We stopped on our way out west and on the way to the Palo Duro Canyon State Park just south of there. Waitress was nice, great service, country fried steaks were awesome. I had the country fried steak with jalapenos and it was great. My wife had the original country fried steak and liked it. My three kids all liked their food. Reasonable prices. Restaurant inside is about what I expected for a restaurant in the Texas Panhandle, rustic with good decorations Locals all eating there which tells me it is a great place to eat. We both had the famous chicken fried steak and the fixin's. While eating we reminisced about our childhood and how good home cooked meals bring back such awesome memories. Jaimie our waitress was absolutely incredible. She was prompt and attentive to our specific needs. The rustic charm wasn't wasted on us as it also helped transport our memories to a bygone era. It was my son's birthday an he wanted a chicken fry and we had heard this place was good so we took a chance, (because we hadn't eaten here before) both my husband and son had the chicken fry and LOVED IT cleaned there plate.. I got the chicken tenders and OH MY GOODNESS they where so good maybe the best I've had. My son also had the peach cobbler with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, he ate every bit. Been here at least 10 times. Progressively declining in food quality on the last 3 visits. Ordered Jalapeño Jack Chicken Fried Steak with french fries and house salad. As a table we shared an app of onion rings and green chili cheese french fries. Chicken fried steak was dry, way too little gravy and stale tasting fries. Salad had an enormous piece of red onion that was way to big to eat without attempting to cut the onion in the bowl - lazy kitchen prep. Table of 8 and no one was excited about their food. A shame. If you want good chicken fried, there at least a dozen places in town to recommend before this sinking ship. read more

Alright where to begin. Oh right, this was an interesting experience. Chipped and dirty plates. It took three times of asking for a non chipped one to actually get one. We ordered sirloins cooked medium. We got sirloins cooked damn near raw. And the plates had a monsoon of juice on them soaking the potatoes and the black chips in plates. Which chipped plates are a health code violation and can harbor mold. As reperation we got back bigger potatoes but when the steaks came back, they were on a chipped plate and a dirty plate. In a monsoon of juice. I dont think we will be back for a while. When the waitress was asked for the plates she had replyed that they passed health inspection. Also the waitress next to us was talking about her weird shoes and fallen arches. And to show off the shoe put her foot on the chair. Like no miss we dont want to overhear that. What can I say? Best CFS in town? Green Chile Willy's has my vote. We came on a busy Friday night and we were able to be seated while sharing the table with another couple. No big as we are social and don't mind the interaction but the other patrons may not. Now to the food. As ordering the trio was the best idea to do since they have many types of CFS the jalapeno and green chile takes the gold. Perfectly fried and with delicious toppings who can say no to this? I actually do prefer chicken fried chicken and will be ordering that next time. If you've never been before you owe yourself to at least try out this gem. Reasonably priced and generous portions this restaurant was well staffed and seemed to have a team that worked together not independently. You gotta start with the "Green Chile Cheese Fries" - a mound of hand-cut french fries topped with roasted green chiles and melted shredded cheese. For the entree, you gotta order the chicken-fried steak - it's what this place is famous for. I usually alternate between the "green chile" variety and the "Jalapeno" variety. Both are excellent and served with a side of your choice. I've also tried the green chile burger, which is pretty tasty, but I wasn't impressed by the amount of ground beef. Make sure you save room for dessert! Their specialty is their banana pudding. But always check to make sure they have some - more often than not, it's already sold out. =( It's creamy, it's homemade, and it's damn good. Service is very down home and accommodating. This is a great spot for lunch or dinner. Chicken fried steak is excellent and it is actually better than the regular steaks they do. They do have a steak lunch special that is good. I took one star because they use iceberg lettuce that is trash so if you order the salad or a side salad it is trash also the upgrade to loaded baked potato comes in a micro container so save your money on that. They do not load the potato. The cheese and bacon are mixed together in a small and I mean very little side container for sauce. Not one for cheese and one for bacon NOPE all mixed together for a serving size for a infant sized person. So other than that they are great. read more
