Found out about Greek Shack on Yelp and I decided we should try it on our road trip and we were in Redding anyways. It's a small shack with a few tables & chairs in the front, some tables/chairs in the back too. Order at the front window, pay, and guy brought our food out to us. Lamb Gyro combo $12 - gyro, hummus, and salad. It's a HUGE amount of food. If you can share then get the combo, otherwise just get the Lamb Gyro by itself! Lamb meat was really good, some slices of tomatoes, some sauce, lettuce, and pita. Hummus is a good blob amount, salad was a good greek salad w/ feta cheese, some tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, olives. dolmas $5 - serve cold, grape leaves and stuffed with rice. Tasted ok. Chicken gyro $8 - meat tasted off to me, I didn't like it. Skip it and get the Lamb Gyro!! Turkish coffee - B. liked it, dark and strong, not bitter. You can charge it. read more

I honestly didn't expect much when I pulled up to the shack with my family on our last road trip. The only reason we found it at all was because of other Yelp reviews. I have to say, though, the food was surprisingly good and the staff were extremely friendly. I would probably go there again when passing through town. read more

Great food! Fast and friendly service. Took my kids here for the first time last week. We frequented Anthony's when they had a restaurant and I haven't had luck finding their food truck since they closed their doors. Happy to find the Greek Shack. Lamb gyro is just as great as Anthony's. Hummus is to die for. Also, I'm usually not a fan of baklava, but this is the best I've ever had. Typically baklava has a nutty flavor I don't particularly care for, but the baklava from the Greek Shack was pure phyllo and honey goodness. Will definitely be back. I'll still keep my eyes out for Anthony's because they are great too, but nice to know where the Shack is so we can rely on some great Mediterranean food. read more

Only giving this place one star because I have to. Walked up to their truck to order and waited 5minutes for no one to come.. only to find one of the cooks/workers smoking behind me further back. He only came up when I started walking away. This was also after me saying hello very loudly to get someone's attention in the truck. Apparently the other worker was just sitting in the truck. Their prices are way too overpriced for that level of customer service. Don't waste your time going here. read more

I love this place. Family-run with great customer service. They used to be Anthony's on Eureka Way. They know my order by heart and will often bring me my food to my car when it's hot! Came here for a late lunch and loved it! I shared a Combo for $13. It was super worth it--came with a gyro, hummus, and Greek salad. All were delicious! LAMB GYRO was moist and flavorful, not like the typical dry gyro meat I'm used to. The pita bread it was sandwiched in was also sooo soft!! HUMMUS was well flavored. Definitely tasted house made! SALAD came with a delicious dressing, loaded with spices! All ingredients tasted fresh and refreshing. Service was also great. Didn't catch her name, but the young lady that helped me was very responsive to my requests and brought my food and napkins to my table, which I I didn't expect. I am here in Redding for business and was looking for dinner after a long day's drive. I read a few of the reviews here on yelp and was craving some good greek food. The first thing that stood out about this place was the size, it literally is a small shack. I ordered the combo dinner which was a gyro+hummus+tabbouleh. Compared to the greek restaurants back home, the gyro was HUGE! It also had a generous amount of the tzatziki sauce, and large fresh tomatoes. So overall the gyro was a hit for me. Both the tabbouleh and hummus were good as well. Overall, for going about 30 minutes before closing, I was served with a nice smile and great attitude so that alone got this place 4 stars. The added bonus of good food for a reasonable price made this review a perfect 5! read more

I always appreciate a restaurant that cares about its customers. The owner states that they are using new recipes since the time of my review, including a newer, thicker, and tastier Gyro sauce. They hired a much more experienced chef, and they assured their confidence in offering a great Gyro. In the last month or so, they've added shades, umbrellas, bamboo privacy fencing around their parking Lot-Spot, and even a little porch in back. Wow. This is one of my favorite places in Redding. It's literally a little shack - totally unassuming and super easy to overlook. There are a few tables to sit outside and enjoy your food but I usually just order my food to go. My go-to order is the lamb gyro. For about $10, you get a HUGE gyro that is full of lamb and full of flavor. The workers are super nice and friendly, too. Probably best to just order take-aways. Kitchen was clean. Service: Quick and Excellent. Lady over the counter was very honest. Unknowingly we came on 'Wednesday Gyro Day' and Falafel sandwich came out to be just 6$ a piece. We would have accepted Falafel at regular price just as happily, but she gave discount nevertheless. Food: Unfortunately our vegetable falafel sandwich wasn't up to the mark. It was very dry with very little hummus. No other cream/sauce and not much vegetable stuffing either. I bought 2 Greek Salads from here to go yesterday. At dinner I reached into the bag to take them out I noticed there's a small problem .....no dressings. What good are my salads without Greek dressings. I ended up having Greek Salad with Thousand Island dressings. This morning I called them up to let them know and to see if they'll make it right. The lady thought it was funny and told me there's nothing she can do about it. Well just letting you know I will not be ordering anymore salad from your business again. Great gyro, great tabbouli (primarily parsley, like it's supposed to be), and good hummus. The service is a little slow (but friendly), and the seating is minimal... but when it's a pretty day, even with the traffic driving by it's still pretty great to sit out and enjoy your lunch. Greek food in Redding? I was soooo happy to find out about this place. I heard about it from one of my Yelp friends, bookmarked it and then tried it out one day when my hubby and I were running errands on that side of town. Thank you Yelp for helping me find the Greek Shack! It was a gorgeous, mild sunny day (about 2 weeks ago) when we went there for lunch. Almost all the tables were taken. For a small little shack in a parking lot this place has a lot of charm and a lot of seating. The owner is the friendliest Greek guy you ever met (okay all the Greek guys I have met are pretty friendly) and timed our food great so we had time to work on the salad and hummus and pita bread before our giros arrived. The hummus rocks! The giros are HUGE! Very delicious, a lot of food. I took about 1/2 of my meal home for later. Next time I'll try their felafel. read more

