Referred by primary care physician for nerve damage after anesthesia (a block), Dr. Kleckbusch at Great Basic Orthopaedics declined to see me because, without knowing anything about me, my problem, why I was seeking treatment, the circumstances surrounding my issue, or even why I was seeking a new orthopedist, a very disagreeable Doctor's assistant made up his mind in advance that they decline to take me as a patient and instead, they declared that I need to follow up with the practice I wanted to leave. This posture makes absolutely no sense given I was never even given the opportunity to speak with anyone about why I was seeking treatment. They knew nothing of my circumstances. It was a disgusting chain of events. I suppose the reality is that I don't want to be treated by a medical practice that takes such an unreasonable stance anyway. Still, I am inclined to give a definite lowest-end-of-the-totem pole review after my interactions with this practice. Nasty, nasty uncaring people in my opinion. Dr. Dolan is an absolute all-star. He treated our son for a fracture and his staff was just as awesome as he is. I will be come my back I'm sure as I have two sons who think they are invincible. The decor of the office is modern and clean along with the iPad to do you paperwork which takes much less time than the old paper drill. If you need an orthopedic then Dr. Dolan is your guy. I was recommended to Great Basin Ortho from a friend who had hand surgery and was really happy. I didn't get a chance to meet Dr. Dooley I couldn't get past the front office staff!! They are rude and incompetent. I ended up canceling my appointment after another annoying and rude phone call. it doesn't matter if you think my questions are stupid just answer politely and we can move on there is nothing about surgery that is not uncomfortable. Is it possible to give negative stars? I wish I could. To say had a horrific experience with Dr. Fyda would be an undercurrent understatement. The staff there is amazing, and I will admit my problems started while he stil haf hie kwn practice. I started seeing Dr. Fyda when I was 14 for recurrent knee dislocations. Dr. Fyda told me repeatedly that "there was no way that could be" and that I was "clearly over dramatizing" becsuse there was "no way that was really happening" because I had taught myself to relocate it. After 2 years of ongoing arguments he finally did surgery. When I asked him why it was happening he said "it just happens sometimes". It wasnt unti I was 21 that a friend whose an NP diagnosed me with a mobility disorder. I'm now 25 and have NO feeling in my ENTIRE leg, because he blew me off so long that in order to get out the scar tissue he had to sever SEVERAL nerves in my leg. read more

Dr. Dickens and his staff act like you don't matter. I sat in the waiting room for 45 mins additional to the hour they make you wait when you finally get called. I understand if something is wrong, but full disclosure from the get go is always best. Something like "sorry X are X-ray machine is down it may be an additional hour wait would you like to reschedule or wait the hour?" Dr.Dickens is a nice guy, but i told him about an ache in my arm additional to my broken arm on my first visit. Nothing was done so I thought oh it will heal. Now 3 months down the line "I'm healed" and still have the exact same pain in my arm. read more

I was injured 03/20/19 on a plane when an intoxicated woman lost her balance and fell on me while getting her bag out of the overhead compartment after we landed in Reno. Renown referred me to Great Basin Orthopaedics where I met Dr. Fyda and his team. Dr. Fyda was kind, caring and professional as he explained my X-Ray and later, MRI results, confirming I need total ACL reconstruction. He went over the options, risks versus benefits at length and we agreed to use my own tendons rather than cadaver tissue. I like that he included me in the decision process, and didn't rush me into having surgery immediately. I work in a very busy medical clinic where I wear many hats so we weighed the pros and cons and decided total reconstruction and intense physical therapy are the way to go if I want to get back to not only walking but kickboxing, biking, hiking. I'm only 53, I want to stay active. My surgery is June 24th. I trust Dr. Fyda completely. His staff is awesome. His nurse Sandy is amazing and so is the rest of the office staff. Working in medicine, I know you get good and bad experiences. I've had nothing but positive experiences at Great Basin. Saw Dr Mullins for a knee injury, and was very pleasd with the service. The staff was very help full and friendly at all times.

