We decided to dine, so we placed ourselves on their waitlist. They have a store and garden you can walk around while waiting, but they were closed when we went. So we just ordered some drinks and enjoyed the environment while chatting with each other. We didn't wait too long and got seated quicker than we thought. After sitting, you line up to order at another part of the restaurant. They have a selection of the types of protein they have available so you can order it in your tacos, burritos, etc. Our orders came out in a couple of minutes. I split a Cod Burrito with my boyfriend, and it tastes great with their Habanero Carrot sauce. But be careful, it can get quite spicy. We also ordered their Ceviche as an appetizer, and it's a great portion to share between 2 people before eating the main dish. I always enjoy the food I order from Hook Fish!

So many of the specials including the whole fish, which we went back for, got taken off of the list while we were waiting...tragic. If you're going on the weekend beware!! We ate in at the restaurant this time as we didn't have a reservation to get to. The outside was pretty hot and there's some seating inside and also in an adjacent room that nobody seemed to notice. We were still able to get 2 specials: rockfish ceviche and dumplings. The dumplings were so good - their homemade chili sauce is sweet and a mild spicy that builds. Rockfish was a bit lime-y, but a delicacy nonetheless. I would definitely come back on a weekday to enjoy the specials again!

I'm not a huge dessert fan, but when I tried the chocolate chip bread pudding with caramel and whipped cream, I couldn't stop eating it. Overall, I thought Hog Island was good!

Chicken was marinated very nicely and wasn't too dry. - Bistec encebollado: ordered the Large plate also which came with the same as above. Steak was cooked well and surprisingly tender enough to cut easily. Both plantains were good but I really liked the garlic one because it was different than the sweet plantains I'm used to. On a clear day you get amazing views of Angel Island and SF, hard to beat while having lunch or a drink. Food was solid. Kitchen does a decent job, although they seem to miss order details every now and then. I ordered a medium rare burger and it came out well done. Before I even had a chance to make a big deal about it, our server noticed and brought a replacement burger out pretty quick. That was super thoughtful and showed they actually care about the customer experiance. Not perfect, but good food, great views, and staff that are willing to make things right. I'd definitly come back.
