Visited after work for some burgers with work pals. We've been waiting for this restaurant to open with great anticipation since they are modeled after In & Out Burger. The experience was pleasant and the counter staff was friendly and helpful. I opted for a single burger and a chocolate milk shake but the others had doubles with fries and drinks. I was very impressed with the Yukon Gold fries and fantastic, but small, milkshake(they must know I've watching my calorie intake at this time). They may have been the best fries I've ever had due to the excellent choice of potatoes but I have to say I was underwhelmed with the burger. I even ordered the pickles but they were a little sweet for my taste since I prefer dill pickles. The burger is locally sourced organic meat but I found it to include a lot of gristle. The others didn't have the same experience with their burgers so it may have just been a fluke. I do like that they toast their buns. I'm going to have to say one and done on Great State Burgers since there are so many better burger choices in Seattle like 8 Once Burger or Zippy's. read more

Other reviews compare this to In-n-Out. Tasted nothing like. It is about 1/2 as good and 2x the price. I went in late afternoon mid-week when it was fairly quiet. About $13 for an average at best burger and cold fries. Yum? No, Meh? Yes. There are way better burgers for much less. Very disappointed. read more

Finally a burger that you can feel good about! Not dripping with grease, grass fed, organic toppings, and the fries... wow!! Not greasy, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside! Simple menu and that's all that's needed. I hope they expand to many more locations. Maybe the Olympic penninsula!!? read more

For $9 (veggie), there better be good flavors. They had very mild state sauce which was largely sweet. Like mixture of ranch and mayo. No options for additional toppings like jalapeño to give it a different touch of flavor. Sweet bun, thin patty, sweet sauce in less quantity, not options to add another layer of flavor. Paid $14+ for a veggie burger and fries. Veggie pattie was decent but fried. I included the "upgrade" to include grilled onions, by the time I got back to my desk was sad to see the upgrade didn't make it to my order. Not worth the $ to try again. read more

Solid burger joint. Place is nice, big, and new. Burger is good. You can tell it's grass-fed by the first bite. The burger however can get a little messy. Fries are really good and very crispy! I get the steak sauce aioli for dipping the fries, super delicious. Pretty neat that they have a Jones soda fountain. read more

I've had a burger/fries from the Safeco Field location and the Amazon campus location. Both are delicious. I enjoyed the one at the ballpark better because all other food choices were also a rip off. The other location made me sad because it's across from a strip club and how awesome it'd be to work at Amazon and go get a burger and a lap dance at lunch. But then someone would probably see you and run off to tattle to whomever over a burger. A lot of construction workers eat here. I like the little sleeve they place the burger in. read more

I didn't know what to expect here due to the mediocre reviews, but I was impressed with Great State Burger. It is a neat looking place with a cool layout and a good amount of outdoor seating as well. The service was extremely friendly. I had a double burger and thought it was great. The bun was like Culver's, kind of buttery and with a nice crisp around the edges. I can verify, that at least on the day I was there, the patties were thicker than a Dick's burger, and a double seemed substantial to me. The beef also had a smokey grill flavor and a little char around the edges, which really makes a burger for me. I'm not typically into crinkle cut fries, but these were nice and crispy. Surprisingly, it was the strawberry shake that I thought could be better. My +1 got the veggie burger and said it reminded her a bit of Kidd Valley, which is one of her favorites. The pricing is a bit like Li'l Woody's, but I would take Woody's over Great State everyday of the week...if I ate burgers everyday of the week. Some weeks I'd like to, anyway, I digress. If I was meeting up with someone in the vicinity, or near a streetcar stop and thinking of a burger, I wouldn't hesitate to come here. They also have beer if memory serves me correct so it'd make a decent stop on a S.L.U.T. (thought I wasn't going to say it, didn't you?) bar crawl. read more

I liked the fries - not over salted and crispy. The burger was decent. I had a double and topped it. I was confused as to why the sauce and pickles came on the side. Does the burger come with sauce regardless of whether you ask them to top it or not? Why didn't they just put the pickles on the burger for me? Evidently the pickles are made in house. They weren't old enough to have fermented properly. They were basically cucumbers that had been soaked in vinegar for a week. They even still smelled like cucumbers. My burger and fries came out to $13. Not terrible but Courthouse Cafe across the street has better burgers at a better price. read more

This is a pretty tasty burger. The Fries are really good! And Jones soda from the fountain! The menu is simple! Its a bit pricey, but its management is in cahoots with Quality Athletics where its VERY over-priced, so this is sort of a breath of fresh air. The disappointing thing was the shake, $5 i think it was, was small, really small. But Burger, Fries and Jones soda all for about $10-12, its a cheaper option in the area and is tasty. Everything is cooked to order, so you get your food piping hot! Worth checking out. read more

Love the crinkle fries and the simplicity of the menu: single, double, or vegetarian. And I think it's cool that they carry a variety of Jones' Sodas instead of the usually Coke or Pepsi. Unfortunately the burger I got had almost no sauce on it so it was pretty dry. I think they charge a little too much for what you get, especially since you have to pay extra for toppings like pickles and onions and extra for dipping sauces. read more