Have you ever driven past a place and said i have to stop and try that place... Well being as i dont live far from here i wanted to try it. My husband and i were running around town and i said hey lets stop at the Greek Place... I havent had a Gyro in a long time... So we stopped in. Every time i would pass this place it was never busy. Well the day we stop and try it they are busy.... Im sure the same guy that owns this place is the one cooking... He made sure to say sorry for the wait over and over again. He was the only one in the "shack" He was offering free apples to his waiting customers. I have to say that while we were waiting i saw a older couple walk up wait less then 5 mins and then leave.. That bugged me.. I could see how hard he was working to get his orders done and he was still thinking of his waiting customers. When my husband and i ordered i got the chicken and he got the lamb. They both were fantastic. ( i liked his lamb better) After we got our order he again stated he was sorry for the wait.. and said " guys apple on the house, Make sure you take an apple" You could tell he was just a man working for his family and trying to put his customers first... Stopped here today for lunch due to the positive yelp reviews and was expecting a positive experience. I ordered the lamb gyro and, on a whim, asked if they could sell me a side order of falafel. The girl at the window nodded saying, "You just wanted three or four, right?" I said yes, she said sure, and I handed her my card. Here's where it got tricky. The girl then asks her coworker in an undertone what to charge me for the side order, and he said, full price. Now I'm expecting to get a full order of falafel if I'm paying for two full meals. (It'll taste ok as leftovers, plus I have roommates who are happy to pitch in when I'm in a bind). The girl swipes my card, about ten minutes later I get my food, and I head for home. I live five minutes away, but when I got home, the food was pretty darned cold. No biggie, it still tastes good. But when I open the box with the falafel, there are only three half dollar coin sized pieces in the box. Three pieces for six bucks? Yeah, it was a shame. Other than that, it was good food. Let me start by saying the food is amazing. Today was my second time going to this little shack. It's a pretty run down building.. not that even matters to me. I am pretty picky don't like veggies and HATE onions. I clearly asked for a gyro with meat, ALL MEAT, MEAT ONLY. And specified no onions. I get a gyro with EVERYTHING.. tomatoes, onions, and the sauce I wanted on the side. Didn't say anything when she brought it out. But, I decided it was too much to pick off. I took it back up to the window and she proceeded to tell me that I just ordered a gyro, no special order. I was clear how I ordered it and she wanted to tell me I didn't order that way and she didn't want to make me another one how I wanted it. I go back to my table and start picking out the nasty veggies I don't like and sopping up all the sauce with a napkin. When I finally have almost all the meat out of the pita the girl asks if I want a bowl. What would I want a bowl for? It's all on a napkin because you to too long to offer me a bowl. I told her, "No, I just won't ever be coming back." As she walked away I said a new pita bread would be nice. She pretended to not hear that. So... great food, but HORRIBLE service. Don't order a special order if you see a young brunette with braces. She doesn't care about her job. Was lazy and rude, clearly doesn't want to be tipped EVER. I might go back, but if I see her working.. I'll go across the street to the Lighthouse. Way more bang for your buck. Won't leave me still hungry like I was today. I LOVE a good gyro and Greek salad and when we come to Reading to visit my mother-in-law I always go get one from Greek Shack. I love this place! Great food at a reasonable price, and the staff is usually pleasant and helpful. I come here all the time for their tasty, tasty gyros. Two people can get salads, hummus and pita, and a gyro of their choice for around $25. With drinks! Sometimes they get a little busy here, so we try to avoid crowds. The time you wait to get your food tends to drag a bit when that happens, but they make up for that with excellent food. There's usually 1-2 employees on shift here, but man do they sling some food! Also, the road noise can be a bit annoying, but hey, if you go to a shack on the side of the road to get food, it's to be expected! Normally really good, but I went on Wednesday for the special on Gyros and they sliced the lamb scharwma really thin and didn't put very much meat on the Gyro compared to the other times when they loaded it up with thick sliced lamb.
