The Beyondmenu website gives them the price, but you have to tell The Great Wall what you ordered so they can begin to cook it when you get there to pick it up. They have no idea what you ordered until you get there! So, it is best to order online, check the email to see what you ordered, call them to get things cooking, and then go to pick it up. My in-laws regularly order takeout from this place when we're having a casual dinner at their house, or as something to send home with me as a "thank you!" for petsitting while they're gone for the day... It's always funny, because my boyfriend and his dad always want the same things, and his mom and I always want the same things. Boyfriend and dad are big fans of the BBQ pork fried rice, and the crab butterflies (or whatever they call them). Mom and I are big on the sweet and sour chicken (seriously the best I've had ANYWHERE), and the egg rolls. All four of us greatly enjoy the garlic chicken, and the hot and sour soup. As an added bonus, for a small upcharge, they're willing to make the hot and sour soup with chicken, rather than pork, something for which this picky eater is quite grateful. :) All in all, I really enjoy this place, and will probably continue going back until either I kick the bucket, or the business does (both of which are hopefully some time in the distant future!) read more

This is a great hole in the wall of the Manor area in San Leandro. I stumbled upon this place with a friend a while back. We both got one of their lunch specials. I believe it came with rice, chow mein and an entree dish of chicken (with cashews?). Everything about the meal tasted good, from first bite to last. It wasn't particularly crowded, which was nice. We came at an odd time to eat a late lunch, which is probably why there weren't too many people. If people give this place a shot, I'm sure they won't find anything like it in the Manor area for legit Chinese food and not breaking the bank. Affordable food. Good food. What more can you ask for? I'm looking forward to trying some of their dinner meals one of these days. I can also imagine that this place would be a sweet spot to get good take-out in this city. San Leandro isn't really known for Chinese food like Oakland Chinatown is. But this is a close second. read more

After our last visit here I vowed not to come back but we had some out of town family visiting and they wanted Chinese something quick and near the house. We arrived around noon had a party of 8. They weren't too busy but had all their big tables full of bigger parties. So we ordered after 20 mins of being there no tea no water no nothing. We had to ask the lady there for tea and water which then took another 20 mins for the tea. After the food came we finally got water. Not one time did the bizzie ever come back and ask us if we were fine or needed more water as our empty cups sat there. As we get the bill I notice a "service fee" I went to go and pay I questioned her about this so called service fee she said it's for my tip! Oh no bizzie your giving yourself a tip on my bill when your service sucked?! I asked her if the other parties also got this "service fee" and she said oh yea all parties 8 or more get it! I told her where in the menu or anywhere does it state that?! First off it's called a gratuity fee and again where does it state your so called fee?! No where in the menu or posting was this service fee nor did the other parties have this fee! I asked her to fix my charge but she refused to so again I told her you can not go and charge me a fee because you weren't tipped as you wanted last time but that's on your own fault fix your customer service and then you get your tip! She turned her back walked away with a big attitude cause she knew I was right so I said what I needed to (yes some foul things cause I was pissed) and took back my signed receipt and bill! Filed a claim with my bank cause she wanna play that bs!!! She also told me I have to understand that in the food industries as a server you only get paid so little and are taxed on everything! Ugh bizzie I pay over $50 grand a year in taxes so don't tell me that bullish!!! Like wtf then you don't like it then change fields!!! If your not happy with your job leave it!!! Anyways...we definitely won't ever be going back if service isn't fixed! I will be contacting the health board also cause we did find some food in places where they shouldn't be...veggies were in mop buckets that looked dirty! I've never sent back food at a Chinese restaurant until I came here. So confused by the positive reviews. Their fried rice had cold and raw vegetables on it. They must have added it after frying the rice. Had the salt and pepper tofu which had so much salt it was literally inedible. Chicken had no Flavor besides salt. Even soda was bad: out of a warm can, flat, and tasted old. I rarely ever review places and especially don't give bad reviews. But this was an extraordinarily negative experience. read more

