburger was enjoyed. If you're hoping for standout hospitality, the owners' kindness is the real draw here. First time dining at Vince's Ristorante. They have a little patio area if you prefer to eat outdoors. We were greeted immediately upon entering, which felt welcoming. The Meatloaf (Wed Special) looked good, my friend inhaled it so fast I wasn't able to grab a bite to try. She absolutely loved it. The Shrimp Louis also looked good, it was devoured as well. Again, no sample to review. The Chicken Salad looked okay, decent sized porrtion for a small. I ordered the Steak Sandwich, i was hoping for something in between a Pheasant Club Steak Sandwich or a Distillery Steak Sandwich. What I got was a thick piece of overcooked steak and 2 pieces of dry bread. Darn. If I return, I would try a pasta dish or the perhaps the Meatloaf. We have been coming here off and on since the 1970's. It's not a fancy place, but the food has always been good when we have eaten here. Someone else mentioned the dive like atmosphere. I kind of like it. It reminds me of old school Italian restaurants. The hostesses and wait staff have always been nice. My husband and I usually order the steak dinner for two. We each received a steak, baked potato, onion ring and our choice of soup or salad. It also came with our choice of pasta and fresh bread with lots of butter PLUS our choice of wine or a soft drink. We ended up taking half of it home for another meal. Our waitress was very professional and polite. The night we were there she unfortunately had to deal with the man at the next table. He asked about the steak sandwiches and asked her which would be more to his liking after detailing what seemed to be his entire dietary history. He ignored her suggestion and ordered something else. We had no complaints about our food, it was cooked perfectly. The other "gentleman" was loudly complaining about his steak when she asked how everything was. She offered to have another one cooked, but he was not interested. Even after she asked the manager to comp his meal he complained! I don't think I could keep my cool like she did. I'm not new here but tried a new appetizer (mushrooms) & an old one worth reviewing. 5/5 garlic cheese loaf. GET IT! But be prepared not to breathe around anyone the rest of the day, lol. Garlic was heavy but that's how I like it! The appetizer arrived at the same time my main meal did so that wasn't ideal. Side of ranch was incredibly tasty. Def my fave thing on the menu! 4.5/5 Garlic steak bites - really tasty and very garlicky. A good way to get a steak. Seasoning was very full. 4/5 sautéed mushrooms appetizer. I ordered this to go along with my steak which was delicious but they almost cost as much as the steak. I probably wouldn't get it again for that reason. Ambience - 2/5 Personally not a fan of the dimly lit darkness but I know it's an old building so it's part of the vibe. Service - 1/5 - we went at lunch on a Thursday with a large group that we pre-arranged reservations for. Took 20 minutes to get water and start a drink order and 30 minutes to even place our food order. We only had water as we waited. Sat in the back and think we were forgotten. Unfortunately it was freezing as the heat wasn't on back there and has to be turned on manually. They did turn on after we asked so it was comfortable. I won't knock the score for the service but it was a bit frustrating as we were hungry. I'd recommend only going here in small groups. Both times we went for a dept lunch took 1.5 hours so I likely wouldn't try a large group lunch again. The last two times we frequented here was to get 2 pizzas to go. They don't open till 5pm, but you can order your pizzas at 4:30pm and get them sooner then if you called at 5pm. We get the cheese pizza and the veggie pizza. The first time we took them to go they placed them in a plastic bag which kept them warm but kind of soggy crust. The 2nd time we got them to go they just taped the boxes shut. The arrived to our destination with firm crusts, but kind of cold. It's a trade off. Both ways the pizzas are good and we'd order it again. They have there own private lot, but it can be difficult to get out of the lot to get on the freeway if you are going towards downtown. You have to cross over lots of traffic to go downtown. Pick up of the pizzas were easy. All you do is come in the front door and the greeter will grab them for you and take your credit card. 2 stars and that's only because the fried ravioli was decent and our waiter was really nice. Unfortunately the rest of the experience was pretty disappointing. The restaurant had a strange smell when we walked in, which already made the experience feel off. I ordered the 1/2 steak sandwich with fries and asked for it medium rare. What came out was basically two THICK steak "patties" slapped onto a garlic roll. The roll didn't taste like garlic at all, and the steak itself had zero seasoning. It was extremely rough and tough -- very hard to chew and eat. After trying one bite, I had to remove one of the steak pieces because it was way too thick and difficult to eat but even after doing that, it was still too thick. I only had like 4 bites until I gave up on the sandwich. I was really hungry, so I ended up mostly eating the fries instead. Overall, very underwhelming and not something I'd order again. They were having a DoorDash special with 20% off certain items - all of the ones below were on the special: Chicken Alfredo ($17 normally) was delicious. A surprisingly large amount of chicken, which was charred nicely for a kind of off-the-bbq flavor. Not sure if they flame grill it. Sauce was creamy and smooth. Lasagna ($16 normally) First off, this can NOT be meant for a single person to safely consume in a single sitting. Im surprised the bag the dasher delivered it in made the