I saw Dr. Fyda. Although he was professional, he didn't communicate well. I left with basically the same informatiion that I went in with. When I went to my first physical therapy appointment, I was advised the doctor was a "man of few words." I did take the time to address that issue on their in house survey. No one contacted me to ask any questions regarding that survey. I called their office this week wanting to make an appointment with another doctor for a different issue. I was told that I needed Dr. Fyda to approve that patient transfer and the other doctor to approve me. I was called this morning and advised the "other doctor" didn't want to see me, and would I like to make another appointment with Dr Fyda. I declined. The office staff, radiology were all wonderful. No I am not a person who has nothing better to do than complain. I was looking for information which I didn't receive. Yes, I did have a companion with me on that visit and he also felt there was a lot lacking in commnunication. I have found another physician. It is so disappointing to be treated with indifference. To be ignored. I assume that because I didn't post positive feed back on their in house survey the new doctor wouldn't have wanted to take a change with a "complainer". I began seeing Dr. Fyda at this office in March. I absolutely love the efficiency that this office has. Being able to get an x-ray done the same day of your first visit, is almost unheard of anymore. Dr. FYda gave me a quick diagnosis, and we put a treatment plan to action fairly quickly. Dr. Fyda and his assistant, Stacey, are the two nicest and professional medical personnel I have seen in a long time. My shoulder has osteoarthritis, I had a torn rotator cuff, bicep tendon tear and a cyst on my clavicle. Dr. Fyda was my surgeon, and after two months my shoulder feels 200% better. My recovery time was amazing, and partly due to his skill and my tenacity. Unfortunately my clavicle still has pain, but it is above the surgical site we did and that will be addressed in the future. I would have to note that your first visit you may be met with a somewhat unfriendly welcome by the front office, but once you are in the back and you see the receptionist who schedules your follow ups you will feel more at ease. That would be my only complaint, that there greeting process at the front needs work. read more

My husband was referred to Great Basin Ortho by Workers Comp. They were prompt about getting him in for surgery, however the after care has been deplorable. My husband developed a hard lump and the incision roughly 2 weeks after surgery. He reached out to the Doctor to find out what was happening, the office told him the Doctor would be in touch with him. After 2 weeks numerous phone calls and photos texted still no return call from the Doctor. The office responded each time with the same answer "The doctor will get back to you". He went to the office in person to finally be told the doctor was out "sick". No other Doctor would look at the lump to see what it was, my husband was told to call back after the weekend when the doctor is on the office on Monday. Dr. Timothy Dooley has yet to contact my husband regarding either the lump or about physical therapy. I have never seen such incompetence with a doctor and an office. If it hadn't been for workers comp my husband would have never gone to Great Basin. read more

If I could give no stars to Dr. Kieckbusch, I would. Horrific shin pain (I literally limped) and he hid behind finding mild, early arthritis as a diagnosis (for what purpose? Saving time? No surgery to benefit from financially? Boring?). When I asked how the pain correlated to the finding, the response was "it's all connected". Little did he know I had three years of experience as medical support for knee OA. So after my primary care diagnosed tendonitis, confirmed by three orthopedic specialists I knew from my old job, I was in PT (and she confirmed the diagnosis didn't match what he said) for 5 weeks and healed to completely normal. What a terrible experience. I would highly suggest you find someone who is recommended by others. And I wouldn't recommend this. read more

Dr. Fyda is an excellent physician and surgeon. He is nice, kind and very thorough. I shredded the meniscus in my right knee by overdoing on vacation. He correctly diagnosed the torn meniscus and the extensive osteoarthritis in that knee. He did a SUPERB job on my knee and I am pain free and back to normal activities. FYI - I am overweight and former smoker and the knee healed beautifully, thanks to him. I have now screwed up my left knee because I danced all night during the holidays for about 7 hours. I guess I think I'm still about 30 years old. I see my primary care tomorrow and will ask for a referral specifically for Dr Fyda. Five stars for you, Dr. Fyda. I'll be seeing you soon. Had my first visit last week for a knee issue. The office staff was very helpful and friendly. Check in was on a IPad which made it very easy and quick. The X-ray staff were very friendly. I saw Dr. Dolan. He took the time to answered all of my questions. He showed me the x-rays and described what was going on with my knee. He suggested a treatment plan to address the immediate issue. If I have any further issues with my knee I will not hesitate to go back to him for care. read more