We ate here on Dec. 24th 2018, the food was ok nothing special. We paid our bill with our credit card. The money came out of my account the next day. Thought all was done. Then January 31st 2019 they charged my credit card again without my knowledge or approval. I called my credit card company and reported the charge as fraud. My credit card company said I should call the restaurant and see if their credit card machine malfunctioned. So we called them and they knew exactly who we were and they intentionally charged our card again, saying they never got paid. I told them they did on the 24th of Dec. The lady just wanted to argue with me. So I told her I opened a fraud claim against her and my credit card company would deal with it. I was reading some reviews - one writer guessed this Mom and Pop had been in the Manor for 7 years ,, I discovered this Wall back in the early 80's - wow - way more than the guess. It has survived and its still one of the best hidden treasures and deals hard to find deep in the Manor. Very few find this little 60's strip mall - because who goes into Washington Manor? unless you live their or its time to see your Grandparents or see if Porkies is still open? The food is great and its the best lunch deal in SL - if you can find " The Manor" - The dishes prepared old school asian and tasty. The Broccoli Beef the best .. They were very accommodating to our party of 20. We didn't pre-order a family meal, but the food we ordered out of the kitchen. We started with 2 soups. Stopped in after an airport run, and trusted Yelp to steer us to some good grub. Holy schnikes did it ever! The salt and pepper fish (think spicy peppers not black pepper) was probably the best fried fish dish I have ever had. The honey walnut prawns were also excellent. We asked the waitress for her recommendations, and she suggested a particular fried rice. I wish she hadn't. Instead of proper asian rice that is sticky and can be eaten with chopsticks, this was americanized fluffy rice where no grains stick together and you have to scoop it with a fork. She also suggested a mixed chow mein that was ok, but wasn't special. I'm a bit sad that Yelp steered me to better food options than the waitress did... Don't get the fried rice. Pass on the chow mein. Order the salt and pepper fish at all costs. Stab the person next to you if they try to stop you. read more

I had a craving for chinese food, the place closest to us was closed so we decided to try Great Wall. We ordered the cashew chicken, chicken fried rice and egg rolls to go. Overall the food was good, however they forgot the cashews for our cashew chicken, and there were more chewy pieces of chicken than I'd like. I'm used to having zucchini and baby corn in my cashew chicken also. The overall flavor made up for it though. The egg rolls tasted off, maybe the oil they fry it in was old or something but dipping it in the sauce made it better. I came to this restaurant for the first time a few weeks back and was very satisfied with my food and the customer service. This is my second time here and I must say that I am disappointed. While the food is good, the customer service wasn't so great. I waited for quite some time to be seated and was ignored by staff. This would be understandable if the restaurant was busy, but there was only a handful of customers dining when I arrived. After being seated my waiter began serving and assisting others. I sat at my table for some time waiting to be handed a menu, but later decided that I would be better off grabbing one myself. I also had to wave down my waiter to let her know that I was ready to order which I really did not like. Yelpers may read this and think "OMG, this girl is such a whiner" lol. While that might be true, I expect to be treated properly when at a restaurant, especially if I am spending my hard earned money. So, I'm giving this restaurant 3/5 stars. Today, I had the luxury to finally try this heavenly place... In return, my group had been blessed with some of the best services around ever! Let's get down to it: Seating: Given a party of 7, it took 3 waitress to finally seat us at one table as there were nearly every table in the restaurant vacant when we got there. Apparently, 4 or 5 out of 6 of the big tables were for banquets only or larger parties, leaving 1 or 2 tables to open for a decently sized party. Of course, out of all the tables they give us, it's right infront of a T.V and under a huge square fan that seems ready to fall the moment the building shakes. Now, the T.V in any restaurant should never be infront of a table on even levels with customers. It is so uncomfortable with everyone wat hing the T.V your way. Soon, it also became a nuisance. Restaurant Etiquettes: Besides the T.V being just annoyingly next to us, I understand that it is run by a family and they have kids. However, you can't mix family and customers and put your damn kids' priorities over your customers during service! The little 4 or 5 year old girl was rudely reaching over our group of people for a remote for the T.V that was behind us due to how close our table was to the T.V and the girl even had the audacity to try to move us out of her way without even asking. On top of that, she had the audacity to turn the volume up, mind you that the T.V was RIGHT NEXT TO US, and every time we turned it down, she keeps turning the volume higher! Also, as we were seated, the waitress never gave us menus, chopsticks, or even asked if we needed water or anything. Then only a couple minutes later, a waitress actually comes up and asks us if we were ready to order and we hardly even touched a menu. This got irritating because after that time, another waitress came up to us in 3 minutes. For goodness sake, how about asking us what we need first? You know like normal restaurants...say get us some chopsticks and water first? Or you know, give a menu from the beginning instead of making us look for a menu ourselves like normal waiters/waitress are supposed to? What kind of restaurant expects you to order food within 5 minutes when the first 5 minutes we didn't have a menu present at all? All I can order off the top of my head is air to breathe, time to think about what else I want to order, water to cool myself, ear plugs for that annoying T.V, and chopsticks to have something to eat with. During our actual ordering process, I also noticed how despicable the waitress' priorities are. As we were placing an order, the waitress told us to "hold on" as she went to go seat some people that just walked in through the door. Now, if that doesn't scream "rude" to you, then I dont know what is rude anymore. Food: Absolutely delicious... We ordered fried rice, rock cod and corn soup, sezchuan beef, orange chicken, beef stew, salt and pepper fried pork ribs, and a chicken, beef, and pork combo. Oh my god, heaven forbid that these guys can really cook chinese food and I'm chinese... Fried rice was ridiculously salty on the rice and the fish was completely dry and bland. Rock cod and corn soup fish was way more dried out than any other places I have been to. Sezchuan beef was overly sauced. The plate was drenched in so much sauce that I could hardly see the beef. I think I could swim in that plate of sauce... Flavor was also so so. Meat was somewhat tough as well. Orange chicken same thing. Way too much gravy and the sauce was overwhelming. Beef stew was even worse. The cardilage pieces were under cooked but the beef pieces themselves might have been overcooked. Cardilage were too hard and chewy. The beef pieces were way too tough and dry. Flavoring was a bit more bland than any other beef stews around as well. Salt and pepper fried pork was okay. The meat, once again, was a bit too dry for me. Lastly, the chicken, beef, and pork combo was actually 2/3rds vegetables and 1/3rd meat. It was like 2 or 3 pieces of chicken, beef, and pork each. The rest was mushrooms, celery, carrots, and shallots. Overall, very much worth every penny you can jam into their business. Very clean chinese food. It's a little on the expensive side, but the food was delicious. They have jajang myun, which is my favorite. However, it tasted a little different. Great Wall has been my family's go-to for (lightweight) late night Chinese food cravings. Over the years, we've become pretty loyal to this place and for good reason! First, the food is really good! It comes out relatively quick and the portions are so big, we always have left overs. Be careful not to get too excited and order too much! We love getting the honey walnut prawns, shrimp fried rice, crispy fried chicken, Hong Kong style beef chow mein, and won ton soup. All that is really enough to feed our family of 5 and take some home. And eating here won't put a damper on your wallet either. Good food at an affordable price. This place has been around for so long and so many of our friends and family love it that we almost always run into someone we know. The people are very nice and the service is great! The area is a little sketchy and the restaurant itself might not be the fanciest but if that bothers you, you can still order for pick up. It works either way! read more

