We were excited to try GK for the first time but left feeling disappointed. The restaurant was somewhat busy on a Saturday afternoon. We were seated quickly but the service was subpar. Waiter was curt and didn't even look at us while we ordered --strange.. Ordered the steak and eggs and chipotle chicken wrap. The steak was very bland and in need of salt. The amount of chicken was good but also lacking in flavor. Would say both the french fries and bfast potatoes were the highlight of the meal. Green Kitchen 1325 Second Avenue is located at 70th Street. The original diner style Green Kitchen that I loved closed and even before that they made their locations fancier with higher prices. This location is very spacious with indoor and outdoor seating galore. We were greeted at the reception podium by a very nice friendly yet professional young woman. Although I miss the old diner setting of the historic location I can say the menu still stands as I remember it. I had the Buttermilk Pancakes with lots of butter. My daughter had a omelette for breakfast. I'm hoping that this location does well. I do like the space better than the location closer to my apartment. Today was a special Memorial Day treat but I doubt I'll be visiting frequently. It's a nice place to suggest for my visitors when they come to town!! I'm recommending. read more

Ordered a hamburger tonight and I hardly ever have a hamburger! It was absolutely delicious and humongous also! The person who took my order was so sweet and he got it perfect to every single detail. I would definitely continue to re-order and re-order here it's just that this was the first time I think I had a hamburger! It's a great vitamin B 12 food and that's what I needed for energy and I've my energy back! Atmosphere (5/5): The interior opens into the outdoor dining area. There a full bar ornately displayed at the back of the restaurant. There were umbrellas to block the sun during the day when seated outside. The noise level is really low which was nice. The outdoor dining was dog friendly! Service (2/5): The service was abysmal. Despite the bustling amount of staff, it took a while to get servers to get your order and then to get the boxes to go. Really only the hostess came to check on us (and that's not even her job!) There were no coffee or water refills throughout our meal. Coffee (0/5): The hot coffee and the iced decaf were both horrible. The iced decaf was extremely watered down and had no flavor. Corned beef hash and eggs (3/5): it was pretty decent with a good amount of seasoning but not much portion of corned beef. The side of salad had a good helping of variety (tomatoes, arugula, olives, red onion, cucumber, green pepper) and a light vinaigrette. Rueben (3/5): served as an open-faced sandwich. The pastrami had a good flavor but the flavors didn't blend well together. I wasn't a huge fan of the sauerkraut, which had a more pronounced sour taste to me (but the bf liked it). The cold slaw was terribly bland. French fries were requested be cooked well done and helped for that extra crisp. Our whole breakfast came close to $60 (including tip)! Lovely place. Great ambiance. Our particular server/host/waitress wasn't very attentive at all. But there are so many others that it's easy to ask a willing waitress to assist. I don't like that the cleaning guys clean and handle food supplies at the same time with same cleaning gloves. For instance a cleaning guy with blue cleaning gloves I watched him clean with bought me some to-go trays with his cleaning gloves on. I found that to be disgusting. I also don't like that the cleaning guys are on autopilot so much that they clean so fast with their rags causing crumbs from the table next to me where I was dining to fly into my plate and bounce on and off of me. The food is good though and the vibe is great. Just more consideration, food safety practices and attentiveness is needed is all. read more

For the mains, we had the crispy chicken Caesar salad (for that crunchy, savory goodness), the juicy GK Burger stacked with all the right flavors, and the perfectly cooked GK Salmon that melted in every bite. I used to be a loyal regular at Green Kitchen and genuinely enjoyed bringing friends and family here, but after the way they handled their own mistake, I am done. What should have been a simple fix turned into months of excuses, silence, and complete disrespect. We celebrated Father's Day brunch here and everything was fine until the bill came. It was way too high for what we ordered. I knew something was off, and since I live nearby I went back immediately. The waitress flagged me down right away and admitted she had given us the wrong check. She told me she would cancel the charge on my dad's card, we could pay the correct bill instead, and the refund would show up within a few days. Spoiler alert, it never did. My dad has contacted the manager multiple times because we were charged twice, once for the wrong check and once for the actual bill, and they have done absolutely nothing to resolve it. They admitted it was their error and still refused to make it right. For over six months we have been dragged along over about $120 while they stall, dodge, and give the runaround like it is somehow not their problem. If you cannot manage a basic refund for a mistake you admitted to, you should not be running a business. And if for some reason they truly could not refund it, the absolute bare minimum would be a gift card for the amount. Instead, we got excuses and indifference. The manager showed zero urgency, zero accountability, and zero respect for a paying customer. This place is all smiles until they mess up, then you are on your own. BEWARE! I've been meaning to write this since Father's Day - I walked by here today and remembered how they ripped me off. We went there for Fathers Day and had a good meal. After paying for the meal and walking home my son realized we overpaid. He went back to dispute the charge and was told they gave us the wrong check so he paid the correct amount and was told to have me call back so the incorrect would be credited back to my card. I dined here for the first time this weekend while visiting family in NYC. The average food is not worthy of a yelp review, but the dead fly in my salad is. Unfortunately, I had eaten about half of the salad before I noticed it. Their very unconcerned attitude when I pointed it out was alarming and disturbing. They did offer more salad, (hopefully without bug), hich I didn't want. They also offered dessert, but I was done eating food at this place. In the end, they gave us a twenty percent discount which I felt was very lame and cheap, coupled with the lack of concern of a dead bug in someone's food. Where to begin? We arrived at Green Kitchen at 7:25 PM on 3/15/2025. The restaurant was empty, which we initially thought would mean faster service. However, that was not the case. We sat for about 10 minutes before receiving water, and it took another 10 minutes before our server even approached us--a total of 20 minutes just to place our drink and food orders. When the server finally arrived (our receipt listed his name as Enrique, though he never introduced himself), he simply asked, "What do you want?"--no greeting, no pleasantries. As he took our order, he didn't write anything down. Moments later, he asked us to repeat it--yet still chose not to take notes. We never received our drinks at all. The table behind us, which arrived after us, got theirs, but ours never came. Additionally, we ordered fries with one of our meals, and those were never served either. When we asked for the check, we noticed we had been charged for the missing drinks. We requested that they remove the charge, which they did. However, when Enrique brought the revised bill, he practically threw it at us, with my card still attached--an unnecessarily rude gesture that added to an already disappointing experience. To add insult to injury he did not even acknowledge nor apologize for the missing food or drinks. The food itself was fine, but given the terrible service, I would avoid this place at all costs. I wish I would have got his name but he is short a lil on the bigger side . Living just around the corner from Green Kitchen I was excited to finally try this new and very popular brunch and dinner UES hot spot. Disclaimer: Based on the name one would expect the restaurant to be health focused (maybe even vegetarian), but in reality Green Kitchen feels more like a hybrid diner / cocktail bar / family friendly joint with Manhattan level prices. Confusing, I know. BUT overall it's great for what it is. We came here for brunch and sat at the bar since tables were full. First and foremost the barstools are SO comfortable, 10/10. And the bar atmosphere is nice and upscale (table service feels more diner-esc). They also open up the entire front facade which is great for an indoor/outdoor feel. Service itself was excellent, we were quickly and efficiently served throughout the meal. Our drinks were tasty but average, basically what you'd expect from diner brunch cocktails. Though the cocktail menu was extensive so I imagine their other more creative drinks are more upscale. The food was pretty good! Met expectations for diner fare, nothing more nothing less. We both went for brunch entrees but the menu is very diverse. Almost... suspiciously so . But I can't judge on the quality of entrees such as lamb chops, pork chop, bison burger, and filet of sole since we havnt tried them yet.
