Came here to get my coffee before heading to Manresa for some pastries. ordered triple cappuccino and hot chocolate with their home made whipped cream. Enjoyed both. Will be back to try their famous CCC. read more

The coffee a little bit like cardboard, but great, if you like a light roast. At least it's not acidic or burnt like Starbucks or Coffee Bean (for you SoCal-ers). Sunday morning: The place was packed with neighborhood couples, people with laptops, and middle-aged men catching up on their man talk. Decent place to study or read, as well. This is a great coffee shop... nice atmosphere, great art on the walls by Judith Maier... great service... and friendly patrons :) We had a business meeting here, and ended up meeting a few others who heard part of our conversation and started talking to us. Good coffee, tasty cookies, WiFi. The staff has always been super cool and helpful, and I read other Yelpers talking about their "snotty attitude" but I can see the staff's side. If I had to deal with some of the "My shit doesn't stink" types I see around Los Gatos, I think I might be snotty too. So it just makes me laugh. read more

Will travel 15 minutes out of my way to pick up an iced coffee from Great Bear instead of Starbucks 2 minutes from my house. You can absolutely taste the quality difference as well as the strength of the coffee. Sometimes the staff can be rude but I suppose the coffee makes up for it.. read more

This place is very 'local' for the crowd in Los Gatos. We stopped in on Sunday morning and didn't feel comfortable enough to stay too long. The coffee was average, no complains. Lots of older locals were milling about reading newspapers and gabbing about mundane crap. It didn't feel like a cozy place to stay at all. No reason to return. read more

Ordered the CCC and it was so yummy! Recommend it for all mocha lovers. Tastes like a mocha but more chocolatey.

It is always wonderful to support local coffee shops and businesses. Great Bear coffee is a very spacious coffee shop and it has a neighborhood coffee shop feel to it. I got the chocolate coffee creme (with an emphasis on the CREME). This mocha milkshake was incredibly creamy and sweet, but in a good way -- all the flavors blended together very well. If you are looking for a treat on your cheat day, I would say to indulge and go for the chocolate coffee creme. It is wonderful!! read more

Great little Coffee place. They have the richest yummiest hot chocolate with fresh real whipped creamed. The quiches here are delicious, so are the big snicker doodle cookies. Once you find parking in the impossible-to-navigate area of LG and sneak in the back door, get ready for a treat. Great Bear is awesome! The bariste are friendly and helpful and make a mean cuppa, the pastries are delish and have plenty of gluten-free / vegan / dairy-free options, for sensitive eaters. There is always some awesome art on the walls, and the selection rotates monthly. In the afternoon this place is always packed with teens, and in the evening it's still a hotspot, but if you go in the morning, you're guaranteed to find a nice table where you can hang out and enjoy a coffeehouse that still values atmosphere and service. read more

I'm a fan of this coffee house. Whenever I go in I can always count on a good cup of coffee. I even moved to Seattle and had my fiance buy coffee beans to bring to me while he was visiting. I often go hear to read, but lately it has been crammed with people every time I go. The only complaint that I have is the last two times I have gone in there has been one employee that has been so rude. Both times he made my drinks and when I asked him a question about the drinks all I got was attitude. The first time I asked if he could remove some foam b/c there was a good inch of foam. I didn't ask for more milk, just asked for the foam to removed so I could drink the latte. He got attitude then went to poor more milk. When I expressed to him that it was a soy latte he replied, "I am putting soy." (in a not so nice tone). The other time I got attitude was b/c I asked if he had made a gingerbread latte since the receipt had said soy latte. I tried to explain that the receipt said soy latte and he just turned away from me. I love coming here and like to support local places, but I think if I continue to get attitude I may have to find somewhere else. read more

I had some time to kill and a book to finish, so I ordered a mocha with their (delicious, fresh, homemade) whipped cream and a pastry and settled down to enjoy myself. The coffee was wonderful, the staff was very friendly, the store was clean, and the people watching is excellent. I literally sat there for four hours and enjoyed every minute. If I lived in the area this would absolutely be a favorite haunt. read more

Aww, the magical Great Bear. As a teenager this was our favorite hangout spot to study, drink a CCC (that's a blended coffee, chocolate, cream. Makes the Frappuchino look like a pile of puke), and admire local artwork. Today I always try to swing by to get some fresh whole coffee beans. I swear by the Dancing Bear blend. I really like this place. I always order the hot cider with a shot of caramel. It's delicious! I always stop in when I'm riding home on my bike, as it's a good place to relax and warm up. They even have some vegan treats to enjoy - win! The seating inside is quaint, crowded, and no power outlets to be had. Update: since my last review I have discovered the CCC. It is AMAZZZZZING!!!! It's ice cream, with chocolate syrup and espresso powder topped with their house made (better than your Grandmas) whipped cream. Super thick and creamy. So I walked in here on a hot day for a quick refreshment like an iced tea, ordered a raspberry one and was going to pay with my Amex card but the girl said that they don't accept those...and I didn't had anything else during that time, so I apologized and sat across at the table to reply to an email or something. But after a minute or two that barista girl appeared with an iced tea apologizing for the situation saying that she felt very bad that I couldn't get what I wanted just because they don't accept certain cards. I've been here Several time and the coffee had been consistent and it taste way better than the other coffee shop around the corner. The staff....Most are pretty friend, the Manager isn't as friendly but whatever. The taste of the coffee is good. The environment...It's a lot cozy and homier feel than the other shop so I like it a lot more. It seems like a lot of people come here to sit on their lap top. The parking is pretty easy to get if you don't mind a little bit of a walk. The only thing is..I've bought pastry from staff recommendation every time...and When I asked if the item is soft, or chewy...they gave me an answer...But when I buy it...only to find out it wasn't. Thats a little disappointing because then I end up throwing it away. I think it would be better if the staff knew a little more about the dessert. Will definitely come back for the coffee. read more