Got some take out one night, and it was pretty good. Not great, but it wasn't bad either. We had the honey walnut prawns, Hunan chicken, pot stickers, and steamed rice. Oh, and the woman who took our order also tossed in a bag of fried wontons...because service! I was a little disappointed in the Hunan chicken as I was expecting a dish with some kick, but alas, no kick to be found. Conversely, I thought the honey walnut prawns were good, but my girlfriend (the one who ordered them) was a little disappointed in them. The potstickers were delicious, as were the fried wontons, and the steamed rice was, well, steamed rice. The cookies offered up the standard fortune, however, the cookies themselves were rather stale. The service was excellent and the food was ready inside of 10 minutes. The food is very affordable and looks great. When i got my meal i was like wow. Then i tried the sweet and sour pork it was crunchy, but felt like it was refried a few times. I asked around about a good Chinese food place in San Leandro, and this place came highly recommended. Now, a friend of mine completely destroyed Chinese food for me because he would always take us to a place, literally, every day back in high school. I only have Chinese food about once a year now, and I have to hope that it's great. This is a nice little place, tucked in a corner over by Porter's Market. The wait staff was friendly and attentive - when we could find them. We went on a really hot day and I don't think I ever got my water refilled. We waited at least 5 minutes after we finished our meals until my friend got annoyed and walked into their kitchen to get someone to bring us our check. As far as the food itself, it was pretty good. I ordered a lunch special with kung pow chicken, pork chow mein and friend prawns. My friend and I went halvsies on the honey walnut prawns as well. The kung pow chicken wasn't spicy enough for me. I'm a huge fan of spicy food, and this only got about a 3 out of 10 on a spicy scale that I just came up with right now. Everything else tasted like Chinese food that you'd get anywhere else. Now, I was expecting the honey walnut prawns to blow me away. I was disappointed. Don't get me wrong, they were good... just, not really good. Overall, the food was okay and the prices were good. FOOD: They have a wide variety of Chinese food and all of them are good. We especially like the chicken (yeah, it takes a bit long but it's totally worth it). The fried noodles are good too! The foods are ok. The service was not that great. The couple who came after us got their foods (3 entrees) before us. I had to ask twice about our order. We ordered sizzling rice soup, and it's priced at $5.95 on their menu. When we got our bill, they were charging us more. I talked to the lady and even showed her what is listed on the menu. And she just said that it's an old price and they are waiting for their new menus, and she won't honor me the advertised price. I don't buy it. A group of ten went to eat here tonight. The welcoming was warm and friendly, the service was quick and the food was amazing! We all left with full and satisfied tummies. I think that the price is fair for the amount of food you receive. The food (we got 11 different menu items) was enough for all to share. There was not one item which wasn't eaten! We have eaten at the Great Wall since it first opened. It has gone through being really great to not so good... I feel that it has come back to the really great status. We will continue to enjoy dining at the Great Wall. If you haven't been there in awhile - give it a try again! read more