Dr. Dooley is very professional while being extremely approachable. My treatment is expected to take up to 3 months to correct my mobility/use of my thumb/hand. I have already begun to have not only great pain relief but the beginning of the return of unhindered use/mobility of my thumb/hand. Dr. Lilyquist is the only orthopedic surgeon that I trust with my patients. I practice in Reno, and occasionally my patients will require evaluation for upper extremity problems that need a specialist. I have been disappointed with other doctors in town, but Dr. Lilyquist has always been the best and I have dozens of thrilled patients who have been well cared for in his office. If it is difficult to get in to see him, be patient. He is worth the wait. read more

Wow, I am absolutely mortified at the negligence and lack of care that Dr. Hayes provided at this place. First, he came into the room, and without introducing himself tells me that he has not reviewed my x-rays, but he thought it was unlikely that I was diagnosed with the injury I said I was. *I should have walked out* Prior to leaving the room, I gave him my back story...diagnosed fractured, but not treated as such. Not healing after 6 months of care, 12 weeks in a BOOT and 5 weeks COMPLETELY NON WEIGHT BEARING. He proceeded to tell me that whether it was fractured or inflamed, he would treat it the same, and if I wasn't better in 4 or 5 MORE MONTHS, he would do a surgery that would literally not address the two fractured bones that aren't healing in my foot. (I should say, I'm an very healthy and active 32yr old female. I am an athlete and a hairdresser, I am VERY in tune with my body. Having two fractured bones in my foot go undiagnosed by these narcissistic "doctors" very negatively impacts my day to day life.) Dr. Hayes then told me to get some stiff soled shoes and "start walking again." "I physically cannot put pressure on my foot," I say, he says "this is just my opinion." I asked if there could be a vascular issue causing my lack of healing, to which he responded "a vascular specialist wouldn't know what to do with this, some people heal fast and some heal slow." I have since seen a vascular doctor, had a full vascular ultrasound and have found very weak blood flow to my whole left foot, especially my big toe and the injuries underlying. Needless to say I got the transcript of my appointment with Dr. Hayes in the mail, and it OF COURSE confirmed that he was willing to reset my WHOLE RECOVERY time after months of being jerked around, on his misunderstanding of how long I had been treating this injury, and how. How this person has a medical license is beyond me. Maybe some people appreciate being told by a big headed doctor how to feel, but I know damn well how I feel, and since this injury occurred I ALONE, have been right about every single diagnosis, and 4 doctors have missed it. Shame on the Reno medical community. Please take time to research your injuries and stand up for how you know you feel. read more

I had an appointment at GBO. At the appointed time, I was taken into the exam room, met with an assistant who took background information, taken for x-rays and met with the doctor within a half hour. The efficiency and friendliness of the staff was such a welcome change from other doctor's offices. I was out the door with a diagnosis in 30 minutes. This was my first experience with Great Basin and I was very impressed with their customer service. I was able to reach scheduling right away, which was a relief after spending 3 days trying to reach someone at another well known orthopedic in town. When I arrived I was asked to fill out new patient information and by the time I had finished I was being called back to my room. Soon after, someone came in to check my vitals and get basic information, then I was taken for xrays, and a few minutes later Dr. Hayes arrived. I did not wait at any step in the process more than a few minutes. Dr Hayes diagnosed my injury, prescribed PT and explained to me what had caused my injury and a few things I could do in the meantime to help. He was knowledgeable, professional, and friendly. He asked if I had any questions but did not spend time with small talk or hand holding. I could see some patients disliking this, but I thought it was perfect as I do not like wasting time at a doctors office but still felt he thoroughly addressed my needs. Dr. Dolan has the type of personality that makes it easy for his patients to understand their individual medical issue. His expertise is top notch. I was the Practice Manager for a very large internal medicine/cardiology clinic in California before moving to Reno. We had a large patient population and our patients often experienced delays outside our physicians' control. This practice has a staff that is professional, respectful, courteous and considerate. The doctors at Great Basin participate as professionals for our UNR teams. There are other orthopedic doctors in Reno, but, in my opinion, none as great as the doctors with the GBO team. read more