whole way. It does not come with garlic bread but I think they sell a whole loaf for like $7. Steak sandwich ($16 normally) you get 2 steaks and 1 roll which is meant to be eaten open faced (I wouldn't try to stack 2 steaks on top of each other like a normal sandwich, ha). Steak was cooked medium, which was impressive giving the thin nature of the steak. I did not get an option of steak temperature so i am not sure if you can specify in person (i ordered online). The bread was very garlicky and so moist with butter. The bread is also grilled giving it that nice charred flavor. No sauces, just delicious steak and garlic toast. Soup was so warm, hearty, and flavorful. Some of the ingredients are tomatoes, sausage(?), zucchini, elbow noodles, carrots, and celery. Broth is delicious all on its own. I used half of my bread from the steak sandwich to dip in the soup and then just saved the 2nd steak for later. Side salad is really good for a side. Comes with chickpeas, kidney beans, carrots, and a lovely slightly sweet vinaigrette. Total bill for 3 entrees after discount was $45 before tip. read more

Met a friend here for lunch the other day. Was looking to have Italian food but when I saw the steak sandwich on the lunch menu, opted for that. I liked the dark, old school ambiance and the server was super nice and efficient. My medium steak came on a toasted roll and even though it was only 1/2 it was plenty of food. There are many reasons we keep coming back to Vince's after nearly a decade. On rare occasions we have eaten in the main restaurant , but our first choice is always the bar area. As much as I love food, I love environment. Vince's bar feels like a Quentin Tarantino version of Cheers - with the added bonus of serving up the kind of Italian my Nonnna made. This place is gritty, darkly lit and happy. Lots of regulars and people that know each other. It's noisy with the flow of conversation. Where strangers engage with regulars. The food has never disappointed. My favorite is the baked meatball sandwich but when I switch things up I go for the tasty lasagna. Bread is served and if you want more, just ask. There's an option for pizza but you won't find it on the menu. Vince's can get very busy but the service remains great no matter what. If you're lucky, Kloe will be your server. Packed house? You won't know it because she gets things done like it's a slow night and you're her only table. Come for the food. Stay for the old school vibe. This is your neighborhood Italian place. I've been coming to Vince's for about 50 years. It was a family favorite place. The food was good and the service was good. We came recently for dinner and ordered baked ravioli and pasta with prawns. My son ordered pasta Alfredo and he said it wasn't good it was very bland. My daughter ordered the chicken cacciatore and she said it was good. I think it's a place where regulars go. The food was bland and seemed like it wasn't fresh or prepared with much care. Our waitress was a little stand off-ish at first. She was busy and we weren't in very much of a hurry so we didn't mind. She warmed up by the end of dinner. We won't be going back. There's too many restaurants that have good fresh food and I'd rather spend my money on something good with great taste and quality. Sorry Vince's!!! High rating for the vibe and food which was quite good. Finding the place was a bit challenging on this, my first time visit. Thank goodness for GPS apps for directions. My son-in-law recommended for the food so my daughter, his wife, and I went for our first time. So glad we did as it was very good food. The restaurant is located in West Sacramento on a very busy major street. The signage is difficult to identify one is in the right spot as the street sign just says Italian. The name Vince's is only really visible once you are in the parking lot. The restaurant is situated next to a motel. The parking lot is limited in size for the number of cars needed for the motel and a restaurant but there were a few spots open, so no problem this time, a Friday night. This interior hasn't been updated in so long it is cozy and "retro" cool, really. That said, it is really time for updated lighting, paint, and some areas that need to feel a little new. It can be done to feel fresh but keep the original vibe. There is a small bar area in the front and several separate areas for the inside seating. The food was very good. My chicken in the Marsala plate was juicy and plentiful. Took half of it home as I was so full from trying some appetizers and had a side salad as well as a little bread. Usually there is pasta on the same plate but it was server separately in a little bowl which made it seem small instead an of accent side for the main dish. Wished I had been asked for which potato, I would have preferred a baked one instead of the fries I got, which seems off as a default for an Italian dinner. When in the area again, I will be open to returning here. read more

My two only issues and why I just can't give 5 stars is the host is so unfriendly and sometimes even rude. Every single visit.. Went with another couple for casual dinner on Friday. We had two rib eye steak sandwiches and two chicken Marsala. The steak was under seasoned but large enough to make another sandwich. We ordered two additional garlic rolls to make extra sandwiches to go. The chicken Marsala was moist and tasty. The spaghetti side was also very tasty. Our waitress was very attentive and helpful. The amount of attention was perfect and not intrusive. There was a pianist singer who was very friendly but a little loud for us. I did tip him as we were leaving and he thanked me. I am from Elk Grove and probably make the extra drive just to eat here. If I was in the area, yes I would consider stopping by to support local businesses! read more