I used to live in Oakland and one of the hidden gems in Oakland is this hole in a wall place called "On Luck Food to Go". Since moving to San Leandro, although not too far from Oakland, I have found the spot to go to where foods are just as delicious as my favorite place in Oakland. Great Wall Restaurant have comparable foods and prices are relatively decent. My favorite take out place thus far here in San Leandro. There's indoor seating as well (great customer service!) and most importantly, a large parking lot. My favorite here is the stir fried Mongolian beef and salt and pepper spare ribs. Update: I think there's been a change of ownership. Ordered pork spare ribs to go recently and what normally was a heavy box was super light this time. Got home and attempted to eat it with my rice only to discover that my box was filled with LITERALLY all fried batter and pork fat. GROSS. Not sure how the other foods still rate, so I've lowered my star from a 4 to a 2. read more

Not a fan. I checked the place out after seeing the reviews here, but the food is very bland and did not taste good. I tossed out most of what I ordered. Portion sizes are pretty small for dinner menu. I ordered non-seafood dishes and they tasted fishy, which is odd. Some dishes I ordered did not taste right at all in terms of flavor. There is a "special" menu IF you know about it and are the correct ethnicity. Given the demographic around the Manor, the food is noticeably Americanized but still several notches above the junk you'd find at Panda Express, etc. I remember the chow mein being much less greasy than the usual and quite tasty to boot. Pleasantly surprised. Visited Great Wall the other day after years of dining here. My family used to go here a lot growing up but we kind of just stopped. Came here with my in laws and it made me wonder why we stopped coming! Our family opted for one of the pre-fixe new years meals which included soup, several proteins, & dessert at the end. Checked out Great Wall restaurant the other night and was pleasantly surprised. The plaza it is located in is old school and walking into the resto with bright florescent lighting and TV tuned to the news, didn't create a good first impression but then, the food came out! We started with the Fried Meat Wontons which were delish! It came out hot, super crispy, and although it's fried, it wasn't greasy (i.e. wasn't fried with old oil). There were a dozen pieces and we finished them off in about a couple minutes, they were that good! The Mongolian Beef was really good and the portions of meat was quite generous. The Salt and Pepper Chicken wasn't quite what we expected, they were chunks of breaded chicken, that were fried, seasoned, and came with sliced jalapenos. The first few bites were tasty but then it got tired. Might've tasted better if it came with some sauce. Pork Fried Rice was pretty good, and the serving was abundant. Too bad they don't serve BBQ Pork Fried Rice though. Service was friendly. There was just one lady serving the seven occupied tables but she made it work, all with a smile. Another lady eventually came in. Overall, GWR seems like a solid go-to spot! This is a great place to come if you need something quick. Service has always been very prompt when I've come here with my family. The 2 soups I would recommend are the sizzling rice soup (if you want something light), and the chicken and corn soup (very thick but delicious). If you like chicken salad they have a very light, refreshing one. It's lettuce, fried chicken, crushed peanuts, with a light sweet sauce. Other dishes we like to get when coming here are, the honey walnut prawns, broccoli or asparagus beef, and fish and vegetables. A large menu with lots of options, Great Wall Restaurant has been around almost as long as the actual Great Wall, I think--its a San Leandro classic. A hometown hero. But seriously just because it's one of the oldest Chinese restaurants in town, it hasn't cornered the market on "the best Chinese restaurant in San Leandro/Lorenzo/CV." First of all, when being seated, it took 3 servers to seat us because they couldn't decide which table to give us. Also, they dared to ask us if we were leaving within the hour because they had a reservation for some tables. Its not that hard to give us any other table that isn't reserved when the restaurant is empty... Then none of the 3 servers gave us menus. We had to get our own menus from the counter and the lady at the counter ignored us when we got the menu. Shouldn't you apologize when you forget to give us the menu? And right after we got the menu they asked of we were ready to order. Hello??? No menu no order. Also they sat us at the table right under the tv. They had kids trying to watch the tv...we turned it down because it was annoyingly noisy. The kids got the remote and turned up the volume. Then we had to complain so the server turned the sound off on her kids. It ain't a playground kids...its a restaurant. Lastly the food. Everything was so salty. The corn egg fish. The salt pepper pork chop. The Sichuan pork. The tofu. It was like eating salt with every bite. Also the hot plate veggie and meat wasn't really a hot plate. Most restaurants stir fry the food and pour it into the hot plate to sizzle. But this place brought the food to the table and poured it into the hot plate in front of us so only the stuff on the bottom touching the plate was hot. The best thing here was the tea and the egg tofu soup. Then they forgot to give us to-go boxes about 8 minutes after we asked for it.