I had shoulder surgery with Dr. Fyda in June after a failed surgery by another doctor at another facility a year and a half prior. I am an athlete and was worried that I would not get to play softball again since my pain never really went away after the other doctor said he fixed me. Dr. Fyda did an amazing job on my surgery and I am on the road to recovery and getting back to the sport I love to play. It's been less than 3 months and I am already pain free which I was never able to say after the other surgery. I am soo thankful for Dr. Fyda and his professional and precise surgery skills. I took my son there after being told he has patellar tendionitis by his team trainer for his football team. Dr Kieckbusch is the team dr so we were told to make an appointment with him which we did. I called to make an app and talked to Ashley who made our app no problem . I asked her if we needed a ref from our primary care DR and she said 'No " you are fine. I double and triple checked before hanging up with her and was told no ref needed. 2 days before his app around 3:30 Jessica called me and said we needed a ref from his PCP. Ok so this has been booked for 1 week and just now 2 days before his app now they need a ref ? I worked on trying to get it but with a short amount of time basically 1 day I had to try and get him in I called and asked if we could pay cash for his visit in case we couldnt get in to his PCP and was told no By the office manager Kelly Norman . She was SO RUDE to me when she called me and said she was going to CXL his app if we didnt get a ref . OK so I guess our money isnt good there or she assumed we couldnt pay it idk but she was just gonna CXL his app. Kelly then proceded to call me at work the day before at 4:15 did paperwork on the patient portal Said "well you work for a DR's office so you should know how ins works" Ummmm Excuse me ? who are you to tell me what I should know in my job ? she was so rude I cant even begin to tell you She treated us like we were no good and shouldnt even be seen there. still shocked at how I was being talked to by Kelly I scrambled to try and get this ref before 5 and recieved yet another phone call from Kelly saying they were going to CXL our app because they had no ref . I asked when booking this if I needed one and was told no if I was told correctly by the front desk girl Ashley this all could have been taken care of. I finally got our PCP to fax the ref and at 5 Kelly calls me and says oh ok you can be seen tomorrow . Really ? Our ins isnt the greatest but its insurance and you will get paid lady .. we come in and see dr Kieckbusch and he spent 5 min with us and told us everything we already knew and offered no treatment obviously we knew that he had tendionitis thus the reason why we were there.Its been a ongoing problem and has gotten worse and we were seeking a possible treatment so my son wasnt in pain anymore. Very disapointed with the whole office and how my son and I were treated I am a adult so the so called office mamager who has no people skills or any business dealing with the public if you ask me could treat me with a little respect not like a piece of crap.. we wont be back I will take him somewhere that will be happy to have us as patients and actually help us . read more

After I injured my knee playing softball for the second time I decided to seek treatment. I seen Dr. Fyda, he was very nice and listened to all my concerns. Surgery was not my ultimate goal as I was scared to have surgery having never had to have surgery in the past. Dr. Fyda listened to my concern and tried an alternate route of physical therapy for about 3 months. When I followed up with Dr. Fyda I expressed that the physical therapy was helping but I wasn't feeling like I thought so at this time he discussed surgery with me. I was sent to Robin for my surgery scheduling who was very helpful and thorough with all the details of the pre-op, when and where and the follow up appointments. It was a short wait to get in for surgery and the surgery went great. I went back to physical therapy after my surgery to regain range of motion and stability. I'm now 3 months post-op and have no pain or swelling. It's such a relief not to have pain doing every day activities. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. read more