I have to preface this by saying that I didn't try the burgers, which seem to be the seminal feature here. I opted for the veggie burger, which, at just shy of $9, was a deep fried disappointment. The patty, which was both thin and bland, was coated and deep fried then layered with thousand island dressing, shredded lettuce and tomatoes. Blah. The crinkle fries were alright but I've had better. Wouldn't go back or recommend but coworkers seem to like the burgers. read more

Burger was okay but I don't really need to go back. Pros: onions were beautifully caramelized, pickles were good, fries pretty good, Jones sodas, my friend said her shake was the best part of her lunch, toasted bun. Cons: We both agreed that the meat was overcooked and tough, bun was much larger in diameter than the burger. Also the place needs baffles, lots and lots of baffles. It's an echo chamber in there. Since it's all about the burger, and the burger was not great, this is a one and done. read more

The food here is good, but not great. But the kicker is the prices. This place is WAY OVER PRICED for how good the food is. You are better off going to Dicks, and eating for half the cost because the burgers are about the same quality wise. read more

This is the single worst meal I have had in a long time. I don't understand the comments that the burgers are good- they are worse than McDonalds quarter pounder with cheeses (there is a McD's around the corner from this place- go there instead!). The space is really cute and the stuff they say about their food makes it seem like it will be tasty and healthful (and they have Jones soda). But I had a single and my daughter had a veggie burger (for which she was charged 8.50 rather than 5.50 for the kids burger because she did not want the beef) and they were both flat out awful. Fries are fabulous, shake is wonderful. Burger not so much. The State sauce has a weird taste and it ruined the whole burger experience for me. It was an uphill climb to even finish most of it. Would I be back? Probably, but ask to forgo the State Sauce to see if that was the culprit of the weird flavor. read more

I would have given 5 stars, but fries and shakes are too pricey for quantity you get. I loved the burger. The organic, grass fed beef is yummy, you can for sure taste the difference. The people that don't like it are probably used to the taste of gross fillers you get at other fast food places. Also, I love American cheese (especially real American cheese like boars head, waay different than a Kraft, etc), don't think they use boars head here but just sayin, try it. Anyway, I prefer American cheese on a burger because it's less greasy and classic. The ratio of meat, cheese, veggies, sauce etc is perfect and tastes great. I also love the crinkle fries. Looked clean going in and cashier was friendly and pleasant. It did take awhile to get my food and it wasn't even close to being busy....only two other tables. I really didn't like that the person making my burger had a side ponytail with long hair hanging down. That's a hard no with me. Eventually got my food. Fries were an A+. Just how I like them; crispy and crinkle-cut. Burger was just ok. Nothing to write home about. I'd give it a C+. I didn't have a shake. All in all, just meh. I'd come back for the fries alone, but would likely not get a burger. That pony tail on the burger cook was s real turnoff. read more

Overpriced for what you get, 2 burgers/2sm shakes & 1 sm fries for about 30$. I am pretty picky about veggie burgers which is what I had. I like that it's crispy here, but it's missing a good sauce. Best in town is still Uneeda Burger IMHO. On the other hand fries here are great, crunchy and delicious, not limp and soggy like many places in Seattle. All in all, it's not the best burger in town, but if you live in the neighborhood like I do, you'll probably stop in once and awhile for a good burger close by. read more

Great open space with good service and good selection of natural cane sugar soads. Buns were toasted perfectly, had some crispness to it while being soft. Veggies were fresh and the sauce was not overpowering. However, the single burger had very small amount of meat. The patty was thinner than Dick's but the price was three times more. The fries were very crispy, nothing to complain about. But I wish there was more meat and I'm not even a big meat eater! I'll probably try the double next time to get a more balanced burger. read more

I had a-hankerin' for meat and bread today, so I decided to go back and give them a second try. I ordered a double burger combo. Other than the price, it tasted good and beefy. Could have used some salt, but the taste of the beef was definitely there, so that is just nit-picky. Unlike the last time I went, there was no oddness to the beef patty texture, other than it was super lean, but that's ok. Overall, I did enjoy the experience more than last time. The quality of the rest of the ingredients has not gone down since the last time, so I feel like I can expect that level of quality each time. I always notice a long line there, so I don't think the price is an issue for other people. It's $13 plus tax for a meal. So, make of that what you will. For me though, 1 star off for price. read more

One of the consistently rudest servers at the place. Besides being fat and rude, she has blue-ish eye glasses and acts like she owns the place. She doesn't even try to act like she cares about customer service. I do not know how she continues to be employed there. If I acted like that at my job I would be fired. read more

We've been to Great State at least once every 2 weeks since it's opened. The first couple times we absolutely loved it, but there has been quite a bit of inconsistency lately. For example, on one occasion the meat had no sear on it. There was another time they were out of pickles, such a bummer because in my opinion they are a burger necessity. On our most recent trip to Great State my chocolate shake tasted much different, and I order one every time we go because it "was" the best chocolate shake I've ever had. Unfortunately last time it barely had any chocolate flavor and tasted more like cheap chocolate syrup. I asked the cashier if anything had changed and they said no and didn't offer to add more chocolate or make me another one. I really do hope they work out some of these kinks and make it more consistent, we absolutely love the concept and when its good, its really good. read more